This refined building has beautiful designs and is covered with fancy decorations and engravings in many places. You can open it to 90 degrees, 180 degrees or close it completely. It also comes with a manual elevator. You can also customise the department store to your liking using accessories such as the entrance tower with a revolving door, balcony, floor, or aisle to make your own layout! In addition the gift set also includes the Chocolate Rabbit older sister and four lovely department stores you can play with right away.

Bought this then found the identical item at a local shop for 30 less. My grand daughter wanted it for Christmas otherwise I wouldn’t have bought it. These toys are grossly overpriced for what they are.

Great price. My four year old loves it. Matches her other sylvanians. Remember to tick the box to have it come in a box – arrived on doorstop in bubble wrap only and I had to be very sneaky to avoid my daughter seeing it before her birthday!

Got in the sale so was good for the 50 price tag however I am unsure if I would truly pay the normal asking price as there isn’t a lot of plastic for that price!
I bought this for my two little granddaughters for Christmas as they love Sylvanian Families. I was delighted with it especially as I had also bought the tram & other smaller shops to go with it so that they could make a “town centre” & use the tram to give their little figures a ride to town & then return home after shopping.
Unfortunately, any surprise the girls may have had with this present was spoiled when it was delivered… Whoever had dispatched this did so in just the original box without any attempt made to disguise the contents. My address was just stuck to the box on a label so when I took delivery from our postman did so to a delighted chorus of “Sylvanian Families – YAY!!!!” As our girls are only 2 & 4 I found it difficult to explain this was to have been a present for Christmas to them so ended up buying more SF for them to open at Christmas. :/
All in all – the shopping mall has all the typical loveliness of all the Sylvanian Family things & is nice & sturdy with lots of opportunity for a variety of creative play. Right now though, my son & daughter-in-law need an even bigger house to put it all in… … …

As with all Sylvanian items it wasn’t cheap but is very appealing and good fun to play with. My daughter is very happy. There are lights that can be purchased seperately.

As far as Sylvanian Family sets go this isn’t a bad one. As usual the photos on the packaging make it look more impressive than it actually is but including lots of things that aren’t actually in the box, such as multiple figures, a tram and trees. However, what is in the box is actually pretty good, with several items of furniture, multiple little knick-knacks and a Stella Chocolate Rabbit figure. Compared to other SV sets we’ve acquired, which amounted to nothing more than the building itself, this can be considered a pretty decent haul.
In terms of play potential its also not bad. The ‘Store’ can be configured in different ways, depending on where a child puts the revolving door section or the floor plates, which makes it relatively flexible compared to some other sets.
Build quality is up to the usual SV high standard. As always the size of some of the knick-knacks makes it unsuitable for small children and are likely to infuriate parents who have to tidy them up. However, that’s pretty much the same for all SV sets.
My daughter, 5, certainly enjoys playing with the set and it complements the Sylvanian Families Boutique Set that we already have.
Sylvanian families have long been a firm favourite with my wife. Childhood evocative memories of when she was a kid have helped her develope a new found love when playing with my daughter who’s now equally as crazy for them. This department store set though is absolutely epic. A large set with such intricate detail you’d be forgiven in forgetting it’s a toy. Beautifully coloured, sturdy and well made this set is perfect for make believe play.
She really likes the revolving door having recently experienced a real one in a real department store in London, and she’s taken great pleasure in using the lift (although it didn’t move and open too easily … a tiny amount of WD40 sorted that).
She also really enjoys rearranging the layout of the three main building components together or as separate stand alone shops.
Anything not to like? Well there’s only one character (Stella) so more will be needed unless one already has other characters, and my daughter was initially confused because she thought the tram was included as it’s on the front of the box. As a seasoned owner, my daughter is also extra careful not to lose the little bits and bobs such as the handbags which make all the difference to the playability of the set. Oh! and bear in mind this is quite a big set so do consider where it’s going to live before committing to a purchase … if you do you won’t regret it!
Our two girls absolutely love the Sylvanian animals, shops, buildings and all the accessories. They are over the moon with this enormous Department Store, it has so much that they want to play with.
They love the old fashioned feel and design and it has some amazing features such as the domed balcony, working lift and revolving doors. As with all the Sylvanian buildings, there is a certain amount of fitting together and constructing of the department store and depending on the age of your children, you may wish to do this for them or leave them to fit all the pieces together. Ours loved putting the balcony, lift and all the smaller accessories together. This also comes with one chocolate rabbit figure. If yours are like mine they will already have a further few dozen to fill the shop with.
This is very well made, as are all the Sylvanian buildings, and the attention to detail is second to none. It does seem a lot of money for what at the end of the day is a pile of plastic, but the kids absolutely love it and it has pride of place in the bedroom. It encourages role play and stimulates their imagination.
As other reviewers have mentioned this set is huge and absolutely stunning when you have finished adding the finishing touches to it. I love that the new Town range is interchangeable and can be linked with other shop sets from within the range such as the Delicious Restaurant Playset but this Grand Department Store can also be swapped and changed around to be played with in different ways too such as the main door section can be either popped between the two coloured sides to make it into a corner store or can be popped on either end.
The set does come with a figure which is Stella the Chocolate Rabbit Older Sister and so there is a figure to play with straight away. I do think for such a huge and quite costly set that perhaps another figure should have been included but there are a number of town series figures that can be purchased separately to go along with the set such as Lulu the Silk Cat Older Sister or Laura the Toy Poodle older Sister and I assume if you are getting such a big set that your child is already a Sylvanian Families fan and will have other figures already like my Daughter has.
The Grand Department Store has two floors, two colour sides, the middle main door section and even a working lift. You do need to add the balconies and finishing touches etc and so if you are buying this for a surprise gift and want your child to be able to play with it straight away then you may be best building it the night before to save any constant little helpers or impatience! Also if this is a surprise gift then you might want to think where to hide it as the box it arrives in is huge.
A beautifully designed very large set and my Daughter is absolutely enamoured with the new Town series and the multitude of play options with the new figures and dresses etc. Another gorgeous set from a brand than was very much loved by me when I was little and is now adored by my Daughter too.
This set is from the Town series which has more than a hint of appealing to adult collectors with a more ‘grown up’ and sophisticated look, through nods to a blend of Pre-1914 European architecture, and pastel ice cream exteriors this looks the shopping district of a classy European city. The building itself comes in two sections, a double fronted joined piece that can be opened out or closed in half for storage and a corner piece with a fully revolving golden door and open balcony. The Yellow fronted half of the main piece also boasts a working elevator! You pop your figure in, pull the door (that matches the revolving front door) around and use the ledge to lift or lower your shopper between floors – though be aware the lift WILL NOT work unless you pull the door around, it has a safety lock if the door isn’t shut, so please be aware not to break the piece!
The exterior is fully customisable, there is a plethora of awnings, window pieces and signs included to dress your store as wished, and the pieces are designed to be able to take another story in the connectable fashion of other buildings in the Sylvanian families collection. You could add the Designer studio or the gelato shop on top, or attach the delicious restaurant to the side.
This department store has a hint of early noughties Harrods and comes complete with four departments, the chocolate lounge with chaise longue and exquisite macarons and treats, the beauty department with cosmetics counter and perfumes, the accessories department with handbags galore and the designer clothing department with two included outfits for the hangers and mannequin. All of the sets are available separately so to see them included here is amazing and the pieces really are exquisite, you may though want to keep some aside if giving to a very young child.
There is so much play value in this set it is amazing, yes it is a big investment but when you see the level of detail, and the potential play value it is certainly outstanding and will give joy for years to come, whether as a toy, or collection piece, and will certainly hold its value for resale or as an heirloom to pass on to potential future grandchildren.
My daughters think this is the best thing ever. You need to give at least an hour for set up, my photos here are incomplete because they woke up and couldn’t wait for me to finish before getting stuck in!
I think some of the other reviewers may have missed the nuances of Sylvanian Families,yes they are expensive but so are most toys nowadays and few are as well made as Sylvanians. Yes you only get one Town Stella Chocolate Rabbit included but I think this is perfectly pitched as it’s unlikely that this will be the first piece in a child’s collection, and an adult collector will be over the moon to add this to their collection complete (or if buying the non gift version to customise to their hearts desire) and will be unlikely to need lots of other figures because rather most likely will have many to choose from. My only wish? That the Stella had had an exclusive outfit for this set as she is available separately in this outfit but that’s no reason to knock this amazing set down as it’s certainly worth every penny.
My gripes about the packaging, which is clearly labelled but always leads to disappointed children when they see what they *could* have had compared to what actually comes in the box, plus the mean-spirited limit of only including the one character, are important to me, but they’re my ONLY criticisms of the set. Because otherwise it is phenomenal. The spinning doors, the little shop fronts, the tiny details, the ability to expand, the room to add more shops, the sculpt itself… everything about this set is opulent and magnificent. And it goes without saying that this would make an amazing main Christmas present. I don’t think my two criticisms are dealbreakers, it’s just disappointing that even at such a high price tag, you’re still being driven to buy more toys at the same time.
This is a huge and imposing set which forms part of the ‘town’ series. The main shop comes in three parts and you can move two to either be at 180 or 90 degrees. This allows you to make a bit more space if needs be or create a genuine high street look.
The set comes with a huge number of additional items which those familiar to the brand will know from finding loads of them, evidently lost in either the vacuum cleaner or down the side of the chair.
Nevertheless these extras help create the image and there are some nice touches such as the mirror, shop display units and hangers. However you only get one figure which seems terribly inadequate in the circumstances – if the figure is selling the products who are they selling too?
So ok, sylvanian expect you to have other figures but if you didn’t this would seem a great set if only it had a couple more in the box.
Overall the reaction of my children to this set says it all. Instantly enthralled and engaged. The play they have already had as customer and shop keeper has made me laugh but there are many more hours of that to come. Overall this set has many positives not least it’s imposing size which will excite the recipient. However for its price there should be a couple more figures in my opinion.

There is a massive box of fun and it really has the wow factor!… this is a department store called grand department store and I think is called the gift set which may affect what you actually get.

The domed entrance section, featuring a balcony and revolving entrance door can be moved. This is a really nifty piece of design, as it means that the front section can be presented for display when the set is not in use, but the door can be moved round so that characters can be easily moved to/from the interior of the store to let play flow instead of needing to move round to move your characters or awkward hand to hand transfers over the rooftop. I’ve not seen a piece of design like this before on a ‘dolls’ house’ type set, and it’s really nifty. The base connects to other shops and houses from the range to create a complete town. The design is so good, I can see this becoming one of the truly sought-after classics, a bit like the Playmobil Victorian mansion was when I was growing up.
My only very minor gripe about this set is the fact it only comes with one character (Stella, the chocolate rabbit). To be able to use this properly, you really need at least one customer as well as a shopkeeper! I note that another reviewer feels that this misses nuance and you’re only likely to buy this set if you already have Sylvanians. I couldn’t agree less: this is also the kind of set that people buy as an all inclusive small world play ‘big present’ e.g. that grandparents splurge on for birthdays/Christmas because it has a really classic appeal and is packaged to look like such a complete playset.
