First time of using router, cut kitchen work tops and breakfast bar, did a practice run first on old tops, ok.
However had to throw blade away after, worn out but all in all well pleased.
Bought to make a Belfast kit cutout on hardwood worktop.
Positives.
+ Weighty, powerful and stable while cutting..
+ Handy storage box
Negative
– Its powerful!
– So you need to know what you are doing. Short of doing a YouTube video and two page instruction booklet that is all I can say. That’s not really a fault of this product. It applies to any router. I was/am a complete beginner and I admit it was scary at times. 🙂 Needs to be used with a good well clamped template.
Footnote – I managed a fairly decent cut out in the end. – Hurrah for me.
Where are you going to find a ” plunge router of this power and decent quality in this price range? Good but with some design compromises, some which they could have avoided easily enough. Some pros and cons below after a couple weeks of use.
BTW: when tightening the collet, it reaches a tightening point that is not yet secure. Turn past that and go to the true tightening point. Similarly when loosening the collet, it gets loose and then reaches a tight point which might tempt one to think the collet is stopping because it’s wide open but the bit won’t release. Use the spanner to loosen past the tight spot until it gets to the true loose point.
Annoying:
-Depth stop pulls up 1mm when one tightens the setting.
-Includes 2 bushings (nice) but no tool to centre them.
-Columns stick towards the end of the plunge, but was able to lube them and so far so good.
-No motor brake so it takes a bit to wind down.
-Changing router bits usually is done with a router on its back or upside down resting on its top. Not with this router. The top isn’t flat enough to sit upside down (*@!%), and using the topside dust extraction port makes laying it on its back rather awkward.
and the port is flimsy enough that its back can easily pop open with a little inadvertent pressure while the router is laid back.
-As others have said, the depth stop rotating turret doesn’t have click indents so that it stops at the right places.
Good:
-Dust extraction included, top & bottom options! The bottom side dust extraction attaches to the fence so only works on outside straight cuts, but is well positioned for that. The topside extraction port feels flimsy and gets in the way but works well for dados and mortises. Not so well for circle cutting.
-Power
-Seems accurate
-Handles are comfortable.
-Fence is better quality and more adjustable than many at the price point.
-Integrated circle cutter.
-Two bushings included.
-If 50mm plunge is enough for your projects, great. If not, increase your budget.
Purchased this to replace my old one. Used it once so far for kitchen worktops and performed well. Comes with guides which saves buying them or fitting a uni base.
This router is perfect for the tradesman or serious DIYer. Usual Trend quality. Storage box was damaged inside, but that’s not the end of the world. Get one…you won’t be disappointed.
It’s pretty good, router maybe is a little under powered. As with Trend stuff they like to sell a TONNE of accessories aswell, so for some operations they also expect different adapters and suchlike which ought to be included.
Bought this for a kitchen refit, found it easy to use, mid range price and will easily pay for itself in no time
This machine is powerful for all worktop cuts.
I used this machine for eight worktop joints – perfect cut with the fast motor speed.
I used the trend jig also for worktops which was easy to use. I also used this machine for my corner joints.
Using the right router bit I had a great finish- no chipped!!!!
Slow and steady for the best finish!
Been using a router for year this router is up there with the bes
I used this to cut mason mitres into my worktops and have never used one before . It did a cracking job of the cuts and anchor recesses.
No matter how many u tube vids you watch you’ll be lucky if you find one that tells you quality cutting attachments are required or show you how much sawdust is created .
Not sure when I ll use it again but I definitely know it’s a very handy tool and would recommend having in your inventory
I bought this a while and it has been excellent. Loads of power to it and handles really easily for it’s size and weight. I’ve given it 4 stars though it’s really 4 and a half. A couple of niggles which probably explain the constant reduction in price. Other than cutters, it doesn’t seem to be compatible with a lot of the trend router range. It’s possibly obsolete to them. It came with two useful size guide bushes but strangely not the the two countersunk screws needed to attach them. Stranger still is that the accessories inside the massive plastic case are held in with swish black, brand matching wingnuts…but no screws?! Puzzling. The guide bushes themselves are the larger 3″ or so ones so uk bushes don’t fit and you can’t get the bigger ones anywhere it appears. I bought a trend mortice and tenon jig which also came with bushes but no screws and of course the bushes don’t fit. I had to pay 16 squid for a trend unibase to adapt a trend router to trend accessories! It’s niggling but not major thus a half star loss. As a half inch router it’s a monster and the end guide thing, I forget it’s name, is the reason for the oversize case. It is impressive and as trend prices go, there’s probably 50 quid in that alone. If you want a well priced(especially for a quality make) wood eating 1/2″ router then this is the one. Just be aware tho that it’s very likely not compatible with other trend router accessories. It doesn’t fit trend router tables for example. It is less than half the price of other trend routers that do tho. As a nice touch it has a 1/4″ sleeve that fits into the 1/2″ collet so it’s nice and easy to swap between cutter gauges. It gets a bit of the half star back just for that now I mention it.
Good solid router easy to set up and use, very pleased.
It is very easy to use and is accurate for a inexpensive route
Bought the Trend 1/2″ router and template guide for the sole purpose of installing my new kitchen. I didn’t want to use those ugly joining strips or get a fitter in to do my worktops so I bought this item to have a shot myself.
Wow! the mitre joints are superb and much better than I could ever have expected. Now I could sell these items and get a large slice of my investment back but I’m going to hang on to them for reason as yet unknown.
This is a good router, a bit heavy but mostly good quality. The 1/4 inch reducing sleeve is a poor design and when attempting to use a 1/4 inch shank bit it was very hard to remove the bit and sleeve. Will only use 1/2 inch shank bits from now on.
Very good value. Had to return the first one as box had been opened and some bits missing… replacement was very prompt.
Great service from Amazo
The router seems mostly okay, obviously I wouldn’t expect a top end tool for this price but some of the design and manufacturing is unacceptable in my opinion. Mine had a bent side fence adjuster making it rub for half of every turn and very difficult to adjust also because the knob’s knurling was almost non-existent making it difficult to grip and turn the adjuster. Also, the depth stop bar is made of aluminium so gets damaged (indented) when you tighten the locking knob. Also the turret click stop positions don’t line up well with the end of the bar. I will probably make a new bar out of steel with an offset end to match up with the turret stop flats. I would have returned it but I needed to get a job done so I will keep it and try to bring it up to scratch myself. A partial refund would be great as some compensation but that won’t happen.
I bought this to do some template joinery and to make some mortises for loose tenons. I have a bigger router (T11ek) which lives in my router table, so bought this as I knew the brand was good. Whilst my first experience using it at the weekend was positive I do have some reservations. It’s powerful, well balanced, and the soft start makes it feel very easy to handle for a big router, however there are some down sides to its configuration. Mine came with a 30mm and a 16mm guide bush as standard, but these are not to the normal trend guide bush config. Checking the range of available guide bushes that Trend offer, they fit every other router in the range EXCEPT this one. I can only think that this is a one-off OEM model which has been re-branded by Trend.
I’ve ended up buying a Trend Unibase to allow me to use it with a range of guide-bushes, which isn’t ideal and means that what I thought was a cracking bargain is less so. The unibase makes it really awkward to attach the dust extraction port (you have to either do it before you attach the base or remove the base to do it afterwards.
You also need to ask yourself questions about the plunge depth if you are using it for template routing. It’s only 50mm, so you need to either have long cutters or get yourself an extender. The unibase is a little thicker than the base it came with, which adds to the issue. Trend told me this router was aimed at the kitchen fitter market, so I can only assume that kitchen fitters use big enough cutters that this isn’t a limitation for them.
All in all I like the router but, depending on your intended use, you need to read the small print in the blurb properly and get in contact with Trend support (who were very helpful) before you place your order, to make sure it meets your needs.
It worked quickly & well except the weight of it made it diificult to control when it hit a knot, I probably need more practice with it as I have never used one before. There were no cutters supplied with it, so I has to buy them separately. Although I bought a big set of cutters to go with it, only 2 of them were suitable for cutting a slot with a rounded base.
Have not used as yet but im sure it will be fine many thanks
It’s a trend product so you expect quality and you get it, a great workhorse. Zips through work tops, hinge cuts on doors, lock and letter boxes a breeze.
These are dangerous tools when not used correctly so do your research before buying.
It’s so well made and packs quite a bit of power even at the lowest settings.
Extremely loud so do not use it without ear protection of some sort. The dust exhaust is a little bit awkward, one of the screws got jammed in the screw inlet which was a pain to get back out but it does a good job once installed correctly (can be installed to collect dust from under or over).
powerful, smooth and accurate, used to cut high gloss white work tops , did a great job perfect , highly recommended
Bought for one job, reducing decking height, so that folding doors dont rub. Worked a treat, did the work easily, and would highly recommend.
This is simply the best router period do not buy anything else big case with tools perfect !
I cannot say how good it is because I have not used it but a friend of mine who saw it thought it was a good buy and he uses one all the time
A great product, well made and easy to use. Only downside was that my kit came without the screws and bolts needed to attach the guide bushes to the base, the purpose I bought the router for!
This meant another trip out to the local hardware store to find something suitable.
Otherwise a great piece of workshop kit.
Nice powerful bit of kit, doesn’t struggle with larger bits would definitely recommend
This router is powerful comfortable to use and has accurate depth adjustment, good for site work and in a professional workshop as well as a garage workshop
Didn’t realise this came in a plastic box so that’s a plus, didn’t like that the plastic zip tie was broke it look to have been opened befor, the 30mm gard that came with it was amazing but wish I know about it becouse I bought one with it and now I have to send the spear gard back, all in all it looks to be a good pice of kit, very happy
All arrived and all parts included. Took a while to find manual and smaller component parts as slipped behind plastic compartment ( see second photo).
Great product. First time router user and first cut was perfect! Would highly recommend as very versatile and carry case is really handy.
Powerful and sturdy. It has the weight that its size suggests but that helps keep it steady. I like the soft start. I think I might fit this one to my router table.
Essential piece of kit for kitchen fitting, having bought a trend router I was disappointed to find that there were no fixing bolts or screws for attaching guide bushes or the dust collector accessories
Take a little bit of getting used to but oh it’s good. Beautiful finish on my work pieces now. Buy a Trend router they are the nuts.
This model is heavy which I perfect for me but some may find tricky
I was slightly reluctant to purchase when reading a couple of the negative reviews posted here. However in my experience this is and excellent router and very good value compared to some other more well known brands. I’ve subsequently gone on to buy another two Trend products and been very happy with the design and value for money. I now have several other Trend products on my wish list.
great soft start, powerful, enjoying the fine adjustments on vertical and horizontal for detail work
Great product at a competitive price, with spectacular service. Received very promptly and it wasn’t a Prime orde
This Router is not light first of all but the feel is just amazing.I bought this router because I needed to up grade and this fit the value for what I needed to spend and friends have bought this Brand and were well impressed so it was due to this I was happy to buy.
Great Router , does the job well , I like Trend make always feel it’s good stuff
Easy to use great value for money and handles the work with ease. New to woodworking but can tell so much better than previous cheap route
Very good product!! I bought this to fit the worktop in my new kitchen!
This machine has the power and having the trigger start on the handle is a great help.
I am a hobbyist wood worker, this router is a great piece of kit which is ideal for my purposes
particularly like the fine vertical feed, great for when using radius cutters
Great tool, loads of power, used with the right bits cuts like a dream, used it for cutting worktop today with a tungsten carbide worktop bit and it did several cuts with ease
A year ago I bough a cheap router from Lidl just to get familiar with the whole idea. I wanted more, and based on reviews went for Trend rather than Makita. This machine is powerful and smooth, a joy to use. It is strong and well made – on day two I tripped over the power cord and it fell onto the concrete floor. No problem at all. We’re now making our own sections in oak, tables and benches as well as precision work fitting hinges and latches to 19 internal doors in our new house. Highly recommended.
I like this router very much, and the price is okay for what you get. But when using the router if you don’t have good lighting you may struggle to see what you are cutting as the are no lights on this router.
I am delighted.
I had never used a router before but it mitred my kitchen worktops beautifully and was so easy to use .
Delivery was exceptional delivered abroad in less than 48 hours . Thank you for excellent service . Highly recommend this product.
Received very fast, well packed, all parts inside … plunged in … work nicely just waiting for a bit free time to used it …
Hope everything will be just fine !
My first attempt at a masons mitre, I bought a UK made jig sometime ago, just needed a decent 1/2 inch router. I read many reviews of mid range routers and as a occasionally user, didn’t want the expense of the preferred models of tradesmen. This trend router, although not the most expensive for this brand worked a treat, I did ensure I bought a 1/2 Inch trend straight cut router bit, because again after reading reviews of cheaper alternatives, it pays to spend on a decent product. In all an excellent tool for the diy market. Just ensure you read all the instructions, and if like me you wish to attempt a masons mitre watch some you tube videos, follow the instruction that come with your jig and you cant really go wrong.
Not used a lot at the moment but what use I have given this router has been very good, the smooth start is very good with no kick at all. The controls are all close at hand and comfortable to use. I am aware of other reviewers stating some screws vibrate loose, I’ll keep an check on these and add some stud lock if need be.
The router is a lot quieter than I expected, powerful and smooth in use. The box contains the attachments neatly located in mouldings. The only additional items I may add will be an 8mm Collet and possibly a router table at some point, though will need to do a little homework as to which reasonably priced table for occasional use would best suit this router.
Good little machine, shame it’s just a rebranded Erbauer, comes in same case with same accessories just a Trend sticker.
Always bought trend products will do again great machine
Found there was a screw missing of the fine adjustment emailed them on the Tuesday received it on the Thursday .
Great customer service and well deserved 5 stars.
For this price and being a trend 1 half inch plunge router I thought hold on whats the catch but after using it for a few weeks now mainly with the trend dovetail jig my opinion of this machine is very high so thanks trend for offering consumers a decent router at a great price…just don’t buy from toolstation as its over 50 more!
Before buying this router, I had been using a cheap diy machine, which did the job quite well but did tend to wander at times. Since buying the Trend router I have been making perfect cuts and slices, with unnerring accuracy. It is very big and quite heavy so please read the description before buying, but, to me, it is the perfect tool in my small woodworking family – and at a great price, much better than all the big go-to names on the market.
I’ve not actually used this machine for its eventual purpose yet, but have tested it and it looks v.good so far; the power is much better than the ‘budget’ machine I have previously used and the fine adjustments are a real bonus.
Rebating plenty of power, quality expected of Trend didn’t fail to delive
I haven’t used the router as yet but it looks sturdy enough to do all my DIY NEEDS
First Trend tool I ever bought as I am a Milwaukee fan. Will not be the last one!
Good bit of kit. Fitted it to the trend router table. Had to drill 4 holes but worth it.
Excellent router could pay a lot more, this one more than good enougg for general use
It takes 1/2 shank which I like but it is big to handle
Great bit of kit easy to use. We’ll worth the price.
Fantastic piece of kit, made fitting my kitch a piece of cake, would highly recommend
