Great idea especially for the elderly who struggle to dial numbers – you program a number on the phone to be dialled using a long press on the red button on the rear. We used it for elderly parents to use in emergencies – great idea!
great value phone, im 70 and its very easy to use as , i have no problem using my smart phone but this is a cheap phone i put 5.00 on which will last me months as i keep it in my car and just use it for calling people if i dont have my other phone on me. I actually like it better than my bigger smart phone
This phone is a replacement for another big button mobile, and is actually much better. For the price it has everything you need for phone and text. Easy to set up, easy to use. Really happy with it.
A, similar sized mobile phone to the old Nokias of the 1990s, its lightweight too. It can text and make calls and has larger than average user buttons which is great for the less dexterous.
The ringer is louder than average on full volume and has a very good speaker volume for hands free calls.
Included is a you need except for a USB charge plug so if the recipient doesn’t have many USB devices you may need to supply a plug for them.
Programming numbers into the phone is simple but if the recipient has never owned a mobile before you may need to help them. There’s also an sos ability for an emergency number so all the phone owner needs to do in a non 999 emergency is press the sos button which then dials the number programmed.
It’s a fab phone for those who rarely use or need a mobile and don’t text often. Great for those who lose phones a lot as its cheap. Simple to use and program. Also as its unlocked you can use any network sim card.
This is a really great little pohone.
My Father is not one for technology but will ring and talk all day long lol, so this is straight forward and ideal for him.
Its simple to operate with clear big numbers.
Once you have numbers logged you can press the sos button and it will notify all numbers so its really greta piece of mind either way and such a great price at the time i write this review.
Excellent and i would recommend.
Charging is via the usb cable provided which is easy to find a usb plug for if needed and at this price who can complain.
This is a great value mobile phone. I go hiking, boating and mountain climbing quite often and always carry a back-up phone. My previous Samsung (back-up) phone had died after 14 years of service and I must say the TT190 has replaced it efficiently.
For my purpose, I need a phone which can send/receive calls and messages and has a long battery life. My main iPhone lasts not more than 24 hours and when using google maps, calls, messages, watsapp, music etc., it turns out to be untrustworthy in dire situations. The TT190 provides that additional assurance on these trips.
Some of the positive points:
+The number pad is large, and clear to access and click
+The screen is plentiful and sharp without jarring edges
+There is a handy torch and a one-touch SOS button at the back
+Battery last about a week when not in use which is perfect
+Memory can be expanded by using an SD Card
+Very light weight
+There is also a ‘radio’ function
+Works on 2G which is accessible pretty much everywhere
Some challenging points:
-The back cover is flimsy and tough to remove. I was worried I might break it when trying to open to insert the battery
-Strangely, there are no braille dots on the keypad
You have to use the full sized sim-card, which can be bought pretty much everywhere. But if you want to swap sim from your iPhone/Android phone, then you can get a micro/mini sim adapter easily on Amazon.
Overall, very pleased with the TT190. True value for money, easy to use and great functionally.
Very simple phone, perfect for elderies who don’t want new smart phones, very good as extra emergency phone, as the battery last for weeks!! Easy to see, big buttons, and menu.
I wanted this TTfone TT190 big button mobile phone for my elderly grandmother.
I was afer basic and simple to use mobile phone.
It arrived nicely boxed with USB power cable but without the charger.
It charges reasonably fast and keeps the charge well, especially in the standby mode.
Phone looks and feels well made and of a decent quality.
It is of a medium size, comfortable to grip and hold.
Very easy and straightforward to navigate throughout and to press buttons.
Display is big enough, clear and easy to read.
SOS button is located at the back, easy to use, very visible, can’t be mistaken with other buttons.
Mobile phone number to call in emergency can be assigned to it.
This phone also has a flashlight, but I’m not sure if my grandma will remember how to use it.
The most important for me is to teach her how to choose the number and call someone, how to use SOS button and how to charge it.
SIM card wasn’t the easiest to insert, and won’t be straightforward for an elderly person, however once it is completed phone is easy to use.
It takes big SIM card only, so for small one adapter has to be used.
Sadly it only works with 2G, would have much better coverage if it would be compatible with 3G and 4G.
Sound is loud.
Icons are fairly big and well visible.
Simple but works with 2G only – I hope that it won’t be closed until 2033 as per DCMS announcement.
My mother-in-law is not comfortable with these touch-screen phones. She always wanted one with big buttons and a large screen. Setting up the mobile was simple and it came with its built-in battery and a charging cable. The sound is clear and the display is large enough for her to see clearly. The buttons are soft and are comfortable. Additionally, the menu is easy to comprehend and navigate. But taking the back off was very difficult and required much effort.
What’s not to like about a big button mobile phone that is so simple to use? Well this mobile is exactly that very handy on nights out where a smartphone is not required but a phone to call a cab or receiving emergency calls is still required.
Very easy to setup, the back clips off really easily and add SIM card, (you may need a sim adapter as it’s the full blown first version that is required), plus the battery and hey presto your ready to go.
It’s only 2g so no data but you can still send a text, ( old school using keypad), and make and receive calls.
This phone is ideal for technophobes that want to make and receive calls whilst on the go but are not interested in Facebook, playing games or taking photos.
It comes with a torch and it’s not too bad, good enough to find your key hole for your front door.
It’s a shame that this doesn’t have 3/4g capability with wireless hotspot as this would then be an ideal phone to take abroad, Whack in a data only sim and use data via hotspot. But alas no it has no such features.
Overall taking in the price, fact the battery lasted for days with minimal use it’s a great backup mobile phone.
Highly recommend.
It’s interesting to find the phrase “Handy Phone” in the description as Hand is the German word for a mobile phone. However, in this case, handy is entirely appropriate. I’m surprised at the adverts for mobile phones that advertise all sorts of features but don’t actually claim to be able to make phone calls. Well, this phone does exactly that at not much more.
It is ideal for maybe elderly people, who are not interested in the bells and whistles of modern technology but just want to make phone calls. Why pay hundreds of pounds for what are glorified computers when you only want to call family and friends.
if that is what you want, this is ideal. As a plain phone, battery life is great and you don’t need to recharge it every day.
So first off something I hadn’t realised so thought I’ll mention it straight away, is that it only takes standard sized SIM cards. So if like me you are downgrading a mobile phone you will have to purchase a SIM converter. To be fair these only cost a couple of pound but it’s better to know up front.
The phone itself comes with a battery and a usb charging cable. To set it up you have to take the back off, insert the SIM then the battery. Taking the back off is a total pain and something I couldn’t have let my mother (in her 70s with early onset dementia) do herself. There is a tiny lip on the bottom left corner of the phone and that is where you are to lever the back off. It’s stiff to come off and you feel like you’re going to break it but with some patience it eventually pops off.
The look and feel of the phone is better than I expected for 20 (Feb ’22). It’s a good size measuring about 4 and a half inches x 2 inches so will easily fit in a pocket or even a large purse. The print on the buttons is large, clear and easy to see even in low lighting. My most favourite feature is the sos button as my mother can sometimes just forget how to use something so it’s good to know she can press one button and get in touch with me and not become confused and not be able to contact me.
Overall I think this phone is a great buy, it would make a good first phone for a younger child and is perfect for older people who don’t want to be bamboozled by technology. If I could improve it, it would be to make opening the back up a lot easier with maybe a slide on back or button release. I am happy however to recommend it on its strengths as mentioned and excellent value for money.
Simple, back-to-basics, exclusively 2G compatible, unlocked across all networks with a large, red adaptable, SOS button.
Fits into the palm of my hands, though this isn’t a miniature phone. Its about the size of a Nokia 3310, but unlike the Nokia burner it works only on 2G.
The large keys make is suitable for those with poorer eyesight, making it usable even when the glasses and lenses are off/out. Sadly though the keypad, is not backlit which makes it difficult to use in poorer light – even if the screen itself is bright and large.
This is a truly retro phone, but with the added benefit of inserted your own SD card as well as a SIM of your choosing as it comes unlocked across all 2G networks. The sim has to be age-old full-sized – micro and mini SIMs won’t do.
You can also buy this phone with prepaid SIM card credits, with either a 10 or 20 options available when I looked at what options are available for me.
I like that it has bluetooth connectivity for a retro phone. I am able to take call whist driving through my car’s bluetooth speaker.
there is a large red ‘SOS’ button on the rear, which is VERY easy to press. But, I am able to program it to call any number of my choosing. So, if I was buying this for an elderly relative, I can ensure they aren’t calling the emergency services unnecessarily, as I could set someone loved and trusted to be only a single press away to receive any calls.
On the subject of an elderly relative, I like that the phone is suprisingly loud for those that are hard of hearing.
The instructions are very good. Very well written by a speaker of English as a first language. But the writing is on the small side if you plan to gift this to someone with trouble with their eyes. You might find you have to set it up for them.
It seems fully set up to be geared towards someone that needs that bot of extra time to navigate a mobile phone. It’s no-frills and designed to be simple and straightforward without the baggage that comes along with modern day super smart phones.
There is a handy flashlight which again, is very bright, with a dedicated toggle on the side of the phone. This toggle is on the small side and it does requite a bit of palpating and fumbling to find it – especially in the dark.
A micro USB to USB-A lead is included in the box. An adaptor is not. I wouldn’t have used the adaptor even if it was included as I have a small army of USB-A adaptors dotted about in various points in my home.
It has a detachable 600 mAh battery included which can be removed when you need to. Fully charged, it will give 5 days of standby time before it needs a recharge.
Would I buy it for someone who would need a no-frills, easy to use, extra-loud and bright-screen phone?
Yes. There are a few little things it’s lacking though in my opinion:
Backlit keypad and 3G (and above) compatibility.
Let be honest.
It isn’t a smartphone.
But well done to this company for making phones for elderly with reasonable price.
UI is extremely user friendly.
Big icons.
Extremely easy to use.
Loud speaker.
Big font and big buttons.
SOS button on the back easily accessible.
Battery will last days or weeks
This big button phone is just right for my 87 year old mother in law, who can use a mobile phone, but now has difficulty with her current flip phone, who’s screen and buttons are now too small for her to see and use, she’s always misdialling, although with this phone, not any longer.
The easy to follow menu is just about right for her, she finds it comfortable to navigate to the contacts list and then just select who she wants to phone, rather than dialling numbers. The other advantage is the phone speaks when she presses the buttons, to tell her what she has pressed, so she’s confident she has press the correct button.
It has an Emergency Assistance Button / SOS Alarm, that I have programmed my mobile number into it, so she only needs to press the red button on the back and it will dial out, much the same as her careline button does.
It has an extra loud speaker, which really useful for the hard of hearing.
The only feature I wasn’t happy with, is the fact that it doesn’t come with a charging plug, just a charging cable. Now if this is intended as an OAP phone, not everyone is going to have a smart plug to charge it, my mother in law certainly doesn’t, nor does she have a laptop, which is their suggestion on how to charge it, so I’m going to have to source one for her.
It has a handy torch, like most phones have these days, so useful if you have a power cut, or you just want to look for something in your bedside table at night.
The phone is unlocked, sim free and will work with all 2G networks including all major mobile companies, although you should note that this phone will not work on 3G only networks.
The SIM and battery are a bit difficult to fit, because you first have to pry off the back cover, now even I found this difficult at 60 years old, so I don’t know how they’d expect a 87 year old to do it, it would have been much better if they had put a sliding back cover on it. The only good point is, you should only need to do it once, so once everything has been put in close it up and forget about it, till the next time you need to change your sim.
A good all round basic phone, with some really good features, just supply a plug and it would have been 5 stars.
One thing I’d say about this is that this is really convenient for elderly people or for people that don’t like use smartphone and wants something have on the go and this would do exactly that. It makes clear calls, the loudspeaker also sounds well, the software is very easy to understand and the buttons are very responsible and as well as long lasting for quite some time for a bit more then a day with consistent use and I generally got this for my grandma and she loves it a lot. Overall, very simple phone to use on the go.
This is a cheap 2g phone that’s aimed at elderly or disabled people who need big buttons and simpler systems without confusing menus.
This is cheap, in perspective to other big button phones, although the quality is quite low externally. The screen, for example, is a very thin plastic that flexes on touch. It also has a somewhat matt effect to it, which seems to easily scratch. Initially I thought there may be a plastic sheet on it, but it seems not.
The keypad is faultless and perfect for the enderly or those with limited mobility. The menu itself is also quite easy to navigate, although the resolution isn’t that great compared with other basic phones. Take the home screen, for example. The image is t overly clear and the text looks a little blurry.
The phone works well. It has a good signal compared with my other 2g phone. I’m not impressed with the speaker phone as it’s not loud at all.
The emergency button is also handy, whether an elderly person uses it or you take the phone out when exercising and use it to call someone if you fall.
Overall, this is OK, however it does feel cheap. The selling point is the big buttons and this is what takes the value up a little as it’s more specialist.
It’s a shame that it doesn’t have 3g or 4g though, since all Sims use it these days.
I personally think and believe that this phone deserves in credit and trophy due to its simplicity easy functionality and creativeness and providing the best possible simple phone to use. the buttons and keys are very big easy to click of course and also easy to see the screen itself provides the definitive information needed in order for there to be the easiest understanding from the viewer. I personally believe that this is a fantastic phone especially for the add Lily and someone who needs a phone to last a long period of time without and about just in case their smart phones dies because smart phones don’t actually last a long time with battery. the SOS button of course works fantastic I do need to grab myself a proper SIM for this just so I’m just having messages and calls rather than data as data is not necessarily needed. overall I think it’s one of the greatest basic phones I’ve ever had in my life. I definitely recommend it especially for the price.
Great idea especially for the elderly who struggle to dial numbers – you program a number on the phone to be dialled using a long press on the red button on the rear. We used it for elderly parents to use in emergencies – great idea!
