V-Moda headphones have always been #1 for me, they’re loud, bassy, and crisp. Now with me upgrading to the crossfade 2 codex’s I was blown away by the improvements that were made from gen 1 to gen 2. At a good price point these are some of the best headphones you can get. Plus unless I use them all day, the battery can last me a few days. Worth a buy.

I absolutely love the headset. Had the model prior and have had these for years now. But I do have to say that the bluetooth seems to cut out at times and just wont work others. It got to the point to where I just use them exclusively with an aux. not much of a problem for me but others will hate it, especially at the price point. I have also had the audio go out in one ear once or twice before. Not sure what that was about since it came back the next day.

Short answer – the headphones are awesome and I would buy them again!

    “Noise cancelation” – 5 stars

    “Sound quality” – 5 stars

    “Battery Life” – 5 Stars

I gave the product a 4 star review because the ear cushions are small. I just ordered the XL ear cushions. But that’s an extra 30 bucks on top of regular cost.

Definitely an excellent made product. They feel durable and comfortable at the same time. I use these in the studio while playing the electric guitar and piano keyboard. They sound awesome. For listening to music, they sound ok. The volume is exceptional. They fold nicely and have a cool carrying case. I highly recommend these.

Amazing pair of headphones. I’ve owned 2 pairs of Beats and one pair of Bose and it’s better than both of those by quite a bit. They’re a little uncomfortable after wearing them for a long time but it doesn’t bug me that bad. I listen to metal music and they have a great balanced sound for that. They’re not super boosted in any area which I love

The Short Version: Buy it, you absolutely will not regret this purchase. Good bass, great sound, and honestly: they’re one of the few headphones id say qualify as “Stylish”. The battery lasts me all day without needing to recharge, thanks to the 3.5mm cable, and Wireless Sound Quality is fantastic. For folks with a larger heads, such as myself, I’d STRONGLY suggest picking up the $20 XL Cushions. They may not seem like much but they make a WORLD of a difference. Also, customized side plates can be bought from VMota directly, if thats your thing, and swapped out with a few screw turns.

    The Long Version:
I’ve had these headphones for several months now, trying them out for an extended amount of time before hosting this review. I am hard on my headphones, so I did a great deal of research before I pulled the trigger on any product. Ultimately, I settled on the VMota Crossfade IIs as a Daily Driver.

A bit of backround: I am a Basshead, I typically rock Sony MDR-XB1000’s which qualify as Bass Canons for those who arent aware of them. I run these things through a DAC and Amp and set off the spidey sense of every Audiologist in a 30 mile radius in the process while listening to EDM, Rock, and whatever else I fancy that day whilst working on the computer.

That said, I needed something portable. Phones these days are ditching the headphone jack and it doesnt look like its gonna stop, plus I need something for when I’m travelling with my laptop and cable clutter is a big negative in those circumstances, which was a problem I had going to florida with the family last year before the pandemic started.

The criteria I had in mind was:
    – Durable, they will be accidentally dropped
    – Can be folded up/compacted and Light
    – Good bass with great sound, WITHOUT any extra gear (straight from the phone or laptop)
    – Comfort

As far as the criteria are rated:

    Durability: 10/10

Built like a tank, nothing more needs to be said. Ive dropped these things left right and center, the cat has knocked them off my desk, and I will shamefully admit to having walked into a closed door with them on whilst looking at my phone, they survived and stayed on my head to boot.

    Compactness: 7/10

They fold up small and all that, not as small as some pairs, in fact my biggest gripe is they’re actually kinda wide as the cups dont fold flat. Making them a little annoying to shove in my computer bag. However, they come with a hard case they fit snugly into and I just hooked it off the side od my bag. No problems at all.

    Sound: 10/10

Words really cant convey sound, and admittedly you will need to have a listen for yourself. However, they have great audio. Mids and Highs are fantastic, bass is solid with a good thump. Furthermore, the added on Wired function isnt a stupid gimmick to appease people, you dont need a charged battery to use it and theres no silly “Bass Boost” features you lose out on by having it in wired mode. Its a viable use in both modes, so if you wanna use them as wired uou can.

    Comfort: Depends, see below

For me, with the base cushions, these actually started to hurt my head a little after an hour or two. However, I have a BIG head. Most hats dont even fit me properly. So with the standard padding long term wear was uncomfortable, full on 3/10. With the XL Cushions though its a game changer. Long term wear without even discomfort, feels nice and my ears dont get smooshed against the inside of the headphones. For $20 its a massively worthwhile upgrade that brings it to a solid 8/10, though admittedly thats being compared to my desktop pair, which have the cushions the size of aircraft tires.

    Other notes:

The packaging on these by the way is phenomenal, ive opened many “premium” products in my time but this is one of the first ones where I was geuinely blown away by mere packaging. I never really thought about how something so simple would leave a lasting impression but it just helps reassure you that what you bought was high quality when even the box it comes in was given a similar attention to quality and detail.

On further notes, you can actually buy some good looking side plates for these things on their website, Planning on picking up a pair myself when I finally make up my mind on what color I want.

    Final conclusions:

These headphones are in a word: Awesome. I was genuinely concerned the price they commanded was over the top when I purchased them. Now, after having them for several months I can absolutely say that it was worth it in spades. Even if you’re not reaching for a model as top shelf as these in terms of price: I can say with confidence that V-Mota has sold me on their brand, and Id feel comfortable reccomending them to anyone looking for Headphones in the 100-400 price bracket. In the future I will ABSOLUTELY be adding more of their gear to my collection.

Very bright sound at high bit rate. Plating from my Samsung Galaxy using poweramp to play 320kbps mp3s i dont know how much better of a set of cans anybody could ask for. I was indeed surprised by the dynamic range, being able to hear baselines and pics that normally just blend and do not stand out of the rest of the mix. Built quality is superb. Perfect design.

I only use V-Moda headphones for my listening needs. With that said I must address a flaw in the design! The casing where the fit adjustment bars go in out NEEDS to be some form of metal. Every pair I’ve bought and traded in has cracked open just from regular daily use. Please, if the manufacturer listens to critique, use a metal alloy for the fit adjustment casing.

This is my second pair of V-modas. Last pair was the regular Crossfade 2s and I absolutely loved them. They did start to get a little bit raggedy over the almost 5 years I used them(understandable with what they’ve gone thru), but still work well and sound good, so I gave them to my daughter and got a new set. These are just as good as the previous set, just with a couple new features. No complaints whatsoever, & I got them a lot quicker thru Amazon than I would have straight thru V-moda’s site. JUST MAKE SURE that if you get them thru Amazon, you get them through this authorized seller. You can find them on Amazon for cheaper, but V-Moda won’t honor the warranty if it wasn’t a purchase thru an authorized dealer.

I am writing this review based on the 2 days of functionality I had with this set.

I am by no means an audiophile, nor do I understand many terminology used but some of the reviews I have been reading… I will slap it down in layman’s terms.

THE BASS IS AWESOME! And by awesome, I don’t mean puberty I am in trouble with what kind of personality I am supposed to be awesome, but I mean CLEAN and overall GREAT bass quality. I consider myself more or less a bass head as I used to DJ mainly EDM / Electro House musics. I love my bass and I just can’t get enough of it. This would be whether in movies, music, gaming, I just love to way bass translates and tastefully seasons songs to scenarios.

Overall I do have small ears and although I feel like I have a big head, apparently I don’t according to the majority. The factory ear cups fit me perfectly without any discomfort although I did jump the gun and ordered the XL pads. I did give the XL pads a go but it did change the sound characters which I felt like it was important to note. Although the XL pads made it much more comfortable, It does matter the distance between your ears and the driver to achieve the quality the engineers designed to display.

Overall the build quality looked superb however I may have gotten unlucky as my bluetooth connectivity the right ear cup started making static noises almost hurting my ear. I tried a full hard reset but to no avail, I feel like it was a hardware failure on my end. (this is not being included in my star rated review as this seems coincidental.

I am aiming for a wired set up next and I do want to stick with the Vmoda brand as it seems promising. I have already filed for a return on this product and will test accordingly.

Love these headphones, my only irk with them is that they make a beeping noise when the battery is low. Additionally, the battery does not compare to my beats studios which seem to last much longer, but the audio quality in these definitely are much better and the build quality too (the bridge on the beats broke after like 3 months, dont think I will have that problem with these).

Sound-The sound is a mistery a bass leveling lrom low to mid-land high, tendencies of some vibration on the speakers depending of the source of the sound quality(mp3 other than other format….).Is made in Japan like aluminum material made that I caught on.
Battery-The battery is quite as good as my first headphones…
Distance- And can also go to longer distance depending of the source (Bluetooth 5.0).If you connect wire sound quality may improve…

I’ll have to update this later when I’ve used it more, but I just unboxed it from it’s gorgeous packaging. That’s not what matters to me though.

I’ve always been an audiophile in the way where great quality gives me shivers and the consistent thing that makes me giddy with happiness is good quality sound.

The second I chose a carefully selected favorite song that I knew well, and have listened to on many different systems and played it, it was absolute bliss.

My jaw dropped, it was actually mind blowing. Not to make this review sound like crazy raving, but I didn’t even know headphones could sound like this and I’ve had Vmodas before that were my previously favorite headphones.

I’ll update this later once I know the battery life and noise cancelation, but I just had to write a review now. This is fantastic. Do yourself a favor and just get these if you’re not on a budget.

These things are pretty durable, I’ve dropped these a couple of times and they hold up nicely.

I listen to these wirelessly most of the time and the sound quality pretty much sounds the same vs wired. (This is from a casual user’s perspective; I’m no audiophile)

I’m surprised the battery life lasts so long. I’ve gome through an entire 8hr shift at work and they still have some battery left. I actually charge these every 2-4 days, which is nice since I am kind of lazy at times.

Use them every day for music on my phone as well, built in mic. Works great which is more than I can say for other brands I’ve used. Super durable, had my last pair of vmodas for 6+ years, still do, still work just wanted to upgrade to bluetooth. I love this brand!

Great for commuting and sounds amazing. It’s a little pricey but I had an older model and they lasted me for over five years and are still running strong. I pulled the trigger on these and haven’t regretted it once yet. I use them while on the train or while cycling. I haven’t gotten any ear itch from the XL muffs as some have mentioned so A+ upgrade there for me. Bluetooth connection is solid and seemless. Sound is amazing. Please note I am not an “audiophile” I just like listening to music. In my humble opinion this is the best I’ve heard music with over ears. The face that you can fold these up to about half the size and hits high durability quality was a huge selling point for me because I wanted the ability to throw it in my bag and not worry and not lose half of my bags space. Overall these are practical for traveling with and the sound quality is amazing. Oh and battery life is good enough for me. I get through 4 days of commuting before the battery dies. Perfect for me. 5 stars! P.S. the sound quality improves dramatically when wired. Buy it already!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersOK so Im coming from m-100’s. They have the same great build quality as those. Metal hinges, solid feel and unique folding ability. They sound great. Bass is not overpowering, mids and highs are clear. exactly what you’d expect for a 300+ pair of cans. The area where they fail is the ear pads. After 30 minutes they were unwearable. Painful. OUCH! Mind you, I have normal sized ears. They don’t stick out nor are they exceeding large. I like many other purchased the xl pad and am now very happy with them. BUT for this much money you shouldn’t have to.

So in conclusion, expect to add another 20 to the cost of these and buy the pads when you place your order or trust me you will have to wait 2 days for them with cans you cant wear longer than 30 minutes.

Golden Review Award: 41 From Our UsersI am posting a previous review written for the CF2W in Rose Gold. I want to edit this to reference the the Codex version.

EDIT: I have the original CF2W in Rose Gold which already had the apt-X codec included. To my ears, the sound quality between the CF2W and the Codex version remains the same. I am primarily an Android user but have an iPhone for work use and will tell you if you have an iPhone the Codex version is the one to get. It includes AAC, which was not included in the first version. If you did not have the original in Rose Gold this is a must buy. Also, if you had the CF2W in Rose Gold know that if you want the Matte Black you can now get apt-X in the Matte Black color. It is still not a noise cancelling headphone.

The Codex version still has the V-Moda house bass but it is more controlled than in past offerings. It is the most balanced headphone that V-Moda has produced.

Let’s take a closer look at the best all around headphone, in my opinion, in the V-MODA stable. I am especially curious to hear the first headphone release since Roland has owned a major stake in V-MODA. I introduce you to the V-MODA Crossfade 2 Wireless.

To me, the name of the product, Crossfade 2 Wireless holds the key to this new offering from V-MODA. They are called the Crossfade 2 Wireless and not the Crossfade Wireless 2. In my opinion the company was trying to produce an excellent wired headphone with the addition of Bluetooth instead of vice versa. To my ears this is one of the first Bluetooth wireless headphones that sound almost equal wired vs.wireless, great job for a Bluetooth headphone.

The exoskeleton case is the usual V-MODA fare. Inside they provide strapping for cable storage and the headphones fold to create a small footprint and fit just perfectly in the case. One thing I thought was nice about this case is that there are vents to allow air into the case to assist in drying from sweating, particularly nice for DJ’s and workout buffs. There is also a Carbiner clip attached to the case, another nice touch.

The styling hasn’t changed much from some of the previous V-MODA styles and these are very distinctly V-MODA. All of the usual customization’s are available as well through the V-MODA site including the 3D printed shields. I want to add that owning a “Rose Gold” color did not appeal to me at first. Once I saw them, my opinion changed as it would be what I would describe as a deep copper color. I really like it. They also have the CliqFold hinge of the models past to create a small footprint for storage.

The build quality of the headphones and the cables are very good and sturdy and as usual the V-MODA’s are built like a tank. They are a touch heavy at 309g and also sit a bit heavy on the head. Included is a micro VAMP that functions when the headphone is in wireless mode. I am certain that ads a bit to the weight. Let me say that these are a very comfortable headphone, weight aside. The headband comfort has benefited from the five years of comfort research as well as the earpads being exceptionally conforming and comfortable. I easily wear them for my one hour walk in the morning and never feel the need to adjust them.

These are not ANC headphones so aside from the isolation inherent in the headphone there is not active noise cancelling to create an artificial buffer. The buffer against outside noise is created by the more than adequate isolation and the solid bass when listening to music. To some it might have been a nice addition but if active noise cancelling is not done right it can change the sound signature of the headphone. The positive here is there is nothing to negatively alter the impressive sound signature. These are Certified Hi-Res Audio (wired mode) but we are seeing that designation more and more.
They say you can expect 14+ hours of battery life. I am not seeing that quite that long, but I do utilize the volume on highest setting and use my cellphone or source to control the listening volume. I also play a lot of FLAC files when utilizing my Opus #2. If you are using the V-MODA REMIX, it is fully compatible with their, VAMP, internal amp in the REMIX.

I want to address the buttons on the headphones that control the Volume UP, Volume DOWN and Multi – Function button for pausing, answering calls etc. I am in favor of actual push buttons as opposed to touch controls on an earcup as I have found touch controls to be a little inconsistent. However, I am not a big fan of the feel or placement of these buttons. I find them a little difficult to push and to know which button you are pushing when you are feeling blindly above the earcup, with more Bluetooth listening time I am sure I could get used to the function.

With regard to the Bluetooth functionality, these paired easily with everything I attempted to pair them with. The Bluetooth functions phenomenally and I have found I can go the 30ft. as advertised without a drop. In fact I cannot recall any drop outs or disruption in sound when using them wirelessly. I have found when talking on the phone while using the Bluetooth, along with the built-in mic, people say they are noisy. Traffic or wind makes it frustrating for the other party. However, with the enclosed cable they are fine for conversation.

The overall basic first listen to the CF2W (CF2W for short, because I am tired as hell writing it out), is warm, and has a bass tilt as well, very reminiscent of their house sound. It is with time that you start to realize the nuances between these and other V-MODA offerings. They do have that V-MODA signature house bass, and that is okay, because as you listen the more you realize there is also a refined treble and midrange that is aptly apparent. As mentioned, the M-100 model the bass is so strong and overpowering that it bleeds into the lower midrange and then some. I am not being overly critical I am merely saying the M-100 have a place in fun music listening or if you are DJ, but not the best for detailed, critical listening. The CF2W is the most balanced offering yet from V-MODA. The bass is sculpted differently than in other models and provides bass detail and solid warmth and does not impede the other frequencies. I use these a lot outdoors and the bass is perfect to cover outside noise.

The midrange on CF2W are a little more forward than on previous V-MODA’s and the treble is ever present. The treble is never sharp or harsh and it has great tone and quality. Combine the treble with a more forward upper midrange the overall sensation is that of balance and detail. Given the fact that there is just a slight difference in extension between wired and wireless feel free to cut the cord without loss of sound quality. I do not want to only compare these to prior V-MODA’s, but in general these are an enjoyable listen and best so many other offerings available in the same price range.

In closing, I was pleasantly surprised with the CF2W. I had been a loyal Sennheiser Momentum 2 wireless guy since their release, recall and re-release. I never really cared to venture into the wireless realm with any seriousness. I will say that the CF2W has changed that and I have a new daily go to for my wireless listening.

Golden Review Award: 22 From Our UsersI have owned many of V-MODA’s amazing headphones over the years (from the M-80 to now the Crossfade ) and so I always expect a certain level of quality when it comes to them, and so far they haven’t disappointed. They are constantly innovating.

So I know my title can seem a bit of an oxymoron, but that was the first thought upon hearing these beautiful cans. These not only give you a gobs of beautiful bass, but it’s very clean and detailed. This headphone gives amazing low end punch and extends down to deliver some deep notes. That is where it shines. The mids are there and warm, vocals sounds great, and the highs soft but present. The overall sound sig is warm and non-fatiguing which is the overall sonic signature of many of V-MODA’s headphones, save for the M-100, which has a bit more sparkle up top (which makes it actually perfect for the commute – you don’t find and harshness up top while you’re increasing the volume a bit in loud environments). The Crossfade 2 Codex addition boast a big presence in the low end, but it is tight, does not bleed into the mids, and is incredibly detailed down to the lowest notes. It gives the music soul and presence. With these headphones you can just relax, wirelessly, let go and get your groove on.

For on-the-go everything about this headphone is perfect in that it’s built like a tank, the ergonomics are great as the headphones conform perfectly to your head, the low-end bass helps to drown out and isolate the sound from outside, the vents on the headphone make headphone sound a bit more airy and spacious, and the wireless nature is liberating. I am always skeptical about how a BT headphone can sound, but V-MODA has impressed me again with how organic and clear the sound is while making it wireless. Hats off.

These are built to last and sound great. Obviously, if you want a more neutral headphone, this may not be the headphone for you; I would then recommend you the V-MODA XS. But these are simply outstanding in what they deliver. V-MODA, I feel, are one of the rare companies that actually listen to their customer base and deliver accordingly: from the case, the cliqfold, build quality and the SQ. These definitely beat out many of their wired rivals. Highly recommended to anyone looking for an amazing-sounding, non-fatiguing, beautiful well-built headphone.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersOkay I recently purchased the BOSE QC35 II and for some reason it didn’t have the punch I heard when I tried it out at some electronic store. Also with the Bose QC35 II I read that you can use it as a gaming headphone’s as long as you buy the android cable. I bought the cable as well but all I heard is an annoying tone or buzzing sound so I end up returning both.

I purchased the headphones and boom pro mic last Friday and received it on Sunday and I was so excited to test it out. The sound quality is amazing it has the punch I was looking for and the build looks very strong. One thing I did notice was there is a little paint chip on one of the headphones arm it’s not big but still I purchase this brand spanking new and I expect it to be in good condition. I will try to see if I can exchange it if not it’s cool. Also I read here that this is fast connecting with Bluetooth, I have a Note8 and when I connect it will connect pretty fast but only on Audio mode I will have to turn the bluetooth on and off for the media to connect. Does anyone have any idea why is it doing that?

And for gaming I connected using the boom pro mic to my xbox one x and it works great but it is not as loud as I expected it to be.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersHaving used the past two versions of V-MODA’s wireless crossfade line for the past 3-4 years, I always wanted the APTX codec in the matte black version. This was limited to the Rose Gold version last year which I wasn’t a big fan of. So I used the matte black with the inferior sound codecs…until now that is. Got these this morning and have spent a good 6 hours with them comparing them to the Crossfade Wireless 2 (standard version) and I am in love. The richness, clarity and fullness of the sound is improved over the original version and that’s exactly what I was looking for. The rest of the package is identical, which has always been great. Extremely durable, comfortable (albeit slightly heavy compared to some other headphones in the category) and they have outstanding battery life (still on my first charge after 6 hours still at 70%).

If you’re a traveler the lack of noise cancellation might be a deal breaker for you, but I’ve take the original CFW2s on the plane and they did an outstanding job isolating the music and blocking out the airplane noise dramatically. I can’t get used to true noise cancelling headphones as the pressure bothers my ears, so these are definitely the next best thing.

The one area where V-MODA has not improved is their buttons. I’ve been complaining about the mushy and inaccurate buttons for years and that hasn’t changed. They may be a little more accurate but it’s just not a satisfying experience. The buttons just don’t feel great. They work fine, but I expect a little more clickyness in the 350 dollar price range. I still prefer the touch controls of some of the competitors. That said, they don’t sound as good, so I have to just live with that.

Anyway, to wrap it up, I can definitely recommend these headphones. Buttons aside, V-MODA continues to keep improving their wireless headphones and this obviously is the best version yet. Matte Black w/ APTX (for use w/ my OnePlus 6) is a dream. Sounds fantastic and looks great.
