Sturdily built and modestly priced, this cleaner has superb suction and is easy to empty. The brush bar is adjustable between hard floors and longer pile carpets and there is a useful instruction booklet.

VERY rarely do I write reviews, but this Hoover deserves credit, I was dubious about buying such a cheap
product, and went against my usual “pay for the best you get the best” but I was wrong big time.
took it out of the box, set it up to use on our Living room carpet that had just been hoovered by the enemy
only an hour or so before with our Dyson cordless, and oh my God, I couldnt believe how much it picked up.
I bought this for our new Static caravan with the aim of using it there, suffice to say, the Dyson is heading off to Wales, and the Vax is staying at home, fandabidozy.

For around 80 what more can you want, or get. The only let down is a missing ultra long vacuum hose, which would allow you to vacuum the stairs, without carrying the machine up the stairs with you. But because the machine isn’t that heavy it doesn’t really bother me, but for an older person it might do? I think there is a slightly more expensive model sold by Vax, that has this extra long vacuum hose built-in. I’ll defiantly being sticking with Vax vacuum in the future.

Pretty sure I’ve never bought a vacuum before in my 50+ years but had to learn new skills! Looked at 150/200+ options but thought why? 80 quid for this Vax and its great. Good doing it’s job, very easy to use and empty. Don’t spend hundreds on a vacum.

The vacuum motor and brush were very aggressive. We found it difficult to push along as the brush was digging into there carpet. The vacuum was was very good. We found using the attachments difficult, not easy to attach and awkward to use. Very poor instruction manual. We returned it.

This the best vacuum cleaner I have ever bought! The power is phenomenal; it almost had the hall carpet lifted, it was such a strong suction. My carpets were brand new just two years ago, and I vacuum every day; but the amount of dust, dirt and hair that filled it was shocking. I thought my last cleaner was good but clearly, it wasn’t. The first half dozen uses, I had to empty it. You just don’t realise how much muck the carpet will hold. Now I can see a massive difference and know that my carpets are spotles and have had a deep clean. I can not fault it.

I will rarely review an item on here but felt compelled to as this one really did pleasantly surprise us – We’d had a Dyson for the last 8 years or so and it finally gave up the ghost – We were on a limited budget and were initially looking for a powerful cordless to replace this – On reflection, we decided that the suction on a cordless just wouldn’t cut it unless we forked out for the big guns, Dyson or Shark. We decided to give Vax (also a great brand) a go and this one seemed to tick a lot of boxes in the spec. Initially not overly impressed when we 1st ran it over the carpet but then noticed the slip at the front which changes the suction based on the surface you’re on – Two words…Game changer!… Immediately we were impressed and it got the job done and then some – Definitely a recommendation form me – this one sucks…but in a good way!!

Had this Vax for a little while now. Best vacuum I have ever had and I paid a fortune for all the others. Suction is brilliant and you can turn the roller off for wooden floors if you need to. Only niggles is the motor does get hot but for the length of time I use it, its fine and the cord is thin so can get a bit tangled. Overall I am very happy with this powerhouse vacuum.

For the price I paid for this vacuum cleaner, I consider it to be excellent value for its price. I am a pensioner on low income, and this did not ‘break the bank’ in comparison to those which others were charging at the time. Good cord length and excellent suction. I don’t have stairs so I can’t comment on that. I recommend this vacuum to anyone with limited resources.

To Hoover I’ve had a lot of hoovers in my time but this one is the best I’ve had not to noisy, picks up great didn’t know there was so much dust underneath my carpet this Hoover made my carpet look almost new well worth the money!!!

For the cost this upright has plenty of suction and is overall a pretty good vacuum cleaner. One niggle, the hose is not flexible or long enough and its a little difficult to position it reach out to clean some places but the Vacuum is light enough to carry around while using.
The suction at the moment is excellent and better than my Dyson!!! Sometimes you have to weigh up the cost against performance and although not so flexible to use for the price the performance of the cleaner is well worth the money. And at this price if needs be replace it every few years. But…. VAX sort out the hose length and flexibility please.

The first time I used this hoover it sucked the carpet right up when it went forward but when I pulled it back it wasnt as powerful and I couldnt understand what was going on. I read the instruction booklet and it doesn’t only have an on/off button it also has a button to turn on the roller bar. When this button is pressed it is amazing and picks up so much stuff. Even though my carpet looked fine before it just shows how powerful this hoover is and how rubbish my old one is. I would defo recommend x

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersLove it!!! I have 2 cats and haven’t had a decent vacuum cleaner in ages, done one vacuum of a carpet and the cylinder was full, would recommend!
The only negative is the hose pipe is restricted when using attachments, it’s attached by a clip to the main body of the vacuum, clip doesn’t open.

Great cleaner and bought to replace an older model. Great suction and what a difference a few years make. However, thought the extension cable cheap and nasty. Just to save a few pounds the rounded cord has been dropped for a lighter weight, but it gets caught everywhere.

We now have three VAX machines and they are all working well, though some, with age, better than others.

I have had this previously before it packed out. No hesitation in buying this. Possibly the best around in this price point. Amazing suction and does a fab job.
Cons- Wish there was a extension pipe as the one connected is really short unless you yank it.

It took me about a 1000 years to choose another vacuum. With me having long long hair and the other half having Afro hairit’s worse than having a pet sometimes so because I’m ocd the vacuum comes out daily (which it should).
So apprehensive but honestly this thing is so good and the long bits of hair to the tiny bits of fro are scooped up. Only downfall I would say is the cord length. If it was that tad bit bigger – would have been the best vacuum I’ve ever purchased

I had one of these some years ago and this one is exactly the same. Has great suction. A bit difficult to manoeuvre with one arthritic hand though and the crevice attachment design is ridiculous. No way will it reach a corner of a low ceiling since it is attached to the brush end of the machine. That annoys me. Still it is 200.00 cheaper than my daughters Shark and for my purposes and environment a very good buy.

Powerful, light, and a pleasure to use. I didn’t realise how poor our expensive vacuum cleaner had become. It lifts everything, especially embedded dog hairs on those rugs that are especially difficult to clean. At this price this is truly a steal. If it lasts only a year, it would be more cost effective replacing it with another one and after another year repeat.

  38. GOQClaudehvjpe says:

     United Kingdom

For the price its worth it, total weight is 6kg, cord could be a little longer , suction is good, you can switch off the roller brush & just use suction if you need to use on hard floor/laminate etc, flexible pipe for stairs is short only stretches to about 4 steps then you’ll have to carry it,but then I’m comparing it to a Dyson which is 3x the price, not recommended for big house , but for apartments and small/medium sized house its perfect for the price

  39. CharlaHardman says:

This vacuum cleaner is one of the best I’ve used. It certainly rivals my old Dyson for sucking power. However, I have two negative points that prevents me from giving a five-star rating:

    1. The clasp on the handle of the cleaner that is meant to hold the brush attachment does not hold it securely. Therefore, every time you hit a skirting board while cleaning, the attachment falls off. I now leave mine in a cupboard and take out when needed.

    2. The hose attachment for cleaning stairs, ceilings etc is totally useless. The hose that attaches to the handle once detached from the machine, does not come away from the base of the machine. Therefore, you have to hold the whole vaccuum cleaner off the ground to use the attachment – hopeless!

    Other than that, great cleaner…

I was super amazed by the suction power , also very light weight. I’m blown away with this purchase. So glad I didn’t buy a more expensive one because I believe this puts the top brands to shame . Well done to the makers of this hoover .

I bought this vacuum just for one room that had a thick pile carpet which my Dyson was much too strong for. I’ve had this machine in the past and been quite happy with, however this latest one is definitely inferior in quality of material, very plasticky and also shorter length cable which is annoying. The suction I find though is perfect for my thick pile carpet and the machine itself is light to move around. I think it’s a matter of personal choice about the weight. Shame about the plastic, not sure it will last too long. Having said that, for me personally, it does the job I wanted it to.

  43. MichelleMadigan says:

This is a neat & tidy upright with great suction power and easy to use. Rather than having to raise and lower the brush head, the design has been been made even simpler by placing a vent on the top. As a result the difference between the suction strength settings is quite significant, making short pile carpets easy to vacuum. I don’t buy expensive vacuums as I feel the cheaper end of the market works just as well, as long as the wattage is decent and you look after it. If I had one gripe it’s the lead is slightly shorter than my previous vacuum by another maker. It makes it not quite long enough to go from one room to another without having to unplug and replug in a different room.

I recently moved into a new home and have used a VonHaus stick vacuum I had from my old place to clean the carpets, which seemed to do the job perfectly well – that was, until about eight weeks ago when it started to (literally) fall apart. I tried to stick it together with tapes, glues and blu tack, but it was only going to be a matter of time before the whole thing disintegrated.

So I ordered the Vax Mach Air as a replacement. Firstly, this thing is a BEAST compared to the stick vacuum I had. Once I’d made head and tail of how to set it up, I got to work on the carpets. My god, this thing has some serious suction power.

Let’s just say that you’re going to get a work-out using this thing on a carpet. You are literally playing tug-of-war with it whilst the machine is doing its thing. I would mention that it might be a little too powerful for those with a frail disposition.

After its first pass on two relatively small carpets, the collection chamber was full – and I mean FULL – with human dust, sawdust from woodworking I’d done the previous year, hair, crumbs, detached pile and other detritus that had taken root beneath the surface. The shallow pile of the carpets was beaten back into shape mercilessly by the brush bar, restoring some very flat areas that have been squashed over time by footfall and chairs.

There is a button next to the power switch which disables the brush bar, which means that if you’ve got the same sort of pile thickness in all your rooms, you’ll never need to adjust anything again – simply press the button when approaching hard floors such as vinyl or laminate, then press it again when entering a room with a carpet you want to beat the bejeezus out of. Always disable the brush bar on hard flooring, as it can and most probably will, scratch.

With regards to the hard flooring, the only gripe I have is that it has so much suction power that the vacuum head can often clamp itself to the surface – so again, be prepared for some heavy arm action in places. That said, the finish and clean you get easily outweighs this tiny gripe. There was a layer of fine dust that had accumulated in corners that my previous machine couldn’t remove – promptly eviscerated by this machine.

Emptying the chamber, cleaning the filters and brush bar are a cakewalk and intuitive. The brush bar itself is a little more demanding and requires some screws and clips to be removed and replaced, but nothing remotely taxing.

If you know how to use a screwdriver, you know how to remove, clean and replace the brush bar – and I would recommend familiarising yourself with how to do it as soon as possible after purchase. Hair always manages to find its way into this compartment, knot together and can make it seize up if not regularly cleaned. There are a number of helpful videos online that can walk you through it.

What more to say? It made me realise that my previous stick vacuum, whilst excellent value for the money simply didn’t have the grunt to clean my carpets properly. If you like a work-out and carpets so clean you could eat your food off them, then this is just the job. Highly recommended.

I used to think the more expensive it is, the better it works but with this one I am pleased it did the work .very affordable and it’s worth it, the one I had before the suction was not that good and it was very expensive, I will definitely recommend this one, its very light and it doesn’t make so much noise which is lovely because I have a toddler who doesn’t like loud noise so this is perfect for me excellent.

Best thing ever, it's worth buying with no regrets

Bought to replace a smaller unit and boy what a buy!! We have 3 dogs and this thing sucks, sucks every hair out of the carpet that gets shed off the animals.

Light to swing about the place and gets nicely into corners. Ideal slider for hard to soft flooring amd simple enough to empty out as well.

Bottom line, this unit will suck the chrome off a trailer hitch!!

Oh my goodness, this hoover is perfect. Despite one design fault (the handle fits the wrong way round), this is light and easy to use, and so quiet. I live in a flat, so no stairs. This little gem takes just half an hour to clean my whole home. Have to empty it after every use, but as I have a cat that’s to be expected. My last hoover never picked up half the amount and was very hard work. This Vax is perfect for anyone with balance and dizzy spells. As a member of VEDA UK, I will be recommending this to my fellow dizzies.

This was our first vaccum in our new apartment, we just needed a vaccum cheaply and this does the job. It works quite well, although we do have wooden floors so I cannot comment on how it would work with carpet. Overall it is a good performer for a first time vaccum

Good points light to carry, easy to empty and has powerful suction
    Not so good
    Limited tools included
Extension tube not very long so whilst it will reach skirting boards it is not long enough to reach ceiling for cobwebs it is also fiddly to use tools because of the design of the vacum.

    Update
I made the decision to return the vacumn after one use due to the tools not being fit for purpose if you have stairs don’t buy

I have used cylinder vacuums for years now but decided to buy this one after reading the reviews. I completely agree that it has really good suction, is easy to put together and is lightweight. There is one review that states that it had to be emptied twice on the first use due to the dust and embedded pet hair in the carpets, and I couldn’t agree more. I was shocked to see how much dust was in the carpets before!
This product thoroughly deserves the 5 star rating, particularly for the low cost.

A little ‘plasticy’ but solid enough and simple to use. I replaced a drag behind you with hose type cleaner with this and am very impressed with both suction and the brush which removed loads more dirt from my carpets than the old one. Relatively easy to empty the cylinder and connect the attachment… a lot easier when I use it next, having learned ropes. Only one use but impressed. No stairs so can’t comment but it’s lighter to lift than my old Miele.

As said great little vacuum, living in a bungalow I could not ‘score’ for stairs instead I measured how easy is it to hold whilst using extension tube for above head cleaning – cobwebs etc., I find it rather heavy to hold for periods beyond 3 minutes. It is good on floors and not too heavy to push if you get the air flow slider in the right place for the type of flooring. Not had it long but so far so good.

  56. CameronAshley says:

Really pleased with this vax, it picks up pet hair better than any I’ve tried so far and is very easy to use.
Reading some of the other reviews I notice people saying they couldn’t get the brushes at the front to turn, well, you have to press a button located on the side just under the power button and have the Vax reclining for the brushes to start turning.
Also unless you set the slider button located on the front of the vax to the correct surface ie carpet or smooth flooring you might as one review mentions find it hard to push but only because the Vax is designed to work efficiently on multiple surfaces of differing levels.
The dust collector is really easy to empty and is just a push button release so takes hardly any time.
Suction power is great and its not a noisy machine, it sounds quieter than most of the other cleaners I’ve used.
The filter is so easy to remove, located just under the removable dust collector.
Cable is plenty long enough for the average room coverage and is easily stored wound round the back of the unit as is standard on upright cleaners.
The added tools as also clipped to the unit so they don’t get lost and are to hand when you need them.
I’m so pleased with it especially for the price as it does as much as many other more expensive models that I’ve used.
