I use this product, to stop the gnat flies from hatching eggs on top of the soil. So I cover the top soil with this. It works

The balls are uneven, but I have not noticed any issues with this. Have various plants (peace lily, monstera adansonii, tradescantia zebrina, marantha and some hoyas) happily growing in this substrate without problems. You do need to rinse them, as they are very dusty and dirty. I just chuck them in a plastic tray and leave outside in the rain. It’s easy, rinses all the dust off and the leca balls are pre-hydrated with rain water, win win.

Pour un rempotage d automne des plantes sur ma terrasse, ce gros sac est d un prix interessant. Les billes sont grosses, ce qui permet de gros trous au fond des pots et d eviter ainsi l eau stagnante . Je racheterai les memes so besoin.

There’s not a photo in the item description and fool that I am I didn’t check the reviews for photos, but I do find that the size on the pebbles varies A LOT and if you have a small pot, you’ll need to cherry pick the pebbles you want. Thankfully I didn’t want them for semi-hydro or anything— so far they’re mixed in (10%) with bark for my orchids and they seem to be doing fine. I think we’re at week three right now, but I’ll update if I run into any problems.

Package speaks for it self. Please mind it’s not standard round, light brown pebbles, these ones are much darker shade and nothing close to round ones. Usage don’t change

    Happy :)

Just the job for bulking up the bottom spaces of very large planters (with a couple of lidded 2 litre empty plastic milk cartons thrown in), which reduce the need for massive amounts of compost and as an aid to aeration and drainage. Could not be better, even without using the pebbles for decorative purposes atop the planters.

Golden Review Award: 26 From Our UsersI’m more than happy with the 45L bag of chunky clay pebbles I received from VitaLink. I initially ordered these for use as a drainage layer within some large, ‘closed plant’ terrariums I’m making up. However, the practical size of these means they’ll also come in very useful for placing in the bottom of my indoor/outdoor plant pots – so no more hunting around in the garden/shed for shards of pottery, or large pieces of gravel!

If you’re a keen potted plant lover, or you’re into making closed plant terrariums (like me), then it’s a no-brainier really when deciding whether to purchase the 10L or the 45L bag, let me tell you that the 45L bag works out far more economical. I’ve taken a photo of my bag, and placed a 5 litre container nearby to give you an idea of the bag size (I’m nice like that ). When dry, these pebbles are a greyish-brown colour, which turns to a dark brown/black colour when wet. I much prefer the colour of these to the orange ones out there, which look unnatural to me – but each to his/her own I guess. As the guys and gals at VitaLink suggest, it’s best to wash these pebbles before use, because by their very nature they will create a small degree of dust after rattling around in their bag. It’s worth mentioning that one of the big advantages of these pebbles is that they are very light – most important in terrarium builds, where you’ll obviously want to keep the weight within your glass containers to a minimum. I do like that these are slightly irregularly shaped, and that they have a stable EC and pH, meaning that they will not significantly affect the pH of your nutrient solution, or leak undesired minerals. If you are searching for good quality clay pebbles, then look no further – get yourself a bag of these, and I’m sure you’ll be as satisfied as me. Highly recommended.

    An excellent drainage layer. 🪴👍

Ideal as a potting mix/mulch for houseplants, and a decent sized bag. Definitely lightweight compared to other products occupying the same volume. Worth rinsing before use if applying as a top dressing as it will be quite dusty

After searching for some small pebbles to place onto my plant pot soil, this product was the more cost effective. The bag is a good size & will cover the tops of the soil in alot of pots. I would advise pouring out the gravel into a bucket outside as quite a bit of dust comes out from the bag. I also washed them in water before placing into the pots. Overall I am very happy with this product.

These pebbles look very good in the pot, they retain moisture there is 10 kg in the bag more than enough for several pots an excellent product with an excellent price.

Currently using these stones as decorative pieces in the garden and they do what they say on the bag.
The pictures of the product are pretty accurate too, but the bag I bought was bigger than I was expecting.
Maybe check the weight and how many stones you need before committing to the larger sizes.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI used this to pot up my 3 orchids into one self watering trough style planter. my orchids had all been a bit stagnant and sad looking. they are now all flourishing with new leaf growth and roots. it was very easy to pot up. As the rocks are varying sizes I could use the bigger one to fill the big empty spaces and smaller ones to fill in the gaps in and around the roots. the only thing i wish i had done before planting up was wash them under a tap (they have clay dust residue) and soak them for a bit to pre fill all the porous holes in the clay. there is still loads left after repotting the orchids. My next project will be to use them at the bottom of a hydroponic glass planter to give the roots something to latch onto. Really good product, I would definitely recommend.

Very glad I found these. The clay pebbles are perfect for adding humidity as well as raising houseplants up inside their pots. Whilst looking for similar products, I could not believe the prices some companies are charging for what is essentially pretty coloured gravel chips! These do exactly the right job at a sane price.

I have a collection of a few dozen cactuses and succulents; they are quite young plants, and most need repotting at least once during the season. I’ve run out of old pots, and this makes a reasonable substitute, being clean to handle, and allowing surplus water to drain from the roots. Some of pebbles are rather small, however, and fall through th drainage holes of even the littlest pots, and I’ve had to discard them. Even so, the contents of the bag will do for a couple of seasons, and I’ll buy them again.

I wash these pebbles and use a good layer of them to line the bottom of my pots and planters. They seem to retain moisture well thus keeping the roots of my plants moist for longer, especially in dry or windy weather when the top of the compost dries out fast. This is the third time I’ve bought them and, no doubt, I shall buy more although I do recycle them from one pot to another as planting evolves.

That’s my second bag of this product. This time I bought it to use with semi-hydroponic. Not as happy, but that’s my own expectation.

Product is perfect to use for pebble trays, as a bottom layer for plant pots, to add to soil mix.
With hydroponic problem is that you have to flush it multiple times with water to get rid of the dust/sand/dirt mixed in it otherwise you will have really murky water.

Price is brilliant for the uses I have listed above. No point for overpaying if your planning to use it only for the bottom of plant pots!

This bag of clay pebbles comes in very handy for use in my latest hobby – bottle gardens! I have started to plant up Terrariums (huge sealed bottled with an entire eco-system inside) and they need many layers of different substrates to hold and filter water etc. These are VERY lightweight and create a perfect little drainage reservoir of water at the bottom. Anything leftover will be used in my garden to help my containers to thrive.
    I highly recommend this product.
