As some may know Raspberry Pi have been creating and selling SBC’s (Single Board Computer) for over a decade.
One of the products they provide is the (half a credit card sized) Compute Module or CM4 range. This has all the RAM, wireless connectivity. processor etc BUT NO connection to power or ports. Originally intended for industrial purposes it needs a carrier board to provide connectivity, power and so on.
Most are pretty big and bulky and provide you will full access to the full suite of ports and connectors .
This board however strips you down to a same size as the CM4 module and provides you all the ports you need to get up and running. RJ45 Ethernet, USB-A port for old school peripherals, 3.5 mm audio input/ouput, Mini HDMI for video ouput and a CSI and DSI connector for a camera and small display along with the full set of GPIO pins if you need it. All powered by a USB-C power socket
If you need a full throttle Raspberry Pi 4 and want it as small a form factor as practical with access to most of the ports you need, then this is the way to go…….
It also provides the necessary switch function so that you can flash the CM4 module if you go for the onboard eMMC memory version as opposed to the venerable micro SD-Card for storage.
I use one of these to run the Wazuh server environment for all the laptops/desktops in my extended family to provide a full and free and open source platform used for threat prevention, detection, and response. Can’t be too careful nowadays….
