This has lots of great reviews, and I thought this would be particularly useful in current climate of trying to keep everywhere as clean as we can in terms of viruses and air bourne particles. I have tried this in various rooms in the house and was pleased to say that most of the rooms were blue – which means air quality good- however I have to say that when on it has an almost oil based/petrol/engine smell. I could understand this to start of with – afterall it does have a motor inside, and probably has some lubricant in it- but having used it for about 50 hours in different rooms and sessions- I walk into the room and can just smell some kind of oil based/shed/engine type smell. I have no doubt that it is an excellent product- I had hoped to use this in my classroom as an extra way to help improve air quality- but can’t get based the smell I am afraid. I did ask my husband and family to also see if they can smell it, as my smell as been slightly adrift after having Covid in January- but they could also notice it. I will keep persevering and running it in lesser used room to hope that the odour eventually fades away. Other than that from the spec on information it looks good, and it is certainly a well built bit of kit. It is not that noisy when in use, but would find it hard to listen to anything motorised fanwise at night.
Bought it mainly to control odour from cat litter. I can definitely smell the difference when it is in used or not.
The only problem with writing a review for a device like this is that of “how do you know it is effective” – you’d have to repeat a month with the same conditions and decide whether or not you feel better with it on, or not. A bit like the paracetamol problem – did the headache go because you took one, or would it have gone anyway?
Anyway philosophical conundrums aside this does seem to be doing something – this past month has been bad for pollen and I fell a lot better inside than outside, so ……?
I’ve also noticed that if there is any activity in the house – hoovering, cooking, etc. – it does react and increase its activities – it really didn’t like fried sausages today!
It is also quiet overnight
Definitely worth a go
This is my first air purifier so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I honestly never thought much about its practical use but when reading the product description, it seemed pretty interesting, mainly because I tend to get pollen allergies around this time of the year.
First of all, it was larger than I expected! But luckily it is a very nicely designed machine, so I don’t mind it being visible it my house at all. It has a slick black and white design with a touch screen at the top.
I though about putting it in the bedroom to improve the air quality during my sleep, but I’m a light sleeper so the sound kind of bothers me. However, in sleep mode it’s very quiet so I could probably get used to the sound. It has different fan speed levels and while the lower ones are pretty quiet, the highest one is very loud! Not ideal for when you’re home but I suppose it’s not a problem when you’re out of the house.
I decided to put it in the living room with open kitchen instead, so it could deal with dust, kitchen smells and general air quality. I do think it makes a difference, mainly smells seem to disappear quicker. Hard to say if my allergies are playing up less but it doesn’t hurt to try!
It’s also really easy to use. All in all I’m very pleased with this air purifier.
I live on a main road and when I have the windows open the amount of dust is shocking, I have been running this air purifier for a few weeks and It has made such a difference. It is not small but not huge either and I have been using it just in my Kitchen, this is the room where I have the most dust, just from having the kitchen windows open my worktops were getting covered in dust!.
Since I have been using this it has reduced dramatically. It definitely does what it is meant to do.
It’s brilliant for the price. Really effective.
This is the second Winix air purifier that I’ve used, and I’m really impressed with both of them. We live in an old house which seems to generate dust etc all the time, so I’m keen that we have something that can filter the air.
Setup is really easy and straightforward. Takes a minute, maybe 2 and you’re up and running. We use this one in the bedroom so tend to just leave it on sleep mode rather than make use of the auto mode. It happily sits there with a vary faint hum in the background. I have tried it on auto and it generally works very well, occasionally revving up in speed (and volume) although to be honest I’m never quite sure what it has sensed to need such additional power.
It is larger than I was expecting. It’s not the sort of thing you necessarily want out on display, but it will sit quite happily say at the side of a sofa.
Replacement filters aren’t necessarily the cheapest but from experience they do last well, and continue doing a good job.
Overall a good product. Not the cheapest but it does work well, and so overall good value for money.
At one time, when dust and pollen were our only concerns, an air purifier would’ve seemed a non-essential luxury, but these days they’re probably the gadget every home should have. Even once vaccinated people are allowed to visit each other’s homes (possibly without masks), an air purifier will make things feel considerably safer.
This is my second air purifier, and I feel it’s a good one. It’s chief asset is its simplicity. Once its filter is unwrapped and inserted, you simply plug in and switch on. The controls are clear to see (and understand) illuminated on top of the purifier. I found it fairly quiet when running. It has a choice of fan speeds. It claims to have plasmawave technology to neutralise airborne bacteria and viruses.
The price seems pretty good value compared to some other purifiers. However, its filter will need changing periodically and that will be 39 each time. The purifier will alert you when a new filter is required. Certainly a gadget worth having in these strange new times.
I really like the concept of air purifiers, so was more than happy to try this one out and have been pleasantly impressed with it.
Much larger than what I was expecting, however the design is really sleek and modern, so actually looks like quite a feature where it’s placed- this absolutely compensates for the size of it.
I decided to have this in the kitchen as I do a lot of cooking and feel it’s been the ideal place for it. Control panel changes with the quality of air, so basically you know when it’s at work doing it’s thing.
I imagine this would be amazing for people with allergies, certainly in your bedroom to aid a restful sleep- this would be easy to do as it’s really quiet.
Equally I have a cat and do think this is helping with cat ‘smells’ that naturally come with pets. I imagine this would be great for people who have dogs to take away the smell that comes with them when they have a great/rainy walk.
Has quite a bit of information about the effectiveness with bacteria and infections- which is always an added bonus.
Comes with instruction manual, although set up/using this is very straight forward I found.
Priced at just shy of 100 seems reasonable for this high quality product- I’ve certainly seen purifiers priced at much higher than this.
Overall we’ve been really impressed with this and more than happy to recommend.
i was dubious about this at first but i was very impressed by it. we use it in the kitchen and after you’ve cooked, simply put this on for an hour and it’s so fresh and clean.
even at max, it’s very quiet and on silent you cannot hear it at all.
it’s very easy to operate and intuitive.
I love this purifier. I never knew I needed or wanted a purifier but now I have one there’s no going back. We have houses being built behind us and it has caused a lot of dustiness in our home but I didn’t realise how much until we ran the purifier and the air does feel cleaner. I’ve even seen the air quality light go from green to amber when the building works are particularly vibrating the house.
We set this up in our bedroom and even though it’s a lot bigger than I imagined it does fit quite well and has a nice sleek design. Really fast to set up, we just put it on auto and let it do it’s thing. It’s generally a quiet hum that we don’t notice, if it kicks up a mode when air quality dips it is a bit louder but it hasn’t bothered us. We sleep with it on and have no issues (we did get used to white noise with our baby though). You could always turn it off while you sleep though if you like silence.
HEPA stands for high-efficiency particulate air. A HEPA filter is a type of mechanical air filter that works by forcing air through a fine mesh that traps harmful particles such as pollen, pet dander, dust mites, and tobacco smoke. This unit is priced at 99.
It is a modern looking unit and although compact was still a little larger than I was expecting.
These are designed to improve your air quality and it has touch sensitive controls. It is fairly easy to use, it comes already assembled, you just need to remove the plastic of the filter, plug in and you are good to go. The filter is in the bottom tray, a light will illuminate when this needs replaced.
There are three settings on the unit – auto mode which detects the air quality and adjusts the fan accordingly, sleep mode which operates at a lower decibel and fan speed where you can adjust it manually.
The ring around these will illuminate depending on the air quality – red is poor, orange is fair and blue is good.
This is one of these things that can be hard to prove, but with having allergies I will try anything for cleaner air. Time will tell if it helps but for now I’m going to rate it 4*.
I have allergic rhinitis and it bothers me throughout the entire year. I know I am allergic to house dust mites but it is obvious that I probably have other unidentified allergies. I already own 2 small plug-in air purifiers. I keep one in the bedroom and one in the kitchen. I must admit that I haven’t really noticed much improvement with these purifiers and I hoped that a large purifier such as this would be more effective. I have to admit that when it arrived I realised that it was much bigger than I had expected! (My fault for not reading the product description fully). However, I found a spot in the living room where it is not too obtrusive. In any case it is quite an elegant design so it actually looks quite attractive. It was very easy to set up with only one minor issue. This was that the control panel, which is on the top of the purifier, is behind black perspex. This meant that the controls could barely be made out. Because of this I at first thought that I had to remove the perspex lid in order to reach the controls. I was wrong – the perspex is a touch screen and you simply have to touch the power button through the lid in order to switch the purifier on. The control panel then lights up. The instruction leaflet does not tell you this – I discovered it purely by accident. The led light which is displayed indicates the quality of the air. A blue light indicates that the air quality is good, an amber light shows it is fair, and a red light shows it is poor. I know the purifier is working as I have seen the light changing from blue to amber in certain circumstances. One case was when my husband was emptying my paper shredder close by and this created dust. On another occasion I was ironing using a steam iron near the purifier and again the amber light came on. There was a similar situation when I was cooking (frying) in the kitchen with the door left open. I would also mention that the purifier is extremely quiet; indeed it is much quieter than the 2 small plug in purifiers which I have. It is too soon to say whether this device will help my allergies but I am hopeful. It seems like a good device which is worth trying.
We have used a Philips air purifier for a number of years and have found it essential during the pollen season – so we were keen to see how this A332 model by WINIX compared with our older Philips model. The Philips is a much more sophisticated machine that has wireless features controlled by a Smartphone app — but it was considerably more expensive than this Korean-made WINIX, and somewhat bigger. The WINIX A332 air purifier is the smallest and cheapest model in the WINIX range and is suitable for rooms up to 45m, making it ideal for most bedrooms or living rooms. My mother-in-law has been suffering during this tree pollen season so we set up the WINIX in her living room and after a running it for a couple of days there was a noticeable improvement in the air quality. This model has a single filter which is in situ on arrival but needs to be removed and refitted so the wrapping can be removed before use. The filter is a “Winix Filter O Filter for Air Purifier A330, A332 and Compact” and is currently thirty-nine pounds from Amazon — it should be changed about every six months but the machine tells you when this is due; you will need to factor that into the ongoing running costs. The A332 air purifier itself is currently ninety-nine pounds from Amazon and is supplied with one filter so you could say that the machine itself costs about sixty quid — pretty good value for the features and performance. This model stands well over a foot tall and is straightforward to use — all the controls are on the top in the style of a large Smart-speaker — and air is drawn in all around, through the filter, then out the top. We are not too sure about the PlasmaWave Technology but so far the claims made for this model seem to be valid — noticeably cleaner air after a couple of days use and running surprisingly quiet most of the time. We rate the WINIX A332 air purifier with five stars for performance and value at the current price.
his is a true hepa filter air purifier from the brand winix, which is a korean company that well known for high quality air purifiers, and yes, this air purifier is made in korea; goods produced in korea have excellent reputation, so i have much confidence to this purifier
first of all, size of this air purifier is less than a half of my previous used air purifiers, very compact and i could place it on table use without any problem, i mainly use it in my study room, where i have a 3d printer that may work continuously for a long time (10-20 hours). the printer may produce plastic substance and fume with the filament material, long term exposure to these is definitely unhealthy to human
so i put this air purifier next to the printer whenever i need to use it, this air purifier doesn’t occupy much space i could put it in little table space remaining next to the printer
well, the sleek design of the air purifier look nice! there is a touch panel on the top with 5 buttons (power, speed, auto, slient, plasmawave), intuitive and easy to use
it’s very quiet when working in low speed or slient mode, noise acceptable in medium speed, and the fan is quite loud in high speed, but it’s very typical, all air purifier would make similar noise in its max power, moreover, it’s still much quiet than my 3d printer in fact
one common feature of air purifiers is ionizer, which most of my previously used air purifiers included that, but this air purifier features something called plasmawave, which is a technology of winix, that functions work pretty much like ionizer, but it’s a different technology that claims it won’t irritate asthma or breathing issue conditions; however, all of these technology would emit certain amount of ozone, although they’re complied with the healthy standard, but i still believe accumulated ozone in a small room still not good to health, so i usually turn this function off when human/pet is inside, only use it while no one is in the room
there is no timer function with this air purifier, so i have to remember turn it off manually; gives me a bit inconvenient as i used to leave air purifier on to filter air in different rooms, if there is a timer function, i don’t have to worry about overrun it
all in all, i’m very happy with this product, would recommend
We have never had an air purifier before, so I was really excited to give this one a try and I have to say it’s really change my thoughts on them. I wanted to see if it would help with my hay fever and allergies because sometimes I will wake up with a blocked nose and a headache.
The purifier itself is a lot bigger than I expected, but I think now that the bigger the better in this case. It feels really well made and looks very modern. It is very easy to use and has a good sized display to change the settings, some of the modes included are auto and sleep mode and there is also an option of 3 fan speeds.
Overall, I’m really pleased with it so far and I really feel it’s helped remove a good amount of dust or pollen particles from our bedroom.
So this air purifier has a decent HEPA filter.
That’s good, but it does need to be replaced every 6 months, that’ll increase the cost of long-term ownership – if you can get one that is.
In theory this provides nice filtered air, the only downside is that it is a bit loud. On low power mode it’s fine, but anything higher and it becomes too noisy.
As such, I give it 4 stars.
A great machine. Very reasonably price considering the size of this. Much bigger than I thought it was going to be. Uses a HEPA filter that is advisable to change every 6 months. Good price solid item good build overall would recommend if you want an air purifier.
I intended to run this purifier for a while before reviewing but am so pleased with it that I am writing review of my first impressions. If anything changes later I will write an update.
My home is not the easiest to keep dust free. I live on a dusty and busy unmade road in a semi rural area and my home is open plan with living and kitchen plus stairs all in one open space which is somewhat larger than the recommended maximum for this appliance. Just to make things worse we have warm air heating which helps to blow any dust around.
Keeping the dust down has always been a problem and surfaces such as the black glass top on the tv and hifi unit and the current love of piano black among manufacturers tend to look as if they have never been cleaned within an hour of dusting.
Setting up this unit was extremely easy. Just a case of open the filter cover to take the plastic bag off the filter, replace the filter, plug it in and turn it on. The control panel provides options for fan speed but the automatic option works very well. A sensor checks the level of dust in the air and runs the fan accordingly. An LED ring on the panel goes from blue to orange to red showing the level of pollution and the fan speed. So far ours has defaulted to blue (good) and occasionally changes to orange (medium). The fan can just about be heard when running on blue but not enough to be intrusive.
Now the big test. All surfaces were dusted but the floors were purposely not vacuumed as I was not looking to make the house sterile. The purifier was turned-on to automatic and two days later with the rear patio doors open for most of the daylight hours, my wife and I at home and moving around and there is not a spec of dust anywhere. The whole house looks freshly cleaned still. It has also become noticeable that my sneezing with hay fever has reduced considerably.
The advertising for this purifier makes a big point of it taking viruses and other microscopic particles out of the air. I have no way of checking how effective it is but have no reason to doubt the claims and at a time when virus transmission is a major problem and we are advised to open windows to increase ventilation I am happy that any improvement that this device makes has got to be good.
The purifier has not been running long enough for any maintenance to be needed but the simple instructions state that the filter should be vacuumed every couple of weeks and changed annually. I note the filters are available on Amazon and the price makes running the purifier cost around 75 pence per week.
I have not tried the “night mode” which further reduced fan speed and sound as it has been used in the living room but it works so well at keeping the dust down that I am now thinking about ordering a second for the bedrooms.
