Great tool! Did not realize how awesome this company was until my mechanic buddy saw it and started saying it was the only brand he will buy his air ratchets from! It’s been an absolute beast and rips off any nut or bolt like butter!

I’ve been using this stuff for over 30 years, a must have for running air tools. Good price for name brand. Oil for all, greese for geared (angled) tools.

I’ve used this daily at my job for the past few weeks. I absolutely love this air ratchet. It’s strength surprised me in a good way. Strong enough I’ll use a 1/4 to 3/8 adapter for bigger sockets so I can remove bigger bolts. We will see how it holds up in the long run but so far I am impressed. Remember to lubricate you air tools.

strong ratchet. only dislike is the trigger. speed of the ratchet can be varied by the trigger, but not as precisely as my other snap-on ratchet. also trigger seems to put my hand in a location that get is the way often. maybe it sticks out too far, or the overall size of the handle is too big. otherwise it is a strong ratchet at a great price when compared to snap-on models. and this brand is a good name.

Although a bit larger than a traditional air ratchet it allows for a lot of leverage and has much more power. I mainly use it for hood adjustment on buses as it requires a ridiculous number of extensions to get to with the hood closed. This tools added power allows me to do that and not worry about applying leverage by hand to work quickly.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersPlenty of power for an air ratchet, not meant to be used like an impact gun. Doesn’t seem to use a ton of air, my 8 gallon compressor was plenty for this.

This is an outstanding battery powered ratchet. I work in heavy industry and many of my co-workers have Snap-On, MAC, Milwaukee and other assorted cordless ratchets. This Ingersoll Rand ratchet by far out performs them. It had almost 10 ft/lbs more torque than the closest competitor. And many more ft/pounds more torque than the average. It also has a much better battery placement allowing a much more flatter profile and fitting into the typical places where such a ratchet is used. I would strongly recommend over any other big name cordless ratchet.

    UPDATE:
Going on a couple of years now and the ratchet and battery are still going strong. To be clear though, the one battery version I received had a 1.5 Ah battery. The 2.5 Ah battery is much larger (almost twice the size) and I think it would preclude the reason for getting the ratchet as it would interfere with the slimline fit of the ratchet as a whole.

Best cordless ratchet available bar none

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersGood, inexpensive, comparable performance to the Snap-On equivalent…
The air discharge location is kinda annoying you can adjust it’s direction but sometimes it’s still an issue especially when trying to work quickly you have to make a split second choice of getting blown in the face with air or turning it away form you and getting the recoil effect of dust and rust blown in your face depending on what your working on or forget altogether and it will be a surprise. I’m use to air ratchets discharging out the bottom of the handle but that’s jest me I guess.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI received the kit as pictured and #67 grease. It doesn’t bother me. The tube of grease screws on the tube like it should. You have to squeeze on the tube and press on the plunger to get it primed. The drawback is, the nozzle tip is too pointy. If you have Central Pneumatic 90 degree grinders. The nozzle depresses the grease port bearing down but does not seal around the hole. Allows grease to flow all over the place. I solved it by machining .040 thousands off the nozzle tip. Works great now. However, I bought the canister type too. The nozzle is tip the same. It is perfect for Dotco 90 degree grinders. Dotco has their own grease gun but made of plastic. Nozzle tip wears out over a period of time. If you get either for Dotco. The nozzle tips are perfect. Dotco grease port sizes are smaller. Wish a set of assortment sized nozzle tips were available.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersUsed this air ratchet for the first time while traveling for work. I install automated robotic machinery all over the United States and every shop I go to has an ample supply of air to run their machinery so I thought okay no problem. Well this shop this week didn’t have their big compressor hooked up yet and all they had was a small pancake air compressor. I though darn, this air ratchet is going to be useless. I was completely surprised that it was still able to break bolts loose and speed up the process. I could see it being a real powerhouse when used with a legit air system but for this week it did just fine. I’ll be doing a side by side comparison next week with my new Milwaukee electric ratchet to see how the power stacks up. I’m willing to bet that it won’t be on the same level as my IR air ratchet though.

    To be continued…

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersOne of the people in “answered questions” claimed it was US made, Mine was made in China but I had already expected that…
I have had a couple of the big “Snap On ratchets” FAR-72 etc… Those as others have stated were absolute Junk.
But comparing it to a “Snap On” this has a much more comfortable grip and nicer feel overall. The reverse know on the head works very smoothly. AND THIS THING IS SIGNIFICANTLY MORE QUIET… I compared the noise level to a lighter duty unit from Lowes (Husky I think) and this was no louder maybe even a bit quieter to my ear. as for power not quite as much grunt as the Snap On but still pretty good for the Money.
If I had to decide today I would definitely buy this again.

    That being said
There’s a few things you need to know
watch where you keep your hands when it’s triggered and tightened it’s a wrist snatcher as advised I think it’s averaged 68-78 ftlbs for me (air pressure) so expect that torque to follow The Third Law… The force has to transfer so keep a firm grip and wear your impact gloves

This is a revised review after having it for a few more years. I never realized the air intake port was instructed with a piece of cardboard material. Not sure where it came from but now it has tonnes of power. The directional control sorted out after more use. Great tool. Sorry to IR for the negative feedback. ( Old review.. Needs lots of oil to work well. Head is flawless. The directional change mechanism isn’t that smooth.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersSerious power! The handle has a great feel to it and the push button allows you to have a tight grip on the tool no matter how fast your running it. Button feels great, nice and firm and has great adjustability. It does not jerk your hand around when a fastener gets tight like cheap air ratchets will. When full tourney is met it just stops. It’s one of the biggest air ratchets out there but most of the time I’d rather have power and a good feel. IR makes great smaller ratchets for places harder to reach.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThis ratchet is the BEST!! I really like the simple twist forward/reverse collar!! That is one of the features that make this tool so unique! Plenty of working torque. In tight spaces the button trigger design is far superior and easier to operate than the lever type. One thing I find I dislike about this particular air ratchet is that for a ratchet with a composite body is that is quite heavy. But I still give it 5 stars because of the quality craftsmaship and strength it has. Great styling, ergonomics and good power help get the job done. Good Buy!

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersThis is my second one of this exact model. After serious abuse of the last one for four years at a dealership the crankshaft broke. Ordered repair parts but going to use it at home and got a new one for work. Before I got the last IR I had garbage snap-on Air ratchets which without fail would have issues month after month. Final straw was the head breaking and it’s $99 just for the part. Got this IR and it lasted me 5 years without single issue and then I was able to get a head repair kit and a crankshaft for $62.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersLightweight and compact, with excellent torque!! I think Ingersoll Rand makes some of the best air tools in the world. This 1/4 inch ratchet fits well in small areas and has excellent torque. High RPM motor speeds help twist bolts and fasteners in place quickly but be careful because the torque this little ratchet has can strip threads fast.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersDid not receive the gun pictured, but thankfully the one I got is even better. It’s a nice little canister grease gun just like you see in other reviewers pictures, the top part looks just like the one in the product picture but instead of screwing the grease tube to the gun you pour the grease into the canister and screw it back together. Feels like quality and stamped made in USA on bottom of canister, can see it lasting me years.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersVery light, slim, smooth and strong. Exceptionally quiet compared to my last cheap air ratched. The only thing holding it back from 5 stars is an annoying trigger jump I notice. As you slowly sqeeze the trigger, it seems like a small pocket of air rushes thru, turning the head one full blast blip, before you squeeze hard enough to start any slow head movement. In day to day work where you grab and go I hardly notice it, but when i’m trying to veeery slowly spin the head, that blip becomes annoying. Possible bad design, or I may just have a defective one. But the pros outway the cons, and i’m loving i

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have a 1/2″ ingersoll impact that I use every day, sometimes for hours on end without letting up. I know this grease is intended for die grinders. Since die grinders rotate at such high rates, they need this type of grease to maximize tool life. The amount of abuse my impact sees, I couldn’t imagine using any other type of grease. My only complaint is the threads on the grease tube itself. It seemed to be a different thread count than the gun and all it wanted to do was cross thread. Other than that, it’s a great product!

  74. Anonymous says:

This air ratchet is an absolute beast, it competes with my 3/8impact for power. Be careful that you don’t snap any little bolts when tightening them, and watch where your hand is when it kicks your knuckles into the pointy piece of sheet metal. It is on the larger side, so it won’t fit into smaller areas but I haven’t run into any problems.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersOMG what can I say but thank your IR, this is the toughest, easiest to use air ratchet I could have asked for. It beat rusted bolts off my car and allowed me to complete a front bearing repair that would have cost me hundreds in labor. I couldn’t get the job done with un-powered hand tools they just started stripping the bolt heads. A few forward and reverse motions and zip! the bolts came right out like magic. Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThis is the best air ratchet ever!!! After going through several cheaper air ratchets, I finally decided to buy this IR. First of all, it is so strong, that I rarely need to loosen bolts by hand–as I always did before. Moreover, this wrench seems like it will last forever. Stall it (which is hard to do)? No problem. It just keeps working where lesser wrenches disintegrate.

My two (unwarranted) concerns were: weight and noise. This wrench is heavy, and it does make noise. However, it is so fast, that neither are an issue for me. It seems unbalanced until you connect the air hose-then it is fine.

You have waited to long to buy this 🙂

At 2/3 the cost of our local distributor and direct to my mail box how could I go wrong? Shipped promptly. This tool replaces a worn out craftsman. It is heavier than the last one, but hopefully will be around for years to come. Noise level is high but ear defenders are optional rather than mandatory. Trigger action is smooth and easy to use. Torque is more than adequate for a 3/8 drive. Well designed and quickly sped up the repair process on our last break down.

Great ease of use also and does what it’s supposed to, metering the correct dose of grease into the tiny check-ball fitting in the head if my IR angle grinder. Expecting many trouble-free years of service ahead as a direct result of regular and correct lubrication.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersPowerful and compact.. Will snap off or strip out small fasteners it you don’t feather the throttle.. This small ratchet is not unlike other pneumatic tools that require maintenance.. For those who have stated the head loosens, this is actually common with most IR ratchets when they are put under a heavy strain.. Armstrong tools adjustable pin spanner wrench 34-354 is what you need to tighten the collar and stop the head from rotating.. Remember, scheduled maintenance requires the ratchet head and the planitary gear drive, under the collar, to be greased for long life.. After years of daily use the only fault has been the snap that holds in the head can release. I just reassemble the head, replace the snap ring and keep going. I gave it to my apprentice to use since I bought the same new for myself.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI bought this to remove old oak treads from the steps of my fire tower. An air wrench was difficult to use due to off-axis access. This ratchet fits with just a socket-no extension or universal joint. It does not seem to require an unusual amount of air. A portable compressor works fine. It turns much slower than my pneumatic wrench and is fairly quiet. It is strong enough to remove the heavily-rusted carriage bolts. Only negative is the “made in China.” It gets extra points for increased torque–don’t think the 50 ft-lb ratchets would be strong enough to remove the rusty nuts.

  84. Anonymous says:

After reading other reviews, I feel like I should reiterate that this is an “air ratchet”. Meaning that it is not designed to apply large amounts of torque, but rather to speed up the tightening/loosening of nuts and bolts, that’s it. Think of it as an automatic ratchet, where you don’t have to move your hand/arm back and forth to perform the task. It is built solidly, activates easily (make sure you have a good grip on the tool before depressing the trigger-lever!), and helps shave off time from my weekend automotive maintenance projects. It is larger than a standard ratchet however, so you will not be able to use it in place of a regular ratchet, just in those instances where you have the room for it, especially on long bolts or nuts on long threaded studs where you can’t make full rotations with a standard ratchet. The only downside is the same thing as with all air tools (except those that specifically are designed to be quiet, perhaps) and that is that it is loud. It may be a good thing that you can’t use it on every nut and bolt. Great tool for the chest and glad I got it.

It was by far my favorite air tool I have ever owned. When I snapped the anvil on it I had to get a replacement due to the the 103 no longer being available. The 105-D2 seems to be the updated version. I’ve had this for a few months now and I’m confident it will hold up to the years of work ahead of it. This thing is great for the confined spaces of most engine bays. For larger bolts & nuts, break them free with hand tools then use this little guy to spin them on or aff fast. Whether you are a professional or just a DIY’er this will be a benefit to any tool collection!

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our Userseverything about the tool is correct accept for the image. it has a much smoother design to the handle which fits in the hand well. it does still have the push button trigger also
ive been using it for a couple weeks at work now and love it. good power that won’t twist you hand into sheet metal or strip and break threads.
plenty fast enough and just the right amount of torque

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is typical good IR quality. I have only had it a few weeks and have not used it that much yet but out of the box it worked great and I definately like the button instead of how some of the other ones have a large handle. You can easily control the torque.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI got this little air ratchet for work, I am an Aircraft mechanic by trade. Its exactly what i needed. Light, fast, with some power on the side. one of my favorite features is the speed regulator. I thought for sure i would hardly ever touch it when i was first buying it. But now that i have it i use it all the time. Altho i rarely turn it up to full blast as it just seems much to fast. but the higher speeds are good for doing lots and lots of fasteners in a row. while the lower settings are good for doing one or two big fasteners. I originally bought it after my cheep craftsman died on me. but I really enjoy it as its small enough to get into small and tight spaces and powerful enough where you wont regret it. Definitely need to start teaching myself to start grabbing this little guy more when there are lots of hex head fasteners to remove.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThis wrench has the torque power to break and tighten bolts. Cheap wrenches don’t have the torque to break a bolt loose without using a wrench to start or finish the job. High quality construction. Easy to control the speed with the button, and you can control the exhaust direction. You won’t be dissapointed with this tool.

Super quiet, pretty strong, pretty fast. not the strongest or fastest ratchet around, but quiet enough to enjoy the radio in the background. a fantastic value for the money. lock nut came loose just as another reviewer warned in would ,but fabricated a wrench to tighten it without hurting the tool so all is well.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersThis thing is great! Im just a DIY mechanic, but sometimes it feels like im running a shop with all of my friends cars coming in and out of my garage. This air ratchet is one of the best tool purchases I’ve made in a long time.

Plenty of power- breaks loose pretty much anything you will come across on a regular basis– if this wont do it, you better just grab the breaker bar, or the impact gun…
Low air consumption- i have a 3 gallon, portable, 200psi, 5 cfm, contractor style air compressor, and it keeps up with this thing just fine, even with continuous use.
direction selector- im pretty picky about my regular ratchets, specifically the direction selector, and i couldnt be happier with this one, you can visually tell which direction it is set to. also, it is pretty much impossible to switch it accidentally.
no safety stop- as odd as it may sound, not having any kind of safety stop on the trigger is nice, makes it easier to operate this tool.

i also own the matching 1/4″ drive version, and could write the same review for it, only adding that the head is smaller and therefore fits in tighter spaces.

Small(ish) head- fits in tight places, granted it not as small as a regular mechanical ratchet, but its great for those places where you can only get a click or 2 on the ratchet.

I have an older Chicago 1/4 drive air ratchet that had lost some power over the years.
I purchased this IR air ratchet as a replacement and have not been disappointed.

I work in auto repair and it fits in those tight places where a 3/8 ratchet will not, yet it has the power of a 3/8 ratchet.

It is kind of pricey, but you get a 1/4 drive ratchet with a lot of power. Be careful or you will be snapping heads off small bolts unless you loosen them slightly before turning on the raw power of this little beast.

I hightly recommend it for those who need power in a small air ratchet.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our Usersby far the strongest 14″ air ratchet I’ve owned, i use it professionally, everyday. It takes everything i throw at it for 14″ uses.
I’ve been using it for a few months now.
I’ve got 5 old ones in my tool box.
I have the built in regulator turned all the way down for most everything i use it for, or it would shear off bolts its that strong. I’ll turn it up for the stubborn ones.

there’s only 1 minor issue i had with it, but i fixed it, there’s 2 crimp dimples on the body of the ratchet to keep the head on and to keep the head from twisting, but i guess it wasn’t crimped enough, so the head was twisting, all i did was use my air hammer with a pointed chisel to crimp the dimple more, now its perfect. not enough to subtract a star.

**update** 4/5/12- it broke, or i broke it, either way the ratchet head kept twisting, and since they said i broke it, it wasnt warranteed

WOW !!!! Another very sweet tool from Ingersoll, This bad boy is a beast in a little package. I have to watch this one close, everybody wants to hold this tool including me.
Makes short work of most jobs I had been using my 3/8″ air ratchet for.
Very happy I waited to buy this as my first 1/4″ ratchet. I had always thought why buy a 1/4″ ? Now this ones the only one I use.
    Buy this with confidence.

Golden Review Award: 45 From Our Usersas a mechanic, im always trying to gain some efficiency at work, and not spend an arm and a leg. I have used bluepoint and snap on 3/8 ratchets, both well over priced. This one works just as well and over a hundred dollars cheaper. I havent got a single complaint about this thing. i have used it several times and always performed well. I would definetly recommend it.

Golden Review Award: 23 From Our UsersI have used air ratchets for 40 years and have busted my knuckles enough and caught my hand with the lever trigger models. This is the only push button model I have used and have bought 3- 2 for my mechanic friends who said they would never use a air ratchet again. They love this one and use it ever day. To adjust the torque, just lightly touch the button or push tight and hold on to tighten or remove a bolt.
