Great tool! Did not realize how awesome this company was until my mechanic buddy saw it and started saying it was the only brand he will buy his air ratchets from! It’s been an absolute beast and rips off any nut or bolt like butter!
I’ve been using this stuff for over 30 years, a must have for running air tools. Good price for name brand. Oil for all, greese for geared (angled) tools.
I’ve used this daily at my job for the past few weeks. I absolutely love this air ratchet. It’s strength surprised me in a good way. Strong enough I’ll use a 1/4 to 3/8 adapter for bigger sockets so I can remove bigger bolts. We will see how it holds up in the long run but so far I am impressed. Remember to lubricate you air tools.
It’s something that will last you a very long time as long as it’s oiled everyday.
Bought this as a replacement for my 25 year old IR 1/4″ air ratchet. The new model is quieter and more powerful than my older model was when it was new.
Must have for air powered tools such as die grinders
Full time dealership tech, great replacement for worn out Mac AR777. Great feel, awesome powe
Graisse bien mon gun impact et l’huile lubrifie bien, facile utiliser.
Bought for Dotco hand tools. Worked perfectly, way better than the cheap plastic crap that comes with the tools.
My husband had one of these for years, an finally stopped, he wanted another on say to him they are the best on the market, price wise and for durability, being a mechanic he uses it alot.
strong ratchet. only dislike is the trigger. speed of the ratchet can be varied by the trigger, but not as precisely as my other snap-on ratchet. also trigger seems to put my hand in a location that get is the way often. maybe it sticks out too far, or the overall size of the handle is too big. otherwise it is a strong ratchet at a great price when compared to snap-on models. and this brand is a good name.
It is decent air ratchet…. not as powerful that I would like it to be but it is ok .
Great product, love it, and use it all the time, no disappointme
Le produit correspond la description et la livraison dans les 24 hres. Wow
Great Ingersol product as expected. It’s loud, yes, but it’s got the torque to make up for the noise.
Used it once and it works the way it should.
Although a bit larger than a traditional air ratchet it allows for a lot of leverage and has much more power. I mainly use it for hood adjustment on buses as it requires a ridiculous number of extensions to get to with the hood closed. This tools added power allows me to do that and not worry about applying leverage by hand to work quickly.
Good quality for my home shop. Gets in tight spots.
light and comfortable to hold, feels very sturdy and well made. I have an ingersoll rand compressor that works excellent. If this product is just as soundly made you can change the rating to a 5 star after a year in my hands. It will get a workout.
Bought this for my husband. He had a snap on one and paid a fortune for it. He has been using this and says it works just as well and no high price.
This is an outstanding battery powered ratchet. I work in heavy industry and many of my co-workers have Snap-On, MAC, Milwaukee and other assorted cordless ratchets. This Ingersoll Rand ratchet by far out performs them. It had almost 10 ft/lbs more torque than the closest competitor. And many more ft/pounds more torque than the average. It also has a much better battery placement allowing a much more flatter profile and fitting into the typical places where such a ratchet is used. I would strongly recommend over any other big name cordless ratchet.
UPDATE:
Going on a couple of years now and the ratchet and battery are still going strong. To be clear though, the one battery version I received had a 1.5 Ah battery. The 2.5 Ah battery is much larger (almost twice the size) and I think it would preclude the reason for getting the ratchet as it would interfere with the slimline fit of the ratchet as a whole.
The air discharge location is kinda annoying you can adjust it’s direction but sometimes it’s still an issue especially when trying to work quickly you have to make a split second choice of getting blown in the face with air or turning it away form you and getting the recoil effect of dust and rust blown in your face depending on what your working on or forget altogether and it will be a surprise. I’m use to air ratchets discharging out the bottom of the handle but that’s jest me I guess.
Use in all my air tools. Most are ingersoll rand and this kit will last a while. Havent had any problems.
Large, but strong. I’ve owned over 7 air ratchets, in past 30 years. All different brands, this particular model is impressive . The head is thicker , to prevent spreadage.
To be continued…
Small, easy to get into close quarters and fast. Great addition to toolbox for do it your selfer and a reasonable price point.
Ive used both snapon push button style and this and this one is much better. Cant go wrong for the price.
I bought this for my adult son and he loves it! Works great!
availle trs bien, qualit du mcanisme surpasse tout les autre modle que j’ai dj utiliser depuis prs de 30 ans
That is a very convenient tool, saves a lot of time…. Nice, thanks
Even this big monster has gotten stuck, low end torque is good, trigger control is adaptable. Noise is low compared to the volum
This Air ratchet is everything our department needed for for our system connections, adjustable air pressure so as not to over to torque and break studs on equipment great tool
Good quality, good price, great for tight spaces. Holds up well in industrial environment, as a tradesman I’m quite pleased with this tool.
Did alot of jobs with this. I am happy I bought it.
Light weight, fits in confined spaces. Ingersoll Rand builds the best air tools in my opinion. Not as strong as snapon but less then half the price and usually very close to the same torque output. No complaints.
These used in a very busy repair shop and hold up very well. Will continue to use them.
I have had a couple of the big “Snap On ratchets” FAR-72 etc… Those as others have stated were absolute Junk.
But comparing it to a “Snap On” this has a much more comfortable grip and nicer feel overall. The reverse know on the head works very smoothly. AND THIS THING IS SIGNIFICANTLY MORE QUIET… I compared the noise level to a lighter duty unit from Lowes (Husky I think) and this was no louder maybe even a bit quieter to my ear. as for power not quite as much grunt as the Snap On but still pretty good for the Money.
If I had to decide today I would definitely buy this again.
That being said
There’s a few things you need to know
watch where you keep your hands when it’s triggered and tightened it’s a wrist snatcher as advised I think it’s averaged 68-78 ftlbs for me (air pressure) so expect that torque to follow The Third Law… The force has to transfer so keep a firm grip and wear your impact gloves
Works like an Ingersol Rand should ad really quiet no loud high pitch sound and at great price.
Really good product. Fast delivery even with coming from the US. Very good price too
I’ve been a professional for 30yrs and love this ratchet so far. It’s very strong and I’m hoping at my age it’s the last one I’ll have to buy. Great product for the price.
I haven’t had this ratchet long but I love it so far. It is strong and quiet. I’ve been a professional for 30yrs and got exactly what I expected for the price from Ingersoll.
I love this air ratchet. Great power, easy to use and handle. I work with confidence with this tool
Excellent ratchet, haven,t used much because my old IR ratchet is still going strong after about 10 yrs of professional use. I am sure I will be using it soon though. Again, good price and shipped promptly.
If you own impacts or any air tool you spent good money on this is the product to use to keep them working like new. Quick shipping and the grease lasts foreve
Perfect, works very well on my air tools.
Like the way grease tube screws onto the grease gun.
This is a revised review after having it for a few more years. I never realized the air intake port was instructed with a piece of cardboard material. Not sure where it came from but now it has tonnes of power. The directional control sorted out after more use. Great tool. Sorry to IR for the negative feedback. ( Old review.. Needs lots of oil to work well. Head is flawless. The directional change mechanism isn’t that smooth.
Great quality tool as with most Ingersoll tools. Been using it daily in a dealership shop for months with zero problems. A great alternative to spending hundreds more off the tool truck.
I purchased this for my son, at his request, who does auto restoration and has more tools than I could ever count. It looked to me like a simple plastic/rubber handle – no big deal. But, my son loves it. Apparently this is the bees knees to a tool lover. Go figure – men are so easily pleased.
Yes this is amazing. I recommend this tool to anyone who doesn’t care for name brand such as snap-on…
I use it on a daily basis. And it gets the job done everyday.
its grease and works smooth so far on my air wrench
I bought this air ratchet a couple days ago , I’m really happy with it. works real good and feels sturdy. I’m not surprised tho , Ingersoll-rand tools always work like they should. I also bought an ingersoll-rand die grinder , I haven’t used it yet bought I’m sure it will do its job too. I recommend this ratchet if you need something dependable.
Ratchet cam in 3 days to my door and was perfect as stated
Very good tool. It has all the power that I need and is not to heavy. The only thing that I’m not liking about the ingersoll products is there identification tags come off way to easy and the forward/ reverse switch is not smooth at all. It seems to hang up sometimes. All in all its a good product though.
still working great. had to replace one O-ring for the handle because it was leaking. also the head started turning so had to keep tightening it keep it from spinning.
Works great I use it to take the flywheel bolts off the generator were very rugged and dependable I highly recommend it and the price was grea
I had to return this product because I needed a smaller size but I have other Ingersoll Rand air tools. They are all great tools!
Great tool. Used it for over 2 weeks now . lots of power and cool features. Adjustable exhaust discharge port is awesome. Next day shipping was unbelievable.
This air ratchet is an absolute beast, it competes with my 3/8impact for power. Be careful that you don’t snap any little bolts when tightening them, and watch where your hand is when it kicks your knuckles into the pointy piece of sheet metal. It is on the larger side, so it won’t fit into smaller areas but I haven’t run into any problems.
This is the highest torque air ratchet for the price I could find on amazon. The great thing is that it’s an Ingersoll-Rand product, you can’t go wrong.
$ 15.00 in early 2015. I like it.
My two (unwarranted) concerns were: weight and noise. This wrench is heavy, and it does make noise. However, it is so fast, that neither are an issue for me. It seems unbalanced until you connect the air hose-then it is fine.
You have waited to long to buy this 🙂
At 2/3 the cost of our local distributor and direct to my mail box how could I go wrong? Shipped promptly. This tool replaces a worn out craftsman. It is heavier than the last one, but hopefully will be around for years to come. Noise level is high but ear defenders are optional rather than mandatory. Trigger action is smooth and easy to use. Torque is more than adequate for a 3/8 drive. Well designed and quickly sped up the repair process on our last break down.
After reading other reviews, I feel like I should reiterate that this is an “air ratchet”. Meaning that it is not designed to apply large amounts of torque, but rather to speed up the tightening/loosening of nuts and bolts, that’s it. Think of it as an automatic ratchet, where you don’t have to move your hand/arm back and forth to perform the task. It is built solidly, activates easily (make sure you have a good grip on the tool before depressing the trigger-lever!), and helps shave off time from my weekend automotive maintenance projects. It is larger than a standard ratchet however, so you will not be able to use it in place of a regular ratchet, just in those instances where you have the room for it, especially on long bolts or nuts on long threaded studs where you can’t make full rotations with a standard ratchet. The only downside is the same thing as with all air tools (except those that specifically are designed to be quiet, perhaps) and that is that it is loud. It may be a good thing that you can’t use it on every nut and bolt. Great tool for the chest and glad I got it.
My husband is an auto tech so he uses his air ratchet quite a bit. After the last one bit the dust I suggested he look on Amazon for a new one. This is the one he picked out. As a Prime member it was delivered to me 2 days after I ordered it. My husband has had nothing negative to say about this purchase, and if he’s happy, I’m happy!
This works just fine and i am very happy that it makes less noise than the one it replaced. I am disapointed with the packaging that states that i would get a cooler with the ratchet.
ive been using it for a couple weeks at work now and love it. good power that won’t twist you hand into sheet metal or strip and break threads.
plenty fast enough and just the right amount of torque
Super fast delivery with Amazon Prime.
Super quiet, pretty strong, pretty fast. not the strongest or fastest ratchet around, but quiet enough to enjoy the radio in the background. a fantastic value for the money. lock nut came loose just as another reviewer warned in would ,but fabricated a wrench to tighten it without hurting the tool so all is well.
everybody in the shop has checked it out they love it also . its almost silent works great for tear-down use .
bought to replace mac 1/4″ drive ratchet that was 10yrs old used every day
Plenty of power- breaks loose pretty much anything you will come across on a regular basis– if this wont do it, you better just grab the breaker bar, or the impact gun…
Low air consumption- i have a 3 gallon, portable, 200psi, 5 cfm, contractor style air compressor, and it keeps up with this thing just fine, even with continuous use.
direction selector- im pretty picky about my regular ratchets, specifically the direction selector, and i couldnt be happier with this one, you can visually tell which direction it is set to. also, it is pretty much impossible to switch it accidentally.
no safety stop- as odd as it may sound, not having any kind of safety stop on the trigger is nice, makes it easier to operate this tool.
i also own the matching 1/4″ drive version, and could write the same review for it, only adding that the head is smaller and therefore fits in tighter spaces.
Small(ish) head- fits in tight places, granted it not as small as a regular mechanical ratchet, but its great for those places where you can only get a click or 2 on the ratchet.
Plenty of power- this thing will break loose anything that you would typically put a 1/4″ drive on

I have an older Chicago 1/4 drive air ratchet that had lost some power over the years.
I purchased this IR air ratchet as a replacement and have not been disappointed.
I work in auto repair and it fits in those tight places where a 3/8 ratchet will not, yet it has the power of a 3/8 ratchet.
It is kind of pricey, but you get a 1/4 drive ratchet with a lot of power. Be careful or you will be snapping heads off small bolts unless you loosen them slightly before turning on the raw power of this little beast.
I hightly recommend it for those who need power in a small air ratchet.
I’ve been using it for a few months now.
I’ve got 5 old ones in my tool box.
I have the built in regulator turned all the way down for most everything i use it for, or it would shear off bolts its that strong. I’ll turn it up for the stubborn ones.
there’s only 1 minor issue i had with it, but i fixed it, there’s 2 crimp dimples on the body of the ratchet to keep the head on and to keep the head from twisting, but i guess it wasn’t crimped enough, so the head was twisting, all i did was use my air hammer with a pointed chisel to crimp the dimple more, now its perfect. not enough to subtract a star.
**update** 4/5/12- it broke, or i broke it, either way the ratchet head kept twisting, and since they said i broke it, it wasnt warranteed
WOW !!!! Another very sweet tool from Ingersoll, This bad boy is a beast in a little package. I have to watch this one close, everybody wants to hold this tool including me.
Makes short work of most jobs I had been using my 3/8″ air ratchet for.
Very happy I waited to buy this as my first 1/4″ ratchet. I had always thought why buy a 1/4″ ? Now this ones the only one I use.
Buy this with confidence.
