I have the Xgimi Elfin, as a first stab at home theatre and I love it, but it was time to see what could really be done with an upgrade to 4K and a much brighter projector. I have not been disappointed, easy setup, software is even better (and it was extremely good on the Elfin. If you have android, setup is very easy and pretty much automatic if you scan an on screen QR and accept a few prompts.
Picture Quality is fantastic HD, 4K etc.. is good, it must upscale the HD very well because it looks even better than on the native HD Elfin. The Elfin was quiet but the Horizon Pro is near silent. I had considered the nebula cosmos, but am so pleased I went for this. The other reason was the 1.21 throw, which means I could get a nice large image (100″) in the same place I had the Elfin. The Nebula cosmos would have only produced am 88″ image with it’s longer throw.
I haven’t tried the sound because I actually use a soundbar on the floor so the sound is coming from the same place as the image…
Some tips…get the Xgimi dongle, in the deal I had it was included free….powered from the Xgimis USB port and set up so the dongle can be controlled via the HDMI allows you to control the dongle from the main Xgimi remote! The dongle has or can have installed Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney etc.. etc.. on it. By connecting it in the way described, the projector will boot, then the dongle boots and it ato flips to the dongle…After that the experience is seamless. (and the dongle remote can be stored in a draw).
If you don’t want to shell out for the dongle, then you will have to run the web version of netflix using “Desktop Manager” to install it.
The advantage of the dongle I also believe is better motion, as the you’re offloading that processing from the projector and can use weak motion smoothing on the projector settings, rather than medium for better quality.
If you are controlling the dongle with the remote, pressing the gear symbol on the remote will take you to the projector settings, not dongle settings…then you simply change source back to the dongle.
AN IMPORTANT TIP: if you have smart plugs and other devices that use the 2.4 GHz band and your router is serving both 2.4 and 5GHz…give each band different passwords! This will prevent the projector and/or dongle from using the must slower 2.4, if the signal is not very strong. My router is on the ground floor and I am in the opposite end of the house on the 2nd floor (signal says fair). By doing this, I’m guaranteed to get over 111mbps, with no fall back to the much slower 2.4 GHz.
It’s LED and DLP, very colour accurate and I like DLP because of the extremely good 3D capability, plus the fully enclosed light path, so not dust concerned. Just keep the grills vacuumed once per month, especially if you have a cat. This keeps it running nice n cool.
This is not a paid or shill review, get it, you will absolutely not be disappointed. Amazing projector.
So I bought this projector in August 2022. I use it with my PS5. If you play a lot of online FPS – find a different projector with less response time. For Fifa, GOW, Last of Us – it is all fine.
Also watching 4K blurays on the PS5 in game mode can be quite dark because of the HDR. You might need a screen with +GAIN.
You can also turn game mode off for 4K blurays (and use custom set up) though there is a noticeable slight lag/response time with that though.
Another cool thing about this projector is you can plug in a hard drive and it will play pretty much any video files you have on that hard drive. Pretty much all the normal codecs play fine on this.
Crystal clear 4k quality even when projected on a plain white wall without a screen!!
Very easy to setup and I have to say very surprised with the sound quality. I was planning on purchasing a separate soundbar but having listened to the quality of the Harman Kardon speakers I have changed my mind.
So far extremely pleased with the purchase.
Amazing image and sound. The automatic focus. Works well but the automatic screen alignment isn’t great. I found I had to adjust it manually for best results.
Overall a great projector. I bought it ,to replace my 1080 p xgimi projector. Glad I did because the 4k is stunning. I would recommend xgimi projectors to anyone that wants to experience the big screen home theatre.
I am surprised to know after buying this projector that it doesn’t support Netflix, which is a little bit stupid when even cheaper devices have Netflix by default installed. So, I still have to connect my apple tv with hdmi only for Netflix, which is a bit annoying.
Had projectors for 20yrs this is a leap forward even from my old 4k projecto
So, for years I’ve been trying to replicate the Cinema experience at home, nothing has come close. Big TV’s, OLED’s, the projectors I’ve tried have always been flawed, either requiring perfect placement, big rooms and focusing has always been a compromise. Not with the XGIMI Horizon Pro 4K! At last a projector that out of the box takes 5 mins to set up, auto detects and keystones to your wall or screen and always ensures your image is pin sharp.
Feed this beast 4K and the picture sings – it’s amazing even at 120″. Super bright and watchable in daylight. In a dark room it dazzles. Its small and portable and the sound is the best I’ve heard from built in speakers in a projector. If you’ve been looking to try a projector this is one to get – hands down – you won’t be disappointed.
Everything you need for a movie night – the picture quality is fantastic! you are able to get a massive 4k screen going with incredible quality! As others have said, netflix isn’t natively supported, but it is able to play netflix easy enough, just follow the instructions included. Alternatively use a fire tv device. The speakers on this thing are great as well, unexpectedly so, I was planning on setting it up with some but i have yet to bother since the quality of the built in speakers is pretty good! if you are after a fantastic home cinema experience (and portable enough to take elsewhere – though no built in battery) then i’d highly recommend getting yourself one of these projectors, they are fantastic!
If you expect this to be a TV replacement, lower your expectations.
Yes, it turns on quickly, you can add a fire stick and watch your Netflix/etc, it has a large screen even on small distances. But it won’t be able to compete with a TV in the morning.
The brightness is rated as 2000 lumens. Which is bright enough to be able to watch during the day, but not nearly enough to enjoy it.
Embedded Netflix App doesn’t work. Which is apparently Netflix fault? Very strange. Maybe has something to do with DRM, but how come I can watch it in the browser no problem?
Even in the dark room, there’s an opposite problem. The lamp is so bright that there’s a light leaking. So the black is actually grey. You would probably need a black or gray projector screen to enjoy higher contrast.
I expected more from a 1000 pounds device. It looks like the technology is still not there for it to be a full-time TV replacement. But still a great device for occasional movie nights.
I was genuinely surprised about this projector and its features packed in for this price. The most standing out features are its brightness ( Ansilumens), sound quality, wide compatibility. and auto key stone correction feature. I purchased a cheap, ‘ budget projector in the range of 200 – 300 pounds couple of weeks ago and immediately returned it on the same day and after doing some more research went with this gem!!
Although pricier than the so called ‘ budget range’ of projectors, the features of this are no match and I think compared to more expensive top of the range products, this one is a good compensation.
The brightness is enough to view even in a well lit room, although the colours will look little flushed it is still acceptable. With a dimly lit, you truly begin to appreciate the quality of this. The sounds, I mean what else to say when the speakers are Harmon Kardon !! I connected to some of my bluetooth speakers to check the quality and even though my home speakers were more powerful, the quality from its native speakers are far better.
It has wide range of compatibility. The IOS mirror cast works without any lag / latency. I connected to my Mac air with an HDMI cable with no issue. Bluetooth connection to output devices had no issue. Actually you do not want any of these as this works as an android TV by its own with the ability to install many android apps. I knew most projectors would not support Netflix and that was my expectation when I brought this but I was very surprised to see that they have given a solution to this via an android app when installed in this projector and it worked flawlessly.
The most stand out feature is the autokey stone correction which actually works!! ( I am comparing to a cheap projector that I bought recently which claimed to have this but didn’t) No more time wasting to correct the screen size/ shape depend on the angle of projection. It even detects objects in front and adjust the size of the screen accordingly.
I am very satisfied with this. The only reason I am giving 4 stars for this product is that it is still my first few weeks with this and I will be updating the rating later. So far I have been very impressed about this product.
Amazing product with excellent quality. Seller was very prompt and professional on communications.
This projector is my first after doing quite a lot of research. The auto set up is incredibly easy to use – simply turn on the machine, it auto focus’s and then a remote control button is used for the auto keystoning feature. Once this is done you can easily use the feature to adjust the screen size perfectly to youe wall/screen size.
Shame that iPlayer and Netflix won’t work with the machine – I prefer to use the superb Apple TV 4k anyway and the Apple remote will turn on/off the projector and Apple box together anyway so its no hassle. Using the Apple TV box means you can also cast from your iphone etc allowing you to watch your own photos and videos.
All in all a great purchase.
If you’re unsure about buying the xgimi horizon pro 4k, don’t be, it’s incredible.
The projector was delivered quickly and the picture is very bright and quick to navigate around the operating system.
I was going to purchase the Halo+ but then thought how portable do I really need it as just using it in the garden mainly! I’m glad I purchased the Horizon instead. it’s bright enough to use in the garden before the sun has fully set and still compact enough to make it portable, just running it to mains power.
I am only projecting the picture against a wall at the moment but it’s still very good. I’m doing my research into the best outdoor screen.
The picture shown is just against a wall during the day indoors, but you can see how bright It is.
The auto keystone, focus is really good and makes it more portable as it configures itself and therefore handy when you move it around all the time.
The only negative part is around the app support for Netflix, iPlayer and Rakuten. You can get Netflix to work and iPlayer but not Rakuten. Might end up getting a streaming stick to sort that out though. Still doesn’t distract from a awesome projector at a reasonable price.
Overall, we are very happy and because it’s so bright and configures the picture automatically it makes movie night in the garden so simple.
After having looked at many projectors – both traditional manufacturers like Epson and modern manufacturers like Anker, I picked XGMI Pro. And it has been an excellent decision. Used for about 6 months now.
With traditional projector manufacturers, for a 4K projector at this price point you will unlikely to get both manual horizontal and vertical adjustment, let alone automatic clever horizontal and vertical adjustment that comes with XGMI. You are also unlikely to get digital image size adjustment without any perceivable loss of picture quality. Both very important if you want to fit your new projector in existing decoration rather and re-decorating the room around the projector.
Also if you don’t want to struggle adjusting the projector every time the kids moves the projector around a little bit, this is a great one as the projector auto focuses automatically every-time the projector starts. So the picture sharpness is fantastic all the time.
Also with many other traditional projector manufacturers at this price point, you are unlikely to get 4K or excellent picture quality with lots of useful adjustments (like digital brightness adjustment) like the XGMI.
Again at this price point you are unlikely to get this level of brightness, which is very important if you don’t want washed out pictures when you are watching in the evening with some ambient light.
Excellent built in sound quality. No need for an external speaker, if the projector is near where you are seated.
Better than the Anker one due to much higher brightness, absolutely essential if you want to watch with some ambient light (like in the evenings). With Anker the picture would get washed out at the slightest ambient light.
Assembled it with an Anker stand though which allows the wires to travel through the stand giving it a neat look. The wire is just long enough/just short. So a tight fit with anker stand.
Overall a great projector, with lots of very useful and essential features, great brightness at a very good price point.
Einstellung Idiotensicher. Bin begeiste
I wanted to give this a bit of time before reviewing it so as not to miss out on anything. The TL;DR version is that this is a phenomenal little projector, being a great upgrade from my previously owned 1080p Xgimi MoGo Pro.
Pros:
* Great picture – although it’s not “true” 4k, it’s more than good enough to fool the naked eye and the picture is bright, crisp and well-detailed. It also has surprisingly good black level for a projector as long as you’ve eliminated the ambient light in the room, but even in a lit room you can get a watchable picture if you need to (although why you would use a projector in a bright room is beyond me!). HDR output is really nice by projector standards too – it’s not going to beat an OLED, but for a projector this is on par with anything else I’ve ever seen before you get to the 5k sort of range.
* In-built sound is punchy and loud enough to not need additional speakers if you don’t plan to have it fixed in one place. I move it between two rooms, so I’m happy to use the in-built speakers and they do the job beautifully. It does have ARC support, though, so if you want to set up an actual ‘cinema room’ with this as the projector, it would connect up to your soundbar no bother. The rooms I use it in are too small to need that, though!
* The automatic keystoning is a great feature. As mentioned above – I use this in two rooms. In my home office (ie: mancave) where I have a screen hanging on one wall, and in my bedroom where it’s just projected onto a bit of white wall between the cupboard and door. The auto-keystone feature means I don’t have to spend ages adjusting the picture every time I move it (this was always a pain on the MoGo Pro) and although it’s not always perfect, usually only just needs a couple of small tweaks at most to be finalised. I’m able to watch happily in my bedroom despite the projector having to beam at an almost 40 degree angle (more on that below in cons though).
* It handles gaming surprisingly well. I’m not a twitchy FPS player, but in game mode I was able to play Forza Horizon from my PC over HDMI with no problems and I didn’t feel any real latency or lag. Same with more reaction-based stuff like Hades. It might not be what a pro gamer type would need (60Hz, for one thing, which is low for competitive gaming), but for a casual type like me, it’s a lot of fun gaming on such a big screen.
* Portability is excellent. It’s small, compact-shaped (it’s almost a cube, so doesn’t take up too much room in any one direction), quite light and also has a standard issue tripod mount thread on the bottom if you want to attach it to such a thing.
Cons:
* It has 3D support, but it doesn’t work all that well. I got a pair of Xgimi’s 3D glasses free with it as part of a promotion when I bought it, and it took a lot of fiddling to get a crisp 3D picture. That said, there’s not a lot of 3D content out there online anyway, so it might be ok for someone who’s got a proper 3D blu-ray player and knows how best to set this stuff up.
* When the projector isn’t front and centre and matched up with your screen/wall, there is quite a lot of light bleed. This is an unavoidable side-effect of digital keystoning when you’re projecting at an angle, but some sort of peripheral which could shutter this off a bit would have been nice. Unfortunately Xgimi don’t make anything like that. There’s also no lens cap (I don’t think there’s an official peripheral for this either) which feels like a bit of an oversight for such an expensive device.
* The official accessories are very expensive. I looked into getting the tabletop stand (which allows for easy adjustments in angle if you’re not 100% level) but it’s 75, which is a bit ridiculous. Same with the bespoke projector stand – over 100 (frustratingly, I missed out on getting one for free as that promo came along a month after I bought it – would rather have had that than the glasses!). I’ve had to come up with some DIY solutions as a result. It also doesn’t come with a cover, but there are some 3rd party ones on Amazon that do the trick. Just feels like at this price point, including a few extra things like a cover would have been nice.
* The power brick is quite big – it’s like a laptop style one, so if you’re going to ceiling-mount this, you will need to take that into account and it might make your setup look a little messier.
* There’s no native Netflix support – I use a 4K Firestick, so that doesn’t bother me too much, but it’s just something to be aware of. This is more Netflix’s fault (they refuse to make it available for certain companies for some reason) than Xgimi’s, though.
In conclusion, although I’ve listed a few cons there, they are quite nitpicky and I would still quite happily give this projector 5 stars with no hesitation. It’s a wonderful piece of kit and I’m genuinely amazed at just how good it is when I look at some other projectors out there at similar price points).
After quite a bit of research and visits to various shops I bit the bullet and bought the Xgimi. I am blown away with the quality. Even standard definition images look good – which was my biggest worry.
Obviously the image does get a bit washed out when in sunlight but in relative darkness the picture quality is awesome even without a screen.
The most impressive aspect is the ease of use though. Literally plug and play. The auto focus is perfect. I did have to fiddle with the keystone a little bit as I have the projector approximately 8′ above the ground on a shelf. I did have to tilt the projector up at its rear by a couple of inch to compensate for angle but using the keystone correction gives a perfectly sized image.
The speakers are surprisingly good although I will be adding a surround sound system in the future.
The only minor gripe with the system is not having a native Netflix app but there are workarounds for this.
Although it’s not the cheapest system I have not had a single second of “buyers regret” with it. The image quality is excellent, the sound is very good and the overall film watching experience is awesome. Simply brilliant.
75-Zoll LED TV -> ca. 2.400
85-Zoll LED TV -> ca. 4.400
98-Zoll LED TV -> ca. 15.000
100-Zoll LED-Projektor XGIMI -> ca. 1.700
Satisfied with projector disappointments no tv catch-up only 5 up to ye
I bought this projector for my mancave at the bottom of the garden. I was therefore most worried about how bright this would be considering the high light levels of the room in question (only my conservatory lets in more light than my summer house!). I need not have worried. Other than when sun shines directly onto the screen it is perfectly watchable. However, anywhere near dusk, or on a cloudy day, and it is incredible.
The picture quality is superb both on regular HD or 4K/ultra HD. As everyone mentions NETFLIX is not yet authorised but I was contacted by Xgimi UK who sent me out a free 4k TV Stick (similar to Amazon Fire Stick).
Therefore, I can watch Prime, Disney, Youtube and many other apps straight from the projector, or NETFLIX via the provided TV Stick. I use the other HDMI slot to plug in a Sky minibox. Unfortunately Sky only let you show HD from the miniboxes (ultra HD available only from the main Q box). However, the picture is still amazing.
I connect the sound via Bluetooth to a sound system which works well with no lag. Although, as others have mentioned, the inbuilt speakers are very good for their size and I would have no issue with them, if I didnt have my Bluetooth system.
So far, after a few weeks use, I am blown away by this projector.
The image from this projector is superb! bright and sharp even for extremely large projections. The set up is easy and quick. The sound is excellent, probably due to the Harmon Kardon speakers. I went for the HD version rather than the 4K version and I’m pleased with my purchase. Downsides are few, notably the lack of Netflix, but apparently there is a work-around for that if you watch any of the online reviews, which I do recommend you do before purchasing. Overall very happy.
Wasn’t sure whether to wait for a LG 42″ oled or try something a bit different. The LG is currently 1200 and defo not worth paying that amount just at the moment and this came up in a lightning deal at 800 with free 3d glasses. I was tempered last Black Friday when the price was similar but never went for it. This time I did. Takes a few goes to get the right placement in the room for maximum viewing size , (minimum halo effect (light area around the image when using extreme keystone.) First impressions, this projector looks good, sounds good and the picture is fantastic (unsure if the pro is better but some reviews say there isn’t much difference). I already have a LG 65″ CX in my lounge so I’m not buying for the best visual quality, just wanted to try watching a 100″ screen for bedroom/outdoor for World Cup. Is is worth it? Well if I had seen this first before I bought the 65″, I probs would have saved myself a grand and bought this and a proper hanging projector screen.
I had the Horizon Basic version it was very week on picture quality also huge problem is the visible white box around the screen its even worse at night
I returned it went for Horizon Pro o wow is the picture is dam awesome even on home screen of amazon 4k stick it’s more visible brighter on the other projector it looked washed out colour even on the home screen Google TV 10 is absolutely amazing now on to 4K I pId for spiderman latest film in 4k omg is it awesome
Now do I get the problem with Horizon Pro Projector white box yes it’s so crazy I’ve spoken to technical guys well it took eight e mails and pictures they say its to do with the distance and if your using on an angle that’s crazy as in there promotional video that’s there main seing point
Is the 4k projector worth the money yes and no really I will update this review if I get any software updates
