Great price great sound easy to use great app to use on your mobile I would highly recommend this product.
I moved into a house with a rather large living room (22ft x 20ft). The sound from my TV was not adequate for such a large room. Due to the position of my TV there was not enough room for a full size soundbar, which are usually 90cm or larger, so I purchased the Yamaha C20. I was expecting it to be an improvement over my TV’s in-built speakers, but I was not expecting it to be able to fill the whole room with vibrant audio. I was blown away by the quality and depth of sound from such a small sound bar. Considering it has no sub-woofer it is also quite bassy. It seems to amplify voices over background audio more than my TV audio did which makes voices extremely clear.
It’s also really easy to use. I just connected it with a HDMI cable to the ARC input on my TV and the TV’s volume control operates the volume of the C20 and it automatically turns on and off with my TV.
Great little product from Yamaha.
I bought this sound bar thinking it would not make a difference and boy was i wrong, the TV has good quality sound easy to install the bass and the subwoofer make a difference, but its better with music playing, several different options, good quality and has a some weight behind it… Highly recommend
This soundbar has solved our problem of poor sound quality when watching movies using the Amazon fire stick with our SONY Bravia TV.
No more do we have to lower the volume when the soundtrack music goes into over drive or up the volume when the dialogue starts to mumble. The Yamaha has a movie setting and a clear voice setting to counteract these problems and it works well.
The box sits unobtrusively in front of the TV and also performs well as a Bluetooth speaker in its own right.
I bought this soundbar on the basis of a review in The Radio Listeners Guide 2022 which reckoned that its performance was on a par with soundbars costing twice as much.
I have ad yamaha soundbars in the past and was very pleased with them which I have past on to family I have tried other ones but I still prefer yamaha they are the best for me
Definitely made a difference to the quality of my tv sound – easy to use remote and great settings available to play with.
Good product for the money. Compact and looks pretty premium too. Seen soundbars at twice the price that don’t look as good. Apart from the lights, there isn’t much of a display but there is a decent app available.
easy to set up, improves quality of sound on tv for hard of hearing
Purchased Feb 2021, sent off for repair in Sept, as just stopped working. Stopped working again in Dec. Amazon are sending out a replacement. Come on Yamaha, what’s going on.
This Yamaha compact soundbar is the first soundbar I have ever purchased. To say it has totally improved my TV is an understatement. For the price it’s an unbelievable piece of technology. So so easy to set up (dont forget to buy a EARC cable) and your viewing is transformed. The clear voice feature is a massive step forward.
Really easy to setup. It has a lovely compact design but packs a punch.
Recently purchased a new Sony Bravia smart TV to replace my old one which was showing signs of the end of days.
The sound on the new purchase just like the previous was nothing to shout about.
Typical of slim TV’s with compact speakers.
Decided for the first time to invest in a Soundbar. Being a virgin in these matters i trolled through many options and plumped for this one at what appeared to be a reasonable price.
It arrived next day and within 10mins it was up and running. It comes with a optical lead but fortunately i had a spare HDMI high speed lead which i connected via Arc.
The bar itself is 23 inches in lenth, so it sat in front between the legs of my 42 inch TV perfectly.
The difference in sound is quite telling considering how the quality of sound on the likes of Sky Movies etc can be poor as well as digital TV channels.
Clear Voice helps tremendously and Bass extention gives the boom..
Remote is easy to use and is ok once you suss it. You can download the soundbar app onto your or whatever which is more informative as you can see what your options and what your doing.
Also has Bluetooth which is very good for playing music from Spotify etc from the bar.
Overall from being a soundbar virgin I’m now broken in and happy.
For the price I wasn’t expecting anything too fancy, but the sound quality and different modes are so much better than the standard tv speakers.
Been looking at soundbars forever! Wanted something of a decent quality, but not too intrusive and costly. When this came up on Amazon at 149.00 from 199.00 it became a no brainer. Never purchased a Yamaha product before, totally impressed, clear crisp sound, not distorted, perfect for a small medium lounge.
Very pleased with this soundbar. I am a complete dum dum with installing technical items but after a couple of false starts I go this working without too much stress or delay.
My main reason for purchasing a soundbar was to improve the clarity of speech on our 12 year old Sony TV. I can now hear the speech so much more clearly. It allows me to enjoy films again, and it even seems to help with football commentary, where previously the crowd sounds used to drown out the voice of the commentator.
Excellent value for money.
Sound bar on my Sony Bravia irreparable. A bit reticent about buying a 3rd part option but it was very easy to connect and very good to look at. More importantly the sound to my ears is as good as the original Sony. Good value. It arrived from Amazon the next day from order.
Easy to set up. Excellent sound for a compact soundbar. I used it in my conservatory so a relatively small room. I would highly recommend it.
Made a big difference to our telly – much richer, more powerful sound, with no problems. LEDs give feedback (read the manual!) on what current settings are, which is helpful. Well worth the money.
I am using this as my Desktop computer speakers, replacing some Bose ones. Very impressed with the sound, and it sits nicely under my monitor, and is just the right size! Plenty of connection options and also plenty of options for setting things up how you want, like turning off Bluetooth and dimming the lights, or turning off completely.
Compact size, easily fitted, the app for control is good. The sound quality is what you would expect from a Yamaha produc
This is a great no-frills soundbar. Note that it does not come with a HDMI cable, so if you want to connect using ARC you’ll need to buy one (< 5). This soundbar does not attempt any form of virtual surround, instead focussing on producing a rich sound and clear speech. Using ARC the AV sync is good. It comes with a remote, or you can download and use the Yamaha app on your smartphone instead, personally I find the latter much more useful. When watching TV and movies I recommend setting the subwoofer to 4 (max) and enabling both Bass Expansion and Clear Voice - this produces a great result for me at home. My living room is huge, so ignore any "only for small rooms" claims.
Does not compare with the big boys… but crucially is suited to smaller rooms. It does not overpower the room with bass. The settings are meaningful, and you can reduce the bass and increase speech easily via remote.
The drivers seem to be upward firing mostly, so works well in a low down position too.
However, like a lot of budget audio… it does sound a little bit ‘hollow’ sound compared to the solidity of sound that you get with throwing more money. It does offer reasonably good sound though, especially for the price.
Good value and fits the bill… very compact.
I purchased the Yamaha C20 soundbar primarily for the Clear Voice feature, as my 70-something mom is hard of hearing. She had been struggling to hear the news and all of her must watch programs. I didn’t want to spend a ton of money, nor did I want an overly large soundbar. The current living room TV is a 4 year-old 48″ mid-range Sony Bravia. With the C20 measuring 60cm (around 24″), it fit our TV perfectly.
Soundbar arrived a few days earlier than expected which was great. What was even better was that the Yamaha C20 was a cinch to set up. There is a companion app available for iOS/Android, and it is also easy to use/setup. (Search for Yamaha SB Remote).
I had the soundbar hooked up to my (very basic) Sony Bravia in a matter of minutes. Was immediately blown away how great *everything* sounded when the TV audio was fed through the soundbar. TV programs and news were much easier for the whole family to hear, music streamed from my iPhone sounded fantastic, too.
The real standout for me, aside from the Clear Voice function, was the movie setting. I rented an action movie from the iTunes Store the first Saturday we had it. The difference! It was a significantly improved viewing experience over watching movies on my previously soundbar-free television. While it doesn’t give you “Wow-It’s-Like-I’m-At-The-Cinema” surround sound –certainly not at this price point — it does greatly improve film sound, the dialogue and your overall enjoyment of whatever you choose to watch. Prior to this purchase, I was someone who wasn’t overly convinced that a soundbar was a necessity for the living room TV. Having had the C20 for all of five days now, I cannot imagine going back to my smart TV’s tiny, tinny speakers!
If you’re a home theatre aficionado, this soundbar will most likely be too basic for your needs. However, if you just want to improve the sound quality on your entry or mid-range smart tv at a decent price and don’t care about whether your soundbar has Dolby Atmos and/or DTS:X or all the other high priced bells and whistles, the Yamaha C20 soundbar is a great buy. The only very minor niggle is the soundbar will switch itself off after 10-15 minutes of not being used, but as other reviewers have said, this is not a big deal and should not deter the majority of people from considering this fantastic little soundbar.
I spent far too long trawling tech sites before I settled on this soundbar – almost enough to convince myself that I *needed* all the high-end tech features that I’d literally never heard of the day before.
I’m not an audiophile, but I am a professional film critic, which makes it all the more embarrassing that I’d spent years hearing everything through my Samsung TV’s tinny little speakers.
Unless you pay a fortune for separates you’re not going to get proper stereo sound (even if every soundbar promises to imitate it), so you’re arguably better off going for something like this that excels at delivering quality unprocessed audio without all the artificial gimmicks.
As soon as you plug it in (all very easy to do), the C20 sounds fantastic. Fiddle around with the settings a bit (easier on the free app than on the remote, because it shows you what’s ‘on’ and what’s ‘off’) and it gets even better. The bass isn’t powerful enough to shake the paint off the walls but it is enough to make the Netflix logo scare you the first time you hear it – and it gives well-mixed films real heft and depth. More importantly, the Clear Voice function helps to keep the mids nice and crisp – maybe a tad hissy at high volumes, but nothing that’s ever distracting – which is (apparently) hard to do in a soundbar of this size. Overall, the sound is wonderfully rich and expansive, working well with everything I’ve thrown at it – from vintage movies and TV quiz shows to modern UHD discs and Bluetooth streamed music.
It looks neat, it fits nicely in-front of my 42″ TV and it makes everything I watch sound better. If you want a full home cinema experience that wraps you in a rippling wall of sound, look elsewhere. But if you want to upgrade your TV sound to something that feels more enveloping, more powerful and more well defined, the C20 seems like a great choice.
Excellent product. Replaced SONY sound bar. Definitely worth paying extra to override flat screen TV sound
This Yamaha sound bar has made listening to the tv so much clearer and brings programs to life. A shorter than average length bar but don’t be fooled the sound quality is top of the range. It is easy to set up and has a quality finish that beats most bars that look very plastic and cheap.
Great sound and a very fair price.
Only criticism is the sound bar switches it self off after only a few minutes of non use, including when tv is on mute, which is annoying as you have go find the remote or open the app again!!
However don’t be put off from making a purchase it’s worth the money..
Needed a short soundbar with low height – C20A one of the few that fitted the bill. Its a solid bit of kit. Odd that it does not come with an HDMI lead. Clear sound helps with dialogue. Certainly a step up on TV speakers. Seems particulary good with HD movies through Sky Q box when in “movie” mode. Decent bass without being overpowering. Good with music via bluetooth. If you have size constraints on a soundbar and want a modest step up on your TV’s sound then this fits the bill, good quality build and well balanced overall sound.
Absolutely Amazing, Great product with amazing sound quality and beautiful build!
