Love the noise it helps me to sleep. Checked the filter after a few weeks and it has caught so much dust!

First the few negative bits about this air purifier. First, as many reviewers have mentioned, there’s no app connectivity in this model of AEG air purifier. They have got the product description wrong but if you scroll down to the “Product comparison” section of the page, you would see that App is crossed out against it. Second, in my opinion, it is good for a 25-30 sqm room and would not be able to cater to the needs of UK 40 sqm rooms. We are using it in our bedroom which 26ish sqm.
Now that’s out of the way, the nice things about it is that is quiet and has a night mode which is even more silent. One can hear the hum of the motor but to us it is not disturbing or noisy. The symbol/buttons on the top of the purifier is easy to understand and are easy to use. The quality of air is shown in different colour (on top panel), green being the cleanest.
It also has the change filer light which would guide you when to change the filter.
Overall, this air purifier from AEG has a compact design and works well with less noise. They need to update the description on Amazon, since it’s been reported so many times in review. I am not sure if they are paying any attention.. :(. Does not fill you with confidence on their after sales service, does it?
It gets 4 stars from me.

This is a great value for money air purifier, which has a small footprint and can be discreetly placed in the corner of any room.

It is easy to use and has an indicator of the air quality in the room you choose to use it in, via a green light system, which shows when the air is clean.

This is an excellent value money purifying machine, which operates really quietly, especially if used in sleep mode, as it only gives off a gentle whirring sound.

It is ideal for home use, especially to reduce air pollutants for allergy sufferers.

It is very easy to use and looks good, would fit nicely in every interior, for me sleeping mode is a bit too loud, apart from that I think is is very good air purifie

We use this in our bedroom and on night mode it’s perfect. It’s quiet but does make a noise, however it’s very constant so is like white noise and you get used to it very quickly. We’re so used to it now we look for it and know if we forgot to switch it on. One of us will get up to switch it on as we find the noise now helps us get to sleep. In regards the air quality, I used to suffer from dry throat in the mornings but with this I’ve found that I get a much better sleep and don’t wake up with a mouth like an Arab’s sand-shoe.

I like to use this in the kitchen as 8 find it helps to get rid of some of the cooking smells. I’ve also noticed my hay fever symptoms haven’t been as bad this year since using the purifier. The air certainly feels cleaner.

We’ve all been surprised by just how much difference this really quite compact device makes to the quality of our sleep. And it has reduced my partner’s seasonal snoring (caused by hayfever) quite a bit.

However, there are considerable inaccuracies in the listing description. The tick box comparison with their other models above is the most accurate but still not completely right!

This is NOT a smart device and it doesn’t connect to the AEG well-being app.

The filter needs changing annually (not every two years) if you use it 8 hours day

And finally, it really isn’t big enough for a 40sq m room. (the manufacturer based that on Swedish requirement for fewer air changes per hour) based on the normal USA requirement it’s right for a 16sq metre room, as the UK packing tells you. This would be the average double bedroom – in which it does work really well.

On the plus side, it really is very quiet as it claims.

As you can see it didn’t lose a single star for all these inaccuracies, because even though I am normally a quite harsh reviewer — it really is a super little machine. And what price do you put on a snoring-free night 🙂

    I hope it helps.

Been using this for a while now to get a true testing of it.

I have two family members who suffer with allergies and hayfever and always came home suffering with them after school/work. Since this has been in use (daily) it has cleared the air in the house and both family members haven’t been suffering as much (they still do until they use hayfever medicine but before using this purifier it wasn’t enough)

The automatic system works really well. It definitely works as some times it goes onto the stronger setting for a couple of minutes to clear the air more. Its silent on the first mode only.

There is, however, no wifi app for this.

I thought this device would be great to help with my hayfever. I suffer really bad with hayfever even with medication but I seem to struggle more at night when the windows need to be open. I put this device on in my bedroom before I go to bed and leave it on whilst I’m there.
Even on maximum, it’s still reasonably quiet. You can very much hear it but it’s a constant drone noise so you can sleep fine with it on. It does help with my hayfever. It is considerably less aggressive so I think it must be helping.
I also tried it in my kitchen as it says it gets rid of smells but my kitchen is a kitchen diner and I think the area was too big for the device to get rid of the smells after cooking.
Overall 4 stars. It’s easy to use, not too loud, helps with hayfever but not sure it helps with strong cooking smells in a large (ish) kitche

My mom has asthma and a cardiac condition that means her respiratory health has been weakened and she is forever gasping for breath!
Now, as we are currently renovating the house and she has to stay with us, with the very same room used for storage of some ( a few actuallyt) boxes, there is very little clean air in the room. She used to keep all the windows and doors open to improve the quality of air! We have air purifiers in my office , in the living room and outr bedroom and already know the difference these devices make! So, as soon as this came it was plugged in in her room! YOu can tell the difference the next day, at least she could not feel it until she slept with the windows closed and did not wake up once because of not having enough oxigen! It is and has been on for almost a month and she is feeling great, unlike before, so I can vouch for this air purifier and can recommend it to absolutely anyone! It is also quite silent, so she not once mentioned that its humming disturbs her sleep…in fact, it is her snoring that disturbs ours now! LOL

This AEG air purifier works well, in fact, it works a little too well, because if you are like we are, and regularly use scented candles, essential oil diffusers, or similar, you will need to turn the air purifier off because it really does clear the air within the room its situated in. With that in mind, we would say that this air purifier isn’t for everyone, it’s obviously going to be a blessing in disguise for allergy sufferers, but if you need to use any sort of humidifier within your home, then this will practically cancel it out.

After a couple of weeks trying it out, we have to admit that the air purifier didn’t really suit our needs, however, we gave it to our daughter, who has had much better use out of it than we ever would, and would highly recommend it. Bear in mind that if you are a light sleeper, and/or you require a humidifier during the night, then this purifier might not be for you, it does not operate silently, even on the lowest setting, and as previously mentioned, it will dry out the air within the room fairly quickly.

On the positive side, our daughter has noticed a significant improvement in the quality of the air within her home, and even though she only suffers from mild allergy symptoms during the summer months, the symptoms have hardly appeared since using the air purifier. On the negative side, a price of 199.00 seems a little expensive for the AX31-201GY model, if it had all the features as advertised in the product description, then the price would be justified to a certain degree, but this model doesn’t seem like real value for money at that price.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWe are loving this new air purifier. We have a couple more and so able to cover most of our house. This one covers 40m2 with can be an open plan area or a large room. We use this for our lounge. It is very important to keep the air in our houses clean, and it can help prevent issues or help people with allergies or asthma or other respiratory difficulties. I recommend regular use for at least a month to fully see the benefits.

This is very easy to set up and use. You remove the packaging from the filter, plug it in and switch on. It’s quiet and you only hear a faint white noise. In the sleep mode, which is the quietest one you can barely hear anything. If you start increasing the speed of the fan then you might start hearing it but you don’t need to increase the fan speed on auto function as it does it automatically as needed. I haven’t used it at night in the bedroom so I’m not sure if it would bother me.

It shows you whether the air in your room is clean by changing colour. Ours is normally green unless we’ve had the window open and pollutants came in or if we’ve been cooking with the kitchen door open. It has helped with sneezing and eye irritation due to dust.

The filter cannot be washed, you have to replace it and it will tell you when depending on frequency and hours of use. But it can last from 1-2 years.

Overall for the price this is a definite yes from us. It is a good quality air purifier that won’t break the bank and will do a good job covering a good size area.

I like the compact size of this air purifier and yet still as efficient as compared to my other bigger and branded air purifier. We do a lot of cooking in the house especially frying. Now we all know how bad it is for our health when we inhale these smoke. Every time we cook, we would switch this on to clean the air. Some of us in the household also suffers from hayfever and having this machine appears to have helped! The night mode is super quiet and even my toddler managed to sleep through with no problem.
I like that it helps take the edge off during the summer months, it kind of cools the air as well as clean the air. I use it in the living room during the day and take it upstairs to the bedroom at night, as it is lightweight, it is very portable. The automode is an excellent function as it monitors the air around you and will set the speed accordingly. It definitely picked up the cooking and automatically stepped up the air cleaning process. As I have a toddler around, I wanted to ensure my toddler breathe in cleaner air. My next door neighbour is a smoker and sometimes, the cigarette smell would drift in before I could shut the windows, so now I just have it on all the time and gives me that peace of mind.

    Pro
    – Easy to set up, just fit in the new filter and plug in.
    – Simple to Operate
    – Portable
    – Looks fantastic
    – Power filtration that removes 99.6% of airborne bacteria

    – Love the auto function

    Con
    – A minor negative is that the able is only a bout a meter short. It would be better if its longer as sometimes you don’t always have a power source everywhere.

I am very please with this air purifier, and I would recommend.

Might be expensive but I certainly works wonders.

Nice modernly designed air purifier which can go in any room without looking out of place or challenging your rooms current decor. Works well, operates nice and quietly on night mode but i have found it difficult to source replacement filers so bare that in mind when ordering. Also its disappointing that the unit doesn’t have an auto off timer or a remote control. I believe the product to be a little over price for what you receive.

My husband has all sorts of allergies – pets, tree pollen, wool, feather you name it, he sneezes because of it.

I wanted to see if this air purifier would make a difference to at least our bedroom air quality and after a couple of weeks in constant use I think that it has.

It is quite large, so you need to find the right spot for it as it isn’t unobtrusive by any stretch.

The sleep mode is good, it is quiet enough not to annoy me and I like my bedroom to be silent – because I have a lot to put up with from hubby snoring like a rhino…..the last thing I want is additional mechanical noise, but I am pleased to say that this doesn’t impact on my sleep when it is in sleep mode.

I have had it on sleep mode through the night and on a higher setting during the day and I think it has definitely reduced some of his sneezing and allergy reactions, it has no impact on me whatsoever, but I am hoping it eases things for him – it certainly can’t harm.

Super easy to use and set up as long as you remember to remove the plastic covering from the filter first, other than that you just need to press the top of the machine to choose your setting and then it’s done, it has automatic adjustment setting that will change the fan speed to what you need and has a light that changes colour to the air quality in the room, it also has night mode which is very quiet and its size is very small and can fit nicely next to my bed. Overall the air feels much better with this air purifier and feels like a good quality air purifier, also I must add this air purifier isn’t a smart air purifier and you can’t use any apps with it, like it says in the description.

    Nice and small.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI was quite intrigued when aI first saw this product based on the product description. Unfortunately there are quite a few inaccuracies in terms of features that are still not corrected at the time of writing this review (30/06/21)

The air purifier can’t connect to the app as there are no connectivity features included in this model, no Bluetooth or WiFi. The quoted is 40 square metres room cleaning capacity is not true, the box states 16 square metres. The filter’s lifetime is quoted for 2 years but the box/manual says 1 year. Also the manual has some seriously broken English which I’m used to but not something I expect from a brand like AEG. All in all the product description is quite a sloppy job and it seems like they copy+pasted it from a more expensive model.

Now with this out of the way let’s see how the product performs. Setup is super easy, first you need to remove the plastic wrapper from the filter, so turn the unit upside down, turn the base and lift out the filter. Remove packaging and in it goes back in. It can go in either way, both end is the same. I’d like to point out here that the filter looks like quality. I have tested 2 other air purifiers in the last 12 months and their filter didn’t look this dense. This gave me confidence from the get go that this filter will actually do a good job. Once the filter is in place connect the unit to the mains and turn it on. Job done. Huge well done to AEG to create an appliance that doesn’t BEEP! I was amazed to see that touching any of the buttons result in the job being done without annoying beeps and melodies. Great job, this should be mandatory on every device/appliance (with the OPTION to turn it on for those who need it)

The default auto mode sets the fan speed automatically and continuously monitors air quality for you. You can override the fan speed should you wish to by pressing the fan button. The whole layout is very modern and minimalistic by the way. There is a small light that can display green, amber and red colours depending on the air quality and blue right after turning the purifier on which means it’s getting a reading. I only saw the green colour so far so air quality must be good here. The sound levels are good, the quietest one is barely noticeable and the medium one should be fine to only the loudest setting being too distracting for me.

The night mode…at first I thought to myself how can anyone sleep next to this?! It was quite but it kept ramping up the speed every 4 seconds or so making it extra annoying. I captured a video to show you. As it turns out this was a one off issue that hasn’t come up ever since. The thing must have stuck in this loop as it was doing this for about 2 hours before I turned it off in disappointment. But it’s been working fine ever since and it is indeed whisper quiet.

Other than these there is a third button looking thing that is actually a light that only light up when you need to change the filter. That’s it in terms of controls, it is simple but I wish they put a timer button on it so you can set auto shut off as in my experience these purifiers can make the air inside quite dry and I always have to turn them off after a few hours anyway or the whole family starts to cough.

As I mentioned before during the testing the unit displayed green light meaning the air quality was good throughout but I’m disappointed to say that it didn’t help my hayfever one bit. I don’t know what is actually irritating me but it doesn’t get better when the purifier is on with windows closed and green light continuously displayed. And I tried this in our smallest room which is roughly 7 square metres that is less than half the capacity of the appliance.

All in all I have mixed feelings. The product description is misleading, but apart from that it’s a solid little thing that looks the part and easy to operate. It didn’t help my hayfever but it could be just me. I can still recommend this if you know what you’re buying and don’t expect features that are not part of the deal. It’s actually 3 and a half stars from me but since I can’t do that here I’m gonna go with 4.

If you found my review helpful please hit the helpful button! Thanks!

This is a great air purifier. It does an excellent job and the visual display to show you the quality of air is brilliant and works very quickly. When I made some popcorn on the hob, even though I hadn’t burnt anything the display quickly turned red. Within about 20 minutes the popcorn smell in the room had disappeared and the display had turn back to green. The unit itself is a little bit bulky and is slightly awkward to find a decent spot for it if you are in a small apartment where space is at a premium.
The biggest negative of all is the fact that you can’t direct the air flow. It goes straight up (which is most probably more effective in getting the room air circulating) but it would have been nice to let it do double duty and use it as a fan too, as the air coming from it feels so clean and fresh.
I did try using it on its side and it didn’t seem to affect it’s performance, but I’m not sure if this could damage it.
Overall I am really pleased with it’s ability to do what it’s supposed to do.
    Highly recommended.

It’s easy to move and a lot smaller than my other air purifier.
    Pros
    Look good
    Quite small
    Good colour
    Easy to use
    Not too noisy
    Cools and cleans air
    Cons
Although I think it’s ok some people will find the noise too much
Overall, a good unit. The LED display on the top is easy to understand- green means the air is good etc. The controls are easy to use as they are on the top too.
    I like it!

We are really pleased with this latest offering from AEG. This air purifier is quiet, discreet and highly effective. It’s also super easy to set up.

When you open the box and take out the unit the first thing you notice is just how small and lightweight it is. This makes it highly portable and incredibly easy to manoeuvre between rooms maximising it’s potential to cleanse the air quality in and around your home. It’s also not too large measuring just 15 inches tall by 8 inches wide. Having such small dimensions means you can easily find a discreet space to set this up in your room of choice. It is powered by mains and there is a small socket located in the middle of the rear of the unit where you attach it to its power source. The cable length isn’t that long at approximately 1 metre so you either need to locate it near to a mains socket or use an extension cable.

A digital touch control pad sits upon the centre of the top of the unit and is basic in its controls and very easy to use. There are minimal buttons to worry about on the touchpad. A simple power on and off, automatic or sleep mode and fan speed setting depending on the level you wish the unit to run at. Il come on to this later. Surrounding the touchpad is the air ventilation point whereby your filtered air emits.

Running the circumference of the base of the unit is the air intake ports. This is where the air is pulled into the filter. It runs fairly quietly on low and night operation modes but obviously the more intensive settings increase the background noise during operation. You get used to the fan noise on its lowest setting very quickly and we soon didn’t notice it working at all. Certainly with things like the TV on or music playing you don’t really hear it. The highest setting is a bit louder however and you will most likely be aware of it. The unit is very smart however and in auto mode it constantly analyses the air quality and adjusts to its optimum settings to give you the cleanest air possible. That’s great to know and means you can just set it up and leave it going knowing it’s working hard to cleanse your air. A small light bar on the touchpad indicates how clean the current air quality is. Green for good, moving though amber and on to red for poor air quality.

When you initially set this up you need to remove the inner HEPA filter from its storage bag and replace it back in the unit. You do this by turning it upside down and unscrewing the base from the main body. The filter simple drops in place and you screw the lid back on again. Easy!

There is a night mode operation which runs power at its lowest setting so you can use this to maximise air quality in a bedroom without disturbing your sleep. That’s useful and effective. We actually found we had a better nights sleep for it, or at least we felt better than usual when waking. I have no idea if that’s just psychological or not but either way we just felt more refreshed in the morning. The manufacturers quote that this unit can extract pollutants measured at 0.3 microns. That’s pretty small, at about an eight the thickness of a human hair! Everyone in our family, other than my wife, suffer with hay fever and at this level of filtration this unit will easily filter out pollen particles which is what we primarily wanted it to do. We all agreed the air you breath in has a certain fresh and crispness to it that wasn’t there before.

It can cover areas of up to approximately 40 square meters. That’s more than adequate for your average family home. Bearing in mind it’s portability it means you can literally set this up anywhere you have a mains power source. True HEPA filter technology also means that it can filter other airborne particles and pollutants. Again the manufacturers quote a life expectancy from your filter of around 12 months based on average use of 8 hours a day. That’s pretty decent to be fair.

In summary we are very pleased with this. Knowing this little unit is constantly working daily in the background to provide our family with cleaner and more pure air gives us great peace of mind. Ultimately for a relatively small investment you are effectively increasing the health and well-being of you and your family. You can never put a price on your families health but if this contributes to a better quality of life then surely it’s worth it? Having spent some time with it and feeling a physical difference to the air I breath we are considering investing in a second unit. A truly great product at a very good price.

Portable, versatile, quiet, efficient and effective.

There are so many reasons why one would want to invest in one of these machines. Even within my own household, there are several benefits. Two of us in the house suffer from an allergy to dust mite. The house is never open to fresh air because we live in a semi-rural area and there are far too many bugs and small animals that will take any opportunity to enter the house. Finally, due to my poor health, I have very low immunity to infections and viruses.

We already have a larger air purifier downstairs in the lounge, but I wanted a smaller one for my bedroom. This AEG one is ideal as it’s very compact and can sit on my chest of drawers. I should point out though that the product page mentions a WiFi app, but this unit doesn’t have WiFi. Not a great loss in my opinion, but I feel you should be warned.

Setting the unit up is quite straight forward. You need to turn the unit upside down and unscrew the base. This will reveal the air filter, which is in a plastic bag. This bag has to be removed and the filter reinstalled. Replace the base and turn up the right way and plug the power adaptor into the socket at the back of the unit and plug into the mains.

All the controls are on the top of the unit, and they are touch buttons. You can manually set three speeds of fan operation, or you can set it into auto mode, where the fan automatically adjusts depending on the air quality. There’s an air quality indicator that changes colour depending on the air quality. There’s also a button to set night mode, which will slow the fan right down and makes it quieter for you to sleep.

The current price of just under 200 might seem high, but can you put a price on getting some relief from an allergy or protecting someone from airborne viruses! It’s an investment into better health.

Overall, you can’t put a price on better health. I hope that helps.
