Brilliant little tool. Light and easy to carry. Very powerful, almost too powerful sometimes. This is our second as we were so impressed with the first. Not too expensive and spare parts and bags readily available.
Overall very happy with this, I got it due to it being a which recommended vacuum cleaner and it does the job well, the suction is great and it does pick up my cat hair off the carpet.
I think it could be better if we were able to get a carpet attachment just to help us be able to use it on the carpet.
Good vacuum cleaner, I was afraid that the engine power would be too small but I was wrong, it pulls very well. I am satisfied, the price is also satisfactory. The only downside is the hose that could be more flexible, this one is stiff, it’s a simple plastic pipe, but it’s light. The telescopic tube is aluminum which is a plus because it is lighter than steel and does not rust. I hope it will serve for many years 🙂
I liked this hoover as it’s not too noisy and easy to move around.
Having been disappointed with my previous budget bagless cleaners, I decided to go back to bags and invest a bit more money. I’d heard really good things about the Miele cylinder ones and went for this one as it looked like a good value alternative. And so far, I’m really impressed with the suction power and quietness. I find I only need the dial up to half power for it pick up all and sundry from my carpets, without even needing to use a small brush attachment for deeply embedded bits. This looks like it could be a solid performer for a number of years – only time will tell but so far extremely happy. Nice long extension cord too and looks great in raspberry red!
Very good cleaner. It’s great for hard floor cleaning, which was the main reason for my purchase. Have found it to be a little difficult to move on carpets unless the suction is reduced to a very low setting. Overall though it does the job well and I’m very pleased with my purchase.
Replaced a 20 year old Bosch of very similar design. One of the top Which recommended cleaners. Most of the cylinder cleaners we looked at, bagged or bagless were too big for us but this is one of the smallest and lightest which is great. Also surprisingly quiet. The multi surface head is basic but solid and fine on carpets and hard floors. Suction is good and it’s perfectly easy to adjust it on the body or using the adjuster on the hose handle so we haven’t found it too powerful. The cable is a decent length and reels in well. It easily reaches across our two rooms and up the stairs. The tool holder that clips onto the hose is a bit basic but does the job fine. The red colour is nice though paler than expected. Hope to try it with some paper bags. Overall, an effective, quiet, and easy to use cleaner. Can’t see any point in spending more.
I brought this to replace my previous AEG hoover which ive had for 9yrs+ and its still works but ive passed it on to someone in need. Now this one has a lot going for it and AEG have not let me down with this product.
Lovely style
Superb strong suction which is adjustable
Easy to manoeuvre around the house
Easy to store too
I really cant fault this hoover at all and i would buy another in a heartbeat. I would strongly recommend.
Ive had it now for just over one month and there is no decrease in suction. I am totally happy with this product.
A couple of years ago I bought a bagless hoover which turned out to be utterly useless and a pain in the neck to empty, so I was so fed up I thought I would spend my Christmas money on a new hoover. I read the reviews on this and decided I’d give this a go. I hoovered using the old hoover, then went over again with this new hoover and I couldn’t believe how much this was picking up that the old one had missed. It is true that the suction is so strong it’s hard to push on a carpet, but I tend to pull it towards me anyway and this method is fine. I will never buy a bagless hoover again over a bagged model because the suction is so much better. I can’t believe I’m saying this but hoovering is now a pleasure!!! Great little hoover, easy to manoeuvre, lightweight, easy to change bag, and great adjustable suction.

My first praise has to be the power of suction, just incredible and so easily adjusted to suit any surface. It looks beautiful, much lighter in weight than my previous model. I love the grab handle, plenty room to put your hand through. As for noise, what noise? It is magic, I can hower at any time, even when we work from home. Super machine at an amazing price for this quality.

Inevitably my mother-in-law needed a 21st century upgrade. How delighted she was with my purchase. Ticks all the boxes!! On a par with our Miele. That’s German engineering for you.
Adjustable suction power. Can be adjusted to low for cleaning furniture or higher for floors. Two dogs with a lot of white hair on carpet and furniture. I have found this to be the best cleaner for picking up dog hairs. Also I am able to plug in at one point and clean all rooms downstairs and upstairs without having to change plug in point. Delighted with my choice which had also been recommended by Which.

We bought this as our current cleaner had given up and we needed a replacement urgently. Going by reviews we decided to go for this one.
It was well packed and as we got it together the first thing we noticed was that the alternative tools are hung on the vacuum tube rather than in the unit. Not the best arrangement as they get in the way when using it. Certainly it has tremendous suction, in fact it can be difficult to move the suction head on carpet, not just because of the suction, but also because of the design of the head which is entirely plastic, and is inclined to catch if pushed rather than pulled. It is very good on non-carpeted floors particularly laminates and tiles but is very heavy to use on carpets. It’s not one of our better purchases but if you have a lot of solid floors it will probably do a good job.
I bought this cleaner recently and it is easy to assemble and a lovely colour. So light to carry and incredible suction.
BETTER THAN A DYSON AND CHEAPER TOO. BEING BRITISH I WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT DYSON BUT HIS STUFF, AND WHAT HE SAYS AS WELL, ARE UNACCEPTABLE COMPARED TO THIS.
Pros:
– suction is indeed very powerful, comparable to 1800W vacuum I’ve had before.
– convenient to move on plain floor and even not bad on stairs (easy to lift and put on the stair, better than bagless vacuum I’ve had before)
– adequate cord length
Cons:
– the default brush is seemingly the same you get with AEG/Electrolux for many years.
If the carpet is thick, it sticks and difficult to move even at 50% of suction.
I still give 5 stars, as this is what was expected for the price.
This is excellent.
Put it together in 2 minutes, it’s lightweight & very easy to move with an extra long cable.
The hoover is quiet
The suction is VERY strong
Well worth the money
Great produc
Very happy with this purchase. The hoover is easy to use and light to carry around with a long flex. Suction is good, too good, but you can adjust this with an easy switch on the front to reduce suction. I wanted a hoover especially for wooden and slate floors (some of which are uneven) and this does the job very well, does not mark or catch on the uneven floors. On carpet, I think you would need to reduce the suction, using the dial on the front, but its very versatile and works well on different floor coverings. I would buy it again.
Especially like how quiet it is doesn’t freak the dog ou
Brought this on the recommendation of which and they were right. The suction power is amazing. I’m pretty strong but if you turn the power on full ( it’s variable ) I have a job lifting the head off the floor. Really good value for such powerful vacuum
Cleans up after three messy kids a treat. Suction can be a little fierce on carpet risking you pulling it from the grippers but a little twist of the variable power and the right setting can be found. Bags a little expensive but third party versions can be found very cheaply and work just as well.

Excellent vacuum cleaner just what I wanted wish I had plumped sooner for this model after all disastrous other makes including dyson shark etc all been unreliable and poorly made love love love this hoove
Very strong suction. Tools are a bit flimsy and easily fall off the carrier that attaches to the pipe.
This is a standard bagged vacuum cleaner with one difference: you can vary the suction, based on your requirements. This means that you can set it so that it doesn’t pull the linoleum away from the floor, or damage looser fibred carpets. However, turned up, it really has strong suction. There’s not a lot of difference between most vacuum cleaners, but if this is the feature you’ve been looking for, this one performs very well from soft to powerful.
Not that this is a bag-type, not a bagless, which means there will be a drop in suction if you don’t empty the bag.
Very pleased with this Hoover..bought it for my Daughter. It’s small enough and light to use so perfect for her.
The AEG VX-6-2 came out well in Which? reviews as a good budget vacuum cleaner. that was a good enough recommendation and so I bought it. After about a month of use, so far it has done everything expected of it. Good on hard surfaces, good on carpet; and enough tools to clean other places. As me again in a couple of years.

The only reason I rated it at four stars I did not use it long enough. After few weeks in use it works well, easy to use and good suction on the carpets. Although made of cheap plastic.
Excellent vacuum best ive ever used suction power is amazing even on lowest setting. pulls up dirt from deep down and easy to use and lightweight.
Would rate as 10 star no problems
We have owned many vacuums over the years even Dysons i must say this beats them all hands down at a great price.
What is there to say about a vacuum cleaner ? Well for this AEG an excellent machine are two words that aptly praise this domestic appliance. Easily adjusted power from slight suction to “where’s the carper gone !”, and not a burden to move around an abode devoid of stairs. Good value in a world of vacuum cleaners costing the price of a small car ! And build quality to be expected of something made in Germany.

Love this vacuum cleaner
I think the hose and carpet piece are too thin so used the hose from the previous model brillia
I was going to buy the Henry Hoover. However i am glad i got this one instead. I would have liked a different colour but i love the compact size and easy operation and find the AEG to be very sleek with great performance.
This is an easy to assemble, well designed vacuum cleaner.
The first thing you notice about this cleaner is how quiet it is.
It is probably the quietist vacuum cleaner that I have used.
It is also very efficient at cleaning, the suction is strong and has to be turned down of carpets to allow you to move the nozzle.
I do struggle with vacuum cleaners having bags, preferring the bagless Dyson style cleaners, which, means you don’t need to buy bags.
But if you are happy with bags then there is really nothing to fault in this vacuum cleaner, it well made, has a solid feel to it, is super quiet and has suction to spare and a 6 meter long cable.

After thirty years with the previous cylinder beast thid is amazing. And picks up anything! Only missing a brush attachment but the one from the old one fits so recycling credits ad well.

Cracking little vacuum, I’ve paid hundreds in the past for vacuums, read a review and thought I’d give this one a shot, at a third of the price of some well known brands, my expectations were not high however, for the money, it a great vacuum, light, easy to use and the suction power is grand, if fact feels like a good work out when vacuuming the carpet! Delighted with my purchase!
Really great product. Powerful yet surprisingly quiet. Not much more to say other than that really…
This is pretty powerful. It did seem to have slightly more suction power than other similar bagged vacuum cleaners. It has been reliable and easy to use so far. After a couple of months there haven’t been any problems. For my normal everyday needs ti has worked well.
This is the best vacuum I have bought online, the suction is unbelievable it pulls the carpet up! Its great on hard floors and is very quiet. I would highly recommend it.
As this is a large capacity vacuum cleaner and I know my son hates emptying them, I gave this cleaner to him to test in his new flat. Cylinder cleaners are much more adaptable, and as he has a mixture of wooden, tiled and carpeted floor, he could use it on all surfaces as well as cleaning upholstery and curtains.
It’s a very powerful cleaner with different levels of suction for different surfaces. The powerful ones are great for using with the attachments – great for fishing fluff out of crevices, though you might want to use a gentler setting for carpet or you’ll do yourself an injury trying to push it. This, for me, is where cylinders really win out – all those annoying little jobs like sucking up dust, cobwebs and dead flies from hard-to-reach areas. The instruction booklet isn’t the most user-friendly I’ve ever seen, but a bit of common sense soon serves to work out how to fit the various attachments and what they’re best used for,
In terms of ease of use, it’s a bit big – not the easiest thing to store if you have limited space, but the retractable flex is very long when fully extended, so you don’t have to keep plugging and unplugging as you go.
If you’re used to a bagless vacuum cleaner you may struggle a bit with the removable bag. However, as I said this is a large capacity cleaner so you won;t have to change it very often, and there’s replacement bag supplied with the hoover. After that, you can buy a box of replacements online ( 12-15 a box of 4). Cheaper unbranded versions are available online, but I’m worried they won’t fit properly. The dust filters need to be cleared and washed from time to time.
As for longevity, time will tell – my son doesn’t use it every day so it won’t get the hard use that my (similar) model does. He doesn’t have pets either, so there’s not the dog hair problem I contend with. It’s a very solid and well-made item so I’d imagine it will last a considerable time.
We like AEG vacuum cleaners and this is another hit. It’s light, easy to control, compact and has very good suction and all the equipment you’d need.
It’s a bit more noisy than expected (yet definitely still within the acceptable level), but I’ll take it for the excellent suction it provides (a quite low setting is sufficient for daily use).
It’s a bit expensive here. I would think 90-110 is closer to the correct level.
I must admit I don’t like using bagged vacuums (or ones that have to be plugged in) anymore, so had to give this to The Resident Warlock to test (his last one had just broken down). He appears to like it. He says it’s not quite as powerful as some he has used, but it is very manoeuvrable, and the ability to move to different flooring types is useful. The bags appear to last a long time as he has had it for a month now and hasn’t had to change it.
I’ve been using this vacuum cleaner in a relatively small one-bed, one-level flat (though the rooms are reasonably large), and think this is the kind of space that this product is perfectly suited to.
The suction is brilliant on hard floors, rugs and sofas (if not too strong at times). It even sucks up pet hairs easily. That said, I struggled a little to clean smaller rugs with the larger, wide nozzle as it would suck up and move these rugs, rather than glide over them. The ability to reduce the suction helped with this, but I’d recommend using smaller/no nozzles for smaller rugs.
The hoover’s six-metre long power cable means I have not had to relocate where it is plugged in to clean an entire room, which is a great plus for me, just because it saves time.
This vacuum cleaner is also extremely quiet, as far as vacuum cleaners go, which is definitely a perk to avoid disturbing the neighbours too much. It is also lightweight, rotates and moves across the floor well. Retracting the cable simply requires you to press a button, and it then winds up very quickly. The vacuum comes with three nozzles and the height of the handle is adjustable.
I have used the vacuum cleaner four or five times and the bag is still not anywhere near full — perhaps due to the fact that I’m not using it to clean a huge area, but another reason why this is ideal for a flat. It would’ve been nice if this came with another bag, and I’ve read that the replacements are quite expensive.
Something that was not of particular concern to me but I think is worth noting is that I expected the vacuum to be a somewhat metallic, slick dark red colour due to the image, but it was actually a much brighter red.
Overall, I am very impressed with this product because it overcame some of my main vacuuming-related frustrations (including poor suction and short cables) and has many other positive features, too.
For the price I think it’s a really good option. The suction is very good and it works well on both carpets and solid floors. The operation is surprisingly quiet – which might be a bonus for some. Fairly easy to manoeuvre and comes with 6 meters length of electric cable, which to be fair would have been better if longer – does restrict it’s use to a single room before needing to unplug. Problem is the bags. They are reasonable easy to change without causing too much mess but really this seems to be an old design solution that is used here to get the suction power. But at the expense of having to change bags and have more consumables to buy.
Suction wise this is comparable with our Henry Hoover- but it’s so much lighter, and also a touch smaller which is definitely a bonus when our cupboards are stuffed full! It’s a little more expensive than what we paid for our Henry, but if I had to choose between them I would definitely go with this.
Well, there’s no faulting it’s suction power. If anything this AEG vacuum sucks too well! I had to turn the suction down to nearly minimum power to be able vacuum without it sticking to the floor. Initially I thought this was a negative point, but I’m now coming around to the idea that it is in fact a good thing! For one, it means you’re using less power and therefore electricity and the other, it makes hoovering (for want of a better word) much quieter than most vacuums I’ve used. You can quite easily talk over the noise while you’re using it.
In fact, it performed very well and I would give it five stars on performance, but, there are a few little niggles that made it drop a star. However, still on the plus side, it does have a telescopic handle/tube, so you can adjust the working height. Also it moves around pretty well and the lead retracts well. In short it does what most vacuums of it type do.
On the negative side, it only comes with one bag and filter set. Plus, the two other tools it comes with (a thinner nozzle and an upholstery nozzle) are supposed to clip onto the handle, where they are a total pain and get in the way all the time. So you’d have to keep these somewhere else, which is pretty inconvenient. Ours also does not look the same colour as the one in the picture, ours is more a creamy raspberry pink.
However, if you’re after a quiet hoover/AEG vacuum that saves you money on electricity and therefore is better for the planet, then this would be a good a choice, for you and the planet perhaps.
I like colours you’re going to see when it comes to anything that could accidentally be tripped over, and the bright red colour of this cleaner is easy to spot (unless you have a red carpet that is!).
It has a bag fitted inside, just one of which is included. The design of the bag means you could initially just empty and re-use it if you wished, but that’s not going to be as easy over time as it gets filled up with fluff and hairs, etc. The power cable is really long, which means less changing between power outlets as you move through the house.
The suction at its maximum power setting is so strong that I could barely drag the end across the carpet — it’s a rare thing to have a vacuum cleaner where the ideal setting of the dial is at the halfway point. (With some of the vacuums I’ve had, I have wished I could turn them up more than the dial allows).
I’ll admit I would prefer it to be bag-less but this is advertised as being a bagged cleaner and as such I won’t be deducting any stars — especially because a search for replacement bags for this model reveals them to be inexpensive.
I’m not a fan of bagged cleaners because of the additional cost of having to replace bags, but grabbed this before realising it was bagged. I’m in two minds over it, because it’s a pretty decent budget-level (appearance, cost, warranty/guarantee) hoover.
On the one hand, the hoover is nowhere near as noisy as our current hoover on our flat runner, our plush rug, kitchen mats, and the cushions and throws that I’ve hoovered, and the suction power, especially in removing copious amounts of single and clumped-and-ground/slept-in cat hair is frankly impressive. The flat runner, 12 feet long, kept lifting up due to the suction. The kitchen mats, though rubber-backed and on a laminate floor, came off the floor entirely due to the suction. I had to have my husband stand on the mats and runner, as well as myself, so we could do them in parts – that’s not really convenient. But, the plush rug looks absolutely electrified after cleaning and whilst the occasional stray hair may remain on cushions, overall, I’m happy. Used solely for this purpose, I don’t think I’ll need to replace the bags often.
On the other hand, using this to pick up equally copious amounts of cat litter that gets flung around isn’t so great. The powerful suction seems to initially blow the litter (the white-and-blue pebble-style, which are about 5-10mm big and look like pea shingle) but if I pick up the hoover head and hover over the litter, it grabs the lot. But, the noise does increase and it feels like a whirlwind is going on inside the hoover. This is heavy, pointed litter and I tbh, I think I’m best not using the hoover for this purpose, as bag replacements are going to become a regular thing and an expense. So far, with 10 days’ use for testing purposes, I’ve had to change the bag once, not because it’s full but because suction power is a little reduced and the noise has increased a bit, so I don’t want to risk a burst bag and all the litter dust. As you have to remove the hose when removing the bag, there is a bit of litter dust that comes out and I do wonder how, long-term, this will affect the filter (washable and easy to access) and the life of the motor. I’m thinking we’ll stick to the bagless stick hoover for litter, as that way, I can see, hear and feel when it needs emptying.
You don’t need instructions to get this set up, as the bag comes attached and it’s just a question of joining up the hose, tubing and hoover head and off you go. It has great manoeuvrability and it’s light enough that you don’t feel it’s dragging. The cord is long enough (about 20 feet) that I can do two rooms at a time. The usual tools are supplied; all feel rather plastic-y and that’s why I consider this a budget item. I think it’d fare better for a flat rather than a 3-bedroom house. The hoover head is bulkier and less tapered than most I’ve used and it doesn’t go under an outlet tap that I have on the radiator pipe in my bathroom. That’s a big factor for me, as the bathroom gets a quick hoover daily and to not be able to get under this pipe and get close to the skirting means that I have to swap to the stick hoover. But, that’s a house design issue and not a fault of the hoover.
Overall, I think it is worth the current price of just a few pennies under a hundred and forty quid. I wouldn’t pay more for it, as it does feel like a budget item, and it only comes with a 2-year guarantee, and you have the added cost of bags. You can register the warranty online and there’s the option of extending it for a fee, which depending on the price, might be an idea.
This is a very lightweight and powerful vacuum cleaner. I am disabled and can pick the entire thing up with one hand.
I love the Raspberry colour, its nice and modern, great onboard tools, pretty generous 3.5 litre tank.
I have a Husky, who blows her coat. I used the entire bag up in 2 days due to her hair, so from an financial perspective this vacuum makes no sense for me at all. However i really like it, it sucked up a good 90% of my huskys hair on the 1st sweep which no vacuum i have ever had has done.
All that said. I think that the bags are too expensive. This takes standard philips s bags. You can buy 4 for around 8 or so which i think is far too expensive, and from an environmental perspective it is beyond ridiculous that they dont make a resuseable and washable cloth s bag. Vax do them, it seems illogical to only sell disposable bags.
Ive knocked a star off sue to the pricing of the bags and no availability of reuseable ones, but nothing else negative about it.
OK so most people prefer a bagless but bagged do have advantages to my mind and this one proves it. The suction just seems so much stronger than my bagless one and seems to pick up far more in the process. We have pets and this has handled hair and fur no trouble at all. Easy to put together on arrival and et going really quick with easy instructions. Quite a quiet hoover and value for money compared to others. The bags are available easily which is always a plus and easy to change in seconds. Good length cord and good size for storage in smaller houses and flats etc.
Super suction as my headline and super suction it has in abundance!
The super suction comes at no cost to decibels as its far and away the quietest vacuum we have ever had, and I have had a lot for reviews!
I have just vacuumed the hall (Which is vinyl) and the living room carpet…I had to turn the suction down to the minimum as the brush end was impossible to move with the amount of suction!
The only issue I have with this is that its a bagged Vacuum…that said the bags are available at a reasonable price here on Amazon and no doubt elsewhere.
The cleaner is easily put together and the parts look to be well made.
The 6 meter power cord is a real bonus as most vacuums seem to come with cords that are far too short!..And I love that the power cord is a push button retractable type…I love playing with them! In my opinion everything with a power cord should have one!
So in a few words this is a great vacuum but is possibly a little overpriced…On the other hand it is probably the best vacuum I have ever reviewed!
The vacuum cleaner turned up in an appropriately sized box which makes a change. Unpacking was pretty easy.
Notably the pieces didn’t seem to click together as much as usual, a lot of friction fittings on the hoses, which I guess is fine, less to worry about snapping off I think, but it didn’t have the same satisfying clicks I get from my miele pet bagged model which is basically the same sort of spec as this (although more expensive).
The vacuum cleaner once powered on is really quiet. I mean, on the lowest setting you wouldn’t hear it from another room. It’s really seriously quiet. Once you turn it up to max it does make some noise, but you could hold a conversation over it easily without raising your voice. Spooky.
Suction is good, but you do find that you have to turn it down to half or less on carpet unless you’re doing bodybuilding because it sucks the head provided to the floor pretty well, you can’t move it at all on max.
I would recommend a head with a turbine in it as these improve carpet cleaning massively, this kit doesn’t provide one. I generally wouldn’t recommend buying a configuration without one, although I think it’s sold separately so I guess it’s whether you can buy the next model up now, or add the turbine brush in later. Or indeed whether you may already have one, are they a standard fitting, I wonder.
Storage is pretty average, the cable winds in well, and the hose just clips to the side in the standard fashion, it can be stored flat or upright, upright taking less footprint (about a square foot).
The bag is fine, it felt a but thin compared to the FJMs of miele, which seem to come in at the same price per bag too, but you can get other bag types for this model, they’re “S-bags”. I wonder if it’s alphabetical? Which raises an interesting question about future bag names.
As far as I can see the additional filter is washable which is nice, as a lot of these vacuums come with non washable hepa filters (like my miele) which are almost impossible to find new ones of!
You can generally get parts from AEG directly, I have had to do that recently with the filter for another AEG model as I ripped it by accident, it was easy enough to get the part.
Overall I found no issues with the vacuum cleaner and I liked the volume dial, I find these very useful. You would do well to either buy it with a turbine head or get one separately. This would raise its cleaning performance significantly, but as it comes, it’s a respectable suction only cylinder vac which seems well built and robust although not finished to the same standard as the super deluxe models seem to be. But it certainly didn’t feel cheap.
This is a nice little vacuum cleaner, fairly lightweight , classic sort of design, red like the kit of my favoured ice hockey teamI am a bit addicted to vacuuming as I have a white cat who leaves hard-to-see fur pretty much everywhere. This model made a much cleaner sweep of my living space than the industrial strength machine I normally. Has a large bag capacity although I like to empty after every use, I’m funny that way. And in a very other ways too, if I’m being honest. Recommended.
We have a mix of carpeted floors, rugs and hard floors and this vacuum coped well with the fitted carpets and hard floors but it needed adjusting for rugs as it’s suction is very strong. It is not difficult to alter the suction, just a bit irritating to have to keep changing it. The tools fit on OK, and the cleaner is not too heavy, I can manage it up the stairs which I cannot to do with our large Dyson, so I can now clean the upstairs rooms and the stairs even if I am at home alone, which I have not been able to do for a few years. The vacuum is fairly quiet, much more so than many other makes, which is brilliant for me as our granddaughter is quite sensitive to noise – she copes well with meusung this one whereas she was afraid of my big vacuum.
Overall, I am pleased with this cleaner, especially for the price. It is a good value mid-range cleaner with a decent build quality. Not top end quality but far less than top end price.
I have used and reviewed various vacuum cleaners over the years. Vax, Hoover, Dyson, AEG……etc. Some better than others and some have lasted longer than others and it it has not always been the most expensive that has been best. I was impressed with my last AEG vacuum cleaner and am still using it so I was interested as how this one would compare. Straightaway I should say this is easy to set up and easy to use. The controls are straightforward. I like the simple twist dial to turn the power up. The chord is a good size and will be suitable for most houses. It has a plastic feel to it but feels solid and well made. There is a good assortment of parts for vacuuming different surfaces. The parts are solid. They fit securely. It is fairly light and ideal for carrying up and down the stairs. It is one of the quietest vacuum cleaners I have had. The suction is very impressive. I he tried it on carpets and on wooden floors and it really does the job well. It is manoeuvrable around furniture and corners. One of the advantages over and upright cleaner is it’s manoeuvrability. The bag is said to be 3.5 litres so it should not changed too often. I like the fact that the filter is good quality and is washable. The bag is already fitted to the cleaner and no spare is included. One spare could have been included. I prefer vacuum cleaners without the bag but the bags are relatively Inexpensive. The bag is easy to change. If it was bagless, it would be very close to giving 5 stars, it probably deserves 4.5 stars. This is a really good vacuum cleaner.
We have used Dyson vacuum cleaners for over 10 years. Every now and then they break down, need repairing and can be a bit temperamental, but Dyson customer service is second to none and the cleaner always comes back either fixed or they give you a brand new product. I have tested 20 vacuum cleaners for the Vine programme and most of them have been inferior in every way to a Miele I was given to test two years ago. Up to now, If I was buying another vacuum cleaner, then I would probably put my money into a Miele which I tested in 2017 or another Dyson because of the customer service. When this cleaner was offered to me via the Vine programme, I jumped at the chance to try an AEG to see how it compared to all the others.
First things first, this is a 139.99 product (at time of review). It is never going to be on the same level as a 300 Miele. I will judge it on the price at the time of review. There is no way its going to compete with the aforementioned brands, so I will judge it in comparison to the cleaners I have tested at this price range, namely Hoover and Vax.
My first impression on receiving the cleaner I was positive. Yes, its a lot of plastic in a box, no it does not have the absolute quality feel of a Miele, but then its a third of the price. What this is, is a budget hoover, made for a low price. My only complaint is that it comes with a 2-year guarantee, Dyson has a 5 year and VAX is a 6-year guarantee. You can buy a 10 year Miele guarantee for 50 directly from Miele. Just to put it into context, VAX may have a 6-year guarantee, but when a part went wrong after only 4 weeks of use, they could not care less and refused to do anything. You can put a long guarantee on anything, but if you refuse to do anything, then what is the value of such a guarantee? I must say, having only a 2-year guarantee would put me off buying this, with my own money. I have no previous knowledge of how good AEG cleaners are. We had an AEG washing machine which was not as good a quality product as the shop had made out. So first impressions were good. When it came to using and testing this cleaner, it becomes obvious that they are good but not great……again for the price they are fine. Firstly, the tools click into place. Pipes are made from plastic and steel. The quality of the attachment pipe is obviously made to a price.
So how does this vacuum actually clean? It uses a bag and it is incredibly powerful. It weighs about 5 Kg which is a good weight. It cleaned virtually everything we used it for, without too much effort. The controls are very intuitive and easy to press. I cannot fault the suction nor cleaning action of this product. The unit is also one of the quieter cleaners we have used.
Overall, this is a small but pretty good cleaner. It has excellent suction. It is equal to or beats VAX for quality in many areas. To compare this to an upright hoover is a bit unfair, as it is small and compact. It is my third compact vacuum and it is my first AEG compact vacuum and I am very impressed. At the price of 139.99, I think this product offers outstanding suction, but with only a 2-year warranty I would be somewhat hesitant to buy this. OK, AEG is regarded as a good brand, but they do break down. So think about extending the warranty if you buy this item.
I am happy to Highly Recommend this unit, I just wish it had a better guarantee.
This is a very power small vacuum cleaner which is compact and lightweight so great for all around the house, especially the stairs. The suction is adjustable depending on what you are cleaning. It has quite a few tools go different jobs and packs away neatly. On balance I’d probably prefer a bag less version if one was available with this is a good little cleaner that gets the job done well.
The putting together of the vacuum cleaner was straight-forward and easy. In usage the vacuum cleaner is noted as having a highly powerful suction action . In operation this is very quite and I was surprised by the low noise level this produces which in action . The vacuum cleaner requires bags which can be sealed and disposed of and new one fitted. Its light weight and very easily manoeuvrable. I did note the 6M chord length, which is probably standard. Practical usage and overall manoeuvrability is very good. The power setting is adjustable and is seen as a digital value on the vacuum cleaner. Overall I am pleased with the functionality and reasonable quality build of the vacuum cleaner.
Good points:
+ very quiet
+ powerful
+ power can be turned up on a dial rather than via a switch
+ small and portable
+ long power cord
+ easy to use design
+ good quality washable filters
Negatives:
– uses a bag
– plastic body feels a bit fragile for years of use
For the money this is an excellent vacuum cleaner with very impressive suction power. I’m not happy with it using a bag – this seems like a backwards step when so many have bagless designs now; it’s a bit like finding that a device needs batteries.
Overall, despite the need for a bag, this is a really good vac, and at the price it offers very good value.
As a side note – the English instructions are on the last page of the manual, which is unusual. Could this have anything to do with Brexit I wonder?
The combination of powerful suction and low noise is quite something to observe, even ratcheted up to the highest suction, this barely hums and is suitable for even the most noise conscious individual/difficult domestic situations, such as thin walls between neighbours, without needing to compromise on ability to clean.
On the highest suction, I could not move this on a carpet or rug, it firmly fixed in place and I had to reduce suction for use. It therefore manages to remove a lot of dust and dirt from your floor with minimal user effort (once you have got the suction at a level where you can physically move the thing).
The bag is already fitted on arrival so you just need to assemble the hose to floor tool; easy enough but I found the hose connection to the metal extension tube a sloppy fit that had a tendency to work loose. Build quality of the main body of the vacuum as well as some of the smaller tools was also disappointing and I am not sure how long these will last overall. The power lead is very long and you will probably be able to clean most of your rooms without needing to unplug and fit to another socket, however that appears to come at the expense of thickness of the lead, which is very thin, but does store neatly away in the main body of the vacuum once you are done. Watch out for the brush switch on the floor tool as I found that meant the tool got jammed accidentally under a low piece of furniture and was difficult to extract.
Storage is good, with the power lead contracting back inside and the main body stands upright, so is not a space-hungry device.
Overall, this is a powerful vacuum cleaner with adjustable suction (just as well…) that will make cleaning your home relatively easy. The body and some of the tools feel a little flimsy and only time will tell if that is an issue, although the hose connection to the tube is less solid than I would ideally like. I like it enough to consider it worthy of four stars and will update in the comments if anything changes.
