Both my husband and I have owned Aftershokz Air headsets since 2018. We use them for running outside. It’s so awesome to be able to hear everything around you and listen to whatever you want on your phone or garmin, whatever you connect to. Everyone I’ve recommended them to loves them. They are awesome if you want open ear technology, and even work great when you plug your ears. I purchased these for work since talk on the phone a lot. You can use the regular Aftershoks for the phone, but I needed something more professional with a mic to ensure the person on the other end could hear me clearly and they did not disappoint. This OpenComm is very comfortable with great audio on both the user and recipient end. Very easy to set up and use. I also like the larger & orange on/off and volume buttons on this version. Our older Aftershocks Air versions of the regular headset blend in and are flush with the headset.

Full disclosure, early on we had a couple pairs of Aftershokz AIr that failed during the warranty period but we use them every day. They were registered as required under warranty and Afterhokz replaced them without hassle so make sure you register your product. With that said, I love this product so much that I would buy them again and again anyways! I also think this open ear technology is great for kids to use.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersSo I normally don’t do a review so early, only two days of use. but this set up is so amazing.
First, I wear both eye glasses, and hearing aids. And these fit, and work fine with both. (See photos.) I should add I am 6’5, big man. A smaller person may find this to be a lot of hardware on your ear. That is glasses, hearing aids and Aftershokz. But it does not feel heavy or bulky. Second, I work in construction. Spend my day around rock crushers, and operating Caterpillar equipment. very noisy environment around 70db sound exposer most of the day. Ear plugs all day, and hearing aids when off work. With just two days use, I can wear my earplugs, and hear/use the phone and play music. In the past, music is not an option. I tried another bluetooth that advertised hearing protection and found it to be lacking in all areas. With Aftershokz I have found that I have the hearing protection from my ear plugs. And phone and music volume is set at no more that 50%. A bit less actually. Normally phone is at 100% volume. Now phone speaker is turned down to no more than 50%. Noise canceling mic is proving to be great too. I am used to speaking very loud when on the phone, and still getting complaints about background noise. With aftershokz, I am being told to stop screaming. lol. speak normal in a 70db environment and I am being heard fine. Amazing that I can block the harmful sounds with ear plugs, and the bone conductive headset comes in so clear. My only complaint is that the power cord to recharge is a bit short. Have not looked yet to see if a longer cord is available. But I am dealing with that ok.

Eye glass/ hearing aid/ noisy environment compatible

Was ich damit sagen will…?

These are FANTASTIC. I have another set of Aftershokz, the Trekz Air. I have gone through headset after headset trying to get a pair that worked reliably for voice calls for my home office due to the COVID work-from-home situations. It’s been a real pain. My Trekz Air were my go-to, they always worked when nothing else did. I have had a number of other wireless headphones but either my coworkers couldn’t hear me or I couldn’t hear them.

So when it came time to buy another set because I have a moonlighting job and I don’t want to continually disconnect and reconnect, I agonized over it and eventually just decided to stick with what worked. I just bought the OpenComm version.

OH MY GOSH. These are SO MUCH BETTER. My coworkers are telling me that my voice comes through crisp and clean without static or background noise. I LOVE THEM.

Someone else complained that there’s a custom charging cord. Welcome to 2021, charging devices shouldn’t use USB-C just because having something that plugs in is how things are done. I applaud the magnetic charger because if I accidentally grab the headphones when they’re charging, it just drops off instead of bending the charging port or the cable. So give your plug-in non-magnetic cables a kick back to the past. I don’t think it will be long before the inserted cable is gone, and good riddance!

Fantastic, Aftershokz, you won me over again. I’ve helped sell two of my coworkers and my nephew on pairs as well.

Really excellent bit of kit for Zoom and Teams. It also works with Dragon. On high volume it does tickle the temples but I can live with that as it is unobtrusive and has a good battery. Frustrating bleep when muted tho.

Like everyone has likely said… they’re not studio monitor headphones, but you don’t notice it. I think there’s a bit of brain compensation that makes it sound better over time.

Incredibly long battery. For someone who gets a headache from almost any type of head gear, I think it says something that I forget I’m wearing these.
Good functionality on the buttons. Can do quite a bit if you can remember the click patterns/conditions needed.

I bought these because I bought some for my wife to bike with and was very impressed.
I watch our child all day and she’s very demanding at this age. I couldn’t do anything. With these headphones. I can hear what my daughter is getting into and listen to an ebook or some music etc. unless I have it cranked I can hear and understand her.

Some less than thoughtful people complain about the proprietary charging cord. I checked around and I haven’t found any non proprietary waterproof couplings. It kicks the crap out of mini/micro usb and is better than usb c.
Really convenient but for the limited and rather pricy cord availability. That said, unlike us can or other forms, this one won’t wear out. I don’t understand why all cords aren’t magnetic now. After my old intel duo MacBook came with a magnetic cable I thought everything would… never happened. Glad this did.

I’m gonna start by saying that I very rarely leave reviews, but this product has stirred a desire to do so as it is absolutely deserving beyond any other product I have bought in years. Why? Because it is a truly superb product; the sound quality is genuinely stunning given the size of the hardware. Of course there isn’t much in the way of bass, but you shouldn’t expect it given the hardware, but it’s there and so are the trebles, and the sound quality is clear throughout. The microphone is crystal clear, the noise suppression is extremely effective. How effective? I just got back from a drive in my car with the roof down at 70 mph and at that speed with the wind howling past my ears, my wife reported perfect clarity during our call. The fit and finish of this product is top notch. It is lightweight and comfortable enough that I have forgotten it is on my head for a few minutes and looked for it before realizing it is on my head. The band effortlessly shapes to my head with only enough pressure to hold in place but not enough to rub or pinch. I am able to pair it to both my personal and work phones simultaneously, which allows to me take a call from a friend and then from a colleague without ever removing either phone from my pocket. The packaging and case are very high quality and the way the headset fits into the soft case is extremely satisfying indeed (you’ll see what I mean). The charger is very small but the magnetic coupling is highly intuitive and a literal snap to attach. Battery life so far has been exactly as advertised, I have no need to bring the charger with me for a 12 hour day away from the house, with no low battery anxiety. Final word: In a world of either overpriced or under built products, this is a true gem. By which I mean it is worth every freaking penny of $160 and I have no regrets whatsoever. 11/10 would highly recommend. Buy it now! *Hot tip* put earplugs in so you can hear music/calls clearly but not background noise.

These are extremely comfortable and work great for listening to music or being on a call, not both. The Stereo audio setting on the headset has great audio while giving you the ability to be aware of your surroundings and the boom mic does a great with noise canceling and voice pickup (so I’m told from co-workers). It can only pair with one device at a time and doesn’t auto switch to previously paired devices. This device (like most Bluetooth headsets, I am finding out) suffers from the limitation of not being able to stream Stereo audio and use the mic at the same time. Most of the work calls I’m on have a lot of dead air and I like to listen to music in the background, but you have to rig it on the computer to play correctly when the mic is in use, and the audio is really bad and low quality. It could also use a dedicated mute button or switch, since rotating the mic doesn’t shut off the mic.
Overall still a great headset, it works great for connecting to phone where you want to listen to music or be on a call and it is extremly comfortable having a cool open ear experience without painful buds and being able to listen to my surroundings. Computer pairing where you would want both, like gaming or long quite calls is not ideal.

I bought these to have a better microphone for teaching online. For that, I’d say mission accomplished, as my listeners like the sound on their end. But because I have been using Aftershokz Air headsets for a couple of years, I was struck that the OpenComms are not as likable as those. The Air is of course lighter, and I can easily wear them for hours even with glasses. With the OpenComm, an hour with them over my ears and I’m ready to have them off of me. The Airs also seem to have slightly better sound quality and to switch pairing between my Android phone and various computers/laptops more easily. With the OpenComm, the only solution seems to be to shut the unit down completely and then restart in pairing mode to get it to drop one device and pair with another. Thats about a 10 sec process – so it’s not terrible, but mildy annoying when you are used to the same company giving a seamless transition with an earlier device. Finally, I agree that the 2-button mute trick and custom charging plug are both just silly.

All-in-all, this is a fine bone-conduction device with a nice noise-canceling microphone. I use it regularly when I have to speak a lot for teleconferencing and teaching online. But for listening I definitely prefer the Aftershokz Air headset.

I used to wear work-supplied headsets. Cheap. Lousy. Break quickly. I decided to replace them with my Beats Solo HD. They worked fine for about 2 years then, the right-earpiece stopped working but I kept using them, begrudgingly. I bought new Beats Solo Pro Wireless with the knowledge that I can use them wired or wireless. Come to find out I had to buy a $35 Apple cable just to use them and had to get an extension cable that fortunately worked… Because only the Apple adapter-cable worked. The Beats were so tight and the Transparency Mode was sub -par. I was advised about the AfterShokz OpenComm Wireless by a co-worker. I reviewed them and thought this is good. I bought them. What a difference! I can truly hear everything around me and fully-hear my calls, my music, my podcasts, whatever at the same time. The sound quality is sufficient for what I NEED but it would be great if it was better but for how absolutely comfortable they are to wear and work perfectly otherwise… I now use them with my cel. My wife doesn’t have to scream out to me or get frustrated anymore. I hear her clearly when these are on AND when I am listening to something. Just perfect, for me! I will be using these for much more than working on my computers. No more losing Pods, Buds, struggling to hear through headphones. Wow. Best purchase I’ve made for a headset ever. Audiophile-grade? No. Office/podcast/YouTubing… Great.

I spend a lot of time on voice calls, and I can’t fault the build or sound quality, but I have to say that I find the headset quite uncomfortable after an hour or so, as it feels tight on my temples, and I get hot where it touches.

Took a few minutes and a quick google to work out how to wear them… but they are so comfortable! I wear a headset for 8 hours a day and was getting awful headaches!! So far so good… If you have them too loud it vibrates which is weird but also a good indicator that they are probablly too loud! Some one said they have no volume control but you just adjust the sound on your device… really pleased with them!

When schools and colleges reopened before Easter, we were teaching in-person in the morning and online in the afternoon. Some students were still shielding. Not a huge problem. I shared my screen to demo tasks. They could join online and watch. Problem is, if I but as I moved away from the desk, I couldn’t see if I was needed on line. With this, I can hear them and the class as a whole. You’re aware of your surroundings all the time.

I also use these when I’m making screen recordings. No keyboard tapping or mouse scraping!

They’re easy to pair, and they connect to the last device they connected to. No multipoint, so you have to disconnect from one device and then connect to another.

I will start by saying I have had to return these because they weren’t compatible with MSFT Teams, which was my primary reason for purchasing.
That aside, I did manage to have a day of trialling them in different use cases – YouTube videos were crystal clear, so were voice calls on my mobile.
Really comfortable, not adjustable but it didn’t matter, very easy to set up/connect too.
I would recommend these as a set of bone conductor headphones

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis was a purchase in a sea of confusion, alternating choices, buzzwords, advancing technology (it always does), and your wallet. My wallet was in better shape than normal, and yet – considering the ‘all in’ mentality here, I was expecting very little. Let me explain.

This purchase represents a combination of three things: business need (I’m on the phone, pacing, 4-8 hours a day, period; in the car, in a home office, walking outside – it all applies, yes, yes, yes). I’m a power talker, and I talk, listen, dial. In between, I do also like to listen to music.

But, I know what folks want – and it’s details you seek, details you shall receive. THE DEETS ON MUSIK!!!1!!

It is good. Really, really good. For a bone conduction system. Let’s review the non-sciencey-parts: (a) it’s not an ‘in ear’ headphone. This means, for all practical purposes, no physical part of this headphone system SITS IN YOUR EAR CANAL – defined: the part of the ear that looks like a hole going into your ear. Please use your logical scale of reasoning and understand that – ear canal, means many things to many people. In my case, it does not block sound like an ‘in ear’ headphone would – and thus, it simply prevents you from blocking the ear by placing the ‘sound apparatus’ outside the edge of the ear, forwards from the ear hole (canal), resting on the edge of the ear flap and close to the skull. The are not PLUGS, and don’t cover the ear canal – end of story.

And they sound GREAT considering what you’re dealing with here. You’ll get it once you consider:

    (a) how EXTREMELY light these units are – it’s like the first time I put on a good VR headset – the similar sensation that you don’t really feel it as the experience is so much more than the earphones – yet you really cannot feel these on your head even after 2 hours I was literally wondering where I’d put them – then I reached up and felt them on the back of my head;

    (b) how insanely long the battery lasts;

    (c) how fantastically well the audio microphone picks up the sound of your voice, your soundfield, and crisply and without great amounts of distortion transmits that to the call;

    (d) how much distance you literally can walk with these away from your phone (only tested, want to now test strong computer bluetooth chipset) before even noticing any distortion;

    (e) how well and expertly tuned the design is, including the switch layout (there are 3 [three] physical buttons) – and the forethought in the function and form of the buttons;

    (f) the solid and dependable build quality – these have been in my hand since I unwrapped them, and I’ve not thought about another pair for multiple use cases since then.

Did I mention – they’re water resistance is amazingly potent – and yet I haven’t even tested this? I can only imagine getting on my elliptical with a good conference call going and 45 minutes later, having NO issues with call quality as the physics of the sound game are NOT that affected by this use case. Fantastic!

    Would I – YES – recommend them?
Would I – YES – buy them again?
Would I – YES – but other AfterShockz products?

Please – run, DONT WALK, and buy a pair of these before you wish you had.

These hit the 3 tantric areas of audio capabilities: audio fidelity in both music and calling; multi-environment function; function AND form blending to create exceptional value.

Screw b3@ts. These beat the value of that crap line hands down.

Golden Review Award: 52 From Our UsersThis is my first experience with bone conduction, and I’m glad i took the plunge. I had some questions going into this that I think others may have, so in no particular order:

    1) They aren’t silent to others around you. In fact, they’re quite audible – akin to open back headphones or non-sealed IEMs like Yuin PK1s or original Apple earbuds. I think these are great when you’re alone or outdoors, but I wouldn’t use these in a shared office or in an airport lounge unless you keep the volume low to avoid disturbing others
    2) Very comfortable and plays nicely with glasses. Can easily wear these all day
    3) Mic quality is good for a Bluetooth headset, but beware you’re still limited in terms of audio bandwidth like any other Bluetooth headset. This means your voice will be understandable but phone-like, as opposed to wired USB headsets that can sound more natural
    4) Lip sync with video is acceptable. It doesn’t support low-lag protocols like AptX, and you can tell, but it’s better than most Bluetooth headphones and headsets I’ve tried
    5) As far as I can tell, it doesn’t support multi-device pairing, however it’s easy enough to re-sync with different devices
    6) Music quality is acceptable. In fact it was better than I was expecting, maybe approaching the aforementioned Yuin PK1s. This translates to: biased towards mid range, with minimal bass, but still clear and not muddy.

Overall, I like these. You can comfortably wear these for all-day conference calls without the sweaty, sore ears associated with traditional earbuds or headsets.

A great pair of headphones. The concept behind AfterShokz bone conduction is excellent – instead of sticking something in your ear or over your ear, leave your ears open to the elements and hear through bone conduction.
This means that you can still hear sounds around you. Personally, I find that shutting out sound is disorienting, so I use AfterShokz a lot (I have a running pair without the boom microphone, and this pair for use in the office) and i don’t feel disoriented. However some people may want to block out the world in order to immerse themselves in music, and the open feature of these headphones means that they don’t do this.

This product works well except that you cannot adjust the volume during a Teams call from the headset, you have to fumble around and find the device settings within the Teams call screen. For 150, and advertised as perfect for all-day office working, I would have expected the volume buttons on the headset to work for calls as well as listening to music when I’m not working. And it took three emails from the support team before they admitted to that. Be prepared to have your ears blasted if you have a loud-speaking colleague.

A couple years back I picked up a really good gaming headset for the occasional video conference working from home. After the pandemic hit, more of the days are spent on video conference meetings since we’re not in the office where 2 or 3 people could meet in a conference room or at a desk. After a year of days getting longer I found myself having a lot of headaches from how tight and not very adjustable the expensive gaming headset was. The mic was great, the sound quality excellent but the comfort for hours just wasn’t doing it.

I picked up this headset to replace it and it was a little weird at first but not having something clamped over the top of my head and being able to hear both the video conference and things going on in the house is great. The best part is no more headaches after 6+ hours using it. The sound quality is great for meetings but it’s not so great for video or music. The microphone works well. The only thing I really don’t like is it doesn’t have a mute button on it like the old headset, was helpful for larger meetings when leaning back watching a presentation and not having to lean forward and fiddle around to hit the mute button with a mouse. If they added that to the multifunction button it would have been perfect.

These really were a game changer for me, working from home for the last year has meant a quick chat has now turned into a 30 minute meeting. I now spend most of the day on the phone at the moment. These are light weight and the battery seems to last all day. Because they are not in or over your ear you don’t get the same sweaty ears after a long meeting and I almost forget I’m wearing them, range is very good as well (able to make a cup of tea while in a meeting is fabulous multi tasking)

    Love these

Sound quality is excellent and the look is great, however, it doesn’t feel wholly natural the way it sits. All in all its not a bad set up, the price is probably hard to swallow for most and I’ve used other units at a fraction of the cost that are almost as good, but the sound quality and mic quality are probably worth paying that extra few quid for. It’s a high 3 stars pushing a 4

I bought these to use as my all day headphones for calls, meetings and general media listening. The reviews I read raved about the clarity of the microphone, but I have found it to be disappointing. Most of the people on the other end of the call/meeting say my audio is coming in quiet and tinny. This is a disappointment.

Noise cancellation is only effective for the microphone for obvious reasons, but it seems to work well with no one on a call complaining about background noise.

Aside from that, the audio quality when listening is what you would expect from bone conducting, meaning that that it is legible and clear but is not for listening to music. Loud volumes causes a vibration that is almost a tickle in your ears, which is odd.

Battery life has been great, allowing me to use them all day, and they are certainly comfortable enough to use all day as well. Being able to pair with multiple devices is a huge plus, although the volume control is often lost when switching between devices causing me to have to power off and on the headset to get volume control back on the headset.

All in all they are a good headset, and they certainly work, but they are not stellar, particularly for the cost. If you value microphone quality you might want to look elsewhere, but for all day wearing and general listening they are quite adequate.

Having had a poor experience with the new jabra evolve2 design I was looking for a new headset that I could wear for several hours and not worry about batter life and had a microphone with noise isolation. One week in and I’m very impressed the sound quality is great and no ear fatigue and my voice comes through well and naturally.

I have this connected with phone and m1 mac mini and all works well.

I’ve been working from home for the last eight years, and I have cycled through low quality, overpriced Logitech head sets roughly every two years. It was time for a replacement and I wanted to try something different for a change.

These headsets immediately caught my attention due to their unique technology. I’m on web meetings at least a quarter of my workday, and traditionally headsets are physically uncomfortable. Earbuds are painful, and pretty much any over the ear headsets also have their toll on me.

When I read the description, I was skeptical that about the audio quality. But to my delight, the very first time I used them my colleague sent me an instant message, asking if I had some something different with my audio. He said I sounded “crystal clear, podcast quality”, and of course I was blown away by the audio I could hear.

I read some complaints about the over the hear part being a little uncomfortable, and I could relate. But I also wear glasses, so I think I will adjust fairly quickly. I do have to admit that the first time I took them out of the box, I was shocked how small the where, and was thinking to myself “how on earth will these fit on my large dumb head.” But they slid on perfectly.

My only complaints are that they don’t offer a right sided microphone model, and that the mic only pivots counter clockwise instead of omni-directional. But these are minor (very minor) issues that I can overlook.

After almost a month of daily use, I can say for sure that I love this headset. This product has improved my life immensely! It’s easy to pair with my devices. It’s comfortable and works with my glasses. It leaves my ears open the way I like them AND people remark at the clarity of the mic. I have long hair and it does take me a minute to get things arranged, but it is not hard to accomplish. I love the different sense of sound that these earpieces give. I think it’s more like being in the room with the person talking, when you’re on a zoom call. For music, it’s more like listening on speakers. I like the feel of the sound vibrations, when I notice. Adjustments to sound volume are easily made by touch. Admittedly, I don’t switch between using these between two devices, so I can’t comment on that. The mic swings out of the way, if you like, but it’s not much in the way. I suppose it would be good if it muted when you swung the boom up, but this barely seems like a flaw to me. I wear these all day and they are really much more comfortable than any earphones I have ever worn. If I lean back against a chair or pillow, I just adjust where the band sits to a position that feels good. The battery lasts all day and the recharging is easy. This headset seems just about perfect.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI often spend 8 hour days on calls, with only short breaks periodically.

This headset has transformed my experience compared to over-ear over-the-head headphones:

    * Sound quality superb for voice, and perfectly great for light music
    * Battery lasts all day, I charge overnight and haven’t yet had any issues by the end of the day
    * They’re so lightweight that you forget you’re wearing them
    * If volume is too high, you get some unpleasant vibration which is a good reminder to turn down to a sensible volume.
    * They leave your ears open to local sound (I actually put in normal earbud headphones if I want to block out background sometimes) which means you can have conversations without having to remove the headset.

Thoroughly recommended for anyone spending their life on work calls!

Only minor downside is the magnetic charging port, it works well, but the cable is short, and it would be nice to have a more standard charging option for more flexibility.

These are excellent, durable, barely-noticeable, remarkably comfortable headphones that can be worn all day long. Yes, as expected, they lack some of the bass people are accustomed to with in-ear, over-ear or on-ear solutions; but they still do surprisingly well with music. But they are not designed to deliver deep thumping music rendering you unaware of the audio environment around you.

I read the speakers on the Open Comm headsets are audio-tuned to optimize the sound of human voices. Similarly, the noise-cancelling microphone boom array is calibrated to convey your voice without distracting background noise to whoever’s on the other end of the line. They accomplish both of these tasks extremely well. Whether driving in the car, running water while washing dishes or out walking in a light wind, every person I’ve spoken to has commented on how clear my voice is and how little background noise there is when using them.

My one huge gripe is with the voice assistant integration. I’ve used many headsets and they always provide audio feedback of some sort (be it a beep or a voice) to let you know that your long-press has successfully reached your phone so you can release the button and deliver your command. With these you get no audio feedback AT ALL. You must press and hold the multifunction button while counting to three and hope that you’ve pressed it long enough. It appears the designers/programmers expected users to be looking at their phones when they carry out the long-press function which then will provide visual feedback when it’s time to issue a vocal command. For people who’s phones are in their pockets or other rooms and users who are blind it’s a complete guessing game. This is a ridiculous design error. I wonder if there’s any method or possibility for firmware updates on these. Aside from this one pretty huge flaw on a product touting its communication prowess, they are really very good,.

My ratings without being forced to round up or down:
VOICE ASSISTANT INTEGRATION – 2 Stars
    DURABILITY – 4.5 Stars
    BATTERY LIFE – 5 Stars
    NOISE CANCELLATION – 4.5 Stars
    SOUND QUALITY – 4.25 Stars
    COMFORT – 4.8 Stars

I wanted something that allowed me to listen to music/ podcasts while running but also acted as headset for Zoom calls. AfterShokx have been amazing. Quality of sound is brilliant through bone conduction and not having anything stuck in or over your ears make wearing them a pleasure.
I plan to buy more for work, cycling etc. They truly are superb.
Having a sense of your surroundings and being able to hear people when they talk is amazing.
If you want to block out the world then they are not for you. If you want listen to music and still hear the birds sing then give them a try.
I am a truly astonished on how good these headphones are.
Best thing I purchased in Lockdown by a mile

I wear hearing aids and using a bone induction headphone is better than streaming music and phone calls to my hearing aids. Why? Hearing aids are designed to focus on speech only and the frequency response of bone induction headphones is a wider spectrum (hearing aids – 16Hz to 16Mhz Bone Induction Headphones – 20Hz to 20Mhz). You’ll hear more than hearing aids, but not exactly as much as conventional in ear or over the ear headphones.

I used earlier models of bone induction headphones and not having a boom mike does not allow you to have your speech picked up for phone calls. It’s very faint and subject to background noise. The boom mike eliminates this problem.

This headset can be multi-point connected to two devices. I use a separate Android based music player from my regular Android smart phone. When both are connected I can be listening to music and when a phone call comes in the headphone will pause the music and answer the call by pushing the answer button on the headphone.

What is tricky with pairing two devices to a single headphone is to be aware that you set the properties in the bluetooth settings on each device. The music player properties should be set as “media” only and the phone and contacts properties should not be selected. The opposite needs to be set for the smart phone, the properties should be set to be only phone calls and contacts, but not media.

When pairing multiple devices to the headphone it is best to make sure that no other bluetooth devices are actively connected to the headphones since this causes problems during the pairing process.

What could be a nice addition to this headphone is enunciating the phone number of the phone call. This allows you to screen the calls and use the send to voice mail function so you can go back to listening to your music.

When the phone call ends the music picks up playing right where it left off (provided your music player supports this functionality).

The headphone is very light and you’ll forget you’re wearing it.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersUnobtrusive, lightweight, amazing battery life. Got this for my Macbook Air because other people have flaky audio and can be difficult to hear. This gives me good sound and the dinky boom mike has great pickup, stops me shouting at my laptop. Sound quality is good, excellent for voices, as long as you remember bone conduction works over a limited frequency range – no real bass as such, limited highs, but a warm open sound in the spoken voice range from most sources. If there’s music on a podcast it doesn’t sound weird. I can wear it all day without noticing it’s there, and I don’t look too much of a geek wearing it – headphones of course would give a better tonal range but are a bit too techy for a business call. This kind of a hidden gem – doesn’t get mentioned often compared to its Aeropex sibling with very similar sound quality, but you get the boom mike and the long battery life for a similar price.

    – UPDATE: Bluetooth multi-point is supported. Check for the chat in the Opencomm site, and it will redirect you to a video with instructions.

I’ve tried gamer headsets, Jabra headsets, consumer Bose/Sony headphones, and this one is the one I’ve been the happiest with. Just a few things missing for it to be perfect:

    Important:
    – Dedicated mute button: Muting/unmuting it with the combination of volume buttons is slow and uncomfortable. With a dedicated button or rotating up/down the boom mic as with the Jabra Evolve2 65, that’d be amazing. Also, the beeping when muted is too loud and not really necessary.

    Nice to have:
    – USB-C: for both charghing and/or using when in charging. What if the charging cable gets damaged or lost? Also using it via cable would be comfortable when in low battery and we want to fast charge.
    – Smaller case: The hard case is beautiful and a great way to protect the headset while traveling, but given the small size of the actual headset, the case could be much smaller.
    – Detachable boom mic: This way it could be used as a sports headset as well.
    – Include silicone earplugs for when we want to be half/completely isolated.

Note: I don’t use this for listening to music nor working out. This is my headset for calls and videocalls in the computer or mobile device. For calling it’s perfect! the noise cancelling mic is really outstanding, at the same level of the Jabra boom mics.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersOverall good quality. Very lightweight and comfortable (normal headphones often give me a headache or make my ears hurt, particularly when wearing my glasses). Microphone quality is generally good, Zoom calls etc. have been fine and they work quite well with Dragon dictation, better than my previous plantronics wired headset. Two frustrations – 1) lack of an easy way to mute (have to press two buttons at once and hold them, doesn’t seem to work and is very fiddly), and 2) the proprietary charger is nice in that it’s magnetic, but annoying to have another random cable

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our Users+ Easy setup, came charged so ready for use.

+ Hands down the best noise cancelling headset I’ve tried so perfect for the job.

+ Can move the boom back to use for running etc also.

    + seemingly good build quality

    – Comfy to wear, however I’m pretty sure it makes me dizzy/off balance somehow..

    – Nice carry case, however a bit on the large side..

    – Proprietary charging lead

    – Sound quality for music is poor in comparison to an in/on ear headphone, but those are the limits of this technology, however worth the trade off for something that can be worn all day and leave the ears open.

    – They do give you a headache.

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersBought this product mostly for video conference calls so that I don’t have things in or on my ears all day, which I find uncomfortable, or I get too hot for on ear headphones. I started with a much cheaper pair, somewhere in the region of 5 times cheaper and they do a very similar job, but I needed a boom mic to make my speech clearer, and this was the only kit that met my needs, so I begrudgingly paid the premium.
Comparing this product with the cheaper pair (Tayogo S2), firstly the functionality is nearly identical, and for the price difference this feels painful. The Tayogo uses standard micro USB charging port, wherease this product has a proprietary connection, which I don’t like, it would have been better to use a standard charging connector.
Sound quality wise, the AfterShokz just edges out the Tayogo with more concentrated bone conduction points and less tinny sound in the treble, you also get a little less vibration for base because of the more focused bone conduction points. Both units allow you to be connected to two devices, which is massively useful for PC and phone dual connectivity, makes your working day so much easier.
The use of multi-function buttons applies to both devices, however the Tayogo has a dedicated power button, which the AfterShokz does not, this probably allows the product to be smaller, however, by turning off with the volume button, you inevitably adjust the volume before the product turns off, which is a minor frustration.
The boom mic on the AfterShokz picks up your voice better than some of the other bone conducting headsets using ambient mics to get your voice, the boom does filter out some of the background noise, which is what I was looking for.
Overall, great product, but a little on the pricey side, I’d suggest a better price point would be half what I paid for it.

A friend recommended them as the best headphones ever and I’ve bought 3 since then. Excellent sound quality, comfortable to wear, good range and battery lasts a long time. Hubby wears these all day because he spends a lot of time on the phone, then switches to another pair for the evening to watch Netflix. What I like is I can’t hear what he’s listening to even though he’s sitting next to me yet he can still hear when I’m asking him something because they don’t cut off sounds around him. My son-in-law likes that he can listen to music while supervising my grandson in a playground and still hear what the kids are saying. They don’t cut off the world around you while you’re listening to music, watching a movie or having a phone conversation. Brilliant.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe bone-conduction transducers allow unobstructed hearing with all-day comfort and mobility.
Sound quality is surprisingly good for music, though the bass and overall volume is a little weak. Not recommended for rock or metal but just fine for jazz or easy listening, though this is really a communications headset.
Microphone noise cancelling is nothing short of amazing, though the bass rolls off a bit, making your voice slightly tinny compared to a studio microphone.
The mute function is problematic, you can’t just flip up the microphone, you have to hold two buttons down simultaneously (and if you hold only one down, the unit switches off). But the biggest issue with mute is that it gives you a reminder tone every 10 seconds and it’s not a little ping; it’s two loud one-second beeps that interrupt the audio, making it unsuitable for Zoom or Teams meetings (you can mute/unmute on your phone screen and not get the tone).
Can be worn with glasses and a face mask. You can put on a mask without removing the headphones but you must maneuver the strap around the boom.

Enjoyed using this device as it doesn’t cause my ear to “burn” due to excessive usage; nor cause great discomfort. bear in mind it’s a different technology but for regular audio it’s great.

you can still hear whats going on around you, even though they are bone conducting there is some reduction hearing those around you but can still participate. lightweight and fast charging, can pair more than one item at a time

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersThese are great, I suffer 5-8 hours of video calls daily and using normal headphones was giving me headaches, using the Mac’s built in mic/speaker gave degraded audio. You can wear these all day and basically not notice them, sound quality is good recipients are happy with the mic. I know many moan about the non standard charger but I suspect using USB C would have increased the size of the headset as the magnetic charger is almost completely external. All in all to those in WFH video call hell, I recommend these, they are expensive but they do help.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI have a drawer full of blue tooth headsets. Like many I now spend 8 to 10 hours a day on web conferences, and my cell phone. All of my collected devices either have batteries that can’t handle a full day, sound ok to me, but not to the person at the other end, don’t allow enough distance from my computer to wander around during a call, but mostly just aren’t comfortable enough to wear for hours and hours at a time.

Anything I’ve put in my ear, or over my ear eventually ends up as an irritant. While I haven’t used these for weeks yet, after just a few days I’ve found these to be the best device I’ve ever tried. I do wear glasses, but even 8 hours later these Opencom’s barely feel like they are there. The volume is plenty loud for me to hear those people at the other end of a Zoom that are soft or muffled, and anyone at the other end of my calls tells me that my voice is crystal clear. Wandering 30 to 40 feet to the kitchen or even the back yard doesn’t seem to interfere with the calls, decent range even compared to other bluetooth 5.0 devices I own.

I connect simultaneously to my laptop and my cell phone, so make good use of the multipoint feature, and the headset connects up to both reliably when I turn it on. (last bluetooth I had was finicky and it normally took a few tries, turning devices on and off to connect to both). Only complaint I have which has nothing to do with the aftershokz, and everything to do with the bluetooth protocal, is that the headsets will cut out from an active web conference session when the phone rings. A “beep” alert would be a better indicator, instead of silence. Again this is common to all the bluetooth devices I’ve used, and the OpenCom works exactly the same as all others.

I had never tried a bone conduction device before, but have tried pretty much everything else. These are amazing devices, highly recommend to anyone who spends hours on calls or web conferences.

    Update:
Have been wearing these now 10 hours a day 5 days a week for 4 months. These are so comfortable I barely know I”m still wearing them by evening. The slight inconvenience of cutting out for an incoming call when on a zoom meeting seems to have disappeared, maybe some setting changed, or an update resolved this. Battery life is still in excess of a day. Sound quality is excellent both listening and talking. These are amazing.

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersI use these while operating heavy equipment all day long. The battery easily lasts the day with high usage. you need to wear ear plugs in order to hear when there is significant background noise but while walking on the street you can her very well. The microphone is one of the best I have used, I can be standing next to a diesel engine running at 3/4 throttle and the caller can barely hear the engine while I continue on with conversation! Amazing!

Golden Review Award: 91 From Our UsersI did see a couple of YouTube video reviews + written reviews of this product before purchasing it; I recommend you do it too (like the EBPMan’s review).

I received this headset on 13-Nov-2020 (within 24 hours of ordering it). Since purchasing, I see that the price has dropped by $20 and 10 in the US and UK respectively.

My use case: 6-8 hours EVERY DAY of phone calls and office calls on Zoom, Teams, etc. For music, I have other headsets/earphones.

Bottom line: I thoroughly recommend this product.

    Pros:
    – Major plus point – Solves the ‘hot ears’/ear fatigue problem from wearing other headsets for extended periods (I also own and have extensively used the following – Jabra 85H, Sennheiser PXC550, Samsung Galaxy Buds+, Samsung Galaxy Buds Live, Jabra 75T and the Apple AirPods) — I wear this from around 9am and to around 5:45pm every weekday (and have done so for the last 3 weeks) and these are by far the most comfortable among all the earphones/headsets I currently own and have used in the past as well
    – The quality of the noise-canceling boom mic (for the listener on the other end) is apparently excellent basis the feedback I have received
    – The volume level is good (though very high volumes can make it vibrate a bit too much on your temples)
    – Very light + soft material used all around, so no plasticky bits / rough edges, etc. (seems well made)
    – Multi-pairing — simultaneously connects to 2 devices (for me, I have it connect to my phone + laptop)
    – Good range — I walk around and into other rooms of my flat (admittedly not too big) and I don’t lose connection
    – Since the ears are open, you don’t miss your kids calling or knocks on the door, etc. Especially for home wear, this is a must, I cannot afford to be in my own little cocoon for the whole day when others too are around.
    – Water/sweat resistant
    – Good battery life, as advertised

    Cons:
    – I don’t like the proprietary charging; I would have liked USB-C so that I don’t need to carry yet another cable around, and worry about losing it
    – The length of the charging cable is short, probably 24 inches; so it seems like it is meant to be charged by plugging into your laptop/PC rather than a wall socket
    – No Android/iOS app — this means no added controls or functionality through the app
    – No Android/iOS app — importantly, this means no firmware updates — for a ~$150 product (rivals have this) and from a fairly well-established company (not a newcomer), this is disappointing
    – Whenever I switch it on, it automatically connects to my phone first; to connect to my laptop, I have to manually go to the Bluetooth devices section of my laptop and click on ‘Connect’, not sure why (note: this problem does not occur if both the paired devices are phones/tablets, so this may be an issue with my laptop)
    – These may not be great for music given the bone conduction tech. So, look elsewhere if that’s your use case

Hopefully, I haven’t forgotten anything else. Like I’ve already mentioned, I recommend this product. If this was around the $99/99 mark, that would be an absolutely killer price. Even at the current price, I’d argue that these are a must given my use case since they directly address & SOLVE my problem.

    Hope you find this useful.

I’ve used a Titanium in the past so I have a fairly good idea on what the experience will be. I got the Opencomm for my work-from-home set up because I did not want to have an earbud stuck in my ears for hours on end. Overall it works and the audio is noticeably upgraded compared to the Titaniums; but depending on your set up, it may not be better than first-party combinations. Here is my experience with various platforms :

    Windows on a Thinkpad
The Opencomm worked beautifully when paired to my windows laptop.

    Mac
It got confused when I connected it to my mac with my ipad nearby (I think Apple syncs connected devices across everything that shares your Apple id). I had to disable the bluetooth on my ipad for it to stop freaking out. Also, while the audio was clear on my end, the other party could barely hear me. Everything was resolved the moment I switched to my Airpod pros.

    Android on Samsung
    It works great.

In a nutshell, since my primary work device is my Thinkpad, I’ll still be defaulting to the Opencomms but if you are on a mac, your mileage may vary. Perhaps more work is needed on the software side on platform compatibility and optimisation.

Quite surprised by how well these work. May not be the best for high quality music playback but for webmeeting, you can’t beat them. Small unit, can wear almost all day. looks good, and works very very well for voice conversation.

I got these for a family member who is a trucker, and they said these head phones sound the best from anything they used so far. Noise cancelling is good I can’t hear the truck when speaker my with them. Sound quality is good and clear. They plug them in once stopped for the night so no complains about battery life. They definitely recommend them these for truckers.

Vraiment j’adore.

Golden Review Award: 209 From Our UsersMichael C. Jackson’s review is comprehensive and I agree with him on all points, but since there aren’t a lot of reviews yet I just wanted to add one more positive vote for these. I’ve been looking for a headset like this for a long time and am so grateful to AfterShokz for producing them.

Everyone has different needs, so I’ll list what mine are and why these respond so well to them:

    * I work from home and am on a lot of conference calls or one-on-one calls throughout the day at various times. These pair immediately and solidly so that I don’t have to worry about my connection or wait for them to pair (I use a Mac, if that matters)
    * I don’t like things directly on or around my ears – they get hot & uncomfortable with pretty much anything on them. And I got an ear infection a few years ago from wearing true wireless earbuds so haven’t been thrilled about sticking things in my ears either. These AfterShokz are comfortable enough to wear all day, and the battery lasts well beyond a day so I put them on in the morning, have them on throughout the work day, and then charge them at night.
    * I like being able to hear the call clearly but also being able to hear what’s going on physically around me. These are stellar for that.

As soon as I got them, I tested the sound quality with a coworker and compared my iMac’s build-in microphone, my AirPod Pros, and the AfterShokz OpenComms. He said that there was no comparison – the OpenComms were clear and vivid, as if I were talking directly into the phone, and it was the best I’d ever sounded on calls.

I’ve used AfterShokz bone conduction headphones for years for running, hiking, or walking my dogs, so I’m used to the sound quality – I wouldn’t wear anything else for those purposes, and I was super stoked when I saw that AfterShokz had made a headset for calls and was really, really hoping that the boom mic would deliver, but they exceeded my expectations – my coworker, who is literally a professional audio engineer, said they sound great.

As others have noted, you don’t wear these expecting high-end audio on your end, although they do sound surprisingly good (and even better if you wear earplugs – they include a pair in the box), but for calls the sound of your callers’ voices comes through clear with no problems – I have zero difficulty making out what anyone’s saying and after about a week’s worth of use I don’t even think about it anymore – it just feels natural now.

If comfort, sound quality of your voice on your listener’s end, and reliability of connection matter to you, I can’t imagine anything beating these guys. It’s an absolute home run for me and has made my working life a heck of a lot easier.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersI have spent thousands of dollars over the years to find the right headset for business calls. These are fantastic so far (I have had them for a week)… comfortable even with my eye glasses on, clear sound receiving and no complaints from people I am speaking to thanks to the boom mic. They hold the bluetooth connection in places other headsets have not. I am so impressed with having a headset that is not covering my ears… love this technology!! I’m not giving it a 5 star as I have had them for only 1 week so I am not sure about durability, and I don’t like having a proprietary charging cable… I wish it was USB-C!
