RadonKeep your family safe from this radioactive, invisible gas that comes from the ground. It is the largest cause of lung cancer among non-smokers but can be managed with continuous monitoring. | Chemicals (Total VOCs)Total Volatile Organic Compounds are the total amount of toxins and chemicals emitted. They can cause short or long term health effects from minor eye, nose and throat irritations to liver and kidney damage. These gases come from everyday items in our homes such as cleaners and solvents, furniture and waxes. | Humidity & TempToo much or too little humidity can affect allergies and cold or flu symptoms greatly. When humidity levels are too high, mold and rot can occur. Low humidity levels cause static electricity, dry skin and hair, and increased susceptibility to colds and respiratory illness. Indoor temperatures can affect productivity, mood, comfort level and individual sleep patterns. | Mould RiskPreventing mould growth helps with asthma, allergies, sleep and overall health. But when you can see mould growing it’s too late. With mould risk indication you can take action to prevent mould before it starts and keep your family and valuables safe. |

Excellent, very easy to install even for a two left hand like me. I could not find a way to transfer the report to a computer, but maybe there is one. Despite this small detail, the product is worth buying and does its job nicely.
Quality products. Easy to install. Did all kind of tests: placing the unit beside chemicals and the unit displayed straight away. Very happy with them.
This is a 2 product review – Airthings 4200 House Kit and Fantech RN2 Radon Fan. I found out recently that someone I used to live with passed away from lung cancer. They never smoked, and so I was wondering what would cause someone who did not smoke to get lung cancer. From what I read, the number one cause is radon gas.
I moved into a home about 15 months ago, and when I did the home inspection, the radon levels in the test came back at 2.5 pCi/L. I was told anything under 3.0 was considered safe. The home had a passive radon system – PVC pipe embedded into the basement floor and vented out through the roof. No fan.
I like gadgets, and after some research came across the 2 unit Airthings 4200 House Kit. I read a review from someone who claimed the units were accurate and dependable, so decided to purchase. The package comes with a large unit, a smaller unit and a hub. We installed both units in the basement, to start. We installed the hub. The larger of the 2 units reads Radon, humidity and temperature. The smaller of the two units reads mold, vocs, humidity and temperature. I was surprised they both don’t give you all the same information, but I can live with that.
To my surprise, our radon levels read over 12. During a two week period, it varied between a range of 12-16.5 pCi/L. Well above what is considered safe. My first reaction was that I was skeptical the Airthing was working properly. How do we go from 2.5 (in the home inspection test) to 12-16.5? I contemplated returning it, but decided to look into a radon fan. Since I had most of what I needed in place, I thought that installing a fan into the existing passive system would improve radon removal. I did some research, and saw some good reviews on the Fantech RN2 Radon Fan. A few of the reviews discussed significant drops in radon within 48 hours. Some of the reviews had levels quite a bit lower than me (to start), so I was unsure whether a fan would get me into safe levels.
I had to make 2 trips to Lowes to get parts (mostly my fault), but for the most part, adding the fan to my existing pvc pipe was easy. Wiring up the fan was easy. Once I had all the proper parts, and wired up the fan, it took me about 20 minutes to install the fan into my existing pvc line and start it up.
Before I went to bed (6 hours after install), and using the Airthing sensor to monitor radon levels, the Radon levels started to drop. At the time I installed the fan, radon levels were 12.6. At 11:00 pm, it was 9.9. When I woke up in the morning, Radon levels were 5.9. By the time I went to bed on the second night, radon levels were down to 1.1. The total time from installation of the fan to bed time on the second night < 48 hours. This morning, my Radon levels are measuring 1.3. We moved the smaller Airthing Sensor and installed it upstairs. In the basement, the VOC levels were under 120, and mold was not detected. In our master bedroom, VOCs were 90 and mold was 0. During this test, we also noticed our humidity levels had dropped in the house. Our AprilAire whole home humidifer was flashing to replace the humdifer pad. We did, and by this morning, humidity levels had climbed from 22% to 34%. All in all, extremely pleased with both the Airthings 4200 House Kit and Fantech RN2 Radon Fan. I was skeptical about the Airthing radon measurements, but was glad I took it the extra step and installed the fan. We were also concerned about voc levels and whether we had a mold issue, and we don't. So As long as I monitor the Airthing levels on my smart phone, we can now rest that the air in our home is safe and we know what the numbers are.
I bought this to add a hun to my ever growing range of air things monitors. I use it to help monitor all my rooms and help me track other devices I have deployed. The accuracy of temp sensors seem good, at least it matches other sensors I have in the room. Would recommend getting the wave plus 2 as well and looking at integrating this into ifttt along with smart heating.
Seems to be working fine.
Setup was quick with the hub connected through Ethernet cable.
My only concern is that the devices, like many others these days, are tied to cloud service.
Smarte Lsung via Router Anbindung, klare Kaufempfehlung. Must have 2021.
I had an original AirThings Wave (one that is incompatible with the hub) and I found it annoying to use. With the hub, now your readings are always up to date when you check for them, because the hub looks after polling the devices and the app can just get current info from the hub. I deducted the star because the mini isn’t very useful, IMHO. I ended up spending a lot more money to get a Wave Plus which includes radon as well as CO2 and VOCs. For a bungalow, with a basement, I wanted radon readings on both levels, and the mini doesn’t provide that–a better kit would be a hub and a wave and a wave plus.
adon , VOC and Mold are working with hub, so I can monitor them any where. They are good for your smart home.
The jury is still out on whether these devices are going to ease my mind or make me more insecure.
I do like that the radon detector tells me I don’t have a radon problem. I literally have part of a rock ledge in my basement so that is a comfort.
It irritates me when it tells me that “Brr, it’s cold in the living room”. There doesn’t seem to be a “my wife thinks anything above sixty three degrees Fahrenheit is a sauna” adjustment option. It would be really nice if I could tweak the ranges of acceptable temperature/humidity.
I’m a bit concerned at the average numbers of volatile organic chemicals it reports in our bedroom, but I am also concerned at how much two adults and two fairly large dogs in the same room with the windows closed and the door barely open might be contributing to said VOCs.
I guess I like being able to monitor conditions in the house at all times. If I’m not home and the temperature goes up by a few hundred degrees I’ll know to call the fire brigade.
Excellent bit of kit. Although had I known then what I know now I would have preferred buying two Wave Mini. At least I know there’s no Radon in my house. I’m in the process of buying two more Mini sensors.
Product provides all details to monitor air quality in our home
I wish each unit test the same fields.
The mini can check for mold but not for Radon gas
The big unit can check for Radon but not for Mold.
And it will be great if one of both check for CO2.
Anyway, very happy to know air quality on homes in Canada completed seal with fiber glass and drywalls etc…VOC to bad…
Thanks
Same brand name as sensor used by radon mitigation expert. Works well with Android users. Sensors are hardly noticeable.
I am getting good Reading’s now..It took a while for me to hook it up, simple as it was.
Prior to purchasing this, I got a long-term radon test that showed we had elevated levels. The AirThings kit measures within the same range – but I get to see the daily variance, and feel confident that I can use it to evaluate my mitigation measures. The system was easy to set up. The router is worth it in order to be able to access my information without needing to be within bluetooth range.
If you want a residential quality Radon detection and TVOC air quality detection, this is probably the best bang for your buck. However, I would really like to see an updated House Kit with the newer Wave Plus (with CO2) and newer Mini (with Mold).
I did not realize this kit only comes with the original Wave 1st gen.
I downloaded the app for Airthings, followed the simple directions and it works. I did contact the company with a question about the best place to install the Wave unit and they responded with the suggestion to place it at breathing level, not too near vents/ windows and not in the sun, attached to the wall. It came with a magnetic wall hanging devise which is perfect. I placed it at the end of a hall which opens to the bedroom. The Mini was placed on a table in the living room/kitchen area. I connected the Wifi unit to my router.
Though they check for all of the contaminant possibilities in the house, I was most interested in the Radon reading. I have been checking it for a couple of weeks and did find a problem.
Not to go into too much detail… at times I got high readings and at other times very safe. We have a 5′ crawl space below our house which the heating/air conditioning ducts go through. There is some air mixture which does come into the house from that space. When I had the air conditioning on, the radon levels went up. When it was cooler and windows were open, it went to very safe levels. When I also started using the outside air mixing system, which is on our furnace , even with the air conditioning on, the levels went from bad levels to safe in a day.
The Airthings told me what I needed to know. It keeps track of all of the readings and grafts them on the computer or smart phone. I now know that I must deal with the radon, but that it will be easy to correct the problem.
I am extremely happy with the Airthings Wave and Mini. I highly recommend it. There is no need to have air samples sent somewhere. This is a big plus. And… you have a constant reading with just a wave of your hand over the units; or a complete picture from the app. The Wave and Mini have various colors appear with a hand wave to let you know the state of the air.
Our home is almost 60 years old, so we have always been concerned regarding the air quality in home. This product is very easy to setup and use via app on your phone. The readings update and we are able to monitor multiple rooms including basement with this kit.
From the simplicity and ease of opening this product to the peace of mind it continues to give, this product and experience was very well thought out. Nice work, Airthings! This air quality monitor came in a thoughtfully and well-organized package with instructions that were easy to follow. The customer support was great from the moment you download the app and on. In addition to that, the app itself is very helpful, making it easy to learn more about the TVOCs without even needing to go look it up on separately.
I love the ease of checking the air quality by waving your hand over the sensors on the hub and both “waves”, along with the simple, clean and user-friendly app. Being able to closely monitor the air quality in multiple rooms throughout my house has been very helpful!
Airthings did a fantastic job on this product overall. I highly recommend this!
I bought this kit to keep track of my air quality within the house and it does exactly that. The TVOC and Radon readings that these units provide along with the ease of use make this one of the top products on the market. I must add, the customer service is a great help too. Had a few questions which they answered almost immediately and gave helped me out with the purchase of additional units.
