Easy to put together, like the retractable handle for storage. We have just a small lawn and it worked well. Cannot comment on how it would perform on larger lawns.
As an older person I find this useful, easy to store and efficient.
Too early to evaluate completely but does the job it was bought for.
I’ve had strimmers before but not as good as this one, it cut through weeds, ivy and brambles very easily, and it’s still going strong after an hour without replacing the line yet. 10 out of 10
On the slightly heavy side for something you’ve got to swing about for more than 3 minutes
Straightforward to assemble and use and good for the price. Only downside it was difficult to register for the 3yr guarantee!
I eventually got the strimmer put together and fitted the wheel. I used it yesterday and struggled a bit probably because the grass was too long. It was much heavier than I expected but it did the job. I’ll probably get better results when I get used to it. I get the wheel attachment too which does help me to control it better. Many thanks.
E.R.Comrie.
I have just opened the box I was wondering the wheels should come with i
Have not used but lightweight, easy to assemble and manoeuvrable
UPDATED REVIEW:
I was finally able to find a ‘how to’ video online that demonstrated how to remedy the faults of the machine. Consequently, it is only fair to update my review because when the machine is working, it is a great tool, and now I know how to rethread the wire/cable in minutes, it is not such a big deal. This strimmer works like any strimmer, in terms of the cable sometimes autofeeding, sometimes not autofeeding. Nevertheless it is a great tool, and does the job with ease.
I would have dropped a star becuase even though I now know how to deal with most problems, I still think the ‘instructions’ (if they can loosely be described as such) are absolutely hopeless! It is such a shame to find so many quality manufacturers reducing their product instructions to ‘generic’ forms of pointless images. Worse still, having no supporting videos describing how to do simple maintenance (that is required) of their products. So still a big disappointment in these terms. But the strimmer is a ‘Bosch-quality’ tool, so it gets all 5 stars.
If you are not already familiar with a Bosch strimmer tool when you purchase this tool, my advice would be to watch a video by eSpares, where Amy explains, and demonstrates how to deal with the wire/cable (very quickly, in only 3.50 minutes!). Go to Youtube and enter the search term: ‘What to Check if Your Grass Trimmer Line Doesn’t Feed Through or Breaks’
Bosch are great tools, after watching the demonstration, you’ll have no problems changing, or checking the cutting line.
PREVIOUS REVIEW:
…literally!…copy n pasted from ‘Mary Ann II’ review, as covers all my points:
I am generally a big fan of German products, and have happily bought Bosch tools in the past. However, I am shocked by the uselessness of this grass trimmer. Indeed, what other people wrote in their negative reviews is 100% true. Let’s list the points here:
1) No English instructions, but just a series of obscure drawings to interpret. I tried to find some written instructions on the Bosch website, but no.
2) The booklet in the package shows some kind of hook on the back to keep the cable in place, but there is no such thing.
3) You cannot use it for more than a few SECONDS before the plastic line/wire breaks. The wire did not last, not even a whole minute!
4) You want to fix the broken plastic wire? Good luck finding out how, based solely on the obscure drawings.
I will be writing to Bosch for some instructions at some point, but no hurry as summer over and reverted back to using appropriate hand tools.
I am still a fan of Bosch, my home is full of their tools…but this has to be the most frustrating tool I have ever purchased from Bosch…or any brand if it comes to that!
Message to any Bosch readers: this tool is not fit for purpose. If you must retail it as is, proper instructions on disassembly of the cord unit and reassembly should be included in the packaging with the unit.
Easy to assemble with two functions makes it easy to manoeuvre
Although it is not “heavy” it surprisingly tiring in use. However, that said, it works well and gives a smooth cut without too much noise. I allowed myself to be chivvied into purchase of spare cartridge but the original seems to be tasting longer than expected, but I do have a spare when it does eventually run out!
Powerful and well made, put together in 5minutes. Have only just started using this strimmer so still fine tuning setup. Watch out for diagrams in the instruction sheet as they are for the whole of Europe and suggest a part is needed to support the mains cable, that is until you realise that the plug illustrated is a continental 2 pin and not a British 3 pin. I agree with previous reviewers that the diagrams could be better, bigger and supported by text. The amount of line in the spool is miserly and I have already experienced the frequent breaking described by other reviewers. Unlike my previous Flymo Contour 500e this strimmer is not designed to be used vertically to cut lawn edges but it is very good at knocking down tall grass and weeds.
Steps to turn this strimmer from an OK strimmer into a great strimmer
1. Add the following 2.7mm cord to your order:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07SXVK86D/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
2. Order the strimmer and the cord I have recommended
3. Put Strimmer together and proceed to throw the 1.2mm cord Bosch provide with the strimmer in the bin (don’t throw the spool away)
4. Cut some of the 2.7mm cord and place it on the spool, the reel of cord I have recommended will last you a very long time even if you cut the grass very often
This strimmer with the recommended cord will now:
– Cut through the grass quicker and easier
– Give a better finish
– Won’t snap every 2 seconds and will also cut through other things thicker than grass
It’s easy to use !! Light weight , cuts and trimmed well !! I tried two different companies and i had to returned it. I went back to Bosch I knew I will not regrade it !!
I haven’t a large garden, but like any other garden that grows wild and out of control, you would be very happy with this strimmer> In just 15mins one wild garden was put in check. Easy to assemble & just as easy to change wire when needed too. A fair price for a very good name.
HOPE THIS HELPS?
Easy to use and efficient for a medium size strimmer. Probably worth the inconvenience of the mains lead for the benefit of the extra power. Light to use and easy to store with the retracting handle
After having a Flymo strimmer finally give up the ghost, I looked for an alternative. Looking at strimmers and thinking of how many times I’ll have to rest the cutting cable was not my highlight of the day. After looking at quite a few different brands and models, I eventually decided to go with the Bosch.
I liked the fact that I could easily chop and change between standard and heavy duty cutting cables.
It arrived on time and was easily put together. It’s got a fairly decent powerful motor, nice build quality which you expect from Bosch. It handled all the long grass in my garden with ease, with no stopping to reset the cutting cable. It’s reasonably lightweight, just a little heavier than my old Flymo (but it does have a more powerful motor). Having the ability to to set and change the forward handle, made for improving the ability to manoeuvre / control the strimmer.
The other bonus point was the ability to extend the warranty from 2 years to 3 years if you complete the warranty registration within a couple of weeks of getting it and it free of charge.
Bosch, surnominese with quality and longevity. This feels cheap. Yes, I know it is relatively cheap, but there’s certain expectation from this brand.
It has completed the task but it is a little unwealdy. Perhaps the negativity is due to the quality issues.
After “no mow May” the grass was very high. The trimmer whipped through the grass with ease. The only downside is the length of the power cord which is a bit short.
So easy to move side to side even the wife can use i
I have two areas in my ‘garden’: grass area for parking on and a ‘meadow’ in which wild flowers and grass are allowed to grow ‘as will’ until autumn. Maintaining the first with this trimmer is relatively simple although you have to fasten the two ‘bolts’ very tight to prevent the stem from twisting out of position. The second area is the reason for purchasing this tool as the grass is tall and thick. This trimmer handled this area with relative ease.
Not too keen on the shoulder strap finding it difficult to arrange length, etc. so that the machine balances when operating. I have an old full harness that makes this much easier. Managing the stem length and strap are important to ensure that the cutting portion is horizontal otherwise the guard hits the ground first preventing a clean cut.
Operating the trimmer is relatively easy and comfortable. Fitting more cable into the spool is easy.
All-in-all a good buy
No problems very pleased with grass trimmer and quality good
Good heavy duty machine. Sorted out the long grass without problem.
Easy to manoeuvre
After reading bad reviews for art 30 I have risked it anyway as I have other Bosh products that were good and glad that I did. Munched through overgrown grass in my large garden without any problems. Had to change the wire once in 3 hours of work – not a big deal. It was only after trying it out on brambles hat the wire gave up, it can deal with thinner ones OK but will fail on thick ones – I was expecting it to fail. It is a bit heavy so if you are not young and fit go for a version with a strip !
This has been an amazing device. It cuts grass effortlessly and really nicely. It’s not too heavy to hold, but holding it for a while can get quite tiresome.. Will be difficult for the elderly. I’ve personally found that lifting and dropping it all the way to the floor every 10cm seems to be the most effective way of cutting grass.
Would highly recommend getting the model with the wheels to make this an easier task.. As it’s a lot of lifting and dropping.
Super easy to clean, just turn it upside down and wipe with kitchen roll. The wire is nice and long too, but I still use an extension cable because it doesn’t quite reach the end of my garden.
Would recommend!
This product is efficient and I like the way the spooler is easily extended just by pressing a button. My only slight issue with it is that it could have been a wee bit longer. It works perfectly fine in my opinion.
Bought this to tackle a garden that had been neglected for some time. I have what I would see as a medium sized garden and the area strimmed featured waist high grass and various brambles and weed. This thing did the job, but at times, especially when used to a low level in the brambles you could hear the motor struggling, the solution is just to make sure you move the strimmer slower through the brambles.
Only issue I had was the strimmer line broke on the first day of use, I would probably put this down to me basically cutting my entire garden of brambles in one go and somewhat abusing it by trying to strim through thick brambles 1/4 inch wide. Now that said I do think the strim line could clearly be made with a stronger material as I wasn’t expecting it to give up so quickly, got about 90% of the 10x8m garden done and then ordered replacement chord.
in general an efficient implement, however the instruction leaflet is poor mainly in the form of diagrams.
Very good at edging once you rotate the head around. Good piece of kit and plenty powerful.
I got this to replace an old Flymo strimmer/edger. It is more sophisticated than the old one but there are drawbacks, not least, that you need to get the wheel attachment which is sold separately in order to make this easier to manoeuvre.
I didn’t have too much trouble with it strimming but edging is a different matter and it is quite difficult to do without the wheel. I got that from another site for around 18 so take that into consideration when looking at the price of this compared with others. For some reason, Bosch seems to be doing this more often.
Having said that, this cuts a lot better than the old one so one you get the handling sorted the results are excellent. Height adjusted and lightweight which are all important. I also prefer items with a power cable than having to remember to charge batteries. That also avoids problems others have noted these days that battery powered items being sold without batteries or chargers which is even worse than this case of needing a wheel attachment.
Spent over 2 hours, strimming very long grass, front, side and rear of garden. As grass was very long, 2 feet high, it easily cut through it. Only had to extend the worn away cable twice, which was very easy to do, just pressing side black button in, pulling cable out in sections. Only criticism is that I never used the arm handle, as it’s not in a perfect position, so held the arm below the handle and this made it much easier to use and less strain on back. Well worth the money. Cleaned up after use, cleaning the vents, the cover of accumulated grass.
It did not break the wire in the spool so often as cheaper trimmers.
And has wide cutting edge.
Excellent product. Worked really well for what I wanted it to do.
My previous strimmer had the motor at the bottom so this one is very heavy by comparison as you have to carry the motor and it is top heavy. The strap did ease this a little. The line was poorly threaded and I had to rethread some of it. It cut some very rough ground in minutes. Delivered very promptly ahead of schedule.
Very strong trimmer but the string is so week I ve changed it few times which is a nightmare as well! I wonder if there’s a better string out there!
It’s quite heavy. Grass is cut unevenly due to it being heavy.
Great trimmer a lot better than my previous one, good long lead and does cut well.
I should have preferred some instructions in English, as not sufficiently clear photographs and diagrams are hard to
understand at the first encounter. Having now assembled the unit and replaced the cutting line, I could probably do
the whole thing very quickly without needing the silly comic book, but it was of limited use the first time. This is
not confined to Bosch products. I have encountered similar problems with Miele, Black & Decker and other makers.
The strimmer has been well worth the purchase price, enabling me to deal with a fairly big lawn which was very
overgrown, due to my ill-health and weather conditions, but it is all cleared now.
Tried to get as near as possible to my old bosch strimmer as it was so reliable. Good choice I made
Used mainly to trim the edges of my lawn – the 90 degree tilt works well. (Have just installed steel lawn edging so this will soon be redundant methinks)
Sorry did not clear my pond much would not buy agai
Very easy to use. I had a Worx one before that i never got working at all. Only slight gripe is that it splatters grass shavings all over walls and buildings.
works well on grass and small weeds but struggles with established dock weeds and is easy to handle and stylish as well
overall very good value
I was put off by weak electric strimmers and moved to petrol but after that died I brought this and it was pretty good to be fair but as usual there is a cord but a part from that a good produc
Feels well built and quite powerful. Minimal assembly required. Edging feature is very good and gives perfectly straight edges to the garden. Adjustable height feature quick and easy to use and particularly handy for reducing the height when storing after use.
Sturdy twin ended cutter , automatic length adjustment, swivel to assist edge cutting, more efficient than previous models, only slight criticism a bit heavier than before
Very prompt delivery. Ordered Thursday evening arrived Saturday morning. Use for trimming around the edge of the lawns. Is easy to use.
Not as good as it predecessor. Very heavy and process to swivel head very awkward
Very happy with this product. Chops through the tall tough weeds too. Line hasn’t broken or jammed yet.
Well it had to be Bosch in the end, Qualcast was a pain auto feed never worked properly and ended up spinning off round the garden sonewhere, the cheapie B&D never cut it. This works a treat and plently of power.
It’s a little awkward and unwieldy, and strains my back somewhat, but it does a good enough job.
The machine is powerful, but it is not as easy as my previous one to use. It look to me it is built for a left handed person. The replacement string is expensive. Over 10 comparing to others for 4.
The unit performed all that was asked of it excellently. It’s light weight and adjustable shank combined with the additional wheel attachment made for easy maneuverability.
I brought this to replace my old strimmer which was forever having its line snapped, this new one is self feeding and should be bette
Good for small garden can’t complain does it job but expensive for the size and powe
This would be an excellent trimmer for heavy duty trimming. I am approaching 80 years of age, and I thought it would be too much for me to handle. I only require an 9 inch strimmer for light duty trimming.
Much cheaper than purchasing from a diy store. I need one for doing a large area, really comfortable to use supplied with shoulder strap to take the weight, curved so it’s easy to aim. Typical great Bosch quality.
Good quality trimmer however head is tricky to rotate. Well worth the money.
A bit different from my previous Black and Dekker one and has taken a bit of use to get familiar with the offset orientation of the machine, but obviously good quality and works well.
Great for the price, easy to set up and use, however still has the problem with the cable release system, as commonly found on all these automated release cable bush cutters. A better brand that doesn’t melt (the cable that comes with it fuses together and causes problems separating). A shorter cable also reduces this problem.
The over body strap balances the unit well, and this is important when using the trimmer for more than 40 minutes as the unit becomes heavier in use and causes fatigue.
The power cable is shockingly short. I wonder if this was deliberate so that you would buy the wireless version (selling at almost 3 times the price). A simple reel power extension cable remedies this, but it’s just extra work.
One thing though, with the amount of time wasted on resetting the trimmer cutting cable, the location of the power cable hinders holding the unit upright as such you need to balance the trimmer on a large flat surface (such as the lawn) and bend down to fix the cutting cables each time, which makes a tiresome job more tiring.
It try to score it 3.5 out of 5, but as you can’t award a half star, I’ve rounded up to 4.
Very pleased with this grass trimmer, it seams a lot more powerful than the small petrol equivalents. I would certainly recommend this trimmer to anyone who has got a power supply to their garden.
Easy to use. Not ideal for my large garden but fine for small areas.
Ordered these off the back of a which magazine review, they do a good job keeping our recently purchased field tamed until we get round to re-seeding a new lawn. Can be a bit fiddly spooling the line out as this must be done manually, so avoid anything that might snap the line.
Bought this on Black Friday so super happy with the price i paid.
I used to have a small flymo strimmer which was great for borders but not up to hacking down the 125 sq meter jungle that had grown in the house i just moved into.
Ordered this ready for next spring/summer and I’ve used it for the past 6 months. At first was a bit difficult to get to grips with. the strap makes it a lot easier to carry and makes for lighter work.
After about the 3rd/4th time of using its now a lot easier to use. plus everythung is manageable menaing i’ve reduced the cutting time down to around 25 minutes to cut 150 square meter area (including incline) I’ve had to change the strimming wire and I’ve got the stronger option available, (highly recommend) as i’m not having to keep pulling out more cord. The red power cable is easy to see helping to avoid and trips or accidents. Would prefer the cable to be a little longer
Great power and ideal for large overgrown areas
The strimmer does exactly what it says on the box. It’s easy to assemble, and use. If you have a medium to very large garden this is the perfect strimmer for you. Well worth the money spent.
The only downside is changing the cutting wire. That can be a little tricky. Like everything else in life, practise makes perfect. The casing or shroud for the cutting wire could be a little more heavy duty. Otherwise it is a near perfect machine. Perfect results with every use.
Good bit of kit – I’d like it more if it also had a steel blade for thick brush cutting
Afternoon of research brought this beauty to the fore. Very pleased indeed. It does heavy work easily. Minor point are that balance point takes a while to adjust to. After a garden with very long grass and concrete edges ive only reloaded the wire twice which isn’t bad I feel. A very good buy certainly.
This is a very well made strimmer easy to assemble, can be very easily separated into two pieces for convenient transporting and storage. It simply does the job it is designed for, perfect.
I bought this in desperation having tried and failed to get our petrol strimmer going and the weeds and brambles were out of control. I selected this model even though it was very new to the market and there was only one review at the time as it was claimed to be heavy duty. I was very pleased with the power of it which overcame the obvious inconvenience of an extension cable to haul around a large garden.
My one single disappointment was the “bump & feed” business end. The line itself has a maximum diameter of 1.6 cm – not very thick and wears down quickly but the main problem is getting it wound evenly which is fiddly, time consuming and not successful 9 times out of 10. This is not specific to Bosch or this model. I just think it’s a shame when there are more user friendly and simpler designs out there that Bosch has not offered an alternative accessory. There may be some universal heads that will fit the bill but I would need to do some research and meanwhile I need to keep on top of the gardening.
That aside I am very pleased I bought this strimmer and would recommend it for anyone considering buying one.
I am a brand loyal customer when it comes to Bosch products. I have a Bosch washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, drill etc etc, and I have the Bosch Rotak 43 Ergoflex Lawnmower, which is by far the best lawnmower I have ever owned, and I’ve owned a few, electric and petrol.
I have also owned a couple of Bosch grass trimmers. What the heck were they thinking? The Easytrim 23 was probably the worst excuse of a grass trimmer ever available! Fair dooze to Amazon though, they accepted it back and refunded my hard earned without question. So it was with trepidation that I ordered the new Bosch offering, the ART 35 Heavy Duty.
My previous Easytrim wouldn’t have even knocked the clocks off a dandelion. This ART 35 knocks them into outer space! It kicks butt! I’ve owned petrol trimmers from various, shall I say, “top” companies, like Ry…… and McC…… and they were pants. Two stroke engines, stale petrol, dodgy chokes, need I go on, but I did like the power of the two stroke – umpteen kick – trimmers! This new Bosch provides just that – POWER!!! Plenty of it, but not enough to take chunks out of your path and throw hyper-speed chippings into your face and legs. And as a result of this the strim wire lasts much, much better. With my petrol ones I used to have 2.4mm wire and I’d easy get through a spool doing front and back gardens. I have not had a strimmer for nearly a year that actually strimmed anything, so my garden edges had been left to rack and ruin with three foot high coarse grass and weeds with two foot deep borders, so I was a bit concerned that NO grass trimmer would be able to cope too well.
My fears however evaporated as soon as I pulled the triggers on my new toy! She purred like a contented lion and off we went to conquer the new world that had been created in my back garden. Humming merrily to herself, she easily consumed ALL that was put in front of her! Even Genghis Khan couldn’t have eradicated the huge colony of weeds as swiftly and with such ease! We were done in no time at all, with just a few bumps of the spool required as the 1.6mm wire was lasting an age compared to what my petrol ones used to get through. We even did between the cracks in my path rudely made up of slabs, where weeds had dared to show their mocking faces. Normally, this would be where a full face mask and riot gear would be required for safety when using my petrol ones, but not this time! She did a very clean job without trying to kill me in the process.
This grass trimmer is the mutts nuts, the yappers knackers, the dogs bo***x!!! I can’t recommend it highly enough. And no, I don’t work for Bosch, and no, I don’t get out much either…..
So now I have the very best lawnmower I have EVER owned, as well as the very, very best grass trimmer I have EVER owned, and lets face it, EVER likely to own! You shouldn’t be disappointed with this at all. Bosch, at last, have completely nailed how a grass trimmer should – and does – operate!
Team Rock …. Belong
