Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream continues the story of Sophie and Plachtaâs many adventures. After leaving Sophieâs hometown of Kirchen Bell, the pair discovers a huge tree identical to one that Plachta had seen in a dream, and as they get closer, a mysterious vortex pulls them inside. Sophie awakens alone in a curious new world called Erde Wiege, and itâs not long before she hears about an alchemist named Plachta that lives on the outskirts of town. Shockingly, when Sophie arrives at the atelier, she meets a young alchemy enthusiast named Plachta, and even though the alchemist shares the same name as her friend, she doesnât recognise Sophie. What other surprises await Sophie on this journey? As the adventure continues, Sophie meets aspiring alchemist, Ramizel Erlenmeyer, who willingly agrees to help her in her time of need. The narrative elegantly unfolds with a charming new visual style that combines the art of the Mysterious sub-series with the high-quality graphics and animations featured in 2021âs Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends and the Secret Fairy.
Atelier sophie 2 Has an ok story, looks good and playes good to. Im realy enjoying the fighting and collection and also the crafting. Very happy with my purchase.
I sank 60 hours into this, 30 of which was crafting and alchemy!! But that is great fun.
The plot is Alice in wonderland ish, and paper thin but the characters are likable and the pace moves along at a good pace. I think I’ll get the first one now.
Atelier Sophie 2 was played on the Switch. After a couple of updates, the graphics have been very impressive.
After a dialogue heavy first hour, there are plenty of opportunities to go hunting and gathering, with a nice balance between gameplay and dialogue scenes.
Based in a large central hub town, there are a wide variety of environments to explore.
I was very impressed with the look of the game, especially the weather changing mechanic which alters the landscapes and changes how you can pass through them.
Enemies are all visible and when contacted, the game seamlessly activates a very enjoyable turn based battle system, where all of the party of six can get involved.
Battles are mostly quick, apart from a few bosses which have protective shields called auras, which can take a long time to defeat, unless you have synthesized the appropriate magic tools.
Core to the game is the gathering of items and alchemical synthesis, which allows some customization of items to emphasise desired properties. There are lots of side quests available, hunting powerful monsters and synthesising items for various rewards.
The game had excellent mapping, teleportation points at useful places and very useful online guides, so that you are never left wondering what to do left.
Overall an excellent modern Jrpg.
Much like the first game Atelier Sophie 2 is a very little hearted and relaxing tale to play and experience. The game should take you around 40-60 hours to beat(Average 50+ hours for most) depending on your play style. Graphically the game is pretty good and it runs around 30fps on Switch. The only minor issue is that the draw distance is poor compared to the PS4 edition and the load times are slightly longer. This is something that can easily be worked on with patches if Gust take this route. I would say however that given the stable performance on Switch that the Switch edition is the version to go with. The negatives are far outweighed by having a portable edition of the game running at 30fps for the most part. It’s a good game.
This is my first Atelier game, I was hesitant at first but the game is fun and cheerful so far. You don’t need to play the First game because there’s a option that recaps the events of Sophie’s story so far which is great for new and returning players.
The gameplay is fun, you will mainly be gathering items out in the wild to learn recipes to make equipment and items at the Atelier. I love the synthesis puzzle system reminds me of Tetris but with its own twists. You’ll be able to change the weather to get access to new areas when exploring.
The turn based combat is made with seamless transitions within and out of battles which keeps encounters fast paced and short, there are many different skills and tricks you can use against your enemies. Plus if you are overwhelmed by the amount of information thrown at you there is a game manual which is actual very helpful!
The game hardly has any long loading screens when fast travelling around the map but it does take a while for the game to load when you launch it. The game has a beautiful anime art style with a few rocks and the landscape textures looking janky but nothing to noticeable. The character design is top tier. You have the option to choose between a graphic and performance mode which both run smooth on the 2017 Nintendo Switch. The game runs at a smooth 30fps and I never had a huge frame drop. I haven’t experienced any bugs yet in my play through.
If you love JRPGs this game is Definitely worth a buy for new and returning players to the Atelier Series! Plus you get a poster for free! Thank you GUST & KT for this wonderful Game!
