Die TD-3 ist eine gute Acid Box fr den Preis , allerdings kann die TD-3 nur diesen einen Ton gut erzeugen, klingt auch mit eine Reverb gut , aber die Box hat leider Grenzen der Mglichkeit.
Kritik an Amazon, habe statt Neu Ware – eine B-Ware erhalten, war bereits schon geffnet, echt schade, htte gern dafr eine Rabatt erhalten. Auf Kontakt meldet sich keiner.
Baseline sehr geiles Stck. Nur Mal so zum Spa ist OK. Suche noch nach einer Neuen Quasimidi 309 rave o lution.
Wer eine TB 303 erwahrtet bekommt sie auch mit allen Ihren Macken.
Es gibt kein Batteriefach, dafr aber ein Netzteil. UBS-Stecker gibt es keinen, wie bei allen Behringer Gerten.
Bei der TD-3 wusste ich aber worauf ich mich einlie und werde mir noch mal 6 Stck kaufen.
Jetzt fehlt noch ne RD-9 und mein Behringer ReBirth (RB 338) ist vollstndig.

I own a few 303 clones, and this Behringer TD-3 punches well above the price tag, especially when Amazon is selling them for 85. Many people are a little hesitant about the onboard sequencer, but it is true to the original ’80s design, a little annoying to use at first, but really not that hard. Besides, you can program it via the free SynthTribe software provided on their site.
Having MIDI in/out is a massive bonus compared to the original that only had DINSync and this one has a built-in Boss DS-1 style distortion. All these added extras just make it more appealing, and you can do MIDI over USB as well, along with any potential firmware updates.
The sound is pretty much what you would expect from a 303, and I’ve used plenty of original ’80s ones to know that they all sound a little different anyway. You can unscrew this TD-3 and mess with the factory filter setting if you want to dial it I too taste, plus once you have EQ’d it and added effects it will sit really nicely in the mix.
Overall, a bit of a bargain at well under 100 for a slice of classic mono synth, and ‘that filter’ is a lot of fun.

This sounds brilliant and is very hands on! Using with the software is a bit fiddly but it makes programming the sequencer easier.

The other thing is because of the way you program it., which does fry your mind at first, it can give you results that can surprise you compared with editing in a DAW.
Great sound, plastic body could be better quality, feels a bit flimsy. Who cares as it’s only ever gonna sit on my desk being tweaked. Programs exactly the same was as a 303 and is the most faithful clone out there.

Da man sie ber MIDI auch ber diverse andere Sequencer oder DAWs ansteuern kann, gibt trotzdem die volle Punktzahl, denn der Sound berzeugt.
It’s great. It’s cheap. It’s astonishingly authentic.
Which means it’s almost impossible to use. Get it connected to a DAW and send it midi. An overlap between notes will give you glide, and a velocity of more than 100 will give you accent. Do the rest on the front panel.
Just don’t try to actually impose on the damn thing.
To cut a long story short.
Synth sounds fantastic, very authentic 303. Distortion is fantastic, just like a Boss DS1 which I used to use in the 90s.
Sequencer is very difficult to learn, basically the same as a Roland 303. It’s a clone

Probably didn’t need to get a new one and probably could emulate this very classic sound with another poly or FM synth but this one is just so much FUN! Analog makes it responsive and for its compact size and light weight it sure has a rowdy character!
Behringer, esa marca alemana que copia diseos de otros productos que han funcionado bien, les cambia cuatro cosas, y los vende a millones en todo el mundo…
No tengo mucho que objetar a este aparato. El sonido es 95% idntico al de la unidad original de Roland. Tampoco es un milagro de la tcnica, es un sintetizador de lneas de bajo monofnicas. El mrito est en haber inventado esto, como hizo Roland, en los 80; no en copiarlo en 2020, su diseo interior por otra parte es bastante sencillo.
Dos cosas le voy a criticar:
Por un lado, el secuenciador por pasos. Es idntico al de Roland. Really? No haba nada que mejorar? Los secuenciadores por pasos son una de las formas ms antiintuitivas de hacer msica. Se podran haber marcado algn pequeo cambio.
Por otro lado, si tiene conexin usb., que sirve para actualizar los patrones internos… no se podra haber implementado automatizacin, aunque fuera slo de los patrones ms relevantes (frecuencia de corte y resonancia, para empezar) a travs de ese puerto? Es curioso, recibe midi, y lanza notas por midi, pero no soporta cambios de controlador. Entiendo que es porque es analgico, y a lo mejor aadir estos cambios de forma automatizada a nivel de hardware encarecera un par de euros… pero… “Behringer, toma mi dinero, y dame esos cambios”. Lo echo muchsimo de menos.
Si, se puede echar a andar la secuencia, y grabar una pista del daw con los cambios en parmetros que le hago manualmente. Pero si a mitad de cancin me equivoco… vuelta a empezar. Por otra parte, los que a veces hacemos cosas experimentales, nos gusta programar cambios radicales en los controladores, por ejemplo pasar los valores de frecuencia de corte de uno a otro en escaln.
Por ltimo, resear que pesa muy muy poco. El plstico parece bueno (TODO es plstico, cero metal). Pero en serio, a veces al manipularlo, se mueve de la mesa; yo le habra metido una plancha de metal dentro para darle estabilidad. Me gusta que un aparato electrnico pese, aunque sea “de mentirijillas”.
Por este dinero est genial. Pero no es perfecta.

Top Preis Leistungsverhltnis. Wahrscheinlich kann nur ein Kenner und Fachmann dieses Gert vom Original der TB 303 unterscheiden. Ich kann es nicht. Meiner Meinung nach ist dieses Gert fr jemand der sich fr diese Art von Sound und Musik interessiert und sich damit nher beschftigen will absolut ein Kauf wert. Nochmal, das Preis Leistungsverhltnis ist top. Die Lieferung auch top! nach 3 tagen wurde bereits geliefert.
Was ich nicht beurteilen kann, inwiefern ein Liveauftritt (Profigebrauch) mit der Acidbox Behringer TD-3-SR mglich ist.
This analog bass line Synth is a reboot of the Roland TB-303 with added distortion / amount controls. It has a 16 step sequencer with 7 tracks (4 really marked with Roman numerals) and 250 patterns. There are options to input MIDI, Out/Thru DIN and USB, although the TD3 doesn’t come with a USB Type B cable. To help you on your way, their website has a SynthTribe App that allows you to program patterns in a piano roll to send back to the TD3, and which is necessary as it also updates the firmware. The software allows you to export and to dump all patterns to a computer, thereby creating a backup. It has one 6.35 TS analog output line out and 3.5 inputs for filter in, sync In, CV out; Gate out and headphones. The Behringer TD3 is what you make of it but priced very affordably.
The TD-3 actually improves on that design a little with better/larger knobs, midi ports, more in’s outs but still keeps that classic sound and way of programming the machine with an extra ‘random mode’.
No need to spend thousand on a 40 year old tb303 from ebay/reverb you not know the difference in a mix.
Things NOT the same as the 1981 tb303: not battery operated as an option, no slip case.

If you expect this to be as beautiful and easy to use as an iPhone. It’s not for you. This is from an era where you were expected to think. So just read the manual or watch a You Tube tutorial. It’s quite simple and fun once you know how.

Vous allez la reconnatre desuite. Les oreilles les plus pointues notent cependant de lgre diffrence mais il faut des oreilles d’Elf car en 30 ans d’coute de son acid a ne m’a absolument pas saut mes oreilles.
Maintenant niveau matriaux le botier n’est pas du tout robuste comme sa grande sur et lui donne un aspect jouet assez fragile.
Personnellement elle bougera pas de mon home studio donc pas de risque.
Les potards sont un poil rigide je trouve, a voir sur la dure.
La notice en revanche est un vritable foutage de gueule car la prise en main est loin d’tre vidente. 2 pauvres pages.
Des petits dfauts certes mais a reste pour moi un perfect a ce tarif.
Foncez, impossible de le regretter !
Kein bzw. kaum ein Unterschied zum Original zu hren, aber man kann sich 20 bis 30 Stck zum Preis einer originalen 303 von diesen Behringer-Klons kaufen. Zustzlich noch Midi, Distortion und Audio-in. Sehr geiles Gert fr alle Acid Junkies.
Die TD3 macht soundtechnisch wirklich was her.
Und ich muss sagen, nach dem Odyssey jetzt der zweite Behringer den ich hier habe, und ich denke es wird mehr werden.
Die Verarbeitung des Gehuses wirkt preisgerecht (hey, ein 303 – Klon mit alles und scharf fr 100)!
Mehr darf man nicht erwarten aber: das Teil ist einfach erstmal ein Werkzeug.
Schn wre es, wenn SYNTHTRIBE mit MIDI – Keyboards kommunizieren wrde, aber es geht auch mit der Maus.
Die Programmierung an der Einheit selbst ist eher nicht wirklich intuitiv, leider gibt auch das Handbuch nicht viel her, aber YT hilft ein wenig.
Das Museklavier” ist auch eher Behelf aber – noch mal langsam und zum Mitschreiben: 100! (Warehouse deutlich gnstiger!).

Jako wykonania jest taka sobie. Urzdzenie sprawia wraenie taniego… a do momentu uruchomienia. Kwasowy bass generowany przez to niepozorne, plastikowe pudeko urywa gow. Na pocztku na wyjciu suchawkowym byy szumy. Gdy podczyem do wyjcia OUTPUT dwik by czysty. Nie wiem z czego to wynika, bd obserwowa sytuacj. Bdzie ku temu sporo okazji bo krcenie tustych, basowych partii na TD-3 wciga. Odrobina efeku delay i prosty bit z PO33KO! buja a mio.
Je voulais le son de la TB-303, mais je n’avais pas envie de payer 4000 pour me procurer l’originale d’occasion. Je me suis rabattu vers cette copie de chez Behringer qui est absolument parfaite et reproduit le comportement de la Roland avec une exactitude remarquable, cela ne veut pas dire qu’elle est sans dfauts, loin de l, mais ces dfauts sont les mme que pour la TB-303, donc rien remarquer spcifiquement pour ce modle.
Si vous tes fans du son acid, foncez tte-baisse.

My only other criticisms of this would be that the plastic case does feel a bit cheap to the touch (though the original probably did too). And i would have liked this to have come with a USB cable included, since adding USB audio and MIDI is something more modern that they have seen fit to add (wisely, if you ask me).

But those quibbles aside, i have to say that if you are in the market for a cheap 303 clone then look no further. This is what you want. This just has FUN written all over it. Yes, it only makes the one sound, and that’s it. But there have been times i’ve played with this for ages with no other sound running except a simple 4/4 kick drum loop.

The cutoff and resonance knobs do actually feel like they are built to withstand the kind of use and abuse that they are going to get. The built in distortion is good, but putting this through a cheap fuzzbox (and a little reverb) is even better. Overall the sound can not be faulted.

The main audio out is a single quarter inch jack on the back. But there is also a 3.5mm jack on the top for headphones. And apart from the USB there is also the standard 5 pin MIDI in and out sockets on the back. There is also a selection of other small jack in and out sockets on the top for things like CV and gate, but i have yet to try these. But the standard 5 pin MIDI works straight out of the box, taking it’s signal from any hardware sequencer that i tried, no problem. Though it’s worth mentioning that the default MIDI channel is 1, which took me a moment to figure out as i am more used to kit defaulting to 9, 10, or 11 (depending on what kind of thing it is). But once i did figure this out then we were up and running with no more hiccups. This also connected to my computer and DAW seamlessly. And within only a minute or so i was writing parts for it from my old iMac that’s still running the outdated O.S. ”High Sierra”.

I know that there are probably some none music-making people who will think that spending his kind of money of something that just makes one sound is a stupid thing to do. But what do they know?! That this is as good as it is and comes under 300, even under 200, is mind blowing enough. But if you are not fussy about the colour then there are ones on here for even under 100, which is nothing short of incredible.
Not a 303 but makes sounds very much like a 303. Great fun, distortion is a nice extra feature. The PC interface makes programming the sequences very easy, all you need is a USB connection.
Ein Traum fr den Preis! Kommt der echten TB303 gefhrlich nah und die MOD Ein- Ausgnge sind auch super, da hngt z.b. der Neutron bei mir dran. Werde mir definitiv noch eine zweite holen und bin auf die RD6 gespannt.

Die Bedienungsanleitung allerdings ist echt Schrott. 1 2 Seite englisch 3 4 deutsch 5 6 franzsische 7 8 englisch 9 10 Deutsch. Das doch nix, dieses hin und her blttern. Auch sonst sind die Erklrungen nicht gerade brig.
Lo compre para mi hijo. Lleg en perfectas condiciones, en principio parece un poco complicado de usar, pero el tiempo y algunos tutoriales te lo hacen un poco ms fcil. Para iniciarse iniciarse el la produccin est bastante bien por el precio que tiene.
You usually have two trains of thought….
1. Buy original – get the original, and all that brings
2. Buy the clone, well, this is what this is, but before you write it off, it has a few tricks up its sleeve, the sound isnt too bad at all, and the addition of distortion is really worth the budget price, even if it sits in your setup and only gets used selectively, you should enjoy this.
IMPORTANT: Like any music gear I’ve found the more time you spend, the more you can get out of it.
Das Gert ist klangtechnisch brutal nah an der orginalen TB303, stellt den Roland Boutiquenachbau (kostet 3x soviel) locker in den Schatten und macht einfach Spass.
Sicher, der Workflow beim Pattern programmieren ist fr jngere Generationen erstmal etwas sperrig, aber das lernt man schnell. Die Midiintegration geht super, damit auch das Zuspielen von Noten ber eine DAW oder einen anderen Sequenzer.
Wer die 303 kennt und schtzt, muss hier zuschlagen. Ich verspreche: du wirst entzckt und ergriffen, voller Wonne den Resonance Regler bettigen, dann denn Accent tweaken. Weil es einfach geil ist 🙂

Man blickt schnell durch, hier und da helfen YouTube-Videos weiter.
Das Gehusematerial und die Knpfe sind allerdings aus recht gnstigem Plastik was man sieht, sprt und auch hrt (die Druckknpfe klacken durch das hohle Gehuse recht laut). Das beeintrchtigt jedoch in keinster Weise die gute Bedienbarkeit. Irgendwo muss der Preis ja herkommen.
Man bekommt dafr einen Low-Price Bassline Synthesizer, mit einem Sound, den man mindestens erst im Mid-Price segment erwarten wrde.
Wer mit solchen Gertschaften schon geliebugelt hat kann sich hier getrost mal was gnnen. Wenns einem dann halt doch nicht liegt hat man nicht erst unntig viel Geld investieren mssen.
Er tut was er soll sehr gut, ohne Extrawrste oder Schnickschnack. (Der zuschaltbare Distortion-Effekt sollte dennoch Erwhnung finden. Klingt echt nice. )
War lange skeptisch bei Behringer-Produkten aber fr den Preis hab ich es einfach mal gewagt und bin bis jetzt nicht enttuscht.
Preis/Leistung stimmt auf jeden Fall.

Geiles Teil. Klingt wie das Original und sieht auch noch tausend mal besser aus als das Original. TB-303 war gestern, heute ist TD-3 angesagt. Besonders geil ist der eingebaute Distortion!!!
stato un regalo, quindi per uno che proprio nn se ne intende non saprei cosa dire… il festeggiato rimasto molto contento perch sapeva cosa aveva tra le mani.

Gerne sehe ich ber das etwas plumpere Gehuse und die etwas lieblosere Beschriftung hinweg. Anschlusseitig bleiben ebenfalls wenige Wnsche offen: USB zum Anschluss an den Computer, MIDI In und eine MIDI Thru/Out-Kombi-Buchse sowie ein 6,3mm Mono-Klinken-Anschluss sind dabei noch nicht alles – es gibt noch Ein-/Ausgnge fr Filter, Sync, CV, Gate und Kopfhrer, die weitere Anwendungen ermglichen.
Spannend: Das Schaltungsdesign erlaubt technisch versierten Anwendern die Modifikation und Erweiterung – die Hauptplatine ist dafr bestens geeignet und im Netz gibt es Anleitungen.
Nachdem die wichtigsten Features – nmlich Klang und Anschlsse – im Hinblick auf Preis und Leistung berzeugen, widme ich mich den Problempunkten der Behringer TD 3 – von denen mindestens eines (hoffentlich bald) durch ein Firmware-Update behoben werden knnte…

Der Sequenzer der Behringer TD-3 verhlt sich nahezu identisch zum Original aus den 1980ern – und wer jemals eine “echte” Roland TB 303 programmieren durfte, der wei, dass das kein positives Merkmal ist. Um es kurz zu machen: “Unintuitiv” wre eine wohlwollende Umschreibung. Glcklicherweise gibt es vier Mglichkeiten, damit umzugehen: a) man verwendet ausschlielich die Presets (mir gefallen die nicht), b) man erzeugt Zufalls-Pattern (die klingen oft gar nicht schlecht), c) man benutzt die kostenlose Editor-Software von Behringer (das ist je nach Verkabelung aber mit Kompromissen behaftet) und d) man programmiert per externen Sequencer (meine Wahl).
Zu beachten: Noten, Accents und Slides knnen per Sequencer editiert werden. Filter, Hllkurven, Wellenform, Distortion etc. lassen sich nicht editieren – die sind vollstndig analog. Also nicht vergessen, die Regler-Ausgangspositionen zu dokumentieren…
2. Es gibt kein Lauflicht, wenn die Behringer TD 3 spielt. Weder, wenn der interne Sequenzer verwendet wird noch wenn die Noten via externem Sequenzer getriggert werden. Mglicherweise liee sich das per Firmware realisieren – bislang gibt es da aber nichts.
3. Die Umschaltung von Clock, Eingang und Auflsung ist unntig umstndlich – ein zustzlicher Drehregler oder Schiebeschalter wre hilfreich gewesen. Leider ist das derzeit so gelst, dass man ohne das (schlecht strukturierte) Mini-Anleitungsheftchen nicht auf die Idee kommt, wie man die Umschaltung realisiert.
4. Beim Sequenzer gilt das Highlander-Prinzip: Entweder man nutzt den internen Sequenzer, der aber immerhin via MIDI gestartet und gestoppt werden kann – oder man lsst einen externen Sequenzer triggern. Ein Kombi-Betrieb ist nicht mglich.
Ein kleines Schmankerl sei noch erwhnt: Mehrere Behreinger TD-3 lassen sich via Polychain verbinden – und damit eine “Mehrstimmigkeit” realisieren.
Ich habe das rote Modell gekauft – einerseits weil ich der Meinung bin, dass ich nicht den Look des Originals brauche und andererseits, weil mir das silbenerne Gehuse den Aufpreis nicht wert war.
Addendum:
Wenigstens ein Rezensent bemngelt Klick-Plopp-Effekte beim Ein-/Ausschalten. Mir ist das nicht aufgefallen. Selbst wenn es so wre und auch wenn sich das technisch vermeiden liee, sollte man immer das Preisschild im Hinterkopf behalten. Ich habe fr ein Neugert weniger als 100 EUR hier bei Amazon gezahlt und dafr gehe ich einige wenige Kompromisse (gerne!) ein – denn typischerweise kosten (gute) Nachbauten der Roland TB 303 ein Vielfaches der Behringer TD 3 – vom Original, welches im guten Erhaltungszustand gerne mal mehrere tausend Euro kosten kann und dann klanglich auch recht weit gesteckten Fertigungstoleranzen (inkl. erheblicher “Wetterfhligkeit”) unterworfen ist, ganz zu schweigen.

Wichtig:
Im Lieferumfang ist neben der TD-3 und der Anleitung nur noch das Netzteil – alle Kabel mssen separat vorhanden sein oder besorgt werden.
Wer schon immer den “echten” Techno- und Acid-Sound haben und produzieren wollte, der hat mit der Behringer TD 3 eine unschlagbar gnstige Mglichkeit dazu. Die sthetischen Mngel sind vernachlssigbar. Der Klang ist – nicht nur fr diese Preisklasse – ein Hammer. Wer es noch authentischer will, der muss deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen und beispielsweise eine Din Sync RE-303 oder eben die originale Roland TB-303 erwerben.
Bei dem Preis der Behringer TD-3 kann man nichts falsch machen und beherzt zugreifen.
Nachdem ich vor Jahrzehnten die originale 303 hatte (die ich damals fr nen appel und nen ei verkloppt habe) hatte ich mal wieder Bock auf so eine zwitschkiste 🙂 behringer hat es geschaft genau das zu bieten inklusive der beknackten bediehnung von damals…. Warum… Egal gib ja jetzt Programm und damit is das teil klasse also wer bock hat fr ein abgerabeltes original 2000+ auszugeben soll das machen klanglich ist das allerdings auch fr 120 zu haben ohne klanglichen Verluste und wesentlich bessere Bedienbarkeit von mir klare Kaufempfehlung top Teil frs Geld
C’est russi. Le son, tout analogique, est chaud et puissant tout comme l’original, et les contrles sont tout fait similaire. C’est un vrai copi-coll. Cependant, le plastique plutt bas de gamme et la lgret du machin font plutt tche, mais ce n’est que du dtail.
Reste que, avis personnel, quitte reprendre l’architecture interne du 303, Behringer aurait pu revoir l’interface qui est tout sauf attirante et est complexe matriser. Un novice aura toutes les peines du monde dbloquer sa machine coince dans on ne sait trop quel mode cause d’une mauvaise manipulation. La programmation des notes est plutt rbarbative.

Behringer, con questo prodotto si superata, sia per la qualit del suono che riesce a tirare fuori che per il prezzo. Ovviamente un compromesso c’, ed il materiale con cui rivestito, totalmente in plastica che sembra essere abbastanza rigida.
Spero che questa scelta sia stata fatta in ottica ambientalista, cio, usare la plastica per prodotti che devono avere una lunghissima durata ed evitare cos l’obsolescenza programmata per evitare quindi di iper inquinare il pianeta, riempiendo le discariche della plastica di questo TD-3. Per cui confido che la componentistica interna di qualit elevata. Ma lo scopriremo sono usandolo nel tempo. Qui, capiremo la reale affidabilit e seriet di Behringer.

The td3 is light weight, easy to program through the synth tool. and the sound is awesome. for this price it’s hard to beat it.
Behringer s’est beaucoup amlior et niveau rapport qualit prix imbattable. Ces nouveaux produits synthtiseurs et botes rythmes mritent vraiment le dtour. Si je pouvais je les collectionnerais tous ces nouveaux modles de base vintage.

Die Bedienung ist wie man es vom Roland Original kennt.
Etwas schade, es gibt kein Lauflicht oder Display das einem verrt in welchem Step man sich gerade befindet, wenn man ein Pattern erstellt.
Sonst gibt’s da nichts zu bemngeln, eine 303 eben.

The sound is something else. Incredibly clean bass lines consisting of a saw tooth or square wave that actually sound like a bass with the ability to slide notes or accent, you can take the sound from clean wave in to some beautiful funk sounding notes. It has real quality. The distortion is nice giving a pinch to notes rather than just distorting everything. The behringer the new bassist assist for my family of devices. 🙂
The adapter is terrible. I have a high rise of adaptations that wobbles so badly, it’s cutting power to the unit. It has to go!

For starters it’s not really black, more of a gunmetal grey.
Anyway moving on if you want to add an acid line into any or all of your tracks I’d say this should be your first port of call. Let’s face it who wants to spend 1000+ on a Roland original? This is one more reason not to. I had a cyclone Tt303 which was good but I didn’t keep it. Main reason for me was the knob height – the behringer has quite east to grip pots and I’ve just really enjoyed using it. I’ve used software versions such as phoscyon and abl2 but prefer hardware really. It is an addictive machine – don’t say I didn’t warn you if you start adding acid lines onto every track!

Por el precio que tiene es una maravilla, muy contento. Si quieres conseguir un sonido acid sin complicaciones esta es tu mquina. Fcil de sincronizar y de manipular, un clon correcto de la TB-303. Merece la pena, y si no te gusta, siempre la puedes vender que no va perder mucho valor.
What an incredible job Behringer have done in cloning the legendary Roland 303. For the price it’s worth buying for a piece of art. Not only looks authentic but sounds very authentic! Also has some additional features than the original 303.
I would say if you love the 303 Acid sounds from the 80’s 90’s then it’s a must buy!
My only gripe would be the power supply is a two pin plug not UK style. To work out of the box you will need buy a 2pin converter plug like the ones supplied with electric toothbrushes or razors.

Thought this might have been a returned item (due to the price) but on inspection & use I don’t think so (Thanks BAX). The unit itself is utterly brilliant, with the help of You Tube & Dr Mix I had Donna Summer & Kraftwerk blasting out in no time. Being analogue it can take time to set up for what you want, but the Behringers SynthTool allows you to save, Import & Export Sequences To/From the device which helps. Still learning how to do more thing on it, will update feedback later.

Okay, so… it’s a 2020s clone of a 1980s box that did 1990s rave/dance music a huge favour by being cheap, unloved and repetitive. Repetition makes things memorable. Repetition makes things memorable. Repetit… yes. That.
Simple loops, programmed on a pushbutton keyboard (or in SynthTool, the simple app that also upgrades firmware), and formed out of a straightforward saw (harsh) or square (mellow but punchy) wave, with filter, accent and resonance to taste.
Hardware-wise, this is proper analogue – no emulation. It sounds wonderful – particularly with a bit of delay – with screeching, cutting resonance, rubber-band squelch and everything you love about that genre-defining 303 sound.
The Behringer is a faithful clone of the 303 for the most part, with an added distortion circuit (similar to the Behringer Neutron ) and MIDI over USB or full-size DIN ports. It’s lightweight, plastic, and has clicky, cheap-ish feeling buttons but the important knobs and dials are more robust.
Point lost for the pusbutton, rather than slide power switch as it can be knocked if something bashes the back of the TD-3, but nitpicking – everything else is brilliant for the money. It’s well spaced out and easy to use without knocking the other controls, and the LEDs are bright enough but not distracting. Power changes colour in poly-chain mode.
Some CV interfacing options are present on top, but not a full patch bay, There’s a filter input though, allowing external sources to be processed by the TD-3’s analogue filter. MIDI sync and tap tempo are other features lacking on an original 303, but there’s a trigger input to sync with older gear – compatible with Volcas, Pocket Operators and the like.
MIDI control allows access to the full range and longer notes/more sophisticated sequences (accent is velocity controlled, slide is just there if you play legato), but that control is purely note related – you can’t automate the filter, for example.
There are subtle differences, but for the most part this is a fantastic-sounding 303, with intuitive and authnentic programming, expressive thanks to the filter and distortion falling easily to hand, and just enough modernity to be compatible with modern sequencers and easy to polychain. There are different colours, all of which use the same hardware (for now – Behringer’s new chip may mean a V2) so get the one that’s the best value and appeals most – they’re all really fun to play with and an essential hardware synth if you’re into any dance or electronic prog formats, where repetition makes things memorable.
You do get a sticker with the yellow one.
If you’re after more authentic behaviour or upgrades, there are loads of DIY mods (such as the hacks from Maffez) out there because this is real analogue hardware.
TD-3 r frmodligen den mest autentiska och helt analoga reproduktionen av Roland TB-303. Ljudmssigt r den i praktiken omjlig att skilja frn originalet (som jag fortfarande har i halvt fungerande skick), den skorrar och morrar p samma stt. I mitt tycke slr den bde Rolands digitala reproduktion, bde mjukvara och andra hrdvarukloner med hstlngder. Den har ocks MIDI och ven USB, vilket originalet givetvis saknade.
Behringer har dessutom terskapat det underbart kryptiska anvndargrnssnittet till punkt och pricka: lika frustrerande att programmera innan man har suttit ett par timmar och experimenterat. Oftast fr man fram ngot helt annat m man tnkt sig, men det r lite grann av tjusningen med denna synth. Den har dessutom en randomize-funktion d den kan skapa helt slumpmssiga sekvenser som kan fungera som bas fr vidare vningar. Vill man inte krngla med interfacet, kan man istllet koppla in TD-3 till en dator via USB och dr programmera sekvenserna via ett modernt grnssnitt eller helt enkelt spela den som en vanlig, superenkel synth via ett MIDI-keyboard (vilket helt tar bort magin).
Dock blev jag besviken p enheten som jag fick i posten frn Amazon. Trots att det var slt som nytt, var det alldeles uppenbart ett returnerat exemplar jag fick, med kartongen ppnad, enheten full med fingeravtryck runt reglagen och med rispor p undersidan samt runt MIDI-porten. Dessutom var strmaggregatet klantigt hopvirat och hrthnt inkrt i sin kartong. Jag frskte rycka p axlarna, men knde att jag nog inte riktigt skulle kunna lita p vilka eventuella fel som skulle dyka upp senare p ett instrument som blev s hrt behandlat p s kort tid, s jag skickade tillbaks allt till Amazon och kpte en annan frn Bax Music istllet.
