Got it to replace a B and D electric mains, but its not as powerful which leaves me a bit disappointed. It was easy to assemble, and its easy to use, with the freedom you get from a battery, but the battery doesn’t seem to last as long as other items I use, and its not that good for longer or tougher grass. Its early days and I hope I’ll get used to i

Chose B&D, now conjoined with Stanley, the US Tools giant, as a long established name, as apart from the countless Chinese cheap ones on the market, as quality always questionable. This is great, and got the lawn down from over a foot in minutes, due to recent rain, not able to cut it! Go for well established Company Names, not cheap imports, where spares will be virtually unobtainable!

Works ok on lawns but struggles a little on longer and denser areas. Could do with 36 volt powe

It is a very good strimmer and definitely does the job. I just wish that the battery lasted a little bit longer especially on turbo mode.

Love this. Does the job. The screw to keep guard on is too long so interferes with reel once spinning. Maybe just mine. Otherwise no complaints. Battery life about 25 mins but your arms will still be shaking if you go at it non stop

We abound a field with very long grasses, so my husband uses this to stop the weeds coming into the garden. If he is happy then so am I!

Great strimmer ours was on its last legs.
And the wire was a bit of a pain
Never had any cordless garden equipment before.
Hubby was really pleased with it and a great price.
The only thing he didn’t like was the wheel stopped him going
As close to the edge as he would like.
    Hence the 4 stars

Cuts well and easy to figure out although instructions poor
Battery life adequate but only about half an hour on turbo which is needed for rougher and higher patches
Easy to recharge though with B&D battery which you can use on other devices from them.

It’s great…..and the perfect size, but I found some gaps.Julie motioned to me that it reminded her of a Manhattan skyscraper but that the skyscraper was not usually black and red(yawn!)It came with tape on the outside which made access quite awkward and one of its corners was slightly misinformed but Julie motioned to me that she thought it gave it a little West country charm. It wasn’t particularly heavy, but it was weighted awkwardly, although just nine of my neighbour’s friends, parents children made light work of transporting it into my Lower paddocks, where we all admired it’s simple, elegant design.Unfortunatly the weather was against us and the children went home. The next visit, it had lost most of its ridgidity and the shine was gone. But I think generally,it was still in quite good condition.

    Lightweight, easy to transport.

A great lawn edger, very easy to use and the auto spool works well. Battery life is good and leaving it permanently on charge ensures it is ready for next time. The swivel wheel arrangement switches for edging tasks and strimming and the handle grip makes it well balanced. Overall a good produc

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis Black & Decker strimmer STC1820PC-GB is far and away the best strimmer I have ever had. My old Black & Decker strimmer finally gave up after about 15 years of service. This beauty is light even though it has a battery, it emits about 20% of the noise of my old strimmer so doesn’t disturb the neighbours, it is efficient when trimming borders which is all I ask of it mostly, the wheel is really useful when cutting borders, it has two speeds and the slower speed is best for borders and uses less power from the battery. Really pleased with it – so if you’re looking for a strimmer to keep your flower bed and path borders neat, this is the one for you.

The best strimmer I have ever had

What a great Strimmer, I wish I had forked out long ago for a battery powered version. No trailing wires or the need to buy petrol, I’ve had both types. Recommend this highly. Very light to use. Can’t praise it enough. I bought an additional battery for a back up for when it’s long job of work.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIt’s light weight and easy to handle. The battery lasts about 20 mins and takes 3-4 hours to recharge. I use the high power setting quite a lot as it speeds up the job. Even the low power setting cuts through brambles and nettles with ease. It’s a pity that it doesn’t have some LEDs to show the battery status and the ability to attach polycut blades would have made some jobs easier. However, the nylon line lasts for a long time and feeds automatically without any problems. When I was using my main powered strimmer I only got it of of the shed about every 2 weeks because the cables were so inconvenient. But I use this one a bit like the way that I use a hoe: it is something that you can pick up and use just for a couple of minutes every day to keep the garden tidy.

    No more cables!

I bought this B&D strimmer for home use , and it was for me a value for money purchase. Having used another almost identical B&D strimmer for a pub and campsite job, i wanted one from home. I use the 1820 for edging and the quick flip wheel is very handy, I can also use it to trim hedges lower leaf levels, although not ideal for this, due to the strimmers lightweight you can swing it up quickly. I’m a fairly strong 60 yr old , but Id expect I will still be using it with 80 ( I hope ). The other feature of the 1820 is the easy to feed no nonsense strimmer cord, this is easy and cheap to replace. The only critic from my side is the limited battery charge, I get around 20-25min , if you want a slightly more powerful cut and 45 mins for larger gardens you need the 36volt version.

Great product for light garden work. Would not recommend for heavy duty brush removal.
Best also to buy a second battery for when the first runs out,as there is a lengthy charge up time.

A fantastic and easy to use cordless power tool. It cuts weeds and grass like it’s butter and leaves quite a good looking finish to the garden. The only problem i had when doing my garden it didn’t cut through tough weeds but other than that it’s perfect for all the cutting tasks to do with lawns and weeds. The strimmer comes with a charger and you simply click the battery into place in the charger. It’s very powerful and fast cutting, the strimmer guard has a slope on the left hand side for faster cutting. You can easily convert it from strimmer to lawn edger by pulling the top plastic part and twisting it around. The battery lasts forever and always had enough charge for what i needed to get done. Its also very light weight and easily carried up to a staired garden which i have with tricky stairs to navigate.

Pretty much fully assembled out of the box. Just needed to attach the guard and remove the tape from the spool and the line trimmer blade, pop in the battery (charge first)
Uncomplicated strimmer with 2 speed settings. I got it with the separate lawnmower attachment whick works great for small lawn areas. Decent battery life and charge time. Would recommend this.

I have never owned a strimmer, but, now widowed, I had to get to grips with the rampaging grass in my garden. I’m a little bit wary of all power tools, but thought I’d take a punt on this as it is cordless. So far, I’m very impressed. Once I got the hang of the strimming action, it did exactly what I wanted it to do. I have a lot of grass, so the 35 minutes run time on Eco mode isn’t really enough for me. Because it takes 5 hours to charge up the battery, what I do is use it for half an hour in the morning, then charge it up again, and do another half hour after 5 pm. Actually, this is fine for me, because, at 65, my arm starts to ache after half an hour anyway. I agree with the other reviewer who said the manual was not well laid out, the diagrams are pages away from the instructions, and you have to keep flicking about. But it was straightforward to put it together, just one screw. I am a bit worried about what to do when it’s time to change the cutting line, though, but I expect I’ll figure it out.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is my 6th strimmer. The first is an ancient but still operational B+D. Second was a 2 stroke that was noisy and vibrated like crazy, a friend needed to borrow one, so I gave it to him on the single condition I never saw it again. Deal.
Three and four are both a high-end German make, rechargeable, one of which is useless, takes those little plastic finger things – avoid. The other is very good indeed but a bit big for lawn edges so I got number 5, the B+D corded version of this one, it is splendid but of course has the cord….
Enter this one. 5 stars. The miraculous thing about this and the corded version, is that by some black magic, the line is always at the right length, it auto feeds, no pulling no tapping on the ground, just works.

Love cordless , light, would like a little more time before battery recharge. But letting first 3 charges happen to judge this or may need to get second battery . Its fine for small nearly medium garden . Accessibility and handleability excellent . Would like ability to remove distance wheel for certain areas of the garden.. overall very good

  25. Anonymous says:

This is easily the best strimmer I’ve ever owned. Good diameter, very manoeuvrable, not too heavy and the wheel at the back is an unexpected bonus – stops the strimmer line hitting (breaking) against immovable objects.
Came quickly and with a partial charge on the battery so when I’d put it together (easy – there aren’t many parts) I could give it a try by doing most of my admittedly small back garden.
It takes hours to charge the battery. You could either charge the battery the day before you use it, or immediately after use so its ready for next time.
Cordless is the way to go. I didn’t realise how much time I wasted unspooling before use and winding up after use until I didn’t have to. Now I click in the battery and go! And there’s no cord to trip over.
    Totally worth it. Recommend 100%

I don’t have much success with strimmers. I can never extend the thread or get them to work more than a minute without the thread breaking so I was really impressed that I managed to do the whole garden. The extendable height and steading handle was a bonus and not having a cable was great.

I use this at my allotment, takr me two batteries for about 1hrs cutting. Leaves a fairly decent cut but its not a formal garden. I wouldnt use this for anything large, the hand grip is tiresome and bulky. It does however automatically release the right amount of cord and is very light. Its just fair week for a strimme

Like the strimmer, however, find the presence of a wheel adversely affects the use of it..Can’t get a decent edge on my lawn as the wheel gets in the way and doesn’t allow close contact with the grass…just can’t see the point of the wheel! Couldn’t return the strimmer as I’d used it!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIt is such a relief to have a strimmer that works, may sound strange but not all do. The weight is just on the medium-high side, however, with the battery at one end and everything else down the other it is pretty balance. My old one just did not auto-feed, this one does a brilliant job. 2 things I have learnt, well 3 actually, don’t buy cheap, check on auto-feed and the thickness of the fibre must be > 1.4mm or else it struggles with anything with a hint of firmness. Oh, and battery lasts really well.

Bought this to replace a terraced one as packed up. This was voted as 3rd in the top ten strimmers and was a good price with 41 off, shopped around first before buying, battery doesn’t last as long as claimed so ordered a bigger one as have got a lot of dyke banks to strim as well as field edges around our house. Cuts well and you feel the auto line feed out, don’t no how long a reel will last but have a spare one.

Purchased this in November 2020 as an early Christmas present to ourselves, I used it for the first time this week, and I couldn’t be happier. It is so easy to use and as I have carpel tunnel the fact it is so light to handle a godsend. Took the top off our lawn very quickly and held its charge which is stated as 40 minutes. It means I will be able to use our mower with ease now that the hard part has been done.

This seems to work well, doing the edges needs a bit of practice but after that it can make a good job. Cable seems to last OK. A little bit heavier than my old cable one so as an older lady I cannot use it for too long but that is better than managing a cable. Battery has not needed charging yet after 3 sessions. Bought on special offer so I’m pleased overall

I have gone through about 4 strimmers in three years and the only one I liked finally packed in. I wanted to be cable-free as I’m getting on, after some research, this has pleasantly surprised me, easy to use and the self-feeder is a great thing. I bought the extra battery as I have a large lawn but I haven’t had to use it so now have a spare which will come in handy one day. Would definitely recommend it.

Love the wheel for doing edging work.
The run time is quite good and the battery is easy to charge. The run time is around 40 minutes on full charge and the design makes it easy to use and considering I have a debilitating back condition I found it pretty lightweight and it cuts pretty good attacking everything it co.es a Ross even rough weeds

I bought this to replace a Flymo which packed up after a month. There’s only one battery, but it has enough energy to strim round both my and my neighbours gardens. You just have to remember to remove the battery after use and recharge it. You can’t overcharge it, so I charge it after each use. The line is self feeding, and so far this has worked well, and I haven’t had to replace the cartridge yet.
So far as cutting is concerned it is just as good as my previous corded strimmer.

Great strimmer, so much better than the old ones, easy to use and holds its charge well….heavy strimming is ok for about 15-20 mins before the battery winds down. Charges very quickly with a useful blinking indicator light that goes constant when fully charged. Easy to connect the battery to and from the handle. Can hose off the grass and debris off the bottom without worry about the electrical bit. Really pleased with this tool. 5 stars overall, knocked one off for manoeuvring as the upside down position for edging
is a little tricky but I use edging shears anyway.

This is substantial piece of kit suggesting durability and reliability. We used it to mow down an area of wild flowers that had finished, mixed with grasses. The strimmer handled this well, providing you don’t give it too much to cut at a time. I did need to use shears on some tougher patches , then finish off with the strimmer to get a even cut. I haven’t used it a lot and the battery has lasted as long as needed. There is some vibration but not too noisy. Good product.

A great strimmer with an extendable pole. I’m 5ft 4 and need to extend the pole for comfort so it may not be as good for someone who is very tall. However it is great for my garden to cut edges as well as the lawn, if I don’t want to use the lawn mower.
Remember to charge up the night before using it as it takes a while to FULLY charge.

My strimmer arrived today, so it hasn’t exactly stood the test of time yet, but I am confident that it will be around for a long time to come.
This is a well made, quality item. Being mostly made out of hard plastic, I don’t think it’s likely to stand up to a lot of hard use or abuse, so it’s not really much good for a professional, but for the rest of us mortals it’s as good as they come.
I’m an engineer by profession, so I know a good product when I see one.
This is obviously old stock, making way for a new product, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t any good. It just means that you will be getting an absolute bargain at close to half price.
    Buy one while you can!!

I use this at my large allotment plot. It’s very light weight, east to get in and out of car and not intimating to use. Battery life is around 30ish minutes on full speed which is enough time to strim my plot. Won’t get through very thick established weeds or brambles as expected but can cut through most things with ease. Very pleased with it.

I have found this strimmer to be excellent. Powerful enough for course grass and weeds and the battery seems to last about 20 minutes which is ample for my edge. (52m measured distance.) The bump feed is excellent. The rate at which it uses line seems fine. Still on the first spool and I’ve used it a bit tice a week since I bought it (I do Mum’s garden as well). The telescopic design also means it goes in the car boot easily, which is important to me. (Mum lives a while away).

I recently purchased a Yardforce battery operated mower. Didn’t order a strimmer at the same time as I wanted to see how close to the edge the mower cut. Decided I did need one but the Yardforce one was out of stock so I went for the B & D model. I’m very happy with it. It’s lightweight, easy to use and finishes off the edges of the lawn beautifully. I only have a small area of lawn (15’x13′) but I’m sure it would have no problem coping with a much larger area.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersLike most people I hate the faddle of plugging in garden tools, then unplugging and doing the same all over again in the back garden – often multiple times for mower, strimmer etc. So I finally took the plunge and bought this one.
My old strimmer was a Black and Decker, and I’d never had a problem and this one was on special offer at c79, so I went for it.
    I’m so glad I did.
It’s a sensible weight, not too heavy but not too light.
The battery and charger are smaller than I thought but there is plenty of power.
I use it mainly for edging the lawns and I must have 170-200meters of edging, which it did without showing and sign of flagging.
Similarly cutting down small weeds and tidying up is also achieved easily.
I think it also uses the same spool as my old strimmer which is a plus and the auto feed seems to work really well.
I actually find I use it more than the wired one because it’s so much easier to grab and go.
If you’ve got a paddock to manage, don’t but this. But if you’ve got a reasonable sized garden and use it mainly for edging, then I can’t imagine you’d ever need anything more than this.

I just love this is battery and no wires as I had an electric one before and was often cutting through the cable. It charges up and lasts quite well. The first time I used it was this weekend on my daughters garden in a house she has just moved into and it is very overgrown so was a tough test. It cuts through great on all the long grass and thin weeds but the plastic cord that cuts everything got tangled up a few times in the rough weeds which is understandable as they were quite thick. Overall quite pleased with it.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersThere are other cheaper cordless strimmers but I wanted a well built one that was robust, easy to use and had a decent battery life. After reading the reviews I decided to splash out on this Black and Decker model. I have not been disappointed it has been great to use and has lived up to my expectations. If buying a bit of kit like this it is worth getting a bit better quality as it will pay in the longer term as I have found to my cost before when thinking I could save money and still be satisfied. With tools generally that is never the case and especially garden tools which do get hard use. This strimmer has different settings allowing easy change of strimmer head position, different lengths so you can get a comfortable position standing upright not bending. The handle is well positioned and comfortable to use as well all this is important if spending time trimming lawn edges etc. It is light and easy to manoeuvre as well. Battery life has not yet let me down either. I can now zoom round my lawn edging in minutes before it took me ages and left me with an aching back. Highly recommend this strimmer.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersOk, so, first things first. I’m a complete novice with these things. I’ve never used a grass trimmer or lawn mower or whatever before. I’ve always used cutlass but was really getting tired of cutting grasses manually so decided to get something to make the job easier. So you can imagine, had nobody to ask what to buy nor how to use them. I started searching amazon for grass trimmers and all sorts of things came up. Then I realized there were corded ones, petrol ones and electric and cordless with batteries and all that , wow. Well, I’m into gadgets a lot and love my cordless range so decided to try the latter. I selected few and whittled it down to this: Black and decker, basing my choice on reviews. It didn’t disappoint. Once I got it out of the box, I fixed in the part that came with it and screwed it in, half way (it won’t go down any further ), charged the battery, next day, proceeded to use it for the first time but then realised I couldn’t get it switched on. So I went into YouTube to watch a couple of videos which set me off. To switch it on, you have to depress the left button on the side near the switch on button together with this switch on button. It has 2 settings. 1 is for light grown grasses. 2 is for denser growth. I used both at different time depending on where I had lighter and dense growth. I still don’t know how the spool string works. I guess I’ll have to learn whilst I go along with it. First trial wasn’t bad. I probably didnt get to the bottom of the grasses but it did a good job. I do however find the cleaning a bit worrying. There’s really no way to clean it properly? U can’t wash it, you can’t use any harsh liquid on it, and I was really tempted to put it under the tap as it had a lot of grass stuff on it. But I ended up using a hard brush to remove the stuff. My garden is a medium sized one, so one full charged battery did it. I’m not very great with land measurements in metrics unfortunately, I’m sorry, so I can’t tell how big my garden is in metrics. But I could spend about 10mins using this trimmer to do it so u work it out. The trimmer is not very great with flower branches hanging over my fence from another flat, not expecting it to be cos it’s not meant for that. I am yet to know how the spool string works. Like how long it will last and when I need to replace it and all that cos right now, I have no idea what I’m doing. I’m just watching while I use it to see what happens. But I will definitely recommend this product. Especially for a beginner too! It comes with an 18v battery and the cable charger.

Nice bit of kit. Only used once so far but worked perfectly. The wheel did not get in the way of edging against stone and wooden fences- as per a couple of reviews I read before buying. Cut the grass well. Auto feeder works perfectly so far. Light and easy to use. I’ve had cheap line fed strimmers before and vowed never to get another-but I’m glad i did ( so far). My most recent prior strimmer had the plastic blades. Admittedly sometimes they flew out which was frustrating…until the manufacturer must have been aware and upgraded the head unit ( which I had to replace after it broke). It would now retail at a similar price to the Black and Decker ( previous one being a cordless Bosch Art) but I would recommend this one over the Bosch. Happy strumming!

I bought this item because I had enough of my 2 stroke petrol strimmer, noisy, hard to start and above all having to mix the petrol and oil. This electric strimmer is an absolutely joy to use and so easy and clean. We have large garden and it tackled all the edges and over grown patches with ease on a full charge and did not run out. Fully recommend this item – it even has an auto feed cable! Excellent value for money.

The trimmer is good light weight and works well. It suits what I need for the garden I have. I barely
have it 2 years and the charger has stopped working and there is only 12 months warranty with the product.
I would have given all 5 stars but for this problem.

This is an OK piece of kit and represents good price/performance. I’ve tried a few trimmers and there are definitely better products for 50-100 more (Makita for example).

The B&D is a bit weak — fine for reasonably well-maintained lawn edges and verges etc but not up to bigger jobs. The main reasons for this are the cutting power is lacking and the battery doesn’t last very long on the higher power setting. I suspect the batteries on trimmers at this price point are probably the biggest cost to the manufacturer and this is a 2 Ah unit (as low as they seem to go). I did try to buy a WORX trimmer at the same price from Amazon with 2x2Ah batteries and good reviews but for some reason they won’t ship (covid logistical issues perhaps?).

My garden is about 15m x 20m without loads of beds and it’s just fine for that. If you have something bigger or have lots of beds, I’d recommend something with a 4 Ah battery. Mine also didn’t come with a strap, so I have to support the weight (although not much) with my arms.

The other thing to consider is whether you’re going to buy other power tools that will use the same battery.

I’ve had numerous strimmers over the years, ranging from small electric to big powerful petrol but this one fits my needs perfectly. We have a large garden and maintenance is a daily requirement during the summer and this product fits the bill perfectly. OK the battery only lasts about 25 minutes when you’re using it flat out but that’s enough for me anyway and a great excuse to come in for a drink. It recharges fairly quickly and then you can get back out and finish the job. I love it!

Excellent strimmer! Purchased it with the battery. Lightweight and easy to use without being flimsy. Cuts through grass, nettles, thorns with ease. Offers precision when cutting and doing edges too. Yes it costs a little more than some others and more than a corded one but t’s a pleasure to use and makes life so much easier having it battery based and not corded.

I bought this for my hubby for Father’s Day, arrive on time and it’s just what he wanted easy to use and put together as there is only one screw to do. Charging is easy and with the automatic feed there is no fiddly pulling out of cord so your not stop, starting. We bought this when it was on offer but it’s been a really good buy so I would by one again.

This product is amazing. Our garden is off from our property so cutting the grass is a really problem. With this trimmer my partner can cut the grass with ease. On average I would say you get about 20 to 30 min running time with a fully charged battery. Best bit is if you have other Black and Becker product that has the same battery you can just change over the battery. This trimmer is really lightweight and really easy to use, it as a wheel on it so you can make nice edges and it doesn’t make so much noise. Its a great tool.

This machine arrived very quickly and when tried it was easy to handle but not suitable for long grass
The reason for purchasing this machine was that it was recommended to take a cutting blade which was purchased alongside the
Black and Decker but to date this has not been attached and can find no way of attaching the blade
Pleased with this machine but disappointed that it’s purpose wasn’t possible

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI have been using a basic Flymo strimmer for sometime but it finally went bust. I thought I would give this black and decker cordless s trimmer a try. Unfortunately I can’t get on as well with it as the old flymo. The main problem is that the edging wheel stops me from getting close to the wall. The benefit of not having to play around with a lead goes without saying. I will play around with it until I can get used to the wheel. I will try a vertical cut against the wall instead of a horizontal cut. So far Im just a tad disappointed but will hopefully overcome as otherwise it works quite well and I have successfully strimmed the wild part of my garden.

Only used once so far and it certainly cut down the time I spend edging the lawn. It is going to take a little time getting to know it, first attempt I managed to take a chunk out of the lawn whilst edging, but practice makes perfect. On rough grass I was a little disappointed, but again I think again I need more practice. All in all very good.

Nice size and weight, easy to handle, and it’s fine for keeping on top of trimming. Not powerful enough for rough vegetation, but I didn’t expect it to be – I have a petrol strimmer for that. The battery doesn’t last as long as I’d expected from the product description, but it’s been up to the jobs I’ve asked of it. I can always buy a second battery, after all.

Bought this cheapie for quick strimming round the edges before mowing. I’m used to a petrol strimmer and was surprised how well it worked, and how long it lasted on a charge. Yes, it’s light, plastic, and feels fragile. But after four uses I haven’t wrecked it and it continues to do a good job. It’s easy to gauge where it’s going when edging and its lower power compared to petrol is an advantage since it is quite forgiving if I wander off line occasionally! And I’ve even attacked the banks (grassy that is) with surprisingly good results, and no wrapping round with long grass like old smokey. Bought a bulk supply of spools and will pick up another battery so I can do the whole garden in one go. My only quibble is the recharging time but the extra battery is quite cheap.

I bought this for my daughter who has a big garden. It is brilliant. Easy to use, quick change to cut the tall grass or trim the edges of the lawn. The wheels made edging the lawn very easy. A good battery life too. It has a large spool so hopefully will last a long dime before needing a replacement. Ti feeds very well. very pleased

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersMy husband always chose our grass trimmers, and they were large heavy duty cumbersome tools. Much to heavy for me to use comfortably. As I do most of the gardening, I chose a trimmer suitable for a woman. This trimmer is light weight and cordless, and does the job perfectly well. The stem of the trimmer can be shortened according to a persons height, and the trimmer can be rotated to either trim around trees hedges etc or be wheeled along an edge for perfect edging. As it becomes a quick job to do, the life on the battery is enough to complete a moderate size gardens work. I love i

I managed to clear an area approx. 100m2 with 1 foot high weeds, with relative ease and in around 45 minutes. I didn’t need to recharge the battery during that usage period and I had it set on the ‘Turbo’ setting, rather than ‘Eco’. It has a little wheel that you can run along walls or fencing and it cuts the edges really well. The neck is adjustable, it’s easy to do and it has a large extension range so you can avoid getting a back back if you’re a bit taller. I was going to get a cheap and cheerful strimmer from Argos, but I’m glad I paid a bit more for this.

I bought this battery strimmer as it was impracticable for a mains one to to cover an acre of grass. I can cut all the edges and the steps without a recharge on the ‘ eco’ setting – I haven’t needed to use the turbo setting as the lower setting gets through almost everything so far. The automatic line feed is great and works well.

My only critisism is that the strimmer head should rotate for left handed use like an angle grinder one does. The shaft rotates for the borders and the roller works well for the edges. You get used to it but it’s something you notice being left handed.

Overall I’m very impressed and it’s well worth the money

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersFinally decided I could not continue with a Bosch ART23-18 cordless strimmer/edger because the very expensive blades kept on breaking on contact with wall/fence/stones. Therefore, had to revert to a cord type strimmer and this appeared to fit the bill. Just given it it’s first outing and have to commend everything about it. It strims and edges beautifully. Converting between strim and edge is simply a twist. Adjusting the height is a simple twist/lock. Done some fairly heavy work and did not have to attend to the spool once – which I thought was fantastic. Battery was still going strong after 30 minutes of both std and turbo power setting. All in all, this is a fantastic tool – very pleased.

This replaces my previous B & D strimmer. Looked at others, but off-unit battery charging still a winner for me. Heavier than previous one but seems solid & very well made. Be careful when removing wrapping – battery is held on handle by split moulded card box. This came open and battery dropped to floor, but has been OK. Battery insertion and removal much easier than before.
Minimal assembly but guard took a bit of persuasion to slot on and fixing hole didn’t line up too well.
Otherwise good and powerful for my medium size lawn. JBC

Golden Review Award: 57 From Our UsersI have held off buying any cordless garden products til now and have always used petrol or electric. My last Black n Decker electric trimmer is five years old and still works but cuts out all the time due to a break in the cable by the handle. I was going to buy one the same but noticed this cordless option and decided to try it. It arrived nearly fully assembled other than the guard which needed one screw. Took a minute to complete. Charged up the battery and ready to go. I have a decent sized garden with a rear grass ( weed) field bank and a smaller grass bank to the front. I haven’t cut the banks since October. The unit has two power settings, eco and boost. The latter runs down the battery much faster. On Eco it is fine for all normal use, trimming the lawn edges around the garden and on long grass on the bank. But for thicker weeds you really need to use the boost setting. It done all the work with two charges and even though it is not as powerful as the electric trimmer, but it done the job and of course no lead getting in the way which is great and makes it so much easier. My garden isn’t big enough to warrant buying a petrol trimmer so this is certainly worth buying. The battery from flat took about 4 to 5 hours to fully charge and lasted for about 40 minutes.

This is an excellent machine. Very easy to charge as the battery slides out of the handle and you can charge it indoors while keeping the strimmer in the shed. I don’t really know how long the charge lasts but I have used it a few times in full power mode and it hasn’t run out. It’s powerful and trims the grass, that’s what I wanted it to do!

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersOverall, I love this strimmer. I have used a Bosch cordless one that is utter rubbish. I have literally been dithering over buying a cordless one for years because of the Bosch. But after reading a review of strimmers, this one was placed 2nd under a more expensive black and decker model. I decided that this one should suffice and in theory offered better value for money. It is slightly irritating not being able to do the whole garden in one hit, but overall, I am not disappointed with it. It does a great job.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersProbably the nicest strimmer I have used. Light, very quiet, but still feels robust. Easy to assemble out of the box and to install/remove battery. I have a 2/3 acre garden with lots of areas the mower can’t reach yet I am finding this strimmer gets around it all in one charge. And the self-feeding line is a great bonus so you never seem to be stopping and fiddling with the line as with many of the other strimmers I have used. Highly recommended.

So far so good. Easy to use and works well cutting the edges of the lawns with it in both positions. Battery took a few hours to charge before use, but easily lasts to cut all lawns, both ways. (about 500sq.m. of lawns). Holds charge well between cuts. Can’t comment yet on how long the spool lasts or ease of replacement.

Golden Review Award: 208 From Our UsersI bought this strimmer particularly for light strimming around trees, shrubs, lawn edges, and awkward corners etc. that I cannot get to with the lawn mower. I already own a petrol powered ‘proper’ strimmer, but as it is quite large and cumbersome it is best suited for strimming rough ground like e.g. banks and verges etc.

What I love about his strimmer, and the reason I decided to buy it, is that it is very lightweight, quick to grab from the shed when needed, and once the smaller jobs are done it goes right back into the shed, where it takes up very little space. Tilting the rotary head on the drive shaft will allow you to do some edge trimming in the vertical plane, supported by the little plastic wheel, which I have not really used yet but might come in quite handy too.

With 15-20 minutes of strimming I have not yet managed to completely drain the battery pack. The initial charge, and following charges, seems to take in the area of two hours (after 15-20 minutes of strimming) in order to achieve a full charge, which is a little bit disappointing as my Dewalt batteries of twice the capacity or more will charge in around 20 minutes. I suspect that the longish charge time is down to the very little, and likely very basic charger that comes with this kit. On a positive note my strimming requirements with this strimmer have never required me recharging the battery to complete a job, so the longish charge time is of no consequence to me. Also, if I understood the instructions correctly, it is recommended that the battery is left on the plugged in charger when not in use, and it will switch to trickle charging when fully charged.

With a lot of lower grade plastic going into the production of this tool I would not recommend it for commercial or heavy duty use, where it might get knocked to bits very quickly, but for the little jobs around most domestic gardens it is a very handy little tool, that will probably last for a long time if looked after. It comes with a 2 year warranty and outside of the warranty I doubt that it would be feasible to have the tool repaired if it breaks down, as it will likely be cheaper to simply buy a new one.

Use this for edging around my lawn and also for cutting grass on narrow banks where too cumbersome to take mower. Auto line feed works great. More than enough power for my uses. The bundled 18V battery seems small but I have managed only once to drain it completely during use. The charger that comes in the kit is VERY slow, taking approx. 4 hours to fully charge, so recommend an overnight charge before you have to use it.

Golden Review Award: 36 From Our UsersFor a battery strimmer this is quite a workhorse but coupled with the BLACK+DECKER CM100-XJ 3-in-1 Lawn Mower Deck Attachment you have an ultralight go anywhere lawnmower! It looks silly but believe me it does the job. I have a steep (too steep to stand on) bank which nothing would cut nicely until I bought these. The wheels enable a level finish at all times. Golden Review Award: 83 From Our UsersOne of the best things I have bought for the garden in years! I got fed up with long trailing cables and this product is really superb. We have a large garden with a lot of grass borders. Select the vertical edge trimmer (the unit has a useful wheel so it is held at the right height) and the edges are cleanly cut. Adjust it to horizontal cutting and you can complete it for areas up to walls etc. The self feeding mechanism is working well so you don’y have to constantly feed new cutting cable out. Battery last as long as I need for this garden and in case recharges quickly. Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersI bought this strimmer hoping that it would be powerful enough for the job .. and I wasn’t let down at all .. I have a relatively large garden and wondered if it would be up to the job.
    IT WAS!
It worked great!! .. I used it for a solid 15 minutes and the battery showed no sign of reduction in power at all .. ok its not as powerful as the petrol strimmers .. but then its not going to be .. its a battery run strimmer! But it does exactly what its supposed to do .. its strims the edges and perfectly cut my border edges. The small guide wheel holds the strimmer in the perfect spot to cut edges and the autofeed runs without any issues what so ever. I have to say I did doubt that part of it too, but again I have been left to eat my words.
To summarise … I love this strimmer.
