Which oil should be used with the chainsaw?

Bosch’s chainsaw oil should be used. This will allow effective automatic self-lubrication of the tool to ensure smooth running. Part number: 2607000181.

Why can’t I start my chainsaw?

The product features a kickback brake in the forward position, this is a safety device to ensure the product will not start. Once the product is plugged in, make sure the kickback brake is pulled back and disengaged before pressing the trigger.

How do I know if my chain needs replacing? Where can I get a replacement chain?

If the sawdust is very fine then it is likely the chain is blunt. If the chain needs sharpening, it should be done by a trained professional. In case a new chain is needed, Chain 35cm: F016800257.

Will this cut through wooden railway sleepers 200 mm by 200 mm?

The tool’s cutting capacity is 300mm, it would be able to cope with this task. It is recommended that you ensure the chain is sharp and be aware of inorganic objects in the wood such as nails. In case the wood is coated, a dust mask should be used.

Is there a storage case for the chainsaw?

No. It is recommended to remove the chain and bar and clean debris from underneath the cover and store in a dry environment alongside other outdoor tools.

This chainsaw was bought primarily to cut a large shrub to ground level. The wood was unexpectedly hard and difficult to saw by hand. This Bosch chainsaw was straightforward to assemble and proved effective, despite taking some time to complete the work.

The unit seems robust and felt safe for a novice like me.

I’ve held off buying a chainsaw until now, having borrowed my son’s of the same model.
Light, easy to use and not too noisy.
It cut green 200mm diam Cherry logs easily, not too fast and not too noisy.

This is my second Bosch chain saw, which replaced my previous one, which had a slightly smaller chain (30cm), and had literally worn out, after many years use! This replacement Bosch chain saw has a 35cm chain and is more refined to make it much easier to install the chain and tighten. (do make sure that the chain is installed the right way round though!) It cuts a treat and well worth the cost.

Careful construction with patience. Once together, correct oil purchased and in side tank – it worked an absolute dream. Clean out wood bits and dust after!!

Fiddly chain tensioner. Saw feels powerful enough but supplied chain was blunt within two minutes of use.
I am trying to cut a 6″ Laurel trunk, not a steel lamp-post! Will see if a replacement Oregon chain is any better. I thought the chain should survive at least one cut! Disappointed. I am a fan of Bosch and expect better than this.

I’ve been able to cut down a huge overgrown apple tree in my garden with the use of this saw. It is not the biggest or toughest available but it is very capable of dealing with large trees. The height was about standard semi-detached sized house roof and almost twice the width of the saw reach. The key I found was take it slow, use the locating teeth to walk the saw slowly across the branches and trunk. You also have to adjust the tension often and keep it topped up with oil or you will have issues and you don’t want a lose chain flying about. The light weight was helpful as the access to the trunk was not easy.

    Very capable saw

I got this for my mum, it was her birthday and I was stuck for what to give her but autumn was advancing rapidly and she needed wood cutting for seasoning to replace the previous tranche.

It was really easy to put together, the battery carried a little charge but was topped up to full before using which was done overnight. Making sure not to over-tighten the chain, and liberally lubricating links, we were good to go.

My stepdad did all the work, personally, I don’t trust myself to use power tools! He was done with about half an hour of chopping and the battery held up just fine. The great thing about battery power is there is no need to start an engine like on a petrol saw, it just goes.

My hubby often complains about how the garden is overgrown, he’s only got hand shears and as a result spends hours out there battling with it. So I was keen to try out this chainsaw and see if it would be any good for us.

It arrived well packaged and he found it reasonably easy to put together, the first time took a little while as he’s never used a saw like this before. Unfortunately he did spill oil over our floor as he found the oil chamber cover a bit fiddly and didn’t think to do it outside..! It’s worth noting the oil you need for this is sold separately but I found it easily on amazon for a good price.

Once outside we found it easy to switch on and get using. Considering it’s electric it’s still very powerful and extremely responsive. Within a couple of minutes he had quickly taken down a large bush which would have previously taken him an hour or so to cut back. The saw makes quite a lot of noise and mess so hearing protection and appropriate clothing is needed.

Once he’d finishing using the saw he was able to promptly take it apart and clean it up. The only thing he moaned about was how his arm ached from holding up the saw, saves a trip to the gym at least!

Overall I think for the price this is a great investment, a powerful tool with quick assembly and great results. We would happily recommend it.

    Saves a lot of time!

Cuts really well and not overly heavy. Doesn’t come with the required oil so will have to buy extra. Easy to assemble. Makes short work of logs. Largest i tried was about a foot in diameter. Did pretty well for an electric chain saw.

This came without the chain saw teeth fitted. It was a 10min job to fit these so not something that was a big deal. For the price, a good branded chainsaw. It works well and as expected. One of the other points to note is that it does not come with any oil, which you need to lubricate the chain before you can start. A tip – if you don’t have the oil and don’t want to go and buy some, canola (rapeseed) oil is a commonly used alternative – and a lot cheaper. I used this and it worked completely fine with the added benefit of being environmentally friendly. Maybe not a consideration for some, but is something I am keen on.

We also have used a Stihl cordless chain saw – which is smaller overall and lighter. I see that there could be some difference between this if you’re attempting large branches (this may be better) or doing lots of work above shoulder height (maybe the lightest chainsaw you can find would be better!) or work far away from a socket (clearly cordless is a better choice) but overall, a good product which works well and is decent quality – not top of the range of the quality a professional gardener might use, but perfect for us recreational gardeners who don’t want to pay for someone to do simple job that we didn’t have the tools for. worth having a chainsaw for lots of things, especially useful if you have a log burner or firepit and are cutting back trees etc.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI had been planning to buy a chainsaw myself for quite some time as we have a big tree in our front garden which is almost dead and needs to be taken out. We have tried using other tools but it has not worked. After taking a professional opinion, we found out that it requires to be cut first and then it will be easier to dig out the stump. This looked quite good and was from a trusted brand “Bosch” so I decided to order it.

It arrived fairly quickly and when I saw the package, I thought it was much smaller than I had imagined. I wanted to try it out immediately but due to the bad weather I had to wait until last week to try it out.

When I took it out of the package, it looked really compact and it was quite lightweight as well. I was able to pick it up with just 1 hand. It felt quite sturdy in the hand though which gave me a bit of confidence as this was my first time using a chainsaw.

I read all the instructions provided and they were quite detailed and well laid out with pictures to show all the steps that need to be followed and ensure safety. I also realised that the chainsaw needs oil to run which was not included so I had to rush to a nearby DIY store to buy the oil. I was not able to find such a tiny amount of oil so decided to buy a 1L bottle so that it can be used in future as well. It would have been great if the some oil was provided either inside the machine or a separate bottle inside the package.

After adding the oil, there was not much left to do in terms of assembly. The only assembly required is to install the chain which is a bit tricky but by following the instructions, I was able to do it in a few minutes. After this, the chainsaw was ready for use.

I tried it out first on a hedge to test if I had got everything right and it went through it like a hot knife through butter. I was able to quickly cut the hedge in the shape that I was looking for. It was quite loud and the chain turned very fast but it did the job pretty well.

I then moved on to the tree and started on one side. The chain saw was able to cut through it but it required a lot of effort from my end to keep it steady as it was a rather large trunk. It was not as I had seen in other videos and it took a lot of time to move through the trunk. It almost took me around an hour to cut it fully. I could see that it didnt cut as smoothly as I was hoping. As I had to take the chainsaw out a few times, it was not a single cut but actually a combination of cuts.

Ultimately it did the job but if you have a heavy or a larger tree to cut, it might be best to get a professional one or hire a professional to do the cut for you.

Overall, I feel that it is quite good for a beginner to use and learn but for heavy duty jobs, it is not really suitable. 4 stars from me.

I’ve never owned a chainsaw but this is simple to assemble and use. I’ve got some unruly trees that needed cutting back a bit and this is just perfect for this purpose. It cuts through easily and being fairly lightweight it wasn’t too difficult to cut at head height. When you take your finger off the button it stops immediately, which makes me feel very safe.

The Bosch electric chainsaw has to be assembled with three separate parts that have to be attached to the main body. The assembly is easy and takes about 10 minutes, and no tools are required for the assembly. The chainsaw doesn’t come with any oil, so this will have to be purchased before using. I will attach a link at the end of my review for the recommended oil. In the box you also get a extension cable that attaches to the chainsaws 2 pin plug and lead. The extension cable has a 2 pin adapter at one end, and a 3 pin uk plug at the other end. The cable length measures approximately 23.9 feet or 7.28 m. The chainsaw takes approximately 250 mL of oil, which is easy to fill and maintain. The chainsaw is well-balanced and ways in just over 4 kg. The safety features and operation of the chainsaw all work very well and easy. The chain tension is easy to adjust, And the manual is thick but there is a quick start guide which is easy to follow. I have been using the chainsaw for cutting small logs for the wood burner, as winter is coming and need to stock up.link for oil, Bosch 2607000181 Chainsaw Oil for Bosch AKE Chainsaws, Biodegradable, 1 L, amazon.co.uk, 15:11 Link. I hope you have found my review helpful.

When I saw this chainsaw was up for review, I was keen to try it as I have some garden bushes that need cutting back. Me and my husband were looking for something that was easy to use and lightweight.

    Bar length: 35cm
    Oil capacity: 0.25 L
    Chain speed: 12 m/s
    Cutting capacity: 300mm

I was pleased to see that upon opening the box, there is a quick start guide. The actual instruction manual is rather large as it covers many languages, but I found the quick start guide was more than enough information to get going.

The Chainsaw is easy to assemble — the quick start guide lays this all out clearly and you don’t need any additional tools, which is a great start.

The safety features are very good — this isn’t a heavy duty chainsaw and it feels light and is easy to handle. Great for someone who hasn’t used one before, or just need something for branches and cut backs, firewood and logs — as opposed to taking down a whole tree.

The oil is easy to fill via the side chamber. Biodegradable oil is preferred by the manufacturer.

Overall, a very impressive chainsaw that feels safe and is easy to use. Myself and my husband had a great experience with it and managed to get all the jobs we needed doing easily and safely. 5 out of 5 from us without any hesitation.

This Bosch chainsaw is great for non professional and domestic usage. It’s light weight and powerful. Very decent size and weight only 4.2kg which makes this chainsaw perfect for domestic usage. I already have a chainsaw which is definitely bigger in size and obviously more powerful but that’s the one is for professionals, and I’m really impressed with the quality of this new chainsaw.

Very easy to assemble but please make sure you do everything right if this is your first time of assembling a chainsaw. This can be dangerous.

Smooth cutting and vibration is not much, even doesn’t make much noise as compared to my old one. Chain blades are really sharp and comes with a plastic cover.

Overall a great toll to have for people with big garden full of trees.

We already own a well known brand of chainsaw in both electric and petrol. We cut our own firewood every year so our chainsaws see a fair amount of use. So this chainsaw had its work cut out.

At 100 pounds I wasn’t expecting a lot (our electric one cost almost double that) and ok, this chainsaw isn’t pretty or sleek as our other one but in fairness it’s perfectly functional and pretty robust actually. It’s got a decent size oil reservoir. Absolutely necessary if you want to keep any edge on your blade. I would say that this saw is ideal for the home with a large garden to maintain. We had a 30 ft section of hedge we had to cut down to a more manageable height so we used the opportunity to put this saw through its paces. The hedge ranged from straggly branches about 1-2 inches diameter and half a dozen or so larger trunks maybe 6 inches diameter. This saw coped really well with all that and it was in use for the entire afternoon without putting a foot wrong.

I’ve only every brought one particular well known blade up until now having never tried the Oregon blade that this is supplied with and I have to say, both my husband and I were really impressed with the quality of them and would be happy to purchase in future having tried them this time.

An important safety feature on any chainsaw is that the second you take your finger off the power the blade must stop dead, and that is the case with this saw. The blade stops on a sixpence whilst the motor winds down more gently. Of course you have the safety switch too that if pushed forward by the hand it cuts out too. Absolutely vital of the saw kicks. This all worked perfectly. I will post a video of this shortly but the weather was closing in and we wanted to get the job finished.

A couple of observations, this is sold with the metal teeth which you only normally get on the professional saws in some other makes. Often entry level/ home models are often plastic.

Time will tell if this saw will do well over the long term, but certainly it’s a great little saw for work around the large garden at the very least. At 100 you really can’t go wrong. In the box you get everything ready to start bar the chain oil. Brilliant!

This is a fantastic little chainsaw which is incredibly powerful despite its size! We’d only ever used petrol chainsaws before and my very old one had become blunt and more unreliable and I desperately needed a new one to sort out my garden i’m renovating so this has been ideal.

This does require some assembly before use, but the instructions are very clear and my partner knew exactly what to do and how to adjust it all and it didn’t take him too long until he was ready to use it. This does require oil which isn’t included so be sure to have that ready too. There’s a gague to see how full the oil is and it’s simple to fill.

We’ve used this to successfully cut away a tree stump that we’ve been trying to manually saw through for some time and this made light work of it and have been cutting away over hanging branches with ease. It’s very lightweight, doesn’t make your arm feel tired after a long use, even when dealing with high up branches and cuts out as soon as bar isn’t held so feels as safe as a chainsaw can be!

Amazing, powerful little chainsaw and exactly what we needed to get our garden jobs done. Great for smaller work, nice and compact and light. Recommended.

This is a perfect chain saw for domestic jobs. I’ve got a mature tall hedge at the bottom of my garden, and my big hedge trimmer wouldn’t cope with it any more as some of the trunks are 8cm thick.

This chainsaw is a breeze to use and sliced through the trunks effortlessly. Very impressive. See photo part way through the job.

It doesn’t come with oil, and you need to add some before using it. It’s very easy to fill the oil tank.

It’s a bit fiddly getting the chain on, and it took a bit of getting used to the tension required to stop the chain falling off in use. But I quickly got used to it.

A very small gripe: the plastic shield for the saw is quite thin, and I’ve already managed to split it slightly as shown in photo.

    Fantastic chain saw

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWhen this arrived i was not sure what to expect, I have used many petrol chainsaws but never a electric powered one.

There is a very easy to follow instruction sheet regards to fitting the bar and chain and how to tighten the tension and i did this in about 10 minutes. The chainsaw does not come with the oil so this will need to be purchased separately before you can use it.

I then filled the oil tank up and you can see how much is in there by looking at the clear section just behind the handle on the tank itself. I then decided to give this a test on some branches i removed from a tree a few months back. I was instantly impressed with how powerful and easy the chainsaw cut through the branch with no problems at all, It is quite loud but when using this protective equipment should be worn.

This is not your heavy duty chainsaw that you could cut a whole tree down but it is perfect for the smaller branches and cutting logs for fires. You are limited to where you can use it due to it being electric but the wire provided is adequate for most garden uses.

To tighten the tension is very easy and done by turning the grey dial this is brilliant as it does not require any tool to do this. There is a safety feature which is the kickback brake which is activated by pushing it forward and this instantly stops the chain and has to be pulled back again for use.

Once i had used this i did find woodchips in the cover where the chain tension mechanism is so this would be something to keep a eye on for long period of uses and might require a quick clean every few cuts.

Overall this is a fantastic tool and would highly recommend it with the fact its very easy to use and also great value.

    Great electric powered chainsaw

A very versatile universal chainsaw which is suitable for limbing, small to medium felling and for general wood cutting.

Very simple to assemble. The front sockets allows for it to be used for horizontal cuts and for vertical cuts for felling.

The very useful SDS feature allows for rapid tool free assembly and maintenance of the tension with the use of any keys.

Theres a quick release safely break for relative newbies, with a chain speed of 12m/s for a pretty decent performance for medium performance use. It’s lightweight with a well balanced feel and comfortable for a labourious day with the non-slip rubberised handle giving you the all important traction.

It has a pretty good capacity to the side access oil tank at .25litre with a 1800 W motor speed and a 35cm cutting length.

The best oil for this chainsaw and to ensure good usage and durability, I would purchase . Bosch 1 Litre biodegradable chainsaw oil.

Its a very good compact and easy to handle chainsaw that would be suitable for light to medium use, well balanced and very worthy of the price.

It is a perfect chainsaw for small works around the house. Already tried to cut some wood ( It was not too thick around 20 cm logs ) for a fire pit and it went through as a hot knife goes through the butter. However, one little warning it does not come with oil included, which caught me by surprise so needed to go and buy in the shop.
About a chain saw itself it was straightforward to set it up does not require any tools and assemble are explained really good in a provided instructions. Furthermore, and what’s the best feature of this chain don’t need any tools to tension a chain. Can do it easily just by rotating a button. The safety system works well as well; it stops instantly. As well it is quite light, so will not get tired too fast if using it for too long. The electric cord could be longer, but it is same for all the electric chainsaws. It does not use too much oil, in comparing to my old one as I needed to stop every 15 minutes to refill, but this one has a bigger tank for it, so maybe this is why. However, even by being electric, it is really loud. As well then cutting a wood chips gets accumulated in a plastic cover, where a chain tension device is, so if using it for a long time and for larger amounts a cleaning of what place is a must. Overall it is a good tool to have at the garage, to cut some small logs for a fire pit at winter. But its not powerful enough to cut like proper trees and logs.

I’ve an old electric chainsaw that, quite frankly, scares the bejesus out of me. Having a few old trees that need pruning or removal I’ve been putting the work off for a while now.

Getting this new Bosch chainsaw was a godsend. I feel I can tackle anything now!

In the (large) box you get the chainsaw body, the chain arm, chain, body and chain cover and a lead. The instruction book is quite a beast, but is on over 1000 languages. There’s a quick-start guide too, which is really all you need if you’ve used one before.

Assembly is easy, you put the chain on the arm (noting the correct orientation as in the diagram) and turn the round dial clockwise to move it up the arm and effectively give you more loose chain. You then put the chain on the cog, a threaded bar goes through the wheel and you’re almost done. Add the body cover and all that’s needed it to tension up the chain turning the outer (grey) dial. The extension lead is a two-pronged affair with a nice cap to cover the ‘live’ end when you disconnect it.

There are tips on getting the adjustment right, but it’s all quite simple. You need to add chainsaw oil before use, or the chain will wear out pretty quick and it will clatter a lot.

    Operation is simple. Ensure the kickback bar (the black lever that looks like a handle) is pulled back towards the front handle, press the side button in and squeeze the lever. Assuming it’s plugged in, that is 🙂 This feels safe because;

    * It’s moderately quiet and has few vibrations.
    * The kickback handle will stop it if it flies up towards you.
    * There’s a mechanism to stop the chain as soon as you power off, even though the motor is still winding down.
    * It’s light, so you won’t get tired using it and make mistakes.

Cutting is smooth on a new blade, so it’s now a joy to use. It’s a shame there’s no oil supplied, although I can understand why not. A 6 bottle should last a while, or use their biodegradable oil for twice the price but it’s environmentally friendly and won’t damage your garden.

Not needing any tools to assemble or keep the correct tension is a great boon in chainsaw technology. Apart from still being a dangerous tool, it’s much more accessible and easy to use than you would think. Just ensure you have goggles, gloves, sturdy clothes, ear defenders and possibly a hard hat before use.

Simple to use - it actually feels safe .
