Bosch Home and Garden Random Orbit Sander PEX 220 A (220 W, in carton packaging)

Excellent Material Removal Rate

The Bosch PEX 220 A is a powerful random orbit sander that excels due to its high material removal rate. However, this system from Bosch is so handy that it can also be used for ‘tricky’ sanding and polishing tasks, for example in hard-to-reach areas or on surfaces with curves.

Low Fatigue Working

The Bosch PEX 220 A random orbit sander is equipped with a powerful 220 watt motor. With dimensions of 347 x 70 x 220 millimetres (length x width x height) and a weight of 1.4 kilograms, this sanding system is compact and therefore easy to use.

Clean Working Area

The PEX 220 A also features the microfilter system developed by Bosch. The built-in dust extraction element collects dust directly at the workpiece and feeds it into the supplied microfilter box. The advantage of this is that sanding can also be performed in furnished rooms.

Save Tme With Easy Fastening

Velcro-type fastening for fast and convenient sanding sheet changes.

I’ve had Sanders over the years and relied upon them for many paint prep and other jobs such a tool would be good for. Buying this opened my eyes, certainly when the subject timber may not already be flat. A fantastic piece of kit, well worth the money and will provide good finishes every time.

Amazing product. Been a fan of bosch for many years due to their quality builds and materials.
Bought this for a recent renovation job at home for sanding the walls down.
Easy to use and clean after.
Does the job really well and a amazing buy and price on amazon.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI bought this having read numerous reviews and I’m really pleased that I have it. It’s light, relatively quiet and does the job really well. The dust collector is surprisingly effective – I’ve been sanding Yew [which is poisonous] and almost everything was sucked straight into the dust bag, which fits well and is easy to empty out into a bin.
Someone has said they were disappointed that the sander only comes with one sanding disc, but that’s clear in the description; I bought some Stebruams also from Amazon which fit perfectly, so that didn’t bother me at all.
Can’t recommend this sander highly enough – at the price-point, it’s just perfect.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersReally easy to use, and no setup is required. However you only get 1 sample sanding sheet, you would have thought at the price point you would of got a selection of discs of different grits

I’m not sure if you can buy a better tool for the money.
It comes with one medium grade sanding pad so don’t forget to buy an additional sanding pack

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI recently purchased the Bosch Home and Garden Random Orbit Sander to tackle some sanding projects around my home, and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. The sander is easy to use, lightweight, and has a powerful motor that can handle a variety of surfaces. I appreciate the random orbit feature, which helps to eliminate swirl marks and ensures a smooth finish every time.

The dust collection system is also impressive. It efficiently sucks up the majority of dust and debris, leaving behind a clean work area. The sander is also designed with an easy-to-remove dust collector, making it a breeze to clean out and maintain.

Overall, the Bosch Home and Garden Random Orbit Sander is a great tool for any DIY enthusiast or homeowner looking for a reliable and efficient sander. It has exceeded my expectations and made my sanding projects a breeze. Highly recommend!

The first one we purchased stopped working after 20 minutes and would not restart. However we were able to return it and reviewed the next within a day. Difficult to hold with small hands but works very well. Have had no issues with the second one since.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our Users… but this blew me out of the window with out good it is for the price. It’s my first random orbital sander but did a lot of research on what sander to get and wanted to get a Makita but was out of my budget, got this instead and working great for me.

Pros: Cheap, Straight forward, Easy to use.
Cons: Wired (but not much of a problem for smaller shops), only has the one speed.

New to woodworking and looking for a random orbital sander, this is the one for you.

I bought this to replace my previous Bosch sander that had been dropped and used too many times and was no longer able to hold the sanding sheets. This sanders is very effective, however the shape of it does make sanding corners of walls tricky. Don’t get me wrong, it makes a fair bit of dust but it is definitely better than the older Bosch sander I had. It doesn’t seem to get too hot and it fits some non-genuine sander sheets well. I’ve also used it to polish my car with a polishing head and it wasn’t too bad.

Golden Review Award: 32 From Our UsersConsidering how much i paid for this i do feel like i have had money well spent. As its a good brand that you back, Bosch is a household name and for this i opted in getting this sander.

My experience with this sander is based off comparing it to dewalt belt sander and my mcallister palm sander.

    1. My single biggest issue with sanders is vibration, especially when me and Mrs are doing projects. It can take a toll on your wrist, but this sander stops that issue by far. Don’t get me wrong, there is some vibration, but it’s enough to not make your wrist hurt when using it for long periods of time.

It really helped my wrist pain decrease.

    2. design is a food factor for this as its not too clunky yet not to small where you cant grip it properly , its a decent size and when you are holding it it’s not uncomfortable as it has a rubberised grip which helps with your hands.

    3. Using the product is great and nice and powerful. However, the lack of speed control on the sander means you cant make those adjustments the way you would like for small projects. I would recommend using this on larger heaftier projects with larger surface areas rather than smaller little projects.

Tip – you can get the sanding pads with and without holes , i highly recommend getting the ones with the holes as the sander has a vacuum that can suck all the muck up via the holes on the sander

Overall, I think this product is a great piece of kit to add to your arsenal as it could come in handy. I wouldn’t replace all my sanders for this, but i would definitely go and grab this first for a project as it’s a good all rounder which is usually what you want.

With the other sanders I have used I always had marks still left on the wood.
With this sander due to the way it works it moves all over when it oscillates and you can choose the speed which help’s when you are working.
The dust collection works great as that was one thing I was sceptical about.
You might pay more money that some cheap ones but I’m glad I did.

Lovely little sander, I Did have a cheapie and then a mouse black and decker, both went. So along came the Bosch, connect a hoover hose to it and it’s almost dustless, I say almost as you will still get some, I do all my sanding either outside or the garage so no problems there.
It’s light to use and sands well, vibration is minimal, I’m happy to use it solidly for a good hour.

I needed to sand down some wall filler that I used to fill in holes, it worked well and the sanding disc stayed on. I’m not sure if the filter worked well, but there wasn’t toooo much dust. It was quite easy to hold and not too heavy, the cable could do with being quite a bit longer than it though. I bought it on sale and ‘used – like new’. It was 37 which I thought was a good deal.

Got this at a cheaper price and so far so good. This is my first random orbital sander and I’m impressed how easy if is to use aswell as great performance. The particle filter helps but not as much as you’d expect so dust sheets or hoover attachment a must. It grips well to discs and the motor is smooth in action and requires little pressure, tbh I was trying to find fault and found none. Very fast delivery and excellent value. As a diyer this is a must for many an application.

Arrived on time and well packaged. Very easy to use and great for flat surfaces. I have done the skirting, door and window sill in a few hours. It collects the paint and it holds lots before it needs emptying.
It includes 1 sanding sheet so if you decide to buy it, order some extras at the same time.
I am pleased with my purchase.

  32. Anonymous says:

This is a good, very effective random orbit sander. Ergonomic and lightweight, it makes sanding of doors, my initial use, fairly straight forward. You do need patience though especially sanding paint off doors in order to get to the wood. Perhaps it needs to be a tad faster ? Furthermore, the dust extractor actually does an ok job. Note that it doesn’t remove all dust, far from it so I would advise wearing a mask, although that doesn’t help stop dust getting onto glasses as I encountered.

The Velcro sanding disk is actually easy to fit, just make sure to align the holes which is straight forward using the naked eye. Surprisingly and disappointingly only 1 sanding disk was supplied. Whilst i wasn’t expecting lots, I was expecting/hoping to receive at least 2 or 3 albeit each of variable grit.

In the context of the price that I paid – 33.38, I haven’t knocked off a star off my review, although I very easily could have done considering dust capture and even sanding speed.

As always, I will update my review if I find any issues or encounter any problems.

Only 1 sanding disc !! Great sander with patience 👍

  33. purelytwins says:

Great tool for the price feels solid and well put together. Easy to hold and when it’s on, it feels very stable and the power is delivered in a smooth fashion. All adds to the safety and it might not be as powerful as a dewalt but I could happily sand for hours without feeling like my arm was going to fall off from the vibration.

  34. Classic Boat says:

     United Kingdom

Once assembled (dust catchbox) and a suitable grit pad applied, the sander works well. Don’t apply to much pressure. You will be surprised how much material the sander removes, with gentle pressure. Be sure to empty the dust catchbox regularly and after each use. If you don’t, with the humidity the dust tends to clog up in the filter.

My first orbital sander for home use and it’s great. The dust collector is good for small jobs but is tricky to take off. Would have been nice if the collector connector was a standard vacuum size it would be better. You will still have a lot of duct unlike more expensive ones. The grip and ease of use is fantastic

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’m getting a bit old for hand sanding so I bought this BOSCH orbital sander. It seems solidly built. It has a bit of weight to it and feels good in your hand. I really like it. The hook and loop system is so much easier than I had previously used. One negative comment, you get only one (that’s 1) sanding disc. If you are buying this sander don’t forget to get a pack of discs.

  42. EmeliaLowerson says:

Used this sander to prep some surfaces before painting or decorating. Facia boards, 2 garage doors and some internal walls after using poly filler. Seems to handle anything I throw at it with the additional pack of sand paper i purchased separately on Amazon.

    Only downsides are

    1) the chord is a little short for my liking
    2) the power switch isn’t in a very ergonomic position
    3) circular and doesn’t deal with corners well

I’m nitpicking to be honest but I love this sander and always enjoy using it. Would make sanding tables and other large flat surfaces a breeze.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersMost things from amazon come allllllll packed up within an inch of its life. Sometimes over packaged. This can in z plastic bag, no protection, box was bashed to crap when I opened it. So the box is useless to carry or store the sander in for work, had to buy a separate plastic box to store it in.
Sander itself is OK, never had rotary before so wasn’t sure what to expect on how it works. May sound stupid but I thought this thing would spin so fast bit like an angle grinder, sanding super fast, it kinda doesn’t. It does rotate but not fast so any kind of mid range pressure the head just stops turning and it’s the oscillating motion that does the work just like a normal sander.
Still, it did make light work of woodwork on my job and customer happy so can’t complain toooooooo much I suppose.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, more DIY than trade though

I bought this sander as a replacement for a Black & Decker sander which I’d had for years. The step up to the Bosch sander was well worth the investment. The sander is quiet, smooth, and very effective. The vibration felt in the hand is a fraction of that experienced with my old sander.

A pretty good little sander but a big flaw in the design is the non standard dust port. It is an oblong shape. If you own a 3D printer you could fabricate one but most people don’t. Got it on offer and at 30 sale price it was still well worth the money.

Just a little advice to anybody here so you don’t make the same mistake I did. I was sanding as I usually do and the sanding paper had became worn and I then removed it. I got a phone call and after returning to the sander I forget that I had no paper on it and I sanded the Velcro right of the spinner mechanism. Stupid I know. But just don’t forget to add a new paper straight after taking of the old one. This product is actually really good, so good in fact I bought it twice.

Used to resurface wooden worktops. I can’t imagine doing this job by hand after using this (which I did originally contemplate). It’s easy to use, not made any dips in the worktop and fits nicely in your hand. Gets pretty close to the edges and you can angle it a bit to get right in if you’re careful (obviously it can’t reach into corners). The filter is really good. I’ve got a proper filter face mask obviously because there’s still some in the air but it catches loads of very fine dust and there’s only a light amount of dust on things in the room after you’ve used it. Wouldn’t fancy using it on a whole floor (I think my arms would drop off) but for medium sized areas it’s great.
