If you’re looking to get a better handle on all those hotspots in your life, then the Bosch Professional 12V System Thermal Camera GTC 400 is the perfect tool for you! Not only does it provide you with crystal clear images to help spot potential problems with my two 3-D printers for example.. being able to check the bed temperatures and nozzles but it is also compatible with 12 V Bosch, batteries of which I have the drill the grinder and the jigsaw. I’ve had no end of fun with this gizmo. I did get it on a black Friday below 750
It’s tell you minimum and maximum temp as also where you are pointing to.
You don’t have the ability to do software updates, so no new features or bug fixes but you do get calibration certificate and it also it does self calibrate.
In the plus point the battery can be used with other bosch professional products which I had a few off.
There is a newer model with more data point to measure temps.
Easy to use, even for someone like me with no experience. Just turn it on and it works, easy to adjust the hot and cold temps so the colour range displays how you want it too. Nice little compact unit.
It’s awesome saves me so much time on ufh issues, I can’t fault it should have got one years ago.
This is an excellent thermal imaging camera. I am using it to produce a book on The Male and Female Human Body using Thermal Imaging. As you can see from the photos the definition is quite extraordinary. The photo of the Ear for example shows the internal bone structure with full clarity.
I must say for the price the number of uses for this camera are vast.
However, in fairness to Bosch I can state that their Amazon description is detailed, helpful and correct and frankly a handheld unit with an accuracy tolerance of 3C over a range of -10C and +400C should be more than adequate for most purposes — anything requiring a greater degree of accuracy is really getting into the highly technical area and thus costing considerably more.
My son has just moved into an old cottage and this unit has proven to be an excellent device in virtually every area of the cottage in determining the what — where — when & how of both heat loss and heat ‘hot-spots’ and/or ‘cold-spots’ including, in one case, an overloaded electrical cable which may have become very dangerous and even caused a fire eventually.
The use this item was put to at the cottage has inspired me to use it to check my own house and, as I have told other people about it, I already have a few more friends who want their houses checked which I am more than happy to help them do.
Professional installer/repairers will find this unit more than equal to their needs in almost all cases and will identify quickly ‘fault’ areas in electrical installations, windows, heating and even automotive situations.
Instructions and guidance on the Amazon site given by Bosch makes this item easy to use and the information output is also easy to read and understand — I quote – “EASILY TRANSFER DATA: Document measurements and quickly exchange data using the Measuring Master app or use the PC software to edit thermal images and create detailed reports”.
Please read the other reviews and a special thanks to reviewer Teresa for her photographic images and her cat for showing the use of the device for perhaps checking animals too — once you have this Bosch Thermal Camera you will find any number of uses for it.
I was supplied with this product free of charge for giving an honest review which I feel I have done.

It turns out that the draft was coming in from several areas: the windows, the upper ceiling where the attic is, and especially the door (as in I could’ve been pointing at a fan with how much cold was coming in). It’s fairly disgusting so thankfully I was able to document the results on both my phone and computer. I’m not a trained thermographer but considering how well this worked for me, I’m going to use this in my neighbours place to see where the damp is coming from. Because there’s mould climbing up her walls and no matter how much she bleaches it and uses mould-proof paint, it always comes back and the place smells musty.
Personally I love this and it has many uses. I’m 24 years old and as stupid as it sounds, I also use this to take heat photos of my cat and I like using it as an alternative to night vision when I’m playing man-hunt with my friends (basically aggressive tag at night in the forest). So yeah, it’s an incredible device to use to seek out leaks, damp spots, and drafts- but it’s also fun to mess with. It measures temperature accurately and it’s amazing to see where the vulnerable spots in my flat are. I’m pretty certain there’s rats in my attic so I’m going to take this with me to see if I can see any parkouring invaders running about (it’s not a converted attic so it’s basically lumber, insulation, and the boiler up there).
Bosch makes reliable tools and there’s only potentially a +/- 3 error. I normally use simple tools and do novice work around my place and vehicles so by no means am I an expert. But this is easy to figure out and the camera is incredible. I never realised how badly insulated my flat is but it explains why I’m paying so much for electricity. I know the thermal tool is expensive but it comes with two batteries, it’s a high end product designed for professionals, and I know it’ll last me my entire life (like how my dad has owned his tools for 30+ years, including a Bosch drill that’s almost as old as me). Considering the resolution is 160 x 120px I’m impressed with how good it looks, both on the thermal camera and the uploaded picture.
This item is absolutely superb In every way possible! Pay the price and you get a great product 100%. This tool is very much needed in some professional trades and provides very useful, needed and accurate information with ease and simplicity.
You can gain all the information directly from the thermal camera, or hook it up onto your phone using the built in wifi connection to gain better and more in-depth details, charts and saveable images. Overall this item is very good, it’s definitely an item which is needed and is so much better then the cheaper ones on the market in so many ways! You definitely will love it! This amazon own kit is also an excellent price and comes complete with two batteries and is currently cheaper than the one battery model, so grab the offer while you can.
BARGAIN!!!
Great help when it comes to dealing with tubes and heating.
I think it’s great that they made an Amazon version with two batteries and the whole set.
Worth a try for sure.
It is a massive step up from the thermal camera attachments you can get for your phone, and really does most of what you need. It mostly suffers compared to versions that cost ten grand plus, in not giving very accurate measurement. If you need better than 3 degree error rate then you will need to spend more. However this is really all about relative heat – spotting the area that is hotter than its surroundings (or cooler if you at looking for gaps in insulation). With both a camera and infra red sensor you can get detailed images in a variety of viewing modes. The thermal overlay mode which sits over a full colour image is really useful, but it is easy to switch modes to reveal what works for you.
The transfer to laptop via a wifi hotspot works well – and at speed. The app is good and professional reports can be put togther quickly. The battery life is good, but having a spare and options to use AA you are well covered. The design is robust – you would be unlucky to damage this in normal use.
Overall: if you are mostlty working in domestic settings and only make occassional use of themographics – then it would be hard to justify this. If you can justify the outlay – this is good value so long as you don’t need to work within fine temp tolerances. I suspect that once you use it a few times you will wonder haow you managed without it.
