Canny Collar – The Collar For Dog Training And Walking, Simple And Effective Help With Dog Training And Helps To Stop Dogs From Pulling On The Lead, Head Collar For Dog Walking – Black (Size 4)
The Canny Collar is the dog training head collar to stop dogs pulling on the lead, transforming even the worst pullers into happy, well-behaved pets.
Simple to fit and easy to use, it is kind to your dog, comfortable, safe and effective. We offer the Canny Collar in a range of colours and sizes, including Blue, Black, Red and Purple.
The ‘behind-the-head’ design means it doesn’t yank your dog’s head nor ride up into the eyes and can be used in both ‘training mode’ and ‘regular mode’ by slipping the loop off your dog’s nose as needed. This way, you can train your dog to eventually walk on a regular collar and lead.
The Canny Collar is used by dog trainers, training schools, rescue shelters and veterinarians worldwide. The Canny Collar is also used by UK Guide Dogs.
If you are embarrassed by your pulling dog, dread taking him or her for a walk and have tried everything else to stop your dog pulling and nothing has worked, then the Canny Collar is the solution for you.
For larger dogs, the Canny Colossus is the same design as the Canny head collar but with larger, more heavy-duty fittings and specifically for larger breeds of dog.
Canny products are developed by dog behavioural trainers and used by trainers, vets and rescue shelters to help make dog walking more enjoyable.
If you’re tired of your dog taking you for a walk or embarrassed by your pulling dog, the Canny Collar will make walking your dog a pleasure again.
How does the Canny Collar work?
The Canny Collar works by using a ‘pressure and release’ system. Put simply, when your dog pulls he will feel pressure on the bridge of his nose and when he doesn’t pull, there is no pressure.
By keeping your arm by your side and allowing the Canny Collar to do any corrective work, you can then give your dog positive praise when he is walking calmly by your side, thereby encouraging walking on a loose lead. Your dog will soon learn that by walking calmly by your side and not pulling ahead, the walk will be more comfortable for both of you.
Why is the Canny Collar different from other head collars?
Firstly, the Canny Collar fastens behind the head rather than under the chin. The immediate benefit of this is that there is no yanking your dog’s head to one side or riding up into his eyes. When you are positioned below an animal (such as a horse) it would make sense to lead it from under the chin. However, the horse rider will control the horse from behind the head which makes more sense if you are above the animal. This is why the Canny Collar is unique amongst dog training head collars.
Secondly, the Canny Collar is a dog training collar rather than a dog restraining collar. It can be quickly and easily switched into a regular dog collar and lead by alternately flicking the slip line on and off your dog’s nose. By doing this you can use the Canny Collar like a ‘dog training lead’ eventually training your dog to walk on a conventional flat collar.
What are the benefits of the Canny Collar?
As the Canny Collar clips to your dog’s lead behind the head rather than under the chin, this means it will not ride up into your dog’s eyes nor yank his head to one side. It is generously padded for comfort and the single piece of material over your dog’s nose allows him to breathe freely, open his mouth and enjoy his walk as much as you both want him to. Used by organisations such as The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, the Canny Collar is everything you are looking for when wishing to humanely train your dog to walk on a loose lead.
If you’re looking for an easy solution to your pulling dog problems, look no further than the Canny Collar. You’ll be in good company. Since it was launched, more than half a million dog owners worldwide have discovered the simple pleasure of walking their dogs on a loose lead. Join them today and make walking your dog easy!

Frequently Asked Questions

|---|---|---|---|
What size of Canny Collar will fit my dog?To ensure your Canny Collar fits accurately and is safe to use when walking your dog, take a tape and measure around your dog’s neck snugly, to just behind the ears. Then, choose the correct size Canny Collar for your dog using our sizing guide. If your dog’s neck measurement falls exactly between two sizes, our experience shows that the best option is normally to choose the smaller of the two sizes to ensure a good fit.
| Why is the Canny Collar different to other head collars?Firstly, the Canny Collar fastens behind the head rather than under the chin. This is why the Canny Collar is unique amongst dog training collars. | Canny Collar vs Halti, Dogmatic & Gentle LeaderThe main difference between the Canny Collar and other head collars such as the Halti, Dogmatic and Gentle Leader is the position to where the lead is fastened – the Canny Collar fastens behind the head rather than underneath the chin. By fastening behind the head, the potential for unintentional misuse is minimised as the Canny Collar will not pull your dog’s head to one side. Any dog control device is really only as good as the owner on the other end of the lead. Whilst most owners are responsible and caring individuals with their animal’s best interests at heart, some can, through frustration, become heavy handed, resulting in the dog’s head being yanked to one side and the nosepiece riding up into the eyes. The Canny Collar does not bring the dog’s head to one side, rather it lowers the head towards the floor. This means the full weight of the dog is harnessed in slowing the dog down, rather than putting pressure on the neck area with the head twisted to one side. | Should I use a Canny Collar with my puppy? We believe that the appropriate approach is to teach a puppy the correct place to walk right from the beginning so as to prevent problems developing as the puppy grows to adulthood. The Canny Collar is widely regarded as a corrective device for dogs with an existing pulling problem but it is also a kind and effective tool for beginning your puppy’s training programme. It is comfortable enough to be worn from day one and beginning his training this way means you can teach him exactly where you would like him to be on his very first walks. Within a short time you should be able to release the nose-strap periodically to check on his progress, replacing the nose-strap when further guidance is required. Puppies who start using a Canny Collar on their first outings learn very quickly to walk without pulling, so that assuming the ‘correct’ walking position becomes second nature to them. |
Are you embarrassed by your pulling dog? Do you feel stressed when out walking?
When you use a Canny Collar, you’re in good company. Since it was launched, over half a million collars have been sold to dog owners just like you. People who once struggled to control their dogs now enjoy walking them comfortably by their side on a loose lead.
Do people make you feel bad by telling you how you should be training your dog?
Because your dog only has one piece of material over his nose and not several straps, he will accept this more quickly than other devices that are more restraining. He can open his mouth, breathe, pant and drink water wearing the Canny Collar as it does not keep the mouth closed when in use.
Have you tried lots of other products to stop your dog from pulling on lead and nothing has worked?
The Canny Collar is simply a standard collar, generously padded for comfort, with a single line of material (the slip line) going over your dog’s nose. This means he is free to breathe freely, open his mouth and enjoy his walk as much as you want him to. There is less material to restrict his mouth which also allows him to get used to the Canny Collar very quickly.
Is your dog so strong that he or she is simply impossible to control?
The Canny Collar can train your dog to walk on a simple collar and lead with no pulling. By moving the slip line on and off your dog’s nose as required, you can gradually teach him not to pull at all, even when he feels nothing on his nose.
Make walking your dog a pleasure again with the Canny Collar. No pulling, no stress, just enjoy walking your dog!
Canny, the clever dog collar
The word ‘Canny’ originated in Scotland some time around the middle of the seventeenth century and it is still widely used today, mainly in Scotland and the NE of England. From the original ‘can’, meaning know (commonly said in Scotland as ‘ken’ today as in ‘do you ken?’ or ‘do you know?’), the English suffix ‘–y’ was added to form the word we know today.

Wow. I was recommend this collar from a friend. My lab is great off the lead in open spaces but as soon as the lead goes on she pulls and it’s a nightmare for street walking. I have tried everything and used all my patience up that I had given up and we just hop in the car to the beach. This is a brilliant bit of kit. She did try and pull it off at first and succeeded a couple of times and at times it slipped off because she was walking so well. A treat through the band to slip it over her nose and she’s not bothered about it at all now. Her tail was wagging away as well. Absolute great first walk. LOVE IT. Best thing I’ve bought in a while
Doggie is so much Happie
I’ve always had this collar for my retired guide dog. my new guide dog came with a different collar that kept going over her eyes so I swapped it for this one and she is so. so much happier. It fits brilliantly and hasn’t gone in her eyes once. I always recommend these.
aining colla
Best easy to use training collar around. It allows the dog to open its mouth without any restriction and gives the owner full control with no effort. when the dog is walking correctly at heel just flip off the nose band allowing them to walk with just a flat collar, they quickly realise what you expect from them.

I have tried everything to get my dog to stop pulling on walks but nothing worked. First time out with this collar and no pulling. Brilliant.
Game change
This has played a key role in my reactive romanian rescue dogs training! Great product!
Brilliant, taken the stress out of walking, no pulling now!
Easy to fit.
Easy to use.
Effective results.
Dog walks nicely, very comfortable on her.
Walk changer!
This is amazing!
Our 6month old pointer has hyperactivity and lead walking was becoming a huge problem. We tried many different training methods but the canny collar has been an instant success. He still tries to get it off on occasion but he overall appears happy.
We can now enjoy our walks togethe
Good fi
A good fit for my spaniel and easy to use. She soon got the hang of it. More comfortable then the halti.
Check size guide
Check size guide a size 3 won’t do a lurcher Cross. But very good produc
Stops pulling
Bought to replace the old one he keeps trying to get it off but you just have to persevere & it does stop the pulling
Best colla
My dog is a 4 year old Bearded Collie who constantly pulls on the lead. I have tried several different styles to stop this and never had any success. This is brilliant, works so well and easy to use. highly recommend.
Does what it is supposed to.
I can now take my dog for a walk without it feeling like he’s taking me for a walk, great product.
Bit fiddley to put o
Good collar and certainly worth the effort of putting it on the only negative is the ends that to attach to the lead when not in use clip together under the chin and if not fixed properly look like they could catch in the undergrowth which my dog spends a lot of time .
Brilliant for big dogs
I have a dubble xl bully cross very big and strong got to the point I couldn’t control her this as helping so much
Incredible for larger breeds
4 month old Ridgeback is now too strong to walk without it being unpleasant. This is an incredible collar that completely stopped my puppy from pulling, fantastic piece of kit!!!!
No pull, lovely walks thanks to canny colla
Definitely would recommend this collar if your dog pulls. I have a Doberman 45kg and he is a different dog now when walking, he’s at my side rather than in front pulling me and reduced pulling by a good 90%. He’s comfortable wearing it and doesn’t try and pull it off like others I have tried. Thank you brilliant buy, excellent value for money too, and happier owner and dog
Dog doesn’t pull as much.
Was value for money. Although a bit fidgety with buckle to get on , does help with pulling too much although not completely
Helped control my boisterous dog
Product was a little stiff at first but once broken in my polish lowland sheep dog was well controlled highly recommended produc
Canny Colla
Great collar and good quality. My only criticism is that if the dog pulls it does ride up under his eyes and bless him he tries to paw it off his face but we do constantly check it is sitting correctly and loosening off.
Changes walks for the bette
We really like this product for both our dogs who have always pulled no matter what training we have tried. The head collar fits perfectly and is kind and gentle to use on the dog.
Fiddly to get on a very active sprinter but works a trea
Makes such a difference I can walk him now without injuring my shoulder , he’s a very busy sprinter so a little fiddly to get it on , but once fitted it really helps
Absolutely brillia
I like the canny collar because it’s easy to use my dog responds well also using the canny collar doesn’t rip the dogs fur out as normal half and full checks.
Great for on lead walks
Great for on the lead walking
Size guide a bit small
Brilliant if you keep the dog on the lead but a bit fiddly if you like to let them off and on again
But overall I can now walk him without being dragged down the road
Game Changer!
This collar is a real game changer for me. My 3 year old Labrador pulls like a train and has made lead walks very challenging. I went for Size 5 and it’s a good fit and looks sturdy. It takes the pull out of him immediately and unlike standard figure of 8 leads, it doesn’t tighten around the neck. I use it with a two handled lead and I feel so much more in control!! Amazing!
Has made walks enjoyable agai
We were despairing with our cocker spaniel, we tried all the tricks to get her to walk nice and she wouldn’t. The pulling was awful and I was worried she would hurt herself. She did not like the collar at first , but she soon got used to it and omg it was magic, amazing device. I can’t say how much I love this collar.
A help, but can be annoying .
Does help with reactivity.Nose band tends to get twisted. I found it easier to put the collar on each time making sure the nose band does not twist. He still tries to get it off.
What an amazing difference
Have a rescue dog who is a solid 20kg of muscle. Was doing no favours to my arms, back or knees. Tried a Halti but she would scrape herself along walls to try and get it off. This has been revolutionary. She is not a big fan but much better than with the Halti. I could walk her with one finger on the lead now which is something I never thought I would see and also can now countenance a child walking her (with supervision) at some point.
Neat little colla
Much prefer this to any other pulling collars that we have tried, fits flat to my dogs face
I’m disabled and use an electric wheelchair i have a Belgium Sheppard and she wears a harness as trained to walk with the chair but on occasions will have a pull if a squirrel goes past and can pull hard I have added this to the walk and it’s amazing I have used them in the past with great success with my jack Russell and it worked on him brilliantly. It’s not hard to fit on the dog and is secure in place if she wants to pull it over her nose she can but that’s when we have stopped talking on our walks but once rolling again I have total control of her head and it’s easy to just slip it back over her nose my dog is trained to walk with the wheelchair she still has her harness on so when she is on her extension lead I just clip the canny collar around her neck and she is free to have a mooch around then it’s back on her walking lead next to the wheelchair with her canny collar on its given me a lot more confidence and control and it’s a gentle way of working your dog very happy and totally recommend it. I have tried the Julius K9 harness the stop pull halti harness but none have work for that extra control and the halti head collar can cause neck injury as it pulls your dog’s head to the side all the time but this head collar just pulls her nose down to her chest to deter her from pulling keeping her head and neck in line so no chance of injury to you dog a vet recommend them to me years ago my jack Russell is 18 years old and it helped him as a pup to stop pulling as he is a typical jack Russ a bit stubborn to train but it worked he walks great now and so does my Belgium Sheppard especially when squirrels are around it.
Amazing produc
Wow.. Best collar on the market I can now finally enjoy walking both my dogs both gsds puppies that pulled like steam trains .until I purchased this collar . Beats any halti harness hands down in my book thankyou
Canny colla
Bought this for my daughters dog as she was pulling.
She says it took a few walks for the dog to get used to it , but happier now..
She said why did I not buy it for her sooner.
Fantastic
The canny collar has literally changed my life! Sounds over the top but I came to a point where walking the dog was pretty stressful, my 8 month old lab would pull to the point of almost dislocating my shoulder, this collar has reduced his pulling ability massively and I couldn’t recommend it enough. Took him a few days to get used to it, (expect your dog to have a go at getting it off, its just a case of your dog getting used to it.) Now we both enjoy going for a walk, the difference is fantastic, now I can train him to walk to heel much easier. Highly recommend! (I bought size 4).
Game changer with confidence they can't be wriggled out of.
Love it. No where near as harsh as other makes that I can’t name, but it does the job perfectly, as good as the others but better, because you have peace of mind that pups can’t wriggle out of them.
Works well
Works well and doesn’t cut across her eyes like others. Bit annoying when want to run off lead as a faff to tie up
stops pulling on the lead
ideal much more comfortable than a slip lead although quite fiddly to put on with out twisting it when out walking
Brilliant Canny Collar does the job!
I bought this collar for my labradoodle 8 mth old puppy. He’s enormous- not quite the size of a standard poodle but not far off and my morning walks with him were hazardous to say the least.! Now, with this collar, my arms are back in their sockets and I can walk painlessly with him by my side, without the frantic pulling I used to get with a double lead!! Now the walks brilliant aand I can hold the lead with 1 finger. Even when we meet other dogs ( always used to be a stressful time!) But not now.
I’m really pleased with this canny collar.
You are in control
Collar does not stretch which is good. very easy to use, dog is much better behaved and can even walk on the collar after a run in the park and he is tired. Marked improvement to halte which he still managed to pull with.
Just wow!
I’ve been struggling to find the right collar etc for our strong 18mth old puppy and was thankfully introduced to the canny collar by a friend. Whilst out pup resisted initially, it wasn’t long before she was walking better and pulling less.
It’s so nice to finally feel in control and gain some confidence and be able to train her (and me of course). I used to dread walking her and now look forward to it.
It’s a bit fiddly to let her off lead and pop her back on…but still worth it….and she wears a regular collar so I can grab her quick and hold her if I need to.
It seems to be made well. She tried to bite through it once, so I’ve learnt to get myself ready, then put the collar and leave straight away so she can’t get to it.
Thumbs up from me.
Works really well
I was looking for a way to stop my dog pulling and this was recommended by a friend. I was dubious but it actually does work and my dog doesn’t attempt to take it off either. Very pleased.
When I originally received this item I was happy with how it worked, not the simplest of head harnesses to fit but once used to it it’s fine. Worked by preventing excitable golden retriever pulling but she was never happy to wear it, the yellow buckle underneath seemed to dig in her neck/throat. Persevered as she is head strong and stubborn but she was still gasping and chocking even after reading the correct way to use as there is a knack to it. I ordered due to the fact you could leave on whilst off lead by crossing the straps and securing with 2 clips supplied. The clips were a little flimsy and very fiddly to secure with an excited dog about to be let off lead so wasn’t really suitable for her, other dogs may accept it more and it does work with pulling so worth a try just not suitable for her even with perseverance.
It works from day one
This beats the Hilti I tried first, and the dog don’t run a mile and hide up when I pick it up, like some other harness I’ve tried… this Canny collar works well.
It works
Does exactly what it is intended for – stop a dog pulling. When your dog drops it’s head you know it is going to try and scratch it off so get the head up. After 1 use a massive difference.
Stopped Springer Spaniel lunging at people with excitement and pulling on the lead when in heel.
The Canny collar worked on our Springer Spaniel like magic, we were confident it would work but were blown away by how well the Canny collar did it’s job.
We already learnt how to put the collar on, so when the collar arrived it only took seconds to put it on our dog, so simple to use if you already know how to use it, thanks to YouTube.
We walked our Springer Spaniel indoors with the collar on, during that time she did put her paw up at the strap several times, we carried on walking giving her treats for about five minutes, followed by going out to the garden for another five minutes with a few more treats.
Later on we took her out for a street walk and again she did put her paw up at the strap but only a few times, apart from that she walked extremely well. Next day in the morning we went back out for a dog walk, but this time passing people, there was no lunging at all, she walked perfectly past people and there was no pulling during heel.
But please note: Most Springers love and require off lead exercise, belting around fields, they love it…
