Had to watch a YouTube tutorial to get us started but a family weekend together turned into a Catan bonanza! Will be getting the expansion pack to add more players.
Our family loves Catan. The junior version is quick to learn and the kid’s love it. Similar to the main Catan game, the junior only takes about 30 minutes to play. This version can be played with 2-4 people.
My 7 year old asked to get this game and as a family we have played it most days since, even my 5 year old is getting to grips with it. You need a flexible approach and multi strategies to succeed as it all boils down to the roll of a dice. But it’s a game where the same person isn’t always the winner (which keeps us interested!). even though you need multi strategies its quite a simple and straightforward game once you have got to know it.
We really enjoy this game and are looking forward to getting an expansion pack to add another dynamic. Highly recommended.
This game is loads of fun to play with others. Plenty of variety and nuance to the gameplay, no 2 rounds are the same. Decent way to pass some time with friends.
A fantastic game. Worth looking up how to play first so that when you open the box it’s a little easier. The game arrived in great condition. All contents brand new, very good
Have enjoyed the game with family but the number of rules has been overwhelming for my mid fifties wife. Also the blue colours on the back of the resource and commodity cards do not match and my son was using this to win a whole bunch of games. Had to explain to him (and wife) the principals of lying by omission!
Rules of the game are easy enough for a six year old to understand, but the gameplay has a level of complexity that makes this game very fun and enjoyable for kids and adults. Overall the game result comes down to pure luck, as in every game of this age range. Nevertheless, you can still trade and make strategic decisions. You can trade with marketplace or bank, you can choose how to spend collected resources. The quality of the product is good and it has many plastic figures, which I call a “toy” element in the board game, that my son enjoys so much.
Neat board so can be set up easily. Rules need to be read beforehand but easily followed while teaching players. Fun to play and game can be completed in a reasonable timescale.
Good value on offer as usually 45 but worth it either way. We played for the first time with friends and it instantly became my favourite game.
A game of strategy but you also don’t have to think too hard, best played with 4 people but there is 2 player rules you can find online as the board is set up slightly differently.
Every game is different which means it stays exciting and does not get boring like other games. We have now bought card covers to keep them fresh as it will definitely stay with us for years (and can’t find spares online sadly – missing a niche in the market there as roads etc can easily be lost)
When I first opened it I was really put off by the amount of instructions- don’t beonce you start playing it is easy to understand and great fun for kids and parents!
i bought it for my 7 year old – while we played it a couple of times in teams to get the hang of it, after about 3 goes she was good to play on her own.
Would recommend as a really fun family game!
A great board game – it’s been brilliant to play with my 6 year old who has thoroughly enjoyed it.
Be careful when setting it up though – the instructions aren’t hugely clear. The pirate ships go on the dotted lines rather than the circles which wasn’t made obvious on the very brief instructions.
We love playing this as a family. Kids are 11&13 but have played with children aged 9+.
Simple rules, the set up is a bit annoying so I wouldn’t really call it a travel game but it definitely keeps us all entertained for 30-60mins and isn’t too competitive that arguments break out so that’s always a plus!
I bought this game as a Christmas present for close friends who regularly enjoy games evenings.
I chose it as I had researched online and it appeared on a lot of online top board games charts. I also watched a program on TV this year, where professional footballers were passing their time playing it.
My friends made a point of phoning me just to express their thanks, as it turns out, it was a big hit with the whole family who are now addicted to i
I love this game. This is only an add on to the actual game so that you can play with 5-6 players instead of just up to 4 players. In the game you have to find out a way to build the longest road and develop your town/ cities. There are many ways to do this and so the game is never played in the same setup again. It’s a game where once you understand the rules (Which are explained well in the booklet that comes with it) you can play for hours with friends and have fun and add on other expansion sets. Highly recommended.
If you want to travel with the game you can also do this, but may need a more practical way to pack it, instead of keeping it in the box.
If you have not got this game, then get it, most addictive and fun game I have played in ages, its taken over games night at our house
This game surprised me, it was easy to learn and the playability works great for a dice game.
There’s some abusive tactics (I won’t share here) but definitely fun.
Perfect for when you want to play Catan, but don’t have the space or time to do a proper game.
Good family/Friends game. It dis take quite a long time to set up and you need quite a bit of space.
I got this for a couple of boys aged 11 & 13 as my daughter and son in-law (in their 30’s) play it lots with their friend. They all really enjoy it and it can be played to quite simple rules or can get more complicated as you learn to play it well.
An excellent game, admirably simple to learn, but full of subtleties involving tactics and strategy. It’s best to start with the basic equipment to give a feel for the game and for the challenges it offers. Once confident at this level, it’s good to bring in the farms, Abbot and the rivers, which give the whole scenario a new dimension with a fresh set of stimuli. For the enthusiast further extended ingredients are available. Thoroughly recommended.
Simply adds the required hexes / pieces to play 5-6 player catan. The number tokens included are not an addition to the main game bear in mind, you use all the numbers (28 total) from the 5-6 player expansion for the full game.
Really good game, takes a bit of time to set up.
