This has been a great purchase for me. The company still responds to technical questions I have had within a day and software updates are still showing up with fixes for issues that I had noticed.

Tough to do a review but after 18 months have to state its the best out there but has issues. The box does as promised but had problems. First box was returned but barely out of warranty so 15 dollar shipping fee. The recording button wasn’t working after 13 months. They made slight changes resulting in replacement being a different UI and format of recording. So older YouTube videos have the old interface and the old remote is useless with new Box. Comes with a new remote. Tough to figure out timer. The instructions on newer box from last fall are the same are original box in fall 2020. But remote is a bit different now. Now sometimes recordings won’t save. Depending on what you use it for the results vary. I am recording tv off a Firestick and sometimes casting videos with Chromecast. Own no gaming console. No VHS stuff. I wish I could say customer service is good but being its all emails it is not. No number or chat feature, if I recall right. They do respond timely but it feels like you are constantly waiting for replies because you don’t have the issue resolved. Yes it’s worked. But now I press stop to save recordings and half the time it freezes or if you put on another app it freezes and recordings lost. It’s tough to explain and lots to unpack but it is the best out there.

Brilliant price of kit! Using it mostly to convert vhs to digital.. I did purchase an additional scart to hdmi lead as I couldn’t get the composite cables to get a signal to come from the video player, but the might have been the scart to composite cable that wasn’t any good.
My son thinks it’s great for recording Xbox and forza horizon 5 so a win win for us!

Unfortunally it records PAL only in 60 FPS. If you use PC for recording videos, it won’t record correctly in 25/50 FPS. There is a video and audio sync problem. But anyway, I like it.
Max recording resolution is 1920×1080. I use this Cloner Box to digitalize VHS video tapes. One hour recording = 8 Gb file size.

A great little box that records just about any source you care to throw at it, On the negative side it can occasionally be a bit glitchy and need a reset but that’s no big deal. It’s also a bit pricey but in my opinion it’s worth the money.

I used this device to digitize old VCR tapes before they completely deteriorated. The output quality wasn’t great, but the input quality was poor to start with – again, old VCR tapes. I was happy that the resultant mp4 file had a dimension of 1920 x 1080 with Codecs: ACC, H.264. I liked that I was able to choose between 4:3 or 16:9 for the output configuration and that I was able to hook the output up to a TV so that I could monitor what I was digitizing in real time. Overall I’m very happy with this little gadget – it suited my purpose quite well.

Setup was a little confusing as I got an error message. This was highlighted in the (sparse) documentation and the suggestion fixed the error.

The remote needs to be carefully aimed for best results. Quite a clunky interface for such a simple device, but some good options and it gets the job done.

I bought it to archive some Sky Q recordings and it recorded them to a suitably formatted external USB hard drive. Quality is quite reasonable, just a little darker and lacking fine detail compared to the source.

It arrived quickly and was on special offer so a good buy. Would recommend.

This unit does precisely what the manufacturer claims it can. You can convert all your analog tape recorded videos to digital files easily and quickly. Just follow the instructions provided with the device and then all your tapes can be discarded and your video recordings will be in digital format stored on USB sticks or hard drives.

I took to this gadget straight away, it was up and running quickly. I am using Fat32 USB stick as NTFS didn’t record anything when I tried it. It breaks the files up at 2gig (approx 27mins) if using HD1080 setting. I haven’t tried HD 720. I use VideoReDo to stitch the files together on the PC. I haven’t downloaded the software from the ClonerAlliance web site so far as I haven’t needed too. So far so good.

Keep your eyes open for a bargain like I did, 50 off on what I assume was a customer return.

Update – I was having some trouble which turned out to be HDMI cable related, I got a quick reply from Cloner Alliance so I can confirm the customer support is excellent.

Software is more “cheap Chinese” than a 150 unit. Does record well am having 3 “picture quality” settings is very useful.
With regard to CP it does record off my Humax PVR but does not off my Amazon Cube. I needed to feed through an HDMI splitter with CP removal to record off the Cube.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’ve been procrastinating to purchase this product due to some negative feedback. However, now that I’ve used it for several days I should have purchased this sooner.
This produce does record as expected. The only minor issue I encountered was when I first connected it for the first time. I got the “Och, something wrong!” messag, but was quickly resolved by pressing on the “source” button on the unit for 10 seconds.
I’m currently using SanDisk 128GB Cruzer USB 2.0 Flash Drive and it is working. I first recorded with FAT32 to verify that the cloner and USB were correctly recording, then reformatted to NTFS so I can record it to a single file. I was able to record 2.5 hours of 1080 without any issue.
Now I’m looking for a larger capacity. So far I tried my WD 1TB My Passport SSD (NTFS) without success. I’d like to at least have 512 GB capacity.
I gave 4 stars because the UI is very clunky. Some features like deleting just do not make sense. I’ve decided to clean up by doing it on my PC since I can also rename the files for better identification.
Another annoyance is the enabling the recording indicator. I expected it to be like a display-only indicator that shows up on your display like when you start/stop recording (to make is easier to see if it’s recording or not). However, the flashing red “ball” is actually recorded so when you pla back it displays on the screen (very annoying since it flashes). I don’t know anyone who would want that on your recorded file since anything you play is “recorded” to begin with…so I now have to rely on looking at the top of the cloner device (flashing blue) to verify if it’s recording or not.
Overall, I am pleased with the product as the most important feature of recording seems to work as expected.
Now, I’ll see how long this device will last. I do wish I can have this turned on all the time so I don’t have to split the HDMI input (because even when plugged in it doesn’t passthrough when turned off) and I’m not sure if this device was designed/built to be left turned on 24×7.

    Update:
So the reason My Passport SSD didn’t work was because it’s GPT and ClonerPro only supports MBR, but I decided not to convert it to MBR. I’ve come to realize that using128GB Flashdrive is more than adequate for me because I now use the device for recording only. Since it takes a couple of seconds for the ClonerPro to actually start recording after you press the record button, I just start recording in advance. I then edit the video (trim/combine) on my laptop using the free app from them. So 128 GB is more than adequate for this purpose. I did upgrade to USB 3.0 SanDisk Ultra because it’s much faster to copy the videos to my laptop. I then move the videos to my WD MyPassport to play on my set of laptops. WIth this, keeping my SSD external drive as GPT was the better choice.

I upgraded my review from 4 to 5 because of their customer support and they outweighed the product shortcomings I described earlier. As others have mentioned, they are quite amazing. They respond almost immediately and clearly shows that they want to provide the best support they can offer. It is quite refreshing when these days contacting a customer service are waste of our effort.

I am amazed at everything about the product and the amazing level of customer support. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! You won’t regret this purchase. I have spent several days trying out a few different ways to get the best out of this clever little ClonerAlliance HDMI Pro recording device to suit my specific needs and now I feel that I am in the position to write an honest and detailed review of it to the best of my ability – something I think is really important as this device may be able to help many people looking to record video from sources they can find no other way of doing currently.

The first thing to say is that the ClonerAlliance HDMI Pro product is a fantastic bit of kit that has made something possible that I feared I would be unable to achieve – namely recording a video stream from NowTV.

But it actually works better than I hoped it might and I have been really enjoying using it.

This review will be mostly created by the notes I have been making about the various ways I have tried and prefer recording with it, and I know that anyone wanting to record streams will benefit from reading this and trying out such a great gadget as this.

Firstly, I want to mention something that did put me off when I first used it – that annoying “Och, something wrong!” message that appears when you first try connecting the device to your tv and video source.

It turns out that it really is a simpler fix than even the instructions lead you to believe – you just press and hold the “Source” button on the front for 10 seconds to really sync everything together and then they just work together again forever without any further effort from you.

Until I knew that I kept on having to disconnect and reconnect everything to the ClonerAlliance HDMI Pro every time they were powered down. Now, no such problems and everything just reconnects and works each time I switch all the devices back on.

I will now explain my exact use of the device which may give you a better idea of whether it will be of use to you.

I have been trying to get high quality versions of the episodes of 2Point4 Children as streamed via NowTV because I know that they will never be released by the BBC on DVD due to a licensing issue with Lady Penelope’s pink car from Thunderbirds (if you can believe such a thing.)

In my tests I found the best way to record them was to first fast forward the episodes to the end of each clip, cancel that annoying “watch next episode now” message that would otherwise appear at the end, rewind to the beginning once again, then cancel the play positioning bar by using the rewind 10 second button and press record on the ClonerAlliance HDMI Pro at the same time to enable me to get a perfect recording from start to finish without any more annoying pop up or display bars on it.

The ClonerAlliance HDMI Pro enabled me to do exactly that and get the episodes I wanted recorded perfectly (I now need only hope that more episodes get shown on UK Gold to allow me to get the entire series recorded!)

However, with the ClonerAlliance HDMI Pro it goes without saying that you only get out of it what you put into it.

By that I mean that you should have the following:

    1. A good stable internet connection and being prepared to record late night/early morning (if using the ClonerAlliance HDMI Pro to record from a streaming service such as NowTV to prevent buffering/jumpy playback/audio issues.)
    2. A high quality stream or video input such as 1080p as the ClonerAlliance HDMI Pro will not provide HDMI upscaling.
    3. A decent quality flash drive/external hard drive (unless using the ClonerAlliance HDMI Pro to record straight to pc.)

I tend to record with it earlier on the morning when my internet connection is at its best to ensure the optimum achievable rate of transfer, plus I have NowTV boost to receive all content in 1080p.

That being the case my ClonerAlliance HDMI Pro is able to record in perfect clarity with the files looking great in playback once transferred to my pc (I usually don’t check the playback on the device itself, although it does have that ability.)

When it comes to playback of recorded files, I have adopted the method of recording straight to a flash drive and then simply copying files across to the pc after I have finished, and so I cannot comment on connecting to PC via HDMI (even though I bought a long enough high-quality HDMI cable to do so) or really even using the software to edit/combine files – apart from one minor thing I will mention in a moment.

The software that you have access to with a purchase of the ClonerAlliance HDMI Pro does seem quite good, but I only tried editing a file recorded with it once as I changed my recording method after that.

(I just know that something will likely always go wrong if using software on a pc due to the constant updates computers get – so even if the software provided with ClonerAlliance HDMI Pro works now, it won’t be long before Microsoft comes along and breaks something, hence my reason for not really trying it too much.)

When I was first recording with the ClonerAlliance HDMI Pro, I had my flash drive formatted in fat32 rather than NTFS which I now prefer – fat32 is apparently more stable for recording with it, but NTFS records files record in one piece rather than splitting anything over 2GB into multiple files.

I decided I would prefer single files due to a slight “audio drop” issue at the point of split I noticed when using the provided MP4-Cloner software to merge split files back into one file.

However, there is another important choice to be made regarding the formatting standard if using an external drive to record to, because the same quality and length of 30 minute episode recorded on a fat32 formatted drive which comes to around 2GB would be around 3.2GB on a NTFS formatted drive.

This is all due to the size of the default allocation unit size used in the drive formatting, which is something you will have to search for yourself to get the best results for you – however it is of little concern to me really because I plan on storing my precious recorded files on my large 4TB external hard drive connected to my TV for later playback and for burning straight to Blu-ray discs for long term backup, but for those with limited space requirements you may wish to take care with your choice here.

Apart from the slight audio drop out issue I mention above during the only time I tried file merging and possibly the slight moment of panic caused by that initial “Och, something wrong!” message that was solved after a quick online search, I cannot find anything I do not like about the ClonerAlliance HDMI Pro. It performs better than I had hoped it might when ordering and right now I think it may well be greatest electronic gadget I have ever bought.

(And yes, for those that are inevitably going to ask if the ClonerAlliance HDMI Pro can be used to record from copyright protected DVD’s and Blu-ray, I can say during my test it did so perfectly and made an excellent recording, as you might expect, because it simply records whatever video source it receives to a file. Just please only use it for whatever you might legally have the right to do so, okay?)

In the added pictures you can see my current setup with all my various devices for watching content, my NowTV device for streaming and the ClonerAlliance HDMI Pro itself (with the flash drive removed as it was connected to my pc at the time.) It is now just starting to look a little dusty, I really must do some cleaning – the other little marks on the rest of the devices are just emulsion paint from my roller when decorating I promise!

I can happily rate the ClonerAlliance HDMI Pro 5 stars and recommend it to anyone wanting to find a way to record HD streams that other devices will not accept.

The best electronic gadget for recording video streams available

This product is great for me to archive movies and TV shows I purchased from iTunes. I’ve also been able to record movies and TV shows from other subscriptions like Amazon Prime, Netflix and my local cable provider Rogers. It’s nice to have them on a harddrive so I can watch them when I go camping in the middle of nowhere with no data access. I did read some review about the audio level being very low but I never encountered this. I have the Cloner box on max volume and lowerer the volume on my TV and get levels of audio on my recordings. The only thing that’s a small negative is the file size. A 20 minute show from iTunes at 1080p is about 1.6GB. But digital storage is cheap so, I guess I’ll wait until black Friday and buy some additional storage.

    **20 MONTH REVIEW**

Does what is claims in 720 & 1080.
Color adjustment is available but the software is clunky, hard to do much of anything but record and stop.
Once setup, one button start one for stop. It will record what is on the screen
When your inserted memory card has what you want or is full unplug and transfer the movies or pictures.
My remote was DOA, one email to support, the returned the next day and sent out a new remote. 5 stars for support!

This does what it claims and has not missed a step in 18 months and 4,000+ recordings!!!

I purchased this primarily to digitize 25 years of camcorder tapes (VHS, Hi 8 & Digital 8) and it has worked very well. You need to use the recommended flash drive (SanDisk Cruzer up to 16GB) or you may have issues. I watched several videos online on how to use the device before I started the project, but it performance has been nearly flawless. I had no audio/video sync issues. I dragged the large files from the flash drive over to my PC for editing and the results have been terrific.

Really nice device. Excellent results. Easy to use. I bought expensive apps for my MAC. The Cloner works much better. Unfortunately there is no MAC version of the software. I had to buy an extra updated PC. Typically when you go MAC you don’t go back. This was the only exception. Costumers support is excellent. HDMI to HDMIDVR recordings are excellent. Super Beta hi Band recordings are a little bit soft or lacking sharpness. I plan to buy a high end capture device to see if I can improve on the resolution from my super Beta high band recordings. This works excellent on my cable DVR HDMI connection. I highly recommend the Cloner box pro because of it’s reasonable price and ease-of-use and most importantly the quality that it produces that you should buy this device.

After I finally “cut the cord” I bought an Amazon Fire TV Stick to update my non-smart TV, I soon realized I would need something that could record the shows I couldn’t watch in real time and this is just the ticket.
Easy set-up using the clear instructions in the box and downloaded from the Cloner Alliance site.
Records MP4s to inexpensive flash drives which can be played back on the Cloner Alliance Pro or taken on the road where they can be watched on laptop, TV, etc. Clear video and excellent sound playback at a good price.
Julia on the support team is friendly and willing to answer questions. Highly recommended.

I bought a cheaper device from Jaycar initially which I returned immediately due to poor quality video output, dropped frames, interlacing artefacts etc etc. Click on my name to read that review.

So I bit the bullet and bought the ClonerAlliance box. Very happy with the video quality. The main difficulty in converting VHS is the frame rate and interlaced video. Cloner box is converting the video to 720p 60 frames which makes the video suitable for uploading to YouTube. It does an amazing job of this on videos which were recorded more than 35 years ago.

Yes it’s expensive but I really can’t think of any other device that can capture antique video this well.

I am a MacBook user and was interested in permanently archiving my Apple purchased movies, as well a loads of DVD and old VHS home movies etc collected in one place.

What I liked was that it came on as soon as I plugged the power to this unit on, without me having to tweak anything or talk to support or to press the source button or anything.

    Pro:
    1) It works right out of the box
    2) I do not need to turn the unit off before removing the flash drive. After recording, I can take it out even with the system running. The recordings are saved into a folder named “video” created by this unit, and all files were just fine, in mp4 format.

Cons: Where I had a few minor problems are as follows:
    1) I found that it would not record anything on the flash drive unless it is formatted in FAT32 or NTFS DOS format. I am a MAC user. Macs cannot format a drive to Microsoft patented NTFS format nor write to an NTFS formatted disk. It can, however, read from such a drive and also copy a file from this disk on to Mac usable drive. But what Macs could do was to format a flash or portable drive to either FAT32 based MSDOS format, or EXFAT format. The FAT32 disk works on this Cloner Box Pro, but it has a 4GB size limit. ExFAT (for expanded FAT) has virtually no limit. It can be read and written on by both MACs and PCs. Unfortunately, this Cloner Box Pro does not write on it. Attempts to write does not give an error at all. But at the end of the recording, you check it out and find no recorded file is missing.

As a result, I had to pull out an old PC windows 10 Thinkpad laptop I keep for emergencies, then reformat a flash and another portable HD on NTFS. That worked. Only thing it, back on my MacBook, I have to copy the converted videos onto another drive where Mac can also write and modify it. A small extra step.

Even after all that, some flash dries misbehave or take far too long to complete a record – meaning you need fast flash drives. On the other side, I tried a multitude of portable HD with USB 3.1 connection that draws its power from the USB socket itself. Many of them would not work. All in all, I found just a handful of external portable HD and a handful of flash drives that would work without a glitch. Whew .. that too some time to sort out. But once done, I now have two portable HD, of which one is connected while I might work with the recordings on the other. I stopped using flash dries because of the limited capacity, and that I have to plug it into a pc just to clear the files frequently – is a bigger hassle than using a large 2TB portable HD.

    2) The audio volume is low. I had to greatly increase the volume on the original player, and also increase the volume level on Cloner Box Pro. Even then, the volume was audible, but volume was lower than I liked. It can be later fixed on FCPX – or leave it like that and viewer can raise the volume on the player or TV. A minor inconvenience. I hope to find a solution to it eventually.

All in all, I am quite satisfied and pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to use this device. I hope the thing lasts for a long time. I intend to eventually get an HDMI switch so I can bypass the cloner from my box without having to yank cables in and out, and perhaps connect another video source without plugging and unplugging HDMI cables.

I finally found something that can record HD signals correctly. I have it connected to an Android box and I can record soccer games on a timer. The quality is great and it saves in MP4 format. I use it as a DVR now. The playback functions are not perfect but do the job. There is no slow motion and the forward and rewind are not friendly. But once you have the MP4 recording, you can just take the file to a PC and view it as you like. As a recorder this is a perfect device. As a player, it’s primitive. So, it’s highly recommended as a recorder and highly flexible.

I am using it to back up my rather large Apple collection. I have never agreed with buying a product that you don’t actually own, but ended up doing this anyway for the sheer convenience. If Apple suddenly went bankrupt, I would lose ‘s.
I use an Apple TV box, 2 in fact, as I have an older model, (that why I bought 2) and as it records in real time, I am slowly backing up my collection.
It’s time consuming, but I’m hoping to have it completed by this winter’s end!
It also records from SKY, which means I’ve been able to back up the two documentaries that I desperately didn’t want to lose ( they’re not available for sale!).
I hope this review helps other people to decide whether it worth taking a chance. For me – No Regrets, just wish I had discovered it sooner. And yes, I still buy from Apple… my collection continues .

This worked without any trouble. The only two issues for me were that it tends to record a darker image than the original which is also out put to the viewing monitor. The other issue, which might not be an issue for most users, is that it records in 30p even if the original footage was 23.98, which for my TV, which displays 24fps video in its native resolution, is a minor downside.

After carefully reading damn near ever review, watching literally every unboxing and tutorial review…..I finally pulled the trigger and got the Cloner Alliance Pro! It arrived, I hooked it up…figured out all the techy stuff…hit record..hit playback…and saw nothing..But thats only because the flash drive I ordered with it wasn’t compatible. I contacted customer service who suggested that my issue was probably the flash drive. I got a SanDisk 256 GB and bam! Recording works. The capture is so clear..played with recording ratios a bit and have had no issues to date. They’ve fixed a lot of earlier post issues. Like the recording and stop recording words being in the playback. The box also no longer has HDML in the center of the cloner that lights up. It just has Cloner. In fact the words HDML are no longer on the box at all except on the backside of the box describing features and functions. I love it. Would definitely recommend.

Considering I have the Elgato Game Capture HD, I was 50-50 on it despite the fact I have a laptop. However, I was intrigued by the ClonerAlliance Box Pro after watching RetroCore’s channel on YouTube. After seeing that and the features that it has, I was set.

At first, it was tricky and got my way around it thanks to the email from the ClonerAlliance customer service team! Had a few tests on it on the PS2 with SFEX3 and Winning Eleven 5: Final Evolution (Pro Evolution Soccer in Europe) and it did the job using the right settings. The best way to capture without the use of a PC and a good investment, might I add!

The Cloner Box Pro, is brilliant device. Only had it a few days, and at the moment have had no problems. To be honest at the moment it will capture anything attached with excellent picture quality and sound. Have even attached a portable 2tb HDD to the Cloner Box with no problems.
However , The only bad thing is the remote control you have to be very near to the Cloner Box, as the signal is weak. Also the file sizes can be a bit large.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersReally easy to use, and great for building up a movie collection for when you are on the go. I briefly played back a movie and the picture quality was just like source, downside on this though is i might have to do a few movies over again because apparently if you adjust the volume on your tv set it appears on the recording and the change in volume which is a pain cause i dont want to have to crank the tv up all the way for the full sound especially at night time. Customer service has been really great at clarifying issues for me in a timely matter. Overall quite happy with this and the software for this is also usefull. Update Aprill 11
I played back some movies where im sure i adjusted the volume during recording and did not see the volume adjustment icon on the recording which is great.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI am a bit of a gadget collector, particularly when it comes to video and audio. One of the things I have not been able to do is transfer digital video files from the satellite pay TV box that we use. There is no way this can be done without streaming and capturing the stream. The only outputs from the box are AV and HDMI, and so something that captures from an HDMI output is precisely what I was looking for. When I saw this product, at first I baulked at the price, because it was a fair bit to pay for something that seemed too good to be true and hence might not do what the sellers said it would so. The really good things are:
    1. The cloner arrived very quickly after the order.
    2. The sellers followed up on a query about using 240 volts, rather than 110.
    3. When I connected it to the HDMI in and then out to my TV, with the USB connecting the cloner to a PC, it showed an error message. The first or second FAQ in the manual showed what to do to fix this, and it did.
    4. I have streamed and recorded several things, and it has been faultless.
Downside? Nothing to report thus far, and I’ve given it a fairly good go.

I bought the Cloner Box Pro to convert my DVD and Bluray collection into MP4 files so that I can put them on my local PLEX server and play them over my Roku.

Initially, I had some real trouble with this. I plugged it all together the way the instructions showed and I could not see anything on two separate Bluray players. I went into the setup for the device and things looked a little funny (e.g. the time setting had the year at 2057). This was probably caused by sitting on the warehouse self for a long time and the data stored on the device went stale (e.g. a bit flip could conceivably change 2017 to 2057 in the year setting). I went on-line and chatted with the Tech Support people and they told me push and hold the SOURCE button until the unit resets. After that, everything works great.

I notice once little glitch in the video feed as it was recording. I am not sure if this is the Bluray player or the Cloner Box Pro doing it. My belief is the Cloner caused the glitch since this particular Bluray disc and player has never had glitches before. I will update this review as I continue to use the Cloner.

    Update 3/24/2020 – Touchy

This device is very touchy. I find that for best results, the USB flash drive should be freshly formatted with NTFS before recording. Several times, I had simply deleted files from the USB drive and then started recording. When I came back, the recording had stopped without any explanation of what went wrong and there were no files on the flash drive.

Other times, I found I had to reset the device back to factory setting by pushing the SOURCE button for 10 seconds.

I contacted tech support and they gave me a new firmware. Since then, I still have problems with USB drives which have not been freshly formatted.

So far, I have converted about 20 of my DVDs/Blurays into MP4 format using the Cloner Box Pro. The picture quality is very good with occasional glitches. After setting up my Samsung TV to play media files from my Windows 10 machine, the MP4 files play very well and I am quite pleased with the results.

I am also glad that I bought a 3 year warranty from Amazon since I a little worried that the Clone Box Pro will fail before that time.

Update 3/26/2020 – Throwing in the towel

After upgrading the firmware, I have come to the conclusion that either this product is either a bad design or the particular unit I have is bad. After two failed attempts to record one of my DVDs, I’m throwing in towel. The device is not very reliable. I am still debating whether to return the product or replace it.

    Update 5/4/2020

I gave it one more try, except this time I connected it to my computer via USB. It works great. No glitches like with USB drives. The software is good and lets you set the recording length so that it automatically stops after a movie is done. I’ve converted about 1/2 of my DVD collection using the cloner and so far the only complaint I have is that the MP4 files seem to be a little dark.

This is a great value. Works exactly as advertised. I gave it five stars because, for most people, it is. The only thing I could suggest as an improvement is this: the box will record 4K, but if you use it as a ‘pass through’ device between your source and your TV, be aware that the output to your TV will only be 1080p. Most people do not have 4K TVs, so they won’t care. If you have a 4K TV, the solution might be to put a 4K splitter after the source and send one 4K output to the TV and the other to the cloner box pro. Essentially, you do would use the box as a pass through device.
Lastly, while you can use a USB memory stick, I suggest you buy a 2 terabyte external hard drive to record the video.

I have over a thousand hours of VHS, 8mm, mini-DV and HDV videos that I wanted to digitize. The box does the job. Took a little while to figure it all out, but it works great. Changes any input to either 1080p @30fps or to 720p @60 fps. Both look great on computer or my 51″ 4k TV. Either way, the files use about 4GB per hour. It plays back immediately after recording – all without using a computer. You can adjust picture quality while previewing and then set for recording. recording works best with flash drives. 1TB drive had trouble connecting, but easy to transfer to drive later using computer. I bought a 5TB external drive for $120 that will hold 2,500 hours of these mp4 videos. I’m happy with my purchase.

This works very well to record from your TV or a movie from one of the free movie channels. You will need to download the free MP4 Cloner program which is free from the company if you want to remove any commercials. The instructions are a little vague on using this MP4 Cloner, as you need to remove the movie parts in the trim section and then use the combine to put them together. This can take some time. After you do that you can transfer the movie to a Disc, provided the disc has enough gigabyte to record it on. It does work like the old VCR recorders. I have not had to contact the help section from the company as of yet. Would recommend this to anyone wanting to record.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersUpdating my 4 star review to 5 stars! This unit is reliable and versatile (after using it for a while, you get a better appreciation of the features).
I had been searching for an HDMI recorder for a while, but the prices were crazy .. this one is worth the money!

Many streaming services have great content, but pesky ads and often inconvenient windows for seasonal offerings (e.g. Christmas shows / movies in October or March). Also, busy people have little time to see their favorites before they disappear. Add to that, those annoying cable / satellite DVR units with encoded hard drive storage, which can’t be off-loaded for future perusal on a laptop.
You PAY for that DVR (with limited disk storage), or the streaming service .. so watch the programs at YOUR convenience .. before they remove the limited time program you want to see in the future!

Just place this device in series with your HDMI sources (2 inputs available) .. or from any component or composite video source .. and feed the output to your TV (the TV doesn’t have to be ON). I thought it limiting that a USB drive is preferred for recording (FAT32 in 2GB segments) … but this unit has never bungled a recording! Cropping off a longer movie using the 2GB segments is not a hardship at all! The 720p and 1080p format recordings are crystal clear!

With their Cloner MP4 trimming and combining software, it’s a quick and simple matter to get just the segments you want to record (including a simple multi-segment trimming feature for those pesky free streaming site ads). I have tried several of the “higher end” video editors to perform the same trim / combine functions, but gave up due to complicated procedures and very lengthy times to edit an program (these “professional” programs have lots of features, but a simple, non-compressive ‘cut and combine’ seems to be lacking). The included (via web site) software does an amazingly fast job of trimming and combining (along with some MP4 conversion choices, after the editing is done). This, currently, only works on MP4 files (which are generated on the storage device by this unit) .. so if you need to use their program to edit other video file types .. use a general video converter program, first.
The software won’t save you video file size by compression, but the ease of use is worth it (you can always compress the video with the “convert” feature .. or use a “higher end” compression program for those phones and tablets).

You can use the included remote to control the recorder .. or you can perform more complex record / play functions by using their PC software. The manual can be somewhat overwhelming .. but it covers things in depth for the technically inclined.

Finally .. their customer service is very responsive and helpful .. and I would purchase other devices from them, whenever those birthdays and holidays come around!

I have been frustrated by not being able to record programmes from my Virgin V6 box and after several blind alleys, I came across the Cloner Box Pro. It isn’t a cheap option, but it solved the problem and it is a useful tool for many other video-related jobs. The thing that most impressed me was the customer service. When I had a few problems at the beginning (through my own ignorance rather than anything to do with the equipment) the customer service dealt with it in a friendly and practical manner. Then they followed up asking if my problem had been solved – something I have never known from a support line before. The box is a bit of a faff to use, having to plug and unplug endless leads, it seems, but it works and is well worth the money. Thoroughly recommend.

It was a good idea – sadly – using every tool at hand – every idea on the web – scanning the bar code – doing each step – over and over – there was little success. When it did work – it worked well – nice picture – but it won’t Sync to 720 p – nor 1080 at all – very poor chance of tech support – no software – had to send it back … still no reply back. Three months now. Online comments never returned – no 32 Gb Toshiba Key received by mail yet …

The Cloner does what it says it will do. And the image is great. The menus are a bit clumsy to work through and the availability of in/out ports could be improved. There are newer models available from ClonerAlliance and probably on Amazon.
The only monitor out port is HDMI but it was all I ever needed. Trying to operate the unit without a monitor is risky, but you can. I’ve used both HDMI out of the computer and 15 pin VGA. I recommend the HDMI. I ended up buying an HDMI splitter so I could come off the computer, split and go to the Cloner as well as a projector.
All in all, it’s a good box and if I buy again I’ll go to ClonerAlliance first to check out new models.

I purchased this product to record HDMI from a Sony video camera. I used it as a stand alone device where no PC was required. It functioned absolutely flawlessly and as advertised! I set up a timed start and recorded 120 minutes of video with audio that I inserted into the HDMI video stream.. the result was a perfect recording..I was extremely pleased as well as other folks that viewed the video which I uploaded to YouTube.
I like the features to be able to record VGA and RCA composite video as well and the ability to switch between HDMI and VGA/RCA inputs which I plan to use in the future.
The software that is downloaded for PC use with this product allows for easy combining the recorded segments as well as creating a finished video.
The customer service was also excellent and the best I have experienced so far. They responded back to a technical question I had within 24 hours and even followed up a few days later. Could not ask for more.
