This camera is fantastic!
I was a bit unsure of using this camera with the price being so low and having a solar panel. But that being said I would not hesitate to get more of these if needed in the future.
The solar panel works perfectly my camera has never gone below 96% battery.
Picture quality is great (day and night), motion detection works great identifying cars, people and even dogs and cats passing my house.
There is a small led light on which is quite powerful considering the size. Also has 2 way audio and a siren (very loud) that you can trigger manually in the app.
The app will notify you every time something passes so if you live in a slightly busy street turn the notifications off. But it does record all movement to look back on until you are ready to delete.
Does everything it says on the tin and more!!
Fantastic value for money
Brilliant battery and solar powered camera. The unit is very stylish and discreet and could be used anywhere. The camera and mounts feels very sturdy and are a lot more competitive than many other competitors.
The process to install and setup was really easy, plugged the camera in and it started charging, connect to the app and inserted a memory card. The picture quality is excellent for the price and the waterproof cover at the bottom helps keep all the components dry.
Such a great camera, HD with great night vision! If you’re looking for a good quality camera, definitely choose this one. I’d recommend this to anyone
Great camera very good quality pictures
Outstanding night vision
Easy to set up and install 10/10
We have a home security system, but it we don’t have any cameras in our backyard/garage area. We live at the edge of a neighborhood and there are woods behind us. It not really that traversable, there is a steep hill that goes to a river. Still it would be not too difficult for someone to cut behind the houses and walk along that edge. We were robbed once (thank goodness we weren’t home…stuff is replaceable and I don’t want anyone hurt) and I don’t like not having security.
Anyway, this works really well for the back area of my house. We have it high enough that someone can’t just rip/turn/cover it. It gives us a nice view of what is going on back there (and a nice shot of our nightly deer family visit). I like that it is solar so I don’t have to try to run power or recharge a battery.
Hi. There are approximately 200 acres of undeveloped woods behind my house and my family has been using this Cpvan camera to see what types of critters emerge from the woods to explore our backyard at night. I’ve had the camera installed, and operational, for a little over a month now and it has been both educational (deer and foxes – yes; a reclusive fisher cat – not yet) and a lot of fun to use. Here’s a quick overview of what else I’ve learned about it.
– The camera, the solar panel and it’s connecting cable, and the (2) gimbaled mounts have all been carefully made. I have not discovered manufacturing flaws in any components I received and they all have worked the way they are meant to.
– After installing the app onto my iPad (I’ll get back to this in a bit) I charged the camera’s battery before using it, as the instructions recommended. It’s a simple process and took a much shorter amount of time to accomplish than the instruction booklet predicted. When I first set the camera up outside, I experimented with its positioning over the course of a week and was both surprised, and pleased, by how little the battery drained over this period. The camera is now connected to the solar panel and the battery indicator rarely dips below “almost full”;
– I pulled down the Cpvan app from the Apple “App store” installed onto my 2021 iPad Pro without problem. The app is a fairly bare bones affair that allows some, but not a lot, of customization. During the setup process, there are pop-ups with the expected invitations to subscribe to the company’s cloud services. While I may consider that cloud option at some point, the local storage configuration I am using is working well for now. As part of its setup, I inserted a new, inexpensive, Samsung EVO Select 64GB/130 MB/s microSDXC card into the camera and it has been working great; and, finally
– While, there is a learning curve associated with using this camera and it’s app, it is not especially steep. I have, however, experienced a few unexplained hangups with the app that has forced me to reboot my tablet to make the app function again. This app freeze-up has happened 2-3 times in the past five weeks so it’s something that I’m keeping an eye on.
The takeaway This Cpvan camera system has been a great deal of fun and I’m glad that we have it. While my family is using it solely as a “nighttime backyard critter-cam” it clearly is adaptable for many other uses. The camera, its solar panel and rechargeable battery all work well together and the battery’s storage capacity is exceptionally good. In short I believe that this solar powered system is a solid value for the money* and it is one that is easy to recommend.
Note! – As I write this review (in early January 2022) there is a 20% off coupon for this camera system on its Amazon webpage. And, with that, a good deal on a solid system becomes even better! Have fu
I installed this in chicken coop area to watch from the house if anything is bothering them. This works very well, and I was surprised because it is a distance from the house and sometimes the Wi-Fi doesn’t reach all the way out there. Very easy to set up and the solar panel is keeping it charged. I can see well in the dark with the night vision and there is a light that can be turned on and it really lights up the area. I purchased a second one to view the rest of the backyard.
Such a best security camera, reasonable price with the best quality compared to other. Day and Night version video pretty clear, easy to set up and install. Recommended for everybody.
This security camera came in time. Our CPVAN home alarm system went off one night and we couldn’t figure out what’s happened. The camera has been installed, the angel of this security camera is wide which capture a better view of the street, what is approaching from the corner of each of the house , etc.
It’s easy to install, rechargeable battery by solar panel makes it so environmental friendly, and spotlight night vision is clear to see what’s been captured at night. The AI PIR motion maybe is too sensitive, we put it at low setting but it caught everything, sometimes, we don’t see anything on the camera, but, I guess it’s better safe than sorry! RIGHT!
This came fully charged and the setup was super easy. Even the app was quite easy to navigate and get this online. I am not sure if this works with Echo or Google, but I am fine to have this as a stand-alone app. Picture quality is good. It does take a little while to load live video, but my wifi signal isn’t that strong in the backyard. Two improvements: This is super sensitive, it goes off when the weather is bad. The video capture takes too long, so I don’t see what set this thing off.
The hard ware is 5 stars, it charges and stays charged, it has good night vision and decent video, the network reception is very good, and this could be a good choice for anyone who wants to fork over the monthly fee.
It is locked down pretty tight with minimal ONVIF support which makes for better security overall (we scanned it with nmap).
Several features are paid and only accessible if you upgrade to the monthly fee. Things like AI human recognition, setting up scan zones and some of the motion sensing capabilities.
The software is 3 stars but is better then many others so I gave it 4 stars overall.
Update: Stop if you plan on placing this camera in a high-traffic area. The solar panel cannot charge the camera if the camera is positioned in an area that has high-traffic activity and/or is generally a busy area. I have had many email exchanges with the seller, who was most accommodating and gracious, about the lack of charging capability of the solar panel in the area where I positioned the camera. Here is the gist of the problem I occurred as stated by the seller’s representative:
“Our technicians detect that your camera’s PIR (a sensor to detect motion) is adjusted to a low sensitivity. The duration of a video is 20 seconds. But the PIR has been triggered more than 600 times in 24 hours. Our camera is dormant when it is not working, so it consumes very little power, and the solar panel can sustain normal power usage in home use. But now it is always working, making its power consumption greater than its charging efficiency. Please try to adjust the angle of the camera so that its detection range does not include the main lane. Maybe you have adjusted the angle and there is a delay in the data we get.”
And in one of my final exchanges with the seller’s representative, he stated the follow:
“Based on your feedback, we have made some adjustments to the description of the camera. It is true that our products cannot meet the needs of all customers, so we should introduce our products correctly to our customers, including their functions and usage requirements. If some customers buy our products by mistake, it is both a waste of their money and a regret for us.”
I still rate the camera 5because the quality of resolution is exceptional and the camera is worth the purchase; just be cognizant of placement of camera.
I’m like a kid with a new toy. This is my first Smart Battery Video Camera (CPVAN) and I couldn’t be happier. The best features for me are the rechargeable battery by solar panel and the wireless connectivity; for the obvious reason that no electrician or wiring costs were incurred to install this unit. A helpful User Guide, in readable font size, was included and provided step by step instructions.
To download the corresponding VicoHome App, I was only required to scan, into my iPhone, the QR code conveniently located in the User Guide, and then follow the user-friendly prompts. Connectivity to my wifi was automatic after the insertion of my network’s password into the App. Another plus was the two-way audio capability that allows me to speak and hear the activity immediately outside my house.
The most desirable feature, however, is that I don’t have to purchase a Cloud Storage Plan, although a plan is available for purchase on the App, because the unit has a slot for a SD card – which I promptly inserted (not included), and seamlessly formatted under the Advanced Settings in the App.
Assembly of the units’ threaded brackets were trouble-free and screws for the placement of brackets were included. The hardest part was getting those screws into my aluminum siding, but I enlisted my nephew for that purpose.
Once installed, the resolution of the camera, both in the day and at night, were crystal clear, and the distance covered was as advertised. If you are simply looking to cover an area on your property, without fancy bells and whistles, I highly recommend this unit. Camera and components were also packaged well and delivered when expected.
Attention: 5G Wifi is NOT supported for this device; only 2.4GHz is supported.
Update: On day two, the camera discounted from the wifi. After reviewing the FAQs on the App, I removed the camera from its post, then scanned the QR code that was located on the camera into the App, followed the remaining instructions, which prompted the camera to go back online. However, I did notice that the battery indicator on the camera read almost non-existent, and I am using the included solar panel to keep the battery charged. Have not been able to solve that problem, yet (maybe lack of sun rays), but I’ll update when and if I do.
I have considered to buy the outdoor security camera for my front door then I found this camera from CPVAN. I’m so happy with the purchase. The prices is acceptable and the quality of product is good. It include solar panel function that charge the camera battery. So, we don’t need to care about the battery charging. Great video quality even no light at night. I’ll buy one more soon for my back yard. Recommend!
Overall, this is a great product, I recommend it.
The set up was ok, just like other smart devices. The quality of the picture is pretty good for day time and night time. I like the app, it has a lot of features/functions. It is comparable to some of the high end brands in the market. The battery last long, after 10 days, it still has 90% left with minium sunshine in PNW. You do need to pay for a monthly fee for cloud service. Using a SD card is an option but some of the features will be limited, like the AI recognition. Since the monthly fee is very reasonable, I think I will keep it.
This is a good wireless security camera with a solar panel. I buy it for the purpose for control my back door and my driveways. It’s working perfectly as I expected. The price is affordable and the camera’s quality is good. It looks valuable. I can’t believe that the angle of the camera is very wide. it can capture all my driveways and back door very clearly even at night. Really love it. If you don’t want to disturb from taking off the camera to charging the battery every time. I recommend this camera with a solar panel you just installed at one time and keep using it forever without caring about the battery.
It is a 2.4ghz band wifi so in if your router didn’t have that this could be a problem. Mine I can set 2.4 and 5 seperated.
The image has looked good on all my tests, good enough for my purposes. Is it a $1000 4k system? No but for what it is the battery life seems awesome, the alarm function works extremely well and has my phone buzzing any time my dog walks in front of it within seconds.
I had another one by a different brand that didn’t come with a solar panel and chargingit was inconvenient to say the least. I like how long the cable is you could technically mount the camera and the panel quite a ways away from each other if you should see fit to for my application this will work great. I’m considering putting the camera in my detached garage and the panel outside as there is no power where I’d ideally like it for best coverage without having to run power to it for a rental situation this fits my bill perfectly.
The night vision works better than I would have expected it to and the audio quality is great for a camera of this price range and all one type size. My previous one dropped connection many times and this one has not dropped once yet.
It does require a micro SD card I threw in an extra 32gb I had and seems to be again plenty for my needs. Will update as I use it in the colder weather was told it will work in as low as -10*C or 14*F.
Edit I installed it and it’s working great. Every time I have left I’ve gotten a notification. I didn’t even know it also has an option to turn on a white light while viewing the stream and we tried using it as an intercom when I was outside and wife was inside. Very cool camera.
A bit complex to set up but if i can do it anyone can.
Can not fault this camera it’s great for the price.
I have put this camera on my shed to cover the rear of my house, running power cables to the shed is no biggy but with the solar panel this camera comes with there is no need for it. The camera its self is rechargeable and can be easily moved to recharge but the solar panel makes that un-necessary. Its early days yet, I’ve only had it a week, but the camera has stayed at 100% power from the solar panel. If that changes I will update the review, although, the camera can be powered from a USB adaptor too.
I have added a video of the footage at night time, It really is excellent.
It’s really great. The installation is also very simple. I put it on my door and link it to my mobile phone. I can clearly observe whether strangers break-in at the door. Moreover, it doesn’t have to be very troublesome. It has to be plugged in and disassembled very conveniently. It’s really great and the video quality is very clear. I will recommend it to my friends.
