As it was a present, my friend is really happy with i
Used it three times so far. Once for a curry and once for a casserole, and for a creamy chicken dish. Good for frying the onions and meat on my induction hob. Need the small ring though. Also be warned the inner pot gets very hot, even the handles. Very pleased with it and would recommend.
Found this size particularly useful and can cook a large family joint. We use it nearly every day.
I’ve taken care of my crockpot but the coating still peels and I don’t know how to get a replacement part. It started peeling pretty much from the beginning of using it.
Easy to use and, thus far, I have not failed to produce delightful food with it. The recipe book is good.
Very good non-stick quality, very easy to clean and easy to use.
Bought this as I have an five-ring induction hob, it doesn’t work on all the rings. I haven’t worked out why as all my other pots and pans work on all the rings.
Only disappointment is that it doesn’t have a delay timer button.
Brilliant slow cooker! I can’t fault it. It’s so useful and time-saving to be able to brown/pre-cook ingredients when necessary on the hob, instead of having to use another pan. Another plus point is that the base is so lightweight, as is the pot itself. I also like the design of the pot (see photo). I had a Crock Pot back in the 1970s, but over the years I have had maybe two others (different makes). When my last one needed replacing I thought I would go back to Crock Pot as my first one was so good. What a good decision. Highly recommended.
I’ve used it to make beef stew and pork gammon in the first week. The cooked meat tender and juicy. The bowl is good quality and very convenient can be used on hob. The cooker is very light in weight. This size is enough for making two meals for a couple, save me much time. It’s really worthy for this price.
This is my second Crock-pot and it’s a huge improvement from the standard basic one: the inner bowl is much more light and easy to handle, works perfectly on the induction (you have to put it on the matching size fire eh!) and the body is really nicer and better done than the basic one.
Just a little remark: the hinged lid must be removed to take out the bowl, this is not always the best solution but well, i still love this Crock-pot!
So easy to use and clear instructions. Ideal for use when out of the kitchen for the day. Jam sponge also worked well.
This crock pot has the advantage of using it to brown meat in the inner recipient, directly on the flame, then transfer to the base. Lid is a little fiddly but once you know to open the lid from the side, to avoid scalding yourself, you’re ok. Keeps its moisture, impeccable, high temperature is actually hotter than you’d expect. Low is sufficient.
Really good size and shape, and so glad I can use the pot part in the oven.
Excellent product that performs as it claims . Takes longer than expected to come to top cooking temperature but , once there , it produces a lovely meal , especially good for stews and casseroles .
Compatible with induction hob which not all slow cookers can offer . Detachable lid is another bonus .
The slow cooker is an excellent size when cooking for 8 people or wanting to double up recipes to freeze.
The pot itself is light weight and very easy to clean. I haven’t found that it scratches as other reviews stated, obviously metal utensils would damage the surface. I have found that the cooker, even on low setting is quite high and meals don’t take as long to prepare as stated in cook books.
The huge disappointment is the digital timer. I presumed the cooker could be set to a delayed start or to switch from High to Low during the cooking process when not there. This is not the case so there is no advantage over a manual timer and yet it costs another 20 for this version. I don’t think the extra cost for the digital version is worth paying for and it is misleading to be sold as such.
Works well and works on our whirlpool induction hob and our new induction range
Love this, food tastes so good cooked in it. Also love the fact you can cook first over the hob and then use as slow cooker. A decent size, can fit a small chicken in there. A timer would make it perfect but other than that it’s a great slow cooker.
Because the seller describes an initial odor when first used, I did not mark this product lower. It performs exactly as described. Caution about the odor, it is very real the first time you use this. We washed everything as directed and thought it would be fine. I made slow cooker chili and the odor is present in the end result …. kind of like a burned rubber smell which permeated the chili. Before I used the appliance a few days later to make a roast I put the bowl about 1/2 full of water and added herbal seasoning, set it on high and let it “cook” for a couple of hours. Voila….no more odor!
This is my first ever slow cooker; I work from home so never felt the need to get one, but was persuaded to do so as our young teenage son is getting more independent and has increased rugby commitments, so we don’t always all eat at the same time any more. I wanted one with a keep warm facility so that I could cook one thing and then the family could take out their portion as and when needed. So far today is the second time in use, I made pulled brisket the day after is arrived and it was just delicious and so easy to do. Just now I have a butter chicken curry cooking and I loved that I could cook off the onion, garlic, spices etc then add the remaining ingredients to start in the pot on the hob before adding the marinaded chicken and then popping the pot into the cooker – great versatility.
It’s so easy to use, simple to clean and so far, big enough for all our needs. I can see this becoming a much used appliance, except for one huge drawback – the smell!! As I say, I work from home and the smell of the curry just now is unbelievably distracting!
Love the product, great on hob. Easy to use. However not worth paying double for digital timer that isn’t even a clock timer and a keep warm feature which arguably could be substituted for half the price with a simple plug timer…which is what our friends do.
A little pricier than other crockpots but I wanted one that would work on an induction hob. It works a treat and cleaning is so easy as it doesn’t stick or burn on!
Easy to use and to maintain although the lid feels a little flimsy at times. A little disappointed that the instruction booklet recommends filling the pot to no more than two thirds…..I bought this thinking that it had a large capacity. Overall, an adequate utensil for the Kenyan and would recommend if looking for a good all round family slow cooker.
The best slow cooker we’ve owned.
The controls are simple. Set power level – low/high, set time, go.
The pan works well on our gas hob and really saves on washing up if you want to brown anything off before cooking. It is really light so no problem lifting like thd older ceramic type. Non stick works really well. The lid also forms a decent seal so it retains liquid well during cooking. We now need to adjust our cooking to reduce the liquid content as our old one would build up liquid around the rim and then as the pressure built up, spray that over the worktop.
Most importantly it cooks vegetables and meat. This may sound stupid but our old one never seemed to cook the vegetables properly. We almost gave up on slow cookers but glad we bought this one when on a daily deal and reduced to 65.
Could maybe do with a delay start but as it drops to keep warm after cooking, this isn’t an issue.
Highly recommended!
Cooks food to perfection, & extremely useful to be able to put inner liner on hob.
Very expensive compared to other slow cookers
Very easy to use. The ability to sear neat first on the hob saves another pot getting dirty. Could be even better if there was a delay feature or audible beep when the timer has finished. Overall though a very good product!
Fantastic – easy to use and really easy to clean !!
I bought this as my first foray into slow-cooking as my sister is obsessed with the things and I wanted to know what all the fuss was about. I had some Amazon vouchers for my birthday so I splashed out on this Crock-Pot and I do not regret it one bit. It’s absolutely fantastic for things like stews and pulled pork, and the keep warm function means that even if I get home later than planned, the food is still piping hot and not overcooked.
The removable pot is great for browning meat on the hob before cooking and the non stick is an absolute dream. It literally just needs a quick wipe around and it’s as good as new. It’s also nice that it can be removed so that you can prepare a meal the night before, whack it in the fridge and then just lift it out and pop it in the cooker in the morning.
I’ve yet to try some of the more unconventional recipes (like the overnight full-english breakfast that’s been doing the rounds on social media) but I’m very pleased with this cooker, and it’s a nice looking piece of kit, so I happily leave it on the worktop on display, rather than putting it away after use in a cupboard. Highly recommended. Treat yourself. It’s expensive as slow cookers go, but for me the removable pot, large size and keep-warm function are invaluable.
I bought it for my granddaughter and fiance. They loved i
This product delivered on all fronts. Very happy with our choice!!!!
Much lighter, easy to use and clean & it doesn’t need much storage room
This crock-pot is fantastic! I love how versatile it is, in that you can brown and saute using the internal pot before slow cooking for hours. Also so useful in terms of having a timer which will slow cook for the desired length of time before then auto going into keep warm mode. Perfect for winter dishes!
Love this crockpot. Lid fits perfectly so there is no evaporation at all.
It does the job it is meant to do and successfully. The inside pot can be very hot after a few hours so wear oven gloves. It looks good and is easy to store providing you have the room available.
I’ve had this for nearly a year now and it still looks great and performs perfectly. Really easy to use. I love the fact you can put it on the hob to sear the meat first so flavour stays in the pan, no need for mutiple pans. Now winter is here again it stays on my counter top and is used most days. Big enough to make enough food to feed our large family. Looks smart and clean in white too. Wouldn’t be without it.
Amazing little more expensive but well worth the extra cost it’s my 3rd slow cooker & by far the best I’ve had, wish they would make a set of pans with the coating on I’d have a set of them too.
Crock pot has just arrived – washed and tried to test on my induction hob. My largest hob ring is at the front of the hob, however I get a fail signal simply because the bowl is oval and the hob ring is round. I am sure that I will get used to using a different hob ring but buyers need to be aware of this. Other than that it has a nice weight and feel to it the lid is easy to use. I am sure like my last faithful slow cooker it will be worth it.
Which recommended as best and its great. Also bowl works on induction hob.
Brilliant bit of kit, we looked at cheaper but this does what it says, and cooks everything perfectly, the digital screen really helps to know what is going on, cook time etc and when the cook is finished, it automatically switches to keep warm.
Arrived really quickly. Easy to use, love being able to brown off the meat using the same pan. I have an induction hob and it’s works perfectly. More pricey than some models but worth it for the time it saves washing other pans. This is easy to clean and probably the best ‘non stick’ surface I have come across. Love it and would recommend.
Timer/keep warm function is very good and searing or browning in the pot means no goodness escapes 🙂
Its a super cooker and does exactly what it advertises.
Love love love it, not as big as I thought couldn’t fit a joint in it, it’s deep not wide
Can’t fault this. Unbelievably light and works like a dream
Having had an original Crock-Pot over 30 years ago – that I loved, I was hopeful this one would be better than the other brands I have had in between. It is – so much better than I expected. The saute option on my induction hob is invaluable, for veg when making soups and for meat when making casseroles.
The capacity is far greater than it looks as the bowl is so deep. The no-stick surface cleans in seconds no matter what has been cooked. Lightweight – cannot fault it at all.
I would have liked a hinged lid model but they do not do a hinged lid with the saute option. If they ever do – I may buy one of those too!
I love this cooker! Makes my food prepp much easier, there are so many recipes to try as well. So far it hasn’t put a foot wrong and I’m glad I paid a bit more for a quality brand
I love the duraceramic inner pot. It is non-stick, light and so easy to clean. Plus points for not having to worry about dropping it.
Absolutely love this product. Use all the time now. Well worth the extra money. Highly recommend.
Now used it several times for stews and oxtail…..convenient, easy to use and delivered really tender meat.
This has totally changed how I cook in my kitchen. This makes it so easy to have home cooked dinners every day. It makes it so easy because you can prepare the food in advance and it will be ready to eat later, even when you get home from work. It makes it so much easier for me to eat healthily and stop reaching for microwave meals. You can easily fit enough to feed a family in the pot so it sorts everyone out. Best of all there is only one pot to wash at the end! I have also enjoyed making soups in this, which has been excellent. Crock pot is a great brand and have loads of recipes on their website for when you run out of ideas. Such a great appliance to have in the kitchen.
Best slow cooker. Large pot and added bonus can be used on hob even induction.
I love this Croc-Pot slow cooker! It has everything I wanted! It does a meal for 2 plus leftovers for freezing. It’s big enough to take a small chicken or do a meal for 4, yet doesn’t take up the whole counter top. Now I’m able to seal the meat and cook the onions on my induction hob before placing the aluminium liner in the crockpot so I’ve no additional dirty frying pan or saucepan! Easy to remove lid for when inserting the pot or removing the pot for serving, yet with the hinged lid I’m able to add ingredients without drips of condensation everywhere.Non stick surface on the aluminium pot makes it so easy to clean! For once all the blurb on a product you read before you buy is accurate! Did i say I loved it? Well it’s worth repeating!
Very nice slow cooker. I started out with the original croc pot which cooked well but needed a separate pan for browning, then moved on to a different brand with an aluminium insert. Although you could use it on the hob it was thin and the bottom went out of shape after a while also it seemed to cook a lot hotter. So far this Croc pot seems to be the best so far, the duraceramic insert is sturdy and has a proper thicker bottom like a saucepan. I’m very impressed.
Absolutely fantastic product. I had one of the older manual crock pots but decided to upgrade to this model, it was worth every penny
Great product, really like the metal insert much more versatile and works on a ceramic hob.
Works well. Love the triple use: cook on stove, use as slow cooker and store/ keep in the fridge. Recipe booklet is appreciated.
amazing quality – the coating acts like a lotos leaf.
hope it is as durable as it appears…
Great product, very well made and practical to use. Easy to clean and produces excellent results. It is pricey but personally I think it is worth it. The capacity is good, we are a family of five and it’s perfect for us. Would highly recommend.
I have been using the Duraceramic Saute Crock-pot for 6 months after never using a slow cooker before. At first I browned some chopped beef in the pot on top of the stove then added some water and oxo cubes. I put the pot back in the slow cooker and put in the vegetables. My family aren’t too keen on too much veg so this is normally carrots, swede, peas, sweetcorn and a can of baked beans. I then threw in some small pieces of potato. I put this on for 6 hours on low. As it was the first time, I spent all day looking at it. The kitchen had a lovely smell of beef stew when everybody came in from work and we dished up from the pot still plugged in as it was now on ‘keep warm’ mode. The meat was so tender everybody loved it.
Now when I use it, about 3 times a week I don’t have a look apart from through the glass lid occasionally. We don’t dish up while the pot is plugged in as it keeps really hot for ages anyway. I often put some chicken breast or lean pork strips in and put a jar of cooking sauce on top, this makes things really quick with virtually no preparation.
The pot is not designed to go in the dishwasher but washing it is a breeze even when food gets dried on. A quick soak in soapy water for 5 minutes and a wipe round and it’s done.
I wouldn’t be without this Crock-pot now, as cooking filling healthy, syn free (if that’s what you are in to!) meals for the family has become easy.
Update. After 6 months. Still using at least twice a week even in the hot weather. Perfect results every time especially with joints of meat for Sunday lunch.
Update – 8 months. I had a problem with the coating on a part of the pot. I called the company and they sent me a new inner pot. You can’t get better service than that.
Used twice since it arrived and it is a good value cooker. The inner pot is lightweight and cleans easily. Recommend this cooker.
Simple to use. Cooks casseroles well. I haven’t tried roasting a chicken yet. Love the keep warm function and being able to use the inner pot on the hob or in the oven. Very happy with this.
Totally love my new crockpot . This is my 4th and my best ever. Great that it turns itself off and keeps warm once cooking time has finished.
Now that I’ve got it, couldn’t live happily without it!!!
I have brought this after my old cooker gave up after 20 years of service.
This one is not as large as my old one (6L) this one is 5L but it cooks perfectly.
Did a fig sponge pudding and it turned out lovely and light cooked to perfection.
The Duraceramic bowl is very light and browns onions and meat easily on the gas stove top before adding the Duraceramic bowl into the slow cooker base, which was some thigh you could never do with my old one, saves on an extra pan being washed up.
Very easy to clean and ease to use. Would highly recommend this to any one.
A great crock pot , easy to use and clean. Very pleased with the dishes I have made .
I love this crockpot. The best thing is that you can fry onions etc in the pot first and then just move it into the cooker. Saves washing up.
Well worth the extra money cleaning very easy and ability to cook on the job is grea
I love this crockpot and use it all the time, the non stick removable inner is so light and easy to clean.
I have used this three times, twice with recipes provided by Crock- pot and once with a recipe from another source, and all three on low only. All three have turned out even better than I had hoped. Frying in the bowl beforehand is a useful feature and the bowl washes easily. The base is lighter than expected, but that’s a bonus because it’s easy to carry it into the pantry. So far a great buy.
The best Crock-pot ever, Never get tired of using it. Would highly recommend.
Excellent, this allows me to brown meat on my induction hob first with our having to use several pans. Works and cooks perfectly
Simply the best, searched the net high and low for a decent slow cooker until I came a cross a survey for the best 8 slow cookers by the independent “you can google it to read about them” and this slow cooker came number one. I took a chance & bought it and I wasn’t one bit disappointed 5*+!!! Highly recommended
Very useful item for a busy family and if late back the pot automatically maintains the food warm
Very easy to use, and keeps the food warm automatically post timer shutdown.
Nice that the cooking pot can be lifted out of the cooker, makes it easy to clean and versatile in use.
Very happy with this crockpot. Very simple to use and lightweight which was essential for me.
I spent a lot of time looking for the perfect slow cooker, hand on heart Crock-Pot is the one, Well built, love the inner pot, it is really a pleasure to use, simple and straight forward cooking, I recommend it without hesitation.
Very good tired various other make, but crook-pot are the bes
Awesome. My family have used slow cookers for the best part of 30 years. This is the best one ever. Build quality and ease of operation as well as final product on eating is 2nd to none. Highly recommended.
Saludos.
Crock-Pot is the best of the different brands that I’ve tried when it comes to slow cookers. I find them to be very good quality, they’re reliable and are tough enough to withstand a few knocks. This model is one of the new designs which feature the hinged lid; the lid on my older Crock-Pot had to be removed rather than lifted back which meant that I had to find somewhere to put it down. When you’re short of worktop space a dripping lid is one thing I’m happy to be without, so I like the new feature.
It is very simple to use as there’s a single control and you only have to choose a heat setting — it’s either off, low, high or keep-warm. The latter option is one that I find very useful, especially when we’re eating at slightly different times as the Crock-Pot maintains a proper heat on the food without being so hot that it over-cooks it. One bonus on this model is that the cooking pot is suitable to be used to prepare food before slow-cooking which I find particularly useful when browning meat.
I’d have preferred a timer to be fitted too as I like the option of being able to set how long it cooks for before reverting to keep-warm, but that’s not on this particular model. Even without the timer it’s still a great choice though and its simplicity makes it more attractive to some people. The cooking pot is easy to remove for serving and cleaning, and the white colour of this model is attractive, easy to wipe clean and is probably a good choice if it’s to be left out. I like it a lot, and can recommend it highly.
This is a great slow cooker with some very handy features.
The bowl itself is very easy to clean and has a very useful feature of being able to be put on the hob like a pan to sear things instead of having to do it in a seperate pan.
The lid lifts up on a hinge so you don’t need to find a place to put it (while the condesation pools and drips) as you stir and then the lid can be detached fully to remove the bowl for cleaing.
A nice and easy to use slow cooker, chuck in your ingredients and then wait. No fuss. It does feel slightly basic, a little lighter than I was expecting and slightly less of a quality finish than I was expecting. No timer though which would have been useful. Could have done with a slightly larger print on the instructions/recipe book and the same for the symbols on the actual pot itself.
But if you are new to the crock pot type of cooking, I would have said this was a good entry level item to try out and see if it is your thing or not.
Extremely easy to use. Just bung the stuff in and leave it. Three controls. High, Low, and keep warm. We found meat more tender when cooked longer at the Low setting.
Removable lid always handy but is the hinge really necessary? Simple handle would suffice. Also, the inner bowl isn’t terribly attractive looking when taken to the table. Looks a bit cheap actually.
The one we received was 4.5L and is plenty big enough for the family. Some left over for the dog even.
Does the job, but nothing fancy about it. We’ve had a number of slow cookers in the past and this one is no better than any of them. No worse either.
No timer. For the price it’s not enough. So docking one star.
Main things first, I was surprised at how easy it was to cook a surprisingly tasty meal, simple put the ingredients in the pot, switch on and wait. The result, in my first attempt pork shoulder following the recipe included, was a delicious, tender dish. It certainly is easy with just the preparation in ingredients to worry about, once they are in the pot and it is switched on there is nothing more to do, no basting or turning (although some recipes might require adding ingredients later in the cooking time).
However is was surprised at how light in weight the whole thing is, it just does not seem very robust. The cooking pot itself seems a little rough around the edges. A feature is made of the fact that the lid is hinged and so you do not have to worry about where to put it if you lift it during cooking, but you cannot remove the pot from the device while the lid is in place, so you have to take the lid off to get the pot out, which seems to negate this supposed advantage.
The little symbols for the cooking settings by the dial I find are too small, and too similar, to avoid confusion. In fact my first meal I cooked on the wrong setting (high instead of low), my fault because, unable to see the symbols clearly I assumed they ranged from the coolest to the hottest (warm, low then high) and so went for the middle one, in fact the settings are arranged, low, high and warm! Fortunately this error seemed to,have little impact on the resultant dish. On this same subject if readablitly the instruction/recipe book is printed in too small a type to be read with ease, although on the plus side at least the instructions are succinct, avoiding the pages of warnings that common sense deems unnecessary.
So overall I am impressed with the cooking capabilities, but really expected the crock-pot to have more the feel of a premium product at the advertised price.
My wife and I love cooking and have a kitchen full of gadgets and equipment. A crock pot/slowcooker is a must have in any busy kitchen. It can save time, effort and clean up as well as creating new ways to cook food, especially cheap cuts of meat. The long slow cooking process makes for tender meat and lovely versatile stews, soups and more.
This crock pot is especially good as the bowl comes out and can be used on top of the stove for browning. You just pop it back onto the slow cooker and leave it. Job done! It has the usual settings, warm, low, high and the hinged lid is fantastic! Just be careful of hot steam when you life it up!!
The outside looks a bit flimsy compared to others we have used but it has withstood lots of use in our kitchen. I am very pleased with the performance and overall design.
We’ve had a slow cooker since they were popular in the 1970s, firstly a Tower ceramic one and then a Tefal slow/rice cooker. We use the slow cooker for soups and stews and for slow cooking joints of meat. The Crock Pot looks good, far better than the Tefal, although build quality isn’t high, the knob on the front feels fragile and comes off easily. The see-through lid is really useful to see what’s cooking and it also has power indicator, essential to know it’s actually powered on. It actually works really well as a slow cooker, capacity is suitable for about four people. It has two heat settings and keep warm, we’ve always found best results on the lowest setting. In use the removable metal bowl gets very hot and you can’t remove it from the unit without removing the hinged lid, you also need to take care lifting the lid as the steam from the cooking can burn. The whole unit could be taken to the table but the mains lead isn’t removable, luckily it is only about 70cm long. The metal bowl can’t be washed in the dishwasher.
It comes with an instruction booklet with some useful recipes. Overall it is a competent slow cooker but there are better alternatives at the same price.
Good product, extremely simple to use, makes enough stew for 4-5 people, the great thing is you can let stews cool down and freeze them for later use if you’re single like me. Lid comes off completely for easy clean and removal of inside container. Washes very easily without effort due to the nonstick coating. Never heard of this brand before but it looks and feels like a real quality product too, the type of industry kitchenware you get in restaurants.
I have never used a slow cooker so was delighted to receive this one. It is lightweight and looks quite smart so can sit on worktop or will fit into cupboard according to wish. Contains an inner pot which can be removed used to sauce or even serve food as well as in the cooker. This is easy to cleanThe lid is glass and can be removed for cleaning. Controls are very simple to use. A dial on the front can be turned on, for keeping food warm and low and high heat. There is an instruction leaflet which also contains some nice recipes which can easily be adapted to your own recipes. I will uses this much more in winter for the warming soups and stews but I did try the bolognaise sauce. The recipe serves 4/5. It was really easy to do and the smell was great. Served with spaghetti it tasted very nice. As this freezes and can be used for other dishes too I now have 3 bags in my freezer.
I really like i
I am very pleased with this slow cooker. I understand that in the USA ‘Crockpot’ is to slow cookers what ‘hoover’ was to vacuum cleaners here in the UK. I haven’t previously used a slow cooker where you can saut the ingredients in the inner pot on top of the gas hob or stove. I found this made a huge difference to the taste of the dishes I’ve tried and since the inner pot is dishwasher safe then it’s also very easy to keep clean. I’ve made some chillis and stews and a Tuscan bean soup and am delighted with the ease of it.
It has three heat settings: the low setting produces succulent stews and casseroles and the high setting was useful when I wanted to make a chilli the same evening. The warm setting allows you to keep food warm, when hosting, say.
The only downsides I can see are that the lead is quite short and there is no timer.
Pros
+ The removable inner pot can be used for easy serving, to saut on the hob and is also oven-safe so you can add crispiness to your cooked meals. As it’s also fridge- and freezer-safe, it allows you to prepare bulk meals in advance
+ The 3.5L capacity makes it suitable for cooking large meals for the whole family
+ Very easy to use and the two heat settings are adequate for me
+ Hinged lid is safe and secure
Cons
– short lead
– no time
The crockpot was bought as a present and the recipient was delighted with it.
Very pleased with this slow cooker. Nice lightweight durable bowl in which you can brown off your food on the hob first. Easy to use. Cooker looks the part on your kitchen top!
Got this as an Xmas present and had it on straight away. Love the features that this offers over cheaper options.
I’ve really taken to slow cooking since buying one early this year, but had found it to be a nuisance that when the meat needed to be browned beforehand it had to be done in a separate pan. That’s not the case with this new Crock-Pot as the DuraCeramic inner pan can be used directly on all types of hob (including induction), unlike more traditional ones. That makes it simpler to prepare the food before it is left in the slow cooker, and although not essential it is a very nice touch.
The pan itself has a 5 litre capacity, and is easily big enough for at least 4 generous portions, although we’ve also used it for less. Personally, I prefer it to be a little over-sized anyway as it leaves more room for the chef to make changes, stir the contents etc. Cleaning is easy too thanks to the non-stick coating, and although it does take up a lot of space the inner pan and lid can be used in the dishwasher.
I can definitely recommend the automatic keep-warm facility as it’s a benefit for those of us who are out all day. The idea is that you set the cooker to be on high or low heat for the desired length of time using the digital display, and then it automatically switches to a lower heat setting which keeps the food piping hot but doesn’t cook it to the same degree. Obviously, there’s a limit to how long that will work without being too long (it is 4 hours) but we’ve found that the food does not dry out, although meat can continue to soften. Unfortunately there isn’t a delay to the start of the cooking time as that begins straight away, although because of the keep-warm feature that isn’t really a problem.
It is an attractive device which looks good in my kitchen, and given the room I’d happily leave it out on display, but it is easy to carry and put away too as it’s not as heavy as some other slow cookers that I have used. It is more expensive than some similarly sized Crock-Pots but then you do get the advantage of the extra features. If the additional cost isn’t an issue then I can definitely recommend this one as it is excellent.
As a complete convert to the principle of slow cooking, it is good to have this fine looking implement in the kitchen. I have to admit that the saute feature has not yet been sampled but the fact that it can be used on the oven or hob is a big plus. It’s real strength remains the ability to prepare food well in advance and come home to a delicious meal when work is taking its toll. In one sense confining the Crock Pot to stews, soups, and casseroles massively under uses it, but in the season of autumn mists, a stunning traditional Welsh Lamb Cawl hits the bullseye. As a native of the Land of the Song, it would be less than honest to acknowledge that the lovely recipe by the quintessentially English Jamie Oliver has been a roaring success.
The Crock Pot has a huge 5-litre capacity and so freezing is a simple option for any excess. Thankfully it is also very easy to clean and looks a peach on the worktop.
We have previously used a slow cooker, but one with a heavy ceramic bowel, and a simple dial on the front. This particular model looks modern, with it’s white and silver, and the inside bowl is extremely light.
With our old one, you need to use a separate pan to do any sauting or browning, but with this one you can use the inside bowl direct on the hob, to prepare ingredients, and then pop it inside the slow cooker itself.
The controls are digital, you simply set it to his or low, and then set how long you want it on for, in increments of 30 minutes. Once the timer runs out, it automatically switches to ‘warm’, although it warns you not to keep food on this setting for more than 4 hours.
We’re not yet very adventurous with our slow cooker, sticking to one or two recipes. With a nice new one, I intend to find and try out some more, so I will update this review if I notice any issues.
This is a huge upgrade on my last slow cooker, which recently cooked its final meal. While the price tag is fairly steep, you immediately get a feeling that you are paying for quality here. The inner pot is die-cast aluminum and feels substantial – it can also be used in the oven or on the hob! The controls look a bit daunting at first, at least compared to my last models single control knob that went from low to hot, but in fact they really couldn’t be simpler. Also, considering it has a 5L capacity, it doesn’t’ take up all that much space and is a nice looking model. If you have the money to splash out, I would highly recommend this slow cooker.
I have been using a slow cooker for years – but a very basic one.
With this slow cooker you can saute your contents in the pot on the hob (any type heating) and then continue on to use the slow cooker.
This is all down to the special coating of Duraceramic
You can even use the crock pot container in the oven
You can put in in the fridge or even freezer.
This is some serious technological development.
Not only do you use one container for a meal/dessert or starter, but can decide the temperature to cook at.
Food of course is tender, flavoursome and delicious
Oh and by the way it is a family sized crock pot
This original crock-pot put my original one totally in the shade (and to the back of the cupboard or to someone who could use it)
Firstly out of the box this is a very good looking item , the white/grey/chrome is very classy looking. The pot holds up to 5litres but because the pot is smaller lower down inside and flairs towards the top you can opt to do smaller meals inside it ( a great bonus as I often find my 6litre oval cooker too big) ,this one isnt going to cook a whole chicken as it is round and as I said smaller at the bottom , joint that chicken though and you woul easily get it in.
The controls are easy to use although I do keep trying to turn the unit on to cook after setting the time ,I press the power button when you dont need to .The power button is only for turning the unit off as it automatically starts cooking as soon as you set the time.
The build quality of this item is very good as you can put the inner pot onto the stove it has a very good induction capable base and is quite thick which doesn’t distort and conducts heat very well indeed, the sides do of course get hot but the handles on the side and lid are silicone lined so as to provide good grip and heat resistance.
The electric flex is fairly short so you would need to use it close to your electrical outlet.
This crockpot has put my present one into retirement. That’s because this one can be used on the oven top, meaning meat and sauting can be done in the crockpot dish rather than dirtying a saucepan. The dish can also be used in the oven if desired. And it has a timer that switches off after the meal has cooked and automatically switches into the ‘keep warm’ setting. If too much has been cooked you simply let the food cool and put the pot in the fridge. Then it’s ready for reheating the next day. No mess, no fuss and no hunting for storage bowls.
First things first I would just like to advise you that I have been given this machine for review purposes however my views are completely my own and without this opportunity I doubt I would have had the chance to make meals with a slow cooker.
I’m a little strange when it comes to leaving items plugged in and turned on when leaving the house. I have accepted my fridge freezer needs to be and only recently allowed my microwave oven to be left plugged in but this was due to not being able to see the correct time when switching it back on again. Enter this slow cooker from Crock-Pot! Now a lot of people use these while at work so when they get home their meal is ready and waiting but I am just not there yet knowing that something is cooking alone in the house without my supervision. It’s fine though these cookers do what they say and that’s cook your food slowly! think of it like a television being left on standby, it’s on but only running at a low power!
Inside the box you get the machine, a small instruction manual and a recipe book of recommended meals. (Recommended the Lamb and sweet potato curry)
The machine comes in three parts. The removable die-cast aluminum pot and lid are oven-safe allowing you to use it to slow cook using your oven or fry on a hob. The machine itself is quite bulky but than again it does hold 5LT’s.
Controls are unbelievably easy that I think just about anyone can use it and has just four buttons to operate, right one for power, left one to select cooking speed of a low or high temperature (also there is a warm option at the third press but this is strictly not used for cooking) and the two buttons in the middle to select the time which increases/decreases in 30 minute increments and counts down anywhere from 30mins to 20 hours.
As I previously stated there is a warm mode which your machine will automatically use once the time hit’s 0. This is to keep your food warm and should only be used up to 4hours.
Cooking could not be easier, just throw your ingredients in, select your temperature and time and away it goes.
Plus points
* Removable lid and die-cast aluminum pot can be used on the hob or in an oven
* Very easy to clean
* Auto Warm Feature
* Simple controls
Negative Points
* Would like to have had the option to start cooking at a specific time
* Bulky/storage issue
* If there is a power cut while you are out you have wasted a meal
I would advise to fry ingredients like onions/ veg and brown meat before slow cooking to add extra flavour and to soften. As it’s so simple to use I would recommend one of these to anyone interested in slow cooking their meals. Not only has this brand got a good reputation but how simple they have made this machine to operate with little cleaning afterwards gets full marks from me.

Today I made a fantastic Pork casserole, the meat was so tender, moist and beautifully cooked. I pretty much popped the whole lot into the pot. Could not believe how easy it was. The instructions are really clear, set the heat to high or low and then set the timer and it automatically starts and count down the time remaining on the wee screen. The pot is big enough to feed a large family it is also bigger than other slow cookers Iv seen on the market. It comes with a wee recipe book with great ideas of things to cook. Im able to batch cook stews, soups and casseroles and freeze what I don’t use. The only negative thing I can say is the main cooking pot is not recommended for dishwasher use. This does not bother me as I tend to hand wash my pots and pans anyway.
