    Does what I need
I’m a fencer not a tree surgeon so I only occasionally need to fell a tree this does the job well and replacement chains are cheap, I’d seen reviews about oil leaks, I store it sideways no leak, she does get thru oil tho when in use, lots of oil

    Excellent saw
Don’t get me wrong it’s not petrol power but an excellent saw that does what it’s supposed to (just a bit slower) only downside is oil leaks when not in use, so don’t put it anywhere you don’t want oil patches.

    Easy to use
I have used DeWalt for a long time and it’s my go to brand this little saw has cut lots of 12-14 inch ash with ease and is a threat tool. Yes may drip oil BUT I emptied the oil when not in use and leave it sat on its side no problem just a great little saw

Nice small toy. But powerful enough.
Nice small chainsaw. Light and easy to use. Obviously it’s not a work horse but for small and medium jobs it’s perfect, mine comes without the battery but I had 3 from another dewalt stuff. Its more than enough for that price.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersLooks small, but it’s amazing
First impression was that I should maybe semd it back amd order the 40cm. I then thought the blade is long enough for cutting firewood, so I gave it a go. It went through 4 pallets in 40 mins. I used vegetable oil rather than chaimsaw oil – works perfectly. This machine is an excellent buy – the fact that it’s smaller also means it’s easily transported. This will pay for itself in a day or two when I consider the high cost of firewood. Buy one!!

Product is good, delivery is bad
Product is good. Delivery was bad and stressful. 1st time didn’t deliver although parcel was expected, bell would be heard and door would be opened. 2nd time was delivered to wrong door and left there. Would it be possible to look, if issues with address on google maps, where on google there is name of building!? ALSO delivery instructions were provided, and would it be possible to read instructions – very straight forward. SO delivery was absolutely stressful and good that item in price of 200 pounds was found.

I took a bit of a punt on this as I was sick of straining to get a two stroke Stihl chainsaw to start and the noise. The very best thing about this was pushing a button and it just starting!
It’s not industrial grade equipment, maybe has 75% of the punch of my 12″ Stihl chainsaw, but plenty for jobbing.
I’ve been running off 3 x 3ah batteries, rotating charging
Chains nice and sharp, rail is nice and sturdy, adjustment is easy, easy to clean, the brake is pretty quick and has a nice positive clunk to it, it does chew through chain oil a bit more than the Stihl. I tip the oil out back into the bottle after use and haven’t had any leak in storage.
Keeping the Stihl as back up, but a very tidy tool the DeWalt.

    Great for DIY
I’ve got a Stihl petrol chainsaw and was sceptical about this, but it’s a surprisingly good little chain saw. Lightweight but still feels pretty sturdy.
Luckily I already had a good supply of 4 and 5amp batteries and with 3 on rotation I was able to work fairly continuously for a couple of hours.
As mentioned in a lot of reviews the chain oil reservoir leaks slightly when the machine is stored but the instructions clearly recommend emptying the oil when not in use.
    Definitely a good purchase.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersGreat little chainsaw
Having got rid of my old much used petrol chainsaw and already having several Dewalt XR18V tools this seemed like a no brainer, but was initially put off by many reviews complaining of excessive oil use and leaking. I decided I would buy it anyway as it would only be for occasional garden use. First job was cutting down 2 established trees, having up to 5 – 6 inch trunk, and I was very pleasantly surprised at how well the saw performed, cutting them both down and into smaller sections with ease. I was using it with a fully charged 5 AH battery and it was still showing a full 3 bar charge afterwards! It was also very nice no longer having the noisy 2 stroke petrol annoying the neighbours either! Afterwards I removed the bar side cover, bar and chain and cleaned everything up ready to put away. I was going to empty out the chain oil reservoir (as per instructions) but decided I would leave it in to see how bad the oil leaking issue was going to be. Well so far, 4 days after use, there is not a single drop of oil from it. Maybe I’m just lucky? … or maybe it was down to the thorough cleanup afterwards … I don’t know, but I would certainly recommend this saw to anyone for light to medium use.

    good little tool
Have bigger chainsaws however wanted something small and lightweight for cutting the odd bit of firewood, this does the job but christ it eats through the batterys.

Only thing I would say is that it feels far more “toy” than a proper chainsaw, this makes you respect it far less and have found myself using it without gloves of goggles a few times, not good when it could still do serious damage in a heartbeat! But as a tool its spot o

Handy saw for small to medium cuts
I managed to saw about 20 6″ dia cuts through soft wood with a 5AH battery.
Perfect for occasional use and a lot lighter than an equivalent sized petrol saw.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersReally good.
I bought this to cut down and prune trees at my allotment and to maintain some at home. I was a bit doubtful as to whether it would be much use being both small and battery powered. But, as I’ve got other Dewalt tools and batteries, I took the risk. Firstly let me say that you won’t be cutting down large oak trees with this, but if you’ve got moderately sized trees that need cutting down or pruning then this is for you. My wife and I had tried pruning a willow hedge at our allotment with a bow saw and gave up before we had heart attacks. This little thing did the whole hedge in under an hour with ease. We then cut down a small Ash tree that was shading one of our vegetable beds and then cut it into manageable bits, and again it was easy. Altogether we must have used the saw almost continuously for two hours and we still had life in the battery. So I don’t regret getting this at all and consider it well worth the money. Just don’t forget to order some chainsaw oil at the same time.

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersPacks a punch
I’ve used petrol chainsaws for 30yrs so I was a bit optimistic about buying a battery powered chainsaw but after reading the reviews and watching many YouTube videos I took the plunge and bought this without batteries as I have several 18v 5ah and 18v 4ah batteries spare from my drill and torch and impact driver.

On arrival it’s well packaged in the manufactures box with a good instruction book too.
Filled it up with oil and plopped a fully charged 18v 5ah battery in, ran it for 15 seconds to let the oil go through onto the chain then started cutting logs.

I cut 64 logs before the battery went flat. These logs were a mix of Pine and some Cherry and Holly, they ranged in size between 3 inches and 7.5 inches in diameter, with the average around 5 inches.

The oil level dropped to the low line.

I thought that was pretty good going!

The battery was very warm when I removed it.

I put the battery on the charger but it indicated that it was hot so it wouldn’t charge until it had cooled.
Meanwhile I put another 18v 5ah battery (used in a torch for a few days but still showing 3 bars) in the chainsaw plus more oil. I did another 40 cuts on Pine, mostly around 5 inches, plus two huge rounds about 15 inches in diameter just to see how it went through them, it handled them quite well, obviously I had to have two goes at it from either side but it did it.
The battery dropped to one bar and was still cutting fine but then the rain started so it was time to pack up.

    Pros –

It’s lighter than my petrol chainsaws.
Easily cuts through logs of the size that I can freely get so it’s ideal for me.
    I have spare batteries.
    Easy to wipe clean.
    Visible oil level.
    It’s quiet.
    It’s compact.
Easy to adjust chain (although I didn’t need to but I did have a play with it after packing up)
It’s really good at cutting logs, just take your time and let it do the work.

    Cons –

As mentioned in many reviews, the oil leaks, even after you have finished and tipped the oil back in the bottle it still comes out the pipe under gravity, plus it leaks out the filler cap (I’ll try the O-ring trick on the filler cap when the garage opens after the weekend, see how to fit the O-ring on YouTube). The instructions do say to empty the oil after use so I imagine this is the reason why.

Other than that oil leak it’s brilliant.

Build yourself a folding saw-horse from 2×4 timber to make life easier when cutting logs. Keep a couple of spare batteries nearby and keep an eye on the oil level and you’re good to go.

    Would I buy it again?

    Definitely, yes.

    Outstanding!
Bought this to replace my small Stanley petrol powered saw and this is infinitely better!
Has no problem cutting fallen trees with a trunk diameter of near 12″ (which is the bar length), has been a fab purchase for free firewood on the estate.
Don’t underestimate how powerful this can be even though it’s battery powered.
Few reviews mention they leak oil, actually the oil is from the chain, comes out of the bottom where it ejects wood chips, easy way to avoid as much, once you have finished cutting, just run the chain for a second or two before putting it away, a lot of the surplus oil is ejected out the front off the top of the chain.
    Highly recommend this item!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersWas siriously impressed.
Honestly didn’t expect the thing to be this good. So far it’s had absolutely no problem with anything! The 4ah batteries last longer than I expected aswell, slight loss of power Wen the batteries low but it really rips.
I see some people complaining about how much oil it uses but honestly I’m happy that it uses alot of oil. (Protects teeth and reduceses kickback)
It does leak however, that is the only con for me but I just keep it on top of a bucket and let it drip away.

I used 2 4ah batteries to cut this amount of wood.

    Excellent Chainsaw
This Dewalt battery Chainsaw is simply amazing!

I bought it as I am tryijg to move Off Grid / full Solar. This battery chainsaw was a little underwhelming when I unpacked it, it was light and appeared very plastic. I almnost sent it straight back without using it. WoW, what a mistake that would have been.

Sure this Dewalt is slightly thirsty on the oil but it out performs my plug-in Oregon Chainsaw (and that has a blade that is twice the size, with a self-sharpener device and works very well). In fact come to think of it, I have not used the Oregon since I started using this Dewalt chainsaw.

I highly recommend this chainsaw !!

    Light and very portable
Very handy saw that will tackle reasonably tough gardening jobs. Saws though medium sized tress with little difficulty but the saw blades need sharpening more often than full size chainsaws. However, the portability and ease of use makes up fr that.

    So much powe
I wanted to cut down a conifer tree that was too close to the house and since I have Dewalt batteries, bought this on a lightning deals. So easy to use, light, quiet and cut through the tree with ease. I need to find out the best way of storing as it was leaking oil but that was my fault.

    Tidy bit if ki
It does all i expected it to do ,it cuts thru 30cm logs and on 1 battery will chop up 2x3m Timber sticks into firewood size rounds. Sure you can more than double your outlay on the 54v version but i have loads of 18v batteries and its just a support saw. Oil tank is small tho ,so simply carry a small pot of oil .Works for me .A+++

It failed after cutting down one small tree
I cut down a very small conifer and after recharging the battery and using it again it failed. It had enough oil, the chain was right tension but it started then stopped. After that it just made a grunt and eventually was totally dead.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersGreat little saw
I don’t have a chainsaw ticket or expertise in using chainsaws so I was keen to have something small and manageable. This little saw copes well and was cutting softwood logs up to 12 inches with ease. I suspect a petrol machine would be faster but for cutting up firewood this was great and quiet too. It does go through a lot of oil. I was refilling it once or twice for each 5amp battery I went through. It took 2 5amp batteries to get through this lot.

    Goodbye 2 strokes
OK you wouldn’t get far into the amazon jungle with this – which is a good thing – and you aren’t going to be taking down and giant redwoods – which is also a good thing – but there is little difference in the effectiveness of this chainsaw compared to the petrol powered equivalent. Where there is a big difference is noise! And exhaust fumes! So if you want to go prematurely deaf whilst dying of pulmonary disease and watching the planet burn, don’t buy one of these.

Easily as good as a 2 stroke (small) saw
This isn’t going to be as good as a 24″ 2 stroke chainsaw, but that’s not the idea. This is to replace a 12″ chainsaw and I think it does that really well. With a new blade and a fully charged 5Ah it sliced through several large branches and logs with ease. And (!) the battery still had 3 full bars! The idea you can use a chainsaw without earmuffs and annoying the neighbours, is good too! It is easy to handle, with no smelly petrol engine or starting up difficulties makes life easier.
Another good point is that it uses Oregon cutting parts, which is a long established and successful company, ensuring good performance. For example, it uses Oregon cutting chains, so spares are easy to find. Finally, a good “hack” is that you can fit the DeWalt 16″ bar and chain (Oregon too!), which makes the saw even more versatile! I’m not suggesting you hammer your way through 16″ logs all day, but it makes the saw feel better balanced and it cuts 14″ logs with a little patience.
One of the dangers of chainsaws is kickback. Just Google it to see the injuries it can cause. Now the danger zone is when you touch the tip of a running chainsaw against something. By fitting the longer bar and chain, you are generally working further from the tip whilst cutting, making it (in my opinion) a little safer, as you have less chance of tip contact. Still wear all the proper chainsaw safety gear though. If something goes wrong, you can never be overdressed where safety gear is concerned!
This is a good, solid product.
