After seeing this large buttoned DECT Cordless Phone on Amazon I took a punt and purchased it for my elderly Mum. I am very happy with my purchase, very easy to operate and none of hassle of an answering machine.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThis is sold as a phone for an older, hearing impaired person but the design is good but not 100%. It has a mute button which can be accidentally pressed, which is the bane of the life of my older parent. Also the ring tone range is not tuned for his low register only hearing, and isn’t loud enough, even when set on 5. Good, but I am still hoping to find the phone really developed for a deaf 90 year old.

I ordered these for my lovely mum and dad who are both hard of hearing and the extra large buttons are a bonus. It was really easy to set up too.

Very easy to use, except for the Audio Boost button, which is a fiddly little surface flush button on the side. Hard to access and press for an oldie, which is most likely the target market! Otherwise great.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersMy mum is really pleased with the phone especially the clear numbers and the automatic answer facility noore hunting for the green and red buttons. We bought the 100w duo and a single 100w so she has a phone in the hall, by her chair and also bedside wish I had thought about this type of phone earlier. I had a problem linking the extra phone but I phoned the helpline and the guy who answered was excellent and had it all set up in seconds……..the same person had given me advice on the best phone for mum’s needs. I didn’t get his name but I was delighted with his knowledge and customer service was 100%. Thanks very much Doro.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersGood phone for elderly people, clear, bright.Good size for seeing numbers. One problem is the manual can be confusing for the older person I had to print off the manual for elderly person to help them. If you don’t have a computer and printer you have a awkward time with the manual. OVERALL GOOD PHONE WOULD RECOMMEND.They only had it a short while still getting used to it and setting it up for them.

The clarity and volume is very good, easy to enter contacts,. Downside – only stores 20 contacts and have not managed to store the one press numbers in Memory 1 and 2 (I am not very tec savvy) but entering the contacts was easy. I would have gone for the 105wr if I had researched more as this has an answerphone attached. Still very pleased with the purchase – good value for money and excellent for both my husband and I being hard of hearing, the clarity of sound is very good. The volume control set at 5 is sufficient for us at present but we can also use the boost button on the side to increase sound further if required.

Purchased as a gift for my Mum (80yrs old) who was struggling with the buttons on her old phone and missing many calls. No problems with these, loud and clear audio at both ends of the call and she loves them.

  32. Steven Winkelman says:

Bought for my 97 yr old Mum, very deaf and frail. Good points are she can work the “amplify” button easily, so is happy to be able to understand conversations again. She says she likes the “M1” and “M2” buttons as a quick way to dial family (me!) and has little or no difficulty in seeing the keypad buttons (1,2,3,,4 etc) even with poor eyesight. The only (slight) negative (hence the four stars rather than five) is the ringer volume is not unusually loud. It, probably, is no different than ordinary phones. This means she cannot hear it above the TV or when in another room. However, the purchase of an Amplifier (at a reasonable price) for the ringer soon sorted that, so, overall, happy with the ‘phone.

  33. GlindaClendinne says:

I loved everything about this phone, its design and features and the boost button for volume was brilliant. Sadly I had to return it as it didn’t ring or flash for incoming calls. I was on the phone to Doro for ages speaking to a very helpful lady who went through all of the features on the phone to get it to work, but to my disappointment to no avail.
I’m not sure if it wasn’t compatible with my phone provider (after lots of googling).
I ended up with a different make of phone with the same features which works perfectly.

Although this was a fantastic product, I had not realised that there was no answer phone facility (entirely my fault) and so I had to return the phones to the supplier. Golden Review Award: 25 From Our UsersWe bought this set probably 18 months ago now and it has given faultless service. OK, it is not perhaps quite as easy to use the menu as others are but once you are used to its little ways, you can live with it! At the end of the day, we bought it to make and receive phone calls and we wanted a caller display. It does all of that. Who needs all the complicated gadgetry, really?! Turning the volume up and down is easy enough and whilst the speaker system isn’t exactly “Dolby surround sound” it is more than adequate, unless your getting one of those irritating marketing calls from the other side of the world, but that is usually because of the person at the other end of the line! What has impressed us is the tough and durable nature of this set. The handsets have been dropped, stolen by our German Shepherd Dog and hidden! One handset was inadvertently left out in the garden overnight. It rained! When discovered next morning, it was soaking wet and lying half in a pool of water. Dried it off with paper towel and discovered it to be in full working order! For the money, I really don’t think this tough twin set phone can be beaten!

Set up for elderly parents ( late 80s) as they would not have been able to manage it on their own. Good quality chunky handsets and clear big number pad, display clear and sound loud. Early days, yet to know how they will get on with it i.e using the volume and boost. The M1/ M2 mem keys weren’t initially intuitive to set and took me a bit of scrolling thru menu to find ( on HS Set mode). They will need reminding to press and hold M1/M2 keys to get them to dial. Call log feature clogs up display and caused confusion – what does this mean? etc; , have to go into menu to clear it but they don’t need hassle of doing that. Couldn’t see option to disable call log?
Really is a case of the simpler the better at their age.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI had previously bought the product fve years ago and used the two phones as replacements for phones in an existing system, so I knew what I was buying this time. Prevously, I had not used the Base Unt aspect of the set, I had only replaced two handsets. This time I replaced the Base Unit of the old system and connected the two old Doro handsets to the new Base – as per instructons. No problems. It all worked well following the instructions in the handbook. I am very pleased with the product and so is my mother.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have Arthritis and find it hard to hold phones, but this one is perfect for my hands. There is not much choice in ring tones, but they are good enough & I love the fact that I only need click the answer button twice to get the loud speaker on . This phone has to be clearer than any phone that I have bought and paid a lot for in the past despite being the cheapest that I have ever bought. I am elderly as well as Arthritic & I have no hesitation in recommending this phone to anybody. The instructions , once I sat down and read them slowly, were easy to follow. Great phones, great service.

Golden Review Award: 24 From Our UsersHad already purchased the Doro duo 100W phones from Amazon a couple of years ago, and recently decided I needed another for the upstairs bedroom. Registering it to the existing base was an absolute doddle, no fuss, it just did what it said in the instructions. Great product for those needing a large button phone with some amplification for the hard of hearing.

    UPDATE Jan 2018

After only 14 months (2 months out of warranty !) the ‘CALL key’ has stopped responding to being pressed so it will no longer connect to the base station or answer calls, the other base station handset is displaying the same but intermittent fault.
Based on this, I rescind my original review, and would NOT recommend their purchase as a result of this.

  76. Anonymous says:

Generally works as expected and has plenty of adjustment to ringer volume and speaker volume. A good selection of ringtones and the ability to attach a ringtone to a contact is good. On the other hand my wife & I use the internal phone probably more than phoning out and it is irritating that in that situation you have to wait until a connection is made before the person dialling can switch the speaker on. There is no such problem with external calls. One more slight negative (probably due to the fact that we do not have an answer phone base unit) the contacts lists have to be entered separately in each handset.

  80. DoreenDavies says:

Ergonomics and instructions far from good but the sound is very clear, the ring tone volume is excellent for someone with damaged hearing and so is the volume control for speech which is adjusted with a simple toggle on the side of the phone. Against that is that a previous purchase failed after 9 months and its speech was not as noticeably good, but it was replaced without difficulty by Amazon.

Golden Review Award: 23 From Our UsersI first saw this phone in the RNIB catalogue but at double the price! I bought this for elderly parents so they could have the phone next to where they normally sit. Dad’s hard of hearing and registered blind and mum’s easily confused but I am happy to report that Dad can hear perfectly even without his earing aids as I’ve set the volume up high and it has large buttons so he is quite happy with it. Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersBought for my father as it has big buttons and more importantly an amplifier. He uses the speakerphone feature all the time time. Hope they keep making these as he has a habit of spilling tea over them (they are not waterproof which would be a good feature!) – the good news is you can buy an extra phone and integrate it with an existing base station very easily.

Bought for my very elderly (92+) mother so that she does not need to get up from her chair to answer the phone. The base station is in her bedroom. She has poor sight so the big numbers are very useful although returning the handset to the cradle is a bit fiddly for her. It can be set to auto-answer on pick-up, and she seems to be coping without any difficulty after a few practice runs. She would not have attempted to use anything more complicated.

  90. Anonymous says:

Bought this for my 95 year old mother who has arthritic hands and needs the large buttons. I set it up for her and she is using it OK. But it is perhaps over complicated for someone elderly and she is trying to read the manual thoroughly and learn all the things it will do, though I have told her just to use it like her last phone!
She does not need the extra loud volume as her hearing is OK, but it certainly sounds loud enough for anyone who does need this.
At least this uses standard AAA rechargeable batteries. Her previous Doro used a fitted battery that had stopped holding its charge and would have cost nearly as much as the phone to replace.

I bought these phones for my father in law who is over 90 years old. The buttons are large and clear and the screen text and numerals are larger than those on a regular phone. The ringtones are clear and there is also a volume boost function which we have not used as yet.

If I did have a grumble, it would be that there are more buttons than he needs or understands. However, I suppose most phones have more functions than most people require.

it is a good phone, for my 90 year old deaf mother, (the audio boost is great,) it is a little complicated only because she has had a stroke too but she can still use it.

It did go wrong after 4 months, and I had to have it replaced, but Amazon was an amazing help with this ,they made it very easy and uncomplicated to return it, and replace it with a new one-especially as she is on a ” life line “and it was a worry to us for her to be without a phone.

Purchased this item for a 93 year old lady who has little use of her hands. Found the setting up of the phones a little complicated have not yet been able to install the ‘telephone listing of her numbers’. The lady finds the buttons a little difficult to use – not easy to push. I would not recommend this telephone for use by an elderly person.

I supported my aunt to purchase this phone. She is registered sight impaired and needed a new telephone that she was able to operate effectively. Having searched on Amazon and read reviews, purchased the phones. It was easy to set up and useful that it has a number of programmed dialled settings. An usual range of ring tones! It also has a button to increase the loudness when on the phone but she doesn’t have a need for this.
    Brilliant phone, good price.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI bought this for my mother who was having difficulty with her old phone because of the small buttons – the phone was often not hung up properly. It was easy to set up, the volume levels are good with the option to boost and to use the loud speaker. Mum no longer leaves the phone “off the hook”.

Golden Review Award: 21 From Our UsersDecent sized handset and buttons for elderly fingers, and I found it very easy to set up. Ringer can also be set to a loud tone. Only problem is having to press different buttons for starting and ending a call which caused my elderly relative a bit of confusion as her previous phone only had one button for this function. Otherwise a good product all round, we no longer have to shout as loudly down our phone to make ourselves heard!

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersThis is a very good product which includes two cordless hand sets that are easy to use and programmmable with 2 memory buttons that are just pressed to instantly ring the designated numbers and a good memory for many more contacts. My elderly parents find them clear to read and easy to use.Like any cordless, they use power and,as we get the occasional power cut, i have installed an ordinary phone as back up for them to use in an emergency. Would certainly recommend them to anyone who needs a clear screen, large buttons, loud, variable sound and easy to use.
