Just bought the MTRX metal detector and has gone once out to find metals with my son. We haven’t got anything yet but are not discouraged to keep on trying this summer coming to have fun outdoors.
Excellent piece of kit at a great price. Easy to put together & set up and first impressions are great. Seems quite sturdy. Next step is to get myself a pinpointer. One tip may be to carry a spare battery just in case
Very easy to assemble – less than 30 mins. I’ve never used a metal detector before. Very intuitive – turned on and tested with a gold ring in the dining room. 30 minutes later, I found a gold wedding ring that was lost in the garden yesterday!
First of all, it’s really well made, easy to assemble and instructions are easy to understand. It also came with a pair of headphones and a really well-made digger – incredible value for the price.
I’ve been out once – weather hasn’t been too good since, but it was so much fun! Found a variety of metal objects – nothing valuable yet, but it was good to get to know the detector and know it works great.

buying this one from DR OTEK, is great with the digital display and easy and good quality feel,
I ended up buying 2 now for my Family member who also loves it and both been finding coins and other
objects along the coast. with the Club that you can join up to as well with lots of free ebooks to help with your journey this also has made this purchase a great investment for my Health and hopefully one day my pocket. also a good idea to get some rechargeable 9v Batteries .
Gave this to our grandson for Christmas, went for a walk on the local waste area we walked about twenty yards and located 2 coins 2 inches deep with a number range of 65

I could easily filter out the iron in my garden and search for more interesting items – although in all honesty I was chuffed with a rusty nail I dug up! On my first try, in the dark while everyone looked on, I found a copper button buried about 6 inches under the soil. The detector gave a solid indication of its depth, the material and the pinponter allowed me to dig it up with the really nice shovel you get with it.
The shovel is really good by the way. Sturdy and cuts through the earth easily creating a nice clean plug.
No fault of the package, but I would suggest getting a dedicated pinponter too. Although you won’t have problems finding treasures, you can save yourself time with a handheld pinponter. Dr Otek also have one for sale from memory.
In summary: absolute bargain and you get everything you’ll need as a starter into this really interesting hobby.
Overall we are quite pleased with the metal detector, we found the original wrought iron house numbers for our property, dating back to the 19th century when the numbering of the street was changed. May not sound much but we were excited.
I think we need to spend more time watching the video as we seemed to keep getting false alarms, where we would get a high reading, dig to no avail, check and get the same high reading then repeat. After around 3 times of this there would suddenly be no reading at all so not sure what we were doing wrong!
Will keep practising!
Had to put together ,a blown up picture would of made this easier, but i managed without too much trouble, have took it out for quick test, and so far it seems fine, only trouble was Alaminium drinks cans and the end of shotgun cartridges are Non ferris metals, so it cant really discrimate them from Precious metals ,but when i hit an iron nail the tone slowed down and the iron nail picture flashed, one very good Feature i noticed was the pin pointing it was spot on, thats about all i can say without a proper tes
Bought this for my wife as she’s always wanted to be involved in this pastime.
It is.easy to use and works perfectly. Great for those starting out without breaking the bank.
Nice and easy to build . Nice clear instructions. Only had cquick try in the garden but found it very easy to build and use …. looking forward to giving it a good outing soon……
I have never owned a metal detector before but wanted to try it out on a holiday so decided on the MT-XR package, and I am not disappointed.
The unit is very easy to assemble and lightweight, but still feels well made. The screen is easy to read and the different modes indicate the type of metal and approximate depth. The volume control is good and it also comes with a set of headphones, although I have not used those yet.
The unit had a built in pin-point function which seems accurate, although I did also invest in a separate Dr Otek pinpointer.
The digging tool included in the kit is very sturdy indeed and the carry bag looks hard-wearing. The included instructions are pretty sparse but there are more details instructions to download from the website.
Overall I am very pleased with the detector and would definitely recommend it as an entry level for beginners wanting to try out the hobby.

I’m new to metal detecting and have been pondering over which detector to purchase at a reasonable price for a beginner. I received my MT-XR a few weeks ago. It arrived well packaged and was easy to assemble and seems well made. It was easy to setup with simple instructions.
It is really lightweight (less than 2.5 lbs!) and easy to swing for long periods of time.
You can easily switch between modes, has a 3.5mm jack for headphones, which are supplied and comfortable to wear, and adjustable volume is welcoming.
It has a backlight, but have not used it so far.
The large display shows types of metal as well as its estimated depth
And the pin point function is very good.
Also included was a foldable pick/spade tool, which is very sturdy enabling decent digging.
All in all I am extremely pleased with the purchase and fully recommend it as an entry level detector, for people not wanting to pay out hundreds for a first detector.
Had mine now from jan ,with the otek pinpointer .good bit of kit found my first gold this year and laods of bullets.would recmmend this for anyone getting in to the hobby and the price is afordable
Arrived on time. Detector is lightweight, and controls straight forward to understand. Only used on beach so far and found tent pegs, nails and couple of coins. Dry sand ok, wet sand have to adjust settings or will give many false readings. Had a couple of strong signals but then disappear, not sure if detector issue or inexperience. Also purchasing a pin pointer could be useful
Light weight and extremely easy to put together. Quick start guide gets you up and running immediately with the full manual available on the internet. Brilliant pin-pointing mode helps you get on target. Make sure that you also buy the hand held pin-pointer too as this will really help locate smaller finds that are hidden in the soil. In a couple of days of backyard detecting I have found more than a dozen bits of iron, barbed wire, a bracelet and objects yet to be identified. The detector has shown me where the electrical cables lie on my property helping me avoid putting up a tent where the tent pegs and wind break anchors risk penetrating these cables. Smallest find using the detector and hand held pin-pointer was the size of an extremely tiny fish hook.
