Having already got a Draper D20 pressure washer I thought I’d try this D20 impact driver so I could share the batteries etc. I was a little reluctant at first as there are not many reviews and the opinions of people who have not tried the tools are negative. After finding a good YouTube review by a tradesman who actually used this on site, I went for it.
I have to say I was really very impressed! I’m just a DIYer but prefer buying good quality tools and making them last, I still have some ancient bosch tools that are still going strong. Anyway the feel of this is very solid and feels nice in the hand. There’s plenty of torque on tap and I found it controllable so that it’s easy to get the screw head exactly flush to the work without it disappearing down and splitting the surface. Also I’ve not cammed out on any screws so far apart from removing some already damaged old screws, and even then I got our some horrible big old screws that I thought would not budge. So far much better than my old “non impact” driver. I can’t compare it to alternatives but I can say it’s a pleasure to use and feels like it would last for ages and be up to far heavier use than I will ever put it through. The case it comes in is decent enough and there’s a charger and two 2 Ah batteries included. I already have a fast charger from the pressure washer and another 2 Ah battery with that. The motor is brushless so should last a long time and seems pretty efficient so unlike the pressure washer (which uses lots of power) the battery usage is modest and I personally have no need for a bigger battery. I think 3, 4, and 5 Ah versions are available if needed – I might get a 4 Ah for the pressure washer but really the 2 Ah lasts ages in this tool. The D20 battery packs use standard 18650 lithium cells so if ever D20 went out of production the battery packs could be maintained with new cells way into the future (by someone with the necessary skill). I don’t think this will be my last D20 tool purchase based on my experience so far! All I can say is “don’t knock it ’till you’ve tried it! I think this should easily be on par with any good mid price alternative.
