I bought this for my mum (86) so we could improve her contact options using just a mobile, she previously had a very simple basic analogue push button phone.
I’ve given 4 stars it could have been 5 but we did have some initial issues however I must say the help/support is second to non and very polite and helpful they understand that it’s more than likely that elderly people will be using these phones. That said if it had been left to my mum she’d have put it back in the box so if you do have issues probably easier if someone contacts the support that already is used to smart phones, they are very simple compared to say an iPhone but having a basic knowledge of how to navigate and understand the lingo will be a bonus.
Another plus is that should the phone have issues that can’t be rectified then they will replace the phone no quibble, when I called it was late on a Sunday and they called me back within 30 mins and straight away said look if we can’t fix the problem send it back and we will send a replacement no probs!
As far as the phone itself goes it’s light and simple, easy to use and navigate through the apps. I particularly wanted one with WhatsApp which is easy to download and set up so my mum now uses this more than anything as it’s a fee app and can make free calls, video calls etc which is brilliant as she can see all the family now not just hear them which is a big comfort for all.
The phone has medical info set up with the nhs apps and also a sos button which you can add your contacts to and it will dial out when pressed, as long as the phone is with them it’s a good feature if in difficulty etc.
My advice if it is a first introduction to a smart phone or you are unsure of the technology with elderly then don’t be frightened I sat my mum down and showed her each feature like taking pics, adding contacts, opening using WhatsApp etc etc then she played around with it for a few hours and is totally happy, give it a few weeks and it will be second nature.
