74HC595 Shift Register and LEDs

74HC595 is a Serial to Parallel Converter which has eight outputs (perfect) and three inputs that you use to feed data into it a bit at a time. This chip makes it a little slower to drive the LEDs (you can only change the LEDs about 500,000 times a second instead of 8,000,000 a second) but it’s still really fast, way faster than humans can detect, so it’s worth it! 74HC595 shift register is a type of chip that holds what can be thought of as eight memory locations, each of which can either be a 1 or a 0. To set each of these values on or off, we feed in the data using the ‘Data’ and ‘Clock’ pins of the chip.

LCD1602 Display module

LCD1602 module is a display that has an LED backlight and can display two rows with up to 16 characters on each row. You can see the rectangles for each character on the display and the pixels that make up each character. The display is just white on blue and is intended for showing text. Lining up the display with the top of the breadboard helps to identify its pins without too much counting, especially if the breadboard has its rows numbered with row 1 as the top row of the board. Do not forget, the long yellow lead that links the slider of the pot to pin 3 of the display. The ‘pot’ is used to control the contrast of the display.

DC Motors and L293D Transistor

In this project you will learn how to control a small DC motor using an R3 controller board and a L293D transistor, which is a very useful chip. It can actually control two motors independently. We are just using half the chip in this lesson, most of the pins on the right hand side of the chip are for controlling a second motor. L293D is quadruple high-current half-H drivers and designed to provide bidirectional drive currents of up to 1 A at voltages from 4.5 V to 36 V. The L293D is also designed to provide bidirectional drive currents of up to 600-mA at voltages from 4.5 V to 36 V and drive inductive loads such as relays, solenoids, dc and bipolar stepping motors, as well as other high-current/high-voltage loads in positive-supply applications.

Would be 5 star but had a couple of bits that are broken in the box. The relay had 1 pin broken off and non working LED but no big deal. Overall its a great kit to learn the programming side of it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good kit.

Loads of components to work with that are good quality. Progress through the pdf instruction manual and build knowledge and understanding. I built a PCB kit recently and realised I didn’t really know how it worked. So I bought myself this. Still being a kid at heart, I love tinkering on a kit in some form.this teaches, it’s good to learn new things at my age, keeps the brain going strong. This kit, will occupy you for quite a while, with the best of both worlds, tinkering, making stuff and learning. All comes neatly stored in a well made case. Plug and play to my windows pc. I advise you to visit the Elegoo website and download the latest libraries for your chosen kit. These are installed, uploaded onto the main board you connect to when going through all the lessons. You learn coding too. All in all, well worth my money.

It came inside a bubble bag that was put into the Amazon shipping box. The box of the products itself and its contents is perfectly intact, with the necessary components sealed in plastic bags, some of them even sealed airtight such as the Mega Controller Board and several Modules.

All the components are function properly, the breadboard is actually good quality, especially compared to others in the market.

The number of components that came with the box is really great, considering its price. They can be used in numerous different projects. If somebody is purchasing this to gain some hand on experience for a relatively good price with a more than usable quality, I would personnaly recommend this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality and Price

This is a wonderful kit for beginners.
There are plenty of good quality components to keep one busy learning electronics.
The bread board is great; all is included to start projects.
    Happy with the purchase.

So I picked this up as my introduction back into arduino, and let’s just say it hasn’t disappointed, not only does the kit come with a whole host of items for you to learn with and how they interact with the adruino, but the very well detailed guides are also hitting the mark, it’s a great kit to start with building any project amd learn through, the cost isn’t very much for what you can achieve with it, so for my final words, if you are ever looking to build a project and not sure where to start, here is where you start.

This is an amazing amount of kit for the price. All the equipment has worked fine and it contains a very impressive selection of parts (IR sensors, water level sensors, gyroscopes accelerometers, LCD displays, ultrasound proximity detectors etc etc). It’s a brilliant introduction to electronics and device programming for anyone.

I used to be a hobbyist in the 1970s and I’d have given my right arm for a kit like this! Having got an electronics degree, I’ve been a software developer for nearly all my career, but I thought I’d have a look at Arduino and see what it could do.

This kit is amazing value for money, and the tutorials are clear and well written providing plenty of detail for the beginner with lots of sample programs.

The only criticism is that the colour codes on the resistors are almost impossible to read, so you’ll need to either keep them in separate containers after separating them or use a multimeter to check them. Otherwise, perfect!

I wanted to start learning about modern electronics and this kit is awesome.

It has loads of projects to play with, all comes together organised in a case.

Haven’t had a load of time this weekend but installed the IDE and completed the first project and I’m pretty hooked I can’t wait to start the next project.

    Enjoy.

Brilliant kit. Ability to write code useful but many programs can be created by sourcing example code
    and making minor changes.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWe purchased this kit of bits which included so much for a school project. It opened up a world of possibilities. YouTube is full of education videos to assist in learning both wiring and programming the board. And within a few minutes we had managed to build, program the 1st few projects. My 10 year old loved it. We managed to build a crazy looking mars rover which in only a couple of weeks he learned how to control stepper motors. Plus add on control switches to make it go forward backward and to stop.

Perfect for intelligent kids from 9/10 and up to adults. Roll on the next school project.

Million and one things from 1 box

This has everything you need to explore the Arduino system, including a clone Mega2560 board. Connect to a computer to program the board. High quality, and a great selection of parts to wire in and control.

Could well be the best present I have ever bought my son. He chose this and is over the moon. There are apparently so many bits and pieces and he is very happily learning so much [he loves to learn] about micro control programming and how things go together. I can see this becoming more than just a little hobby and already he is thinking what he can make and will be buying more to expand this set.

Very worthwhile to anyone with an interest and yearn to learn.

This was a Xmas present for our 9 yo son who has other Arduino sets for a couple of years now, but he wanted this for having more parts. It’s complicated for me to give any more details, however my son is very happy with the product, so it must be good

Just great: everything you need, quality hardware, excellent documentation. I would recommend it to anyone setting out to learn about electronics and software, students, practising engineers, or just for fun. A lot of good stuff for not much money. I’m pretty sure you’ll have a big grin on your face when it arrives.

Has tons of things to do with it. Loads of youtube tutorials for it and fun projects to be built with it. Easy to use and to follow even if you don’t know programming. Me and my son are having a blast using it and building projects with it. I am a beginner with programming and he is 6. Just awesome.

Perfect gateway into real world applications.

Not just for the beginner: you can take these projects and take them wherever the imagination goes. Inspirational projects, I found myself buy more and more to work with Arduino resulting in a real world working project for the market (learning c/c++ on a more intimate level required though), this was worth every tight bit of money I had (though it’s value for money is good).

    No regrets!
