Husband bought to do a bit of DIY. He said it was really good value for money. Probably not for everyday use, but the odd DIY its just perfect.
There’s one reason only for my purchase of this saw. I needed to cut 150mm thick oak beams and my other circular saw couldn’t get half way through. This saw will cut to 85mm so two cuts, one each side should do the job.
And I’ll be honest here and say that being a cheap(ish) no name saw I expected it to struggle and almost be a one job tool ending up in the bin at the end of it.
Not a bit of it. It chewed through a huge amount of oak – which is damned hard to deal with in big lumps – with aplomb. It didn’t bog down and it cut deep cuts surprisingly quickly. That’s down to two things. A genuinely powerful motor and a decent saw blade.
Bottom line is that this rip cut (harder to do) an 85mm slot in dry oak which, is quite an ask for any make of tool let alone one I’ve never heard of before. Basically this sucker can really cut well.
Construction is just as good as decent name brand stuff. I’ve got a Skillsaw, Bosch and Evolution brands in my workshop and this is as well made as any of them. The plastic case is tough and made of high grade material – probably PA6 which is fibreglass reinforced and expensive to use. The base is a decently fabricated pressed steel base. Not as high end as a cast alloy one but less likely to get damaged if dropped.
The adjustments for angle and depth are the usual basic ones being a simple screw knob. Simple and hard to mess up. The angle marks are a bit out which I expected so I used an engineers square to set the blade at exactly 90 degrees to the base then scribed a new 0 point. I recon the mark was about 1 degree out.
It’s a big thing as well and weighs a bit so bear that in mind. That heft is a good thing though because it reduces vibration and damps down kickback etc. It also gives a sense of quality.
And that quality is enhanced by the colour scheme which is really close to that of Festool. I’ve a Domino and the green bits on this saw are identical in colour to their green. The case is black whilst Festool is very dark blue but at a glance the scheme looks identical. Bit cheeky but I’m cool with it.
Something which I haven’t got on any of my other tools which I really rate is a power indication light. When this is plugged in there’s a bright red light on the top to warn you of the status of the machine which hopefully should reduce the possibility of grabbing this thing when it’s live and accidentally turning it on. It’s a big saw and could do a lot of damage.
In use it’s simple. Same as most other saws and the controls are comfortably at hand.
Overall, for the money this is a genuinely superb saw and I’ve no hesitation in recommending it if you need a relatively cheap and large circular saw.
Excellent saw good quality & value, it has more power than more expensive units. The only negative was the box it came in was too flimsy for such a heavy piece of equipment, it was coming apart, & the locking screw which holds the blade at the correct angle was missing, luckily I had a replacement screw.
So no problem for me.
One of the only saws with a 235mm blade at a reasonable price
Great performer. It was exactly what I needed for a large railway sleeper project I was completing in the garden.
This rip saw is cheap but brilliant, does what it says on the tin. The use has been purely personal, shelfs, drawers, etc not used in a professional manner but would recommend this rip saw to any and all DIY enthusiasts.
Decent power, good features (such as laser) and adjustability of the saw.
For the price very pelased.
I’ve been on the tools for many years so take it from me for home use it’s a Great product and worth every penny in my opinion.
Only used this so far for sheet material up to 18mm ply, it cuts clean but I noticed that the angle of the cut was not at 90 degrees – out of the box I had to set mine at an angle of 4 degrees in order to cut square. I am not a fan of gadgets like lasers at this price and tend not to trust them so cannot comment on accuracy. I also fitted it to my saw table but as it does not come with any dust extraction attachment it is quite annoying. Cutting depth is quite good if you’re using it on a table but be aware that there is no riving knife so be aware of kick back, especially if you are ripping timber hand held.
Easy to use brought it to cut railway sleepers and it had no issues
