It’s a bit repetitive, but that’s the point of the game.
You die, get stronger, and make it a bit closer to the goal each time.
And even after you win, there is even a good reason to continue after you win by filling out the story each time and a custom mode that makes it harder to win.
The story and gameplay are great, I can’t wait for the 2nd game to come out ^^
Brilliant game that is worth every penny. You can really tell that a lot of time and love has gone into developing game mechanics, story and visuals. Absolutely love it.
Bought this on a whim after hearing about it, after having not played any console games for a long time.
Brilliantly entertaining, great gameplay dynamics and format. The story is also very engaging.
Enjoyed the sense of progression the game seems to encourage.
Let’s get the bad or of the way. This is a roguelike game. Every time you sure, you return to the start again minus a lot of upgrades you got during your last play. This means you will play the same enemies and areas over and over again, it goes with the territory and does mean that after so many hours, people like myself will simply so playing
HOWEVER, comparing this to another roguelike called dead cells, this keeps you feeling a buzz for longer. Firstly, it’s not a sparse world with no one in it. The starting hub had a number of characters with something new to say on each run. Just petting Cerberus, having your father dress you down for trying to escape hades, have support from other characters, it actually has some character to it, aided by the good voice acting. There’s also more in the way of permanent upgrades compared to dead cells, from adding extras to the main game chambers like healing fountains and shops, to rooms in the hades hub, to permanent stat upgrades, 6 main weapons to unlock (unlike a ridiculous hundred or something in dead cells) and keepsakes off each character you gift to. Oooh, there’s also a skeleton who actually enjoys letting you practice your weapon moves on him
The graphics are cell shaded and work well for a dark graphic novel look. Music is good, very bass guitar
Now for the actual gaming. Prepare yourself in the hades hub area first, getting any upgrades you can earned with darkness, nectar and greens from the previous run. Now choose your weapon and start. Each chamber will have so many enemies to defeat with your moves (basic attack, special and one that leaves the ability stuck in the enemy afterwards, limiting it’s use until you kill the enemy to take it back again). This is done in a top down isometric view, no falling to your death in a platformer environment like in dead cells. There are environment damages such as hitting pillars to drop debris on enemies, exploding pots, spike traps and lava. Some enemies will have armour (indicated by a gold glow) that means not only will they take more hits, their attacks will not be interrupted. After clearing a chamber, you will be given a choice of what for to go through next, with a visual indicator what bonus you will get so you can choose your door based on whether you want certain instant upgrades (that are lost when you die so can’t be used on future runs), items for redeeming for permanent upgrades in the hades hub, or a shop in the next chamber. After so many Chambers you will get bosses, a change of enemies and scenery in new areas, and eventually the end. As mentioned before, it’s a roguelike so is designed to kill you many times before your upgrades can get you fully through
The presentation for me is what wins this out, though it is not a 5/5 game for everyone if you need to see new levels constantly like in other games, hence why I’ve overall given it 4
Such a great game – from the art direction to the gameplay mechanics. Top tier. Also the character development, script and voice acting is stellar. Buy this game.
I had been looking at the game a while and final decided to purchase. I was not disappointed the package arrived early and in excellent condition. I will be keeping my eyes open for more great deals and opportunities.
I bought this game after hearing how much fun it was. I’m only a couple hours in, but I’m enjoying it. Dungeon crawlers aren’t typically my type of game. I’m usually playing open world RPGs. But the characters, story and gameplay in Hades are great. There’s variety and choice in how you can play. Plus, the art is great. Looking forward to Supergiant’s next project.
Enjoyable,I got a bit further most times I started a new game, after dying quickly for quite a few games. Not a masterpiece IMO.A good game with at least 6 different weapons to unlock. It’s quite old school in that u start a new game right back at the beginning each time u die.
Absolutely amazing game that makes grinding fun. Each new run is unique with gorgeous artwork and music.
Prince Zagreus is a God I would definitely love to meet.
This game is a masterpiece. Believe me the love put into the story, artwork and mythology all beautifully put together ensuring hundreds of hours of fun is worth much more than 20.
I’ve had Hades on PS4 since Thursday 12/8 & i’m addicted , HOPLESSLY ADDICTED , this is the best game i’ve played in years , its a Roguelike action rpg similar to Diablo lll but more compact & story driven but still has some large area’s with a ton of enemies to slay , when you die you start back in Hades (your hub) but this is a means to an end to further the story etc , at no point did i feel frustrated after dying (& trust me i died a LOT early on) , you keep all your earned keepsakes & unlockables though & there are a TON of upgrades (boons) to unlock and upgrade , its a massively addictive loop that i just cant get enough of tbh , its smooth too , not experienced any slowdown or framerate issues which is a miracle in itself seeing as some of the action is so frenetic & fast paced , in short this game is AMAZING & i dont say that often these days , this is a rare 10/10 & an easy one at tha
It’s entertaining, very time consuming, very fun, and the soundtrack is absolutely awesome. I’m having a great time with this game.
Came in quicker than I thought and in perfect condition.

Just an outstanding experience.
Dungeon crawler meets Greek mythology meets witty disco elysium dialogue.
Highly addictive!
