Great story, fast paced action, open world exploration, beautiful visuals and the line up for voice acting was incredible. Hands down the best game I’ve played on PS5 to date.

Bought a while back and still playing, I like the game and even side quests are more interesting than in predecessor. Fights are more challenging than before, the machines are so brutal and fast. Sometimes it feels tough but I’m not far in the story so it likely is going to change closer to the epilogue.

I really enjoyed playing Horizon Forbidden West on my PS5! The visuals are incredible and the gameplay and story was fantastic as well. My only regret is that I focused too much on the main quests and thus finished the game too quickly. But I’m still revisiting sometimes to do some of the side quests. Can highly recommend, really fantastic game!

This game is amazing and if you played the first game in the series, you know what to expect but I would occasionally run into very annoying bugs like one where the level wouldn’t let me progress until I beat all the enemies (which I did) but the game was still saying I had enemies to beat and wouldn’t let me move on. I did this 5 times before it finally allowed me to move on! Other than that very good game with interesting story. Would recommend

Horizon Zero Dawn was one of my favourite games on the PS4, fresh and innovative to the extent that I completed it multiple times and achieved a Platinum trophy, something I almost never do. Forbidden West suffers from second-game syndrome as it tries to achieve balance between evolving and remaining faithful to the original, for better and for worse.

HFW has amazing graphics. Unfortunately, this generation is plagued between a choice of framerate or resolution, and I will always choose the former. The smoothness of the game cannot be overstated when you compare 30fps to 60fps. Having said that, we also got a PS5 patch for HZD a while ago. This decreases the gap in the graphical jump between generations, I think. HFW is very impressive but less so when you consider how excellent HZD. It feels more like a gentle step forward than a generational leap. Still, it is a beauty of a game.

The gameplay of HFW will feel very familiar for those who enjoyed HZD. The general concepts remain such as bows, slings and tripwires, but there are notable additions with the increased elemental varieties and weapons such as spike-throwing. The downside of this is that there is a bit too much when it comes to variety. There are a ton of weapons, upgrades and elemental styles to play with. This is great if you enjoy tinkering but not if you just want to boost your power efficiently and quickly. Add to this the tedium of gathering upgrade resources and it wore down my patience before long.

Where HFW has made improvements is amazing, such as the grapple hook and the glider. These make traversal so much easier and more enjoyable that I cannot imagine playing the game without them now. What is a tad frustrating but also understandable is that gaining the ability to basically fly comes very late in the game. If this was gained earlier it could have really breathed new life into the game but 2/3 through the game I just wanted it to be over.

The combat of HFW is what aggravated me most, specifically melee as the slightest knock from an enemy seemed to send Aloy flailing across the battlefield like a ragdoll, making combat quite frustrating and slow. They have added some intricate combo attacks but battle is usually far too hectic to pull off these Mortal-Kombat-esque manoeuvres.

HFW has revamped the skill tree massively, but this also led to many useless skills (at least for me) and I was absolutely baffled at the omission of a skill to call a mount at anytime like HZD, considering we now have a specialist machine skill tree.

The story of HFW is simply a bit much at times. It makes sense that it needed to evolve but I fear they may be writing themselves into a corner with the outer space and Zenith angle. Having said that, they have also put themselves in a position where they have the flexibility to develop the story as they wish but having a clone of the protagonist seems quite unnecessary.

Erend is the most curious character for me in this game. He is literally side-lined and treated like a piece of furniture until the final missions. It sometimes seems characters are kept around until a dramatic turn is needed by killing them.

Aloy herself seems a bit too one-dimensional, with her sarcasm being quite annoying and her insisting on commenting on everything around her, particularly annoying when we’re faced with a puzzle and she narrates the solution to us.

Finally, the missions are very reminiscent of the first game. Far too often am I stuck following behind someone, which is never enjoyable. There were so many missions and so many characters that my only motivation ended up being for levelling up and skill points rather than developing the story. Speaking of which, the game needs to stop delivering walls of texts to us via the focus. Just have them narrated as we travel — simple.

In summary, HFW made some excellent improvements and some curious additions such as weapons and elements. The game was most enjoyable when following the main missions and doing the bare minimum of side quests and errands (I like that they have the self-awareness to literally call some missions ‘errands’ at least). The game had some very big boots to fill from HZD and probably made the right choice by making minor changes. I look forward to the next game and that’s the main thing.

An amazing game. I never played the first one but this game convinced me to go back and play it. The story is amazing and the gameplay is fantastic. It’s easy to spend hours just roaming in the open world doing side quest and lose track of time.

Horizon Forbidden West is a worthy successor to the first game, Horizon Zero Dawn. Aloy is a compelling character, she’s fun to play because she represents the player – i.e. given her experience and mastery of the. ‘focus’ device she knows what’s really going on, when the NPCs are stuck in their superstitious ways. The mixture of frustration and empathy that she shows to those in the world around her is what makes the role-playing aspect of the game so fun.

The plot continues NZD well, expanding the world building and upping the stakes, but still maintaining a personal touch. Her fight with *SPOILERS* the Zeniths and Regalla and her forces *END SPOILERS* is well crafted, with some real stakes.

Combat is fluid, though there are a bewildering array of options for weapons, outfits and buffs. To be honest I couldn’t be bothered with most of it. Towards the end I had one or two tactics that could be used to bring down any enemy. Only by upping the difficulty to hard and above could give me a challenge once you max the level cap and get legendary weapons. There is quite a bit of grinding involved to upgrade weapons, so be prepared to put in the hours.

The graphics are stunning, the different environments giving a strong sense of character for each of the individual settings of the respective tribes.

Puzzles are simplistic, but give the odd head scratching moments here and there.

Side quests do a good job of avoiding the fetch X, kill Y, return format. There are little backstories and characters that provide intrigue and nuance to the world.

Overall, a definite purchase for lovers of the open world RPG format.

After all the hype About the visuals I’m disappointed. Zero Dawn has better visuals on my PC in full 4k.
Everything looks amazing but there’s clearly low resolution and some poor anti aliasing. I expected more from the next gen. This looks almost like a ps4 pro game.

Without that out of the way I’m impressed with the lack of loadings, the beautiful world and the gameplay only in performance mode.
Also I’m impressed that after finishing zero dawn 3x they still created another one that gives me full attention. I thought it would be more of the same but somehow it feels like a new game. and I only just finished zero dawn on pc last year.

Other great things about the game, several options available including explorer mode which is what I chose.

Moving on to difficulty, I’m finding it a bit easy and I’m on the highest difficulty. Maybe it’s just the beginning.

With that said I’m glad I bought this for 20 second hand. I’m ps4 version with free update for ps5. Took me a while to download 100gb but at least I didn’t pay 70 which of I paid that at launch I would have rated the game lower.

Enjoyed watching my boyfriend play and following the story. Not sure what if I’d call myself a casual gamer but certainly not ‘hard-core’ either. I like what I like- Zelda, Devil May Cry, Sonic, Crash, the odd simulation game, played a bit of Returnal on my friend’s ps5 and enjoyed the story- and the freedom of having to accept that you’ll die a few times as part of the game. So I suppose it’s important that I can get lost in game ,the story, the universe within etc and unfortunately, Horizon’s finicky controls (and having to constantly pause and think ‘now how do I do this again? How do I make this happen, fire this weapon etc?’) took me out of enjoying the story way too often. Its not that the game doesn’t try to explain- it certainly doesn’t leave the gamer to explore the controls- so its not so much a fault of the game as it is an incompatibility with the type of ‘gamer’ I am. Maybe I’m getting old- maybe if I were younger this wouldn’t be such an issue, but then, maybe not- I can’t remember playing a game that heaps so much complexity onto the player at the beginning. My favourites are games that ease you into gameplay and let you play with just your sword and shield before introducing other aspects of the game such as other weapons, controls and abilities.

Maybe I’m an idiot who wants an idiot proof game. But I don’t think I’m entirely alone!

But I’ll stress that my boyfriend is enjoying this and I suspect my best friend will enjoy this game too.

So while Horizon looks pretty, I think it’s more suited to the dedicated gamer who’s used to such intricate gameplay. Not to say everybody is the same though. If you are, like me, an intermediate between casual and hard-core gamer and are attracted by the visuals and the story- if you have a chance- see what you think.

Just finished playing this game (main story) today (ps5). The story and gameplay are much more better than the original game. Taken me over 125 hours to complete and thats with exploring the most of the map.

Ignore the negative reviews because not everybody who has reviewed this game has played the whole game through, rather a few hours. I think its fair to say you should review the game once you have played it through properly.

The graphics are amazing and you can tell developers have put in alot of time and work and I dont regret spending the money to play this game. The game expands upon first game in every way. The story is amazing and the side quests are more interesting unlike some games (assassins creed). The map is massive and there is much to explore in the wild west. There are a range of weapons you can use but you need to level up by doing main and side quests as well as upgrading your weapons. You will need to use different weapons for different enemies depending on there weaknesses. There is also a skill tree where you can upgrade your skills to your own liking. There are some parts of the game liike the tailneck in the middle of nowhere where you cannot reach it at the start or middle of the game. You will have to complete more main quests in order explore certain areas of the game (but your not told that).

The ocean is an amazing place. Best Ive seen in a game. The music is incredible to. I love the soundtrack. My favourite is track of the game is: The World on her shoulders.

I don’t really have any bad points to say about the game apart from the climbing can be abit frustarating at times but nothing to bad.

I cannot wait for the next and final game!!!

Will be amazing to see what the developers come up with next. Although will be years away, I can’t wait to play it.

If your thinking about buying this game, dont hesitate buy it worth the money if you like story games.

    The gameplay is again excellent.

As previous release a great game with plenty of options for missions apart from the main one, allowing those who don’t simply want to be the fastest at completing the game to get some great entertainment. I am not a young expert game player but find the normal level of difficulty just right. The odd glitch but overall a thoroughly good buy.

Excellent game, good length story, and plenty of side quests.
It can get a bit repetitive on some of the side missions, but still manages to stay enjoyable.
If you liked the first game, you will love this.
The only downside I found was that the climbing is a bit awkward.

This is an enormous open world, beautifully created from snowy mountains, humid jungles and arid deserts. First 10 hours of the game you will be doing a lot of grinding to get you equipment levels up to a point where you are not dying all the time, but smart save points and visible progression mean that this doesn’t frustrate too much. It’s a great follow up to the original: bigger, better, more diverse and utilising the power of the PS5. My only negative is the endless cinematic cut scenes and dialogue. I really don’t care about the intricate family squabbles of a fictional tribe and this doesn’t add anything. Thankfully you can fast forward almost all of them. Highly recommended, at least 100+ hours of gaming to be had here.

Zero Dawn was quite simply a 10/10 game. Hugely ambitious and became the best game on PS4 when it was released. Forbidden West tries to hit those highs, expanding on the original that was such a massive hit. But it never quite happened.

I love the Horizon world, its back story and scope for the future, but whenever I play I just can’t shake the feeling that the developers got a little fed up of this game. I mean, there are some quite glaringly obvious short cuts which were taken in the game that it is hard to deny. Some character skins in the game are reused for different characters, with very minor changes, and even using the same voices. Then the dialogue for some characters just seem, lazily done. Like running out of things to say but they must say something. And some quests appear outright broken if try to complete them, until you find out later that the reason the quest appears broken is because you have to do it in a specific manner the game has set out.

Don’t get me wrong, there is a lot to love about this game. The Vistas are stunning, the music is simply awesome and the story, while a little confusing to track, does offer some new and tantalising storylines which I assume will be used in the future. Again, there is a lot to like here.

Does this game get top marks? Not for me. It isn’t quite up there with Zero Dawn but it does make for an enjoyable continuation of the world and will be enjoyed by anyone who loved the first game and subsequent add on.

As a Fan of the original, it improves a lot of aspects of the first game while also adding new stuff that great improve the experience.

Major improvements are facial animations which are not exclude from side missions, better input promps, better accessibility (like the addition of using gyro on bow and other ranged weapons), melee combat, better use of collectibles and better focus UI.
New additions to the game that improve it are the addition of more machines that are quite different from each other as well as new variants, new crafting & upgrade system for weapons and armour, universal chest to store resources that can’t fit in your inventory and a fun bored game minigame.

I think the story of Horizon Forbidden West matches and exceeds the first in a lot of places and greatly improves the lore and culture of the world. The performance options are nice options, one being native 4k 30fps and the other checkerboard 1800p 60fps (images from that mode), I personally chose the 60fps option as that felt better for me than 30 but is perfectly playable on the 4k option. But besides image and frame quality, both look stunning and I can’t believe this was able to run on a PS4 at all, even at 30, it’s truly a generational leap imo for graphics.

I do think you should get the PS4 disc as that comes with a free upgrade for the PS5 version while being cheaper, though mind you it might get annoying as even though you download the ps5 version, the ps4 version icon shows everytime you boot up though not downloaded. You can delete or leave it there, doesn’t matter much but it may annoy some people.

Overall I think its an amazing game and a perfect sequel to the first game, improving everything before and adds new stuff that are great. Can’t wait for whats next in the Horizon world.

Improves the first while adding great new additions

A much much bigger game than the first and even better. Phenomenal looking towns and locales which serve more purposes. Really interesting characters. Expanded ways to travel (you can fly!). You can fight better with expanded melee, valour surges and buffing systems. Heck there is even a board game called Machine Strike which is fun to play!

Lots of elements from many different games: Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Witcher, Assassins Creed etc. but on steriods. Really enjoyed meeting new and old characters alike. The side questing is of a standard I havent experienced before (no need to google here but there are some secrets and surprises).

Graphics are a new standard but it uses them to make the world and people seem more real on a human/emotional level rather than just pretty graphics. Sound FX are superb in 5.1 and its highly immersive fighting the robots again. The new ones are great but be aware many are not in the main questline. You do want to expore and discover ther world.

As for flaws, I guess the 60 fps performance needs tweaks for picture quality. The main questline could have been longer but given the huge amount of side quests its fine. The villains could have done with less mystery though Carrie Anne Moss and Angella Basset do a great job with their characters. Its just a fantastic one of a kind game. Enjoy. Will post some pics later.

To much to explain but if you enjoyed horizon zero dawn then you would enjoy this game alot as it improves on the first games story so much and fleshes out alot of old characters and some welcome new ones..One of the best moments for me is when you obtain the water breather as swimming under water is like playing a whole new game, its so amazing that sometimes i just find myself going in the water just for the sake of it because its just so beatiful and relaxing yet scary…but without giving away to much spoilers just go and play it you will not be disappointed…People keep comparing this game to breath of the wild but i say its more like monster hunter world, Final thought this game is just brillent the world is beatiful and dense, the combat has vastly improved from the first game with various playing styles to go about your quest or combine the lot of them making hunting the various enemies so much enjoyable plus so much to do and explore and the story is a slow burner but very engaging and deep once you have come down from admiring and taken in the vibrate and lushes world and just letting the story play out..Even if you havnt played the first game there is enough lore and information in the world and interacting with people to get you up too speed…So go on play it you will not be disappointed..

Having read some other reviews I can only conclude many others were drunk. Some comparing this to AC Valhalla. Are you mental? Valhalla is without a doubt one of the worst games I have ever had the displeasure of wasting money on. The combat is beyond a joke and the audio is genuinely comical. THIS however is an absolute masterpiece.

The graphics are superb on PS5
    The audio is cinema quality
The gameplay is engaging and satisfying. I am never bored taking out the machines and the loot feels generous and rewarding.

If there was anything negative about this game it would be the climbing mechanics. Sometimes Aloy just simply won’t reach or grasp for something that is so obviously in reach. The game doesn’t seem to know how the player wants to move when climbing.

Other than this very minor negative the game is fantastic and if you are on the fence then buy it. AC Valhalla isn’t even remotely close to this. The closest comparison I can draw would be Ghosts of Tsushima which is also an exceptionally good game.

The graphics for this game are out of this world. This is what a next generation game should look like! I’ve spent way too much time playing about with photomode which is something I’ve always overlooked in a game.
Gameplay controls are basically the same as the last game with a few new aspects to it (primarily the climbing) which sort of ruin it in my opinion. It was perfect the way it was, adding too much makes everything confusing.
Apart from that and the fact that Aloy looks like she’s transitioning, this new installment seems to be great (so far) Can’t wait to see where they take the story!

    Update;
After playing for about 30 hours now, it’s getting extremely boring. I don’t feel as engaged with this game as I was with the first one to point that I’m actually watching television and playing the game on mute.
The skill tree might as well not exist. At this stage in the game I’ve put in approximately 50 skill points and there is no difference in gameplay. The element of stealth doesn’t seem as easily accessible as it was in the first game either. Removing the whistling distraction perk makes it way too hard to clear out a enemy camp without being spotted.
I think if I hadn’t played the first one for the first time so recently, I may enjoy this game more.
You’re basically paying for the graphics and not much else.

Worth it when the price goes dow

I’ve played the original HZD on PS4 and PC. In expanding on the original they seem to have made it mixture of ideas taken from elsewhere. Tricky environmental puzzles and the oh so tedious crates, come on people that’s a Naughty Dog cliche, don’t add it to your games. Oh and getting I’m tired of ladders that drop down, especially when you shoot a lock or something.

Not saying it’s a bad game, but it seems to have gone from being quite an original game to one now full of gaming cliches.

Beautiful scenery to explore, breathtaking depth on landscape, great storyline and plenty of side quests. Expect long dialogs. Haptic feedback is not fully utilised compared to Returnal which is a big downer, too many weapon choices and skills that makes it unnecessary confusing. It’s a must play but distasteful that has been 1 week since launch and price already dropped almost 10.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI have recently just finished platinum’ing this game and I have to say, I enjoyed every moment.

Open world fatigue is a really big problem these days, but Horizon suffers none of this, as it constantly delivers interesting and new ways to present content, that feels fulfilling, and not lifeless like a lot of the competition.

There are times playing this game where I just stopped adventuring and took in the scenery, this game is seriously beautiful.

If you like Horizon: Xero Dawn, you’ll love this. An improvement in every way. Get it!

Honestly i have never had so much fun with any ps5 since release day. Everything is top notch! Story, gameplay, graphic is incredible! Mark my words when you enter first cauldron! Jaw dropping. Must have for all ps5 owners

There’s no reason for this more expensive ps5 version to even exist when you can pay about $10 less for the PS4 disc and download the free ps5 update. I’ve seen some people say the free upgrade is not as good as the actual ps5 disc which is nonsense. The file size of the ps5 version and the updated to ps5 version is exactly the same. Because they are exactly the same. Apart from the$10 difference in price

I’m about 12 hours into this game and all I can say is that it is amazing!
I loved the first Horizon game and this one is even better!
The graphics are beautiful and I love all the new features.
I really do highly recommend this game!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis has got to be the very first huge title for the PS5 that can show off the graphics, hard drive, 3D audio and controller features. Just check out YouTube for the absolutely stunning character models, scenery and stupidly insane loading times.

Carrying on a short time after the first game ended the story picks up almost directly where the last game ended.

The haptic feedback on the controller has been implemented properly (in my opinion) for the first time since astros play room (at that was a DualShock 5 tech demo).

I’m only a few hours into the game so can’t comment on the storyline, if it progresses well or how engaging it is but so far I can’t fault it.

I think the negative reviews so far have been overly harsh on their criticism and have not come across anything so far that I could fault this game for.

I’ve been looking forward to this for a good while and was the only game so far I’ve preordered for this generation and It has not disappointed.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersSo far I am finding this game to be incredible, I’m about 10 hours in and can already tell that I will sink well over 100 hours into this game, maybe nearer to 150, and that’ll likely be on just1 play-through. It looks incredible, the scenery is captivating, colours are powerful and vibrant, the atmosphere is so alive and the environment just really pulls you into a beautiful rendition of a post-apocalyptic, over-grown world. The story leads on immediately from Zero Dawn in a great way, and I am looking forward to seeing what the story will uncover next! There looks to be an abundance of side-quests and other missions/tasks, as well as customisations and options for multiple styles of play!
Definitely worth a pickup for any RPG fan, but especially for fans of the first game!

There’s no point reviewing Amazon’s delivery service, the high winds in the South of the UK meant that all shipments for 18th Feb were delayed, so I did received this game on the 19th, despite the tracking not working. For obvious reasons, I will forgive Amazon completely for this as they have no control over the weather, and I am very grateful I managed to receive the game on the following day despite there still being fairly high winds all weekend.

The game is set 6 months after the original and it doesn’t disappoint. There is lots of gameplay, great quests and a fantastic storyline. To top it off there is nothing more than simply tremendous visuals.

Great game play as per the first game and probably the best looking game I’ve seen! Played on the PS5 through a 4K TV, the graphics are unreal, the grass and water are so realistic, incredible how games can now look this good!

An absolutely outstanding game and sequel, i’m about 20 hours in and i still keep stopping to just take the visuals in because it truly is a spectacular looking work of art. The scenery is beautiful and the voice acting is faultless. I commend Guerrilla on their work. However there is still more polishing to do, there’s the odd glitch here n’ there. Which I kind of expected, as nowadays every game I play seems to have some minor issue. Doesn’t ruin the immersion or experience by any means. If those little issues where ironed out then i’d give the game a 10/10, it’s so close to it. Best game i’ve played on the PS5 ye

It arrived late because of the massive storm and it was to dangerous for the drivers to deliver. Sad for me but I’d rather have drivers safe over getting my game. Anyway onto the review, it’s massively improved over the first one, in every way possible! On ps5 it looks stunningly beautiful. With more vegetation and texture details over the ps4 version but that’s to be expected. Character models are beautifully designed and done, gameplay is more smooth and responsive. But for me robot dinosaurs and the acual world take it for me. The world is absolutely amazing and exploring it is a joy! The robot dinosaurs are so so good to battle and take down its unbelievable. Must buy for any ps5 owner! Essential! A system seller if you can find a ps5!

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersThe long wait has been worth it, I have played for around 10 hours already and the game is fantastic. It’s also one of the most beautiful games I have ever seen!

If you haven’t played the first one, you may be a little lost so check out a recap video on YouTube first.

    Highly recommend!
