1. DOES WORK ON DCC – Despite what is advertised, this rolling road DOES work running DCC locomotives. I have testesd on many locos and all works well.
2. EXTRA WHEELS NEEDED – I immediately needed to purchase the extra wheel pack that Hornby produce to run some of my locos. Comes with a set of 3 already installed. Bear that in mind when purchasing.
3. POWER SUPPLY TO TRACK – the track is powered using the Hornby style power connection. Your controller wires will therefore need to be compatible with this set up (i.e would not work with a bachmann power wire plug)
Overall – I find this rolling road really easy to use. Set up is plug in and go, and the only fiddling involved is the lining up of the wheels on the loco to the wheels on the rolling road…
The device comes with rubberised non-slip feet, and has a nice robust heavy feel to it.
All in all its the best rolling road in comparison to other brands out there…and definitely worth the money spent!
Got this to help service and chech my hornby locomotives and it works like a charm! It’s pretty easy to setup and I don’t have to build a track to see how the locomotives are performing etc..
Ottimo banco prova per modelli ferroviari di uso semplicissimo con pratiche regolazioni secondo il rodiggio del modello ed adatto anche per modelli di lunghezza particolare; perfetta l’alimentazione di corrente da un trasformatore 12 V.
Awesome but if kit saves me keep having it get out my baseboard…and don’t listen to the comment about it only lasting 30 seconds that’s a loco issue not rolling road….
Bought to test my locos works well bought it at a discounted price at under 60.00 good value not sure the full price of 90.00 is worth it for what it is
The Kings Fund Information amp Library Service says:
Great accessory for testing and running in 00 gauge model locomotives. Easy to use and adjust for various locomotive wheel configurations.
Well made, good quality from Hornby and can be used for all makes of OO gauge locos. Only down side, no instructions included
Excellent piece of kit and well discounted at the time.
Easy to use and very robust and well designed
It is dcc compatible but be careful of short circuits.
Bizarre that it’s advertised a live steam, when almost no one will have a live steam oo gauge locomotive.
Recommended. Ignore the other review that says it slowed after 30 secondsthat’s a locomotive issue not the rolling road. der!
It says on the box that I should find a set of instructions inside, of which there were none. By the by, I set up the Rolling Road (as I thought it was simple), which it was! I had an engine running on it in no time! However, after about 20 seconds of it running, it slows down, and stops. At first I thought maybe it was an issue with the locomotive, so I switched it out for an older, more reliable one, but found the same issue. It wasn’t cutting out, but rather slowing until it stopped. To ‘reset’ (so I can have another 20 seconds of fun), I have to turn it off at the wall for about the same amount of time.
This is a well made rolling road, a very useful thing to have in your model toolbox for testing setting up dcc and running in locos, worth every penny.
Does everything it should. I can understand why stocks have run low. It’s been a real godsend for testing trains after completing DCC conversion.
Great product from Hornby as always!
This is absolutely a first class product easy to use and really quality precisions made, having used a rolling road off Ebay, this is the Rolls Royce of rolling roads, easy to use straight out the box, and what I like is you can purchase extra rollers if required, can’t fault it.well worth the money.
The hornby rolling road is a good product for testing your locos and running them in. It’s pretty pricey for what it is, but very well made, if not a little noisy as it doesn’t absorb the vibrations very well.
I can confirm that is DCC compatible despite the amazon description.
I already had a rolling road, but saw this in a model shop and was impressed. Having received it and used it to program DCC locos, I am still impressed with the build quality. Such a shame that Hornby only supply 3 rollers and the extras are so expensive.
Well constructed piece of kit for testing and running in 00 gauge locomotives. The review suggests it is a toy but it is for serious railway modellers and should provide many years of service.
Purchased for use with Hornby live steam locomotives. These are difficult to control and the rolling road allows driving skills to be acquired in a safe way without danger of damage to expensive items of equipment. Using the road also means that loco’s can be run in confined spaces where it is not possible to set up a track or where a permanent layout is not possible. Recommended
Just what I needed for some winter maintenance on the rolling stock I have.
Adequate for your needs once you get the hang of it. Which doesn’t take much. A tad expensive for what it is.

Better than having to get track out to test trains mechanisms
I love these they are simple to use and when on offer are a great item to buy. When at normal price don’t bother look on ebay instead
Got this to help service and chech my hornby locomotives and it works like a charm! It’s pretty easy to setup and I don’t have to build a track to see how the locomotives are performing etc..
Had issue with first one had to return, sent another out all fine nice product.

I bought this for my husband. He loves it as it saves having to get track out, it hardly takes up any space and looks good too.
Awesome but if kit saves me keep having it get out my baseboard…and don’t listen to the comment about it only lasting 30 seconds that’s a loco issue not rolling road….
Not cheap. It becomes very expensive if you have to add spare rollers. Essential nonetheless!
Bought to test my locos works well bought it at a discounted price at under 60.00 good value not sure the full price of 90.00 is worth it for what it is
Not bad,you have to make sure you have a good connection with the wires, got there in the end
Awesome just what I needed I restore Hornby trains and it helps me no end when I need to test them to make sure they are good to go

Very useful for anyone who builds or services their own model locomotives.
Does everything it should. I can understand why stocks have run low. It’s been a real godsend for testing trains after completing DCC conversion.
Great product from Hornby as always!
Does the job however the rollers are not easy to adjust, may loosen up with use.
This is a great item just what I needed,Thank you.

Great bit of kit, got to have it if your serious . Easy to use and works well on my digital set up.

Great piece of kit for testing all sorts of locos
Running them in and maintainence work etc
no hesitation in recommending this item

Simple to set up and a boon for running in new locomotives or bedding in the gear boxes of self built models. Excellent.
