The Story of Hotel Chocolat

Hotel Chocolat was founded in 2004 to make people happy. Angus Thirlwell and Peter Harris built it on three unwavering pillars: authenticity, originality and ethics. One of the few chocolate makers to directly grow some of their own cacao, on their eco-conscious cacao farm in the grounds of their Saint Lucia hotel (yes, you can stay there too), they connect the world of sustainable cacao agriculture with the hedonism of top-quality chocolate. This makes them unique in the UK, and gives them an unrivalled understanding of what impacts the taste of their chocolate, right from the growing tree.
In 2006 they bought the 275-year-old Rabot Estate cacao farm in Saint Lucia, now home to the boutique Rabot Hotel. For over a decade they’ve been directly growing some of their own cacao on their organic estate, humbly learning the intricacies of every stage of the bean’s growth and the development of its flavours – from tree to bar – so that they can create chocolate with the best possible taste. In this way, and by working with cacao farmers around the world through their Engaged Ethics programme, they proudly connect the world of sustainable cacao agriculture with the hedonism of luxury chocolate.

I was sceptical at the price (even on special offer) but this is great. I like the Callebaut hot chocolate better than the official one. Also make a nice frothy coffee in it with coffee powder, half milk and half water.
A great piece of kit can’t believe how many hot chocolates we have had since buying. It’s like heaven in a hot chocolate. The only one bad point is sometimes the lid keep popping off when it warms up. The two cups are great too and the variety of hot chocolate sachets you get are good too to try, we wouldn’t recommend the ginger ones we hated it.
So easy to clean and use great for any hot chocolate fan !!!!

Nice and easy hot chocolate made with granules, either bought in or just buy a bar of chocolate and make your own granules. It’s helped slow down my alcohol intake as rather than drink a ‘few’ beers I look forward to a nice cup of hot chocolate in the evening before bed. Easy to clean too, literally takes 2 minutes.

The chocolate pack that comes with this are beautiful addition, its nice to just open the item and be able to use it out of the pack with the chocolate as well, the value is better than if you bought it direct from Hotel Chocolat, the chocolate doesn’t come with it direc

Bought on an impulse but I’m glad I did, its silent when it’s working, only takes about 2 mins to make the hot chocolate and it’s simple to clean and maintain. You can use any old hot chocolate powder but the hotel chocolat stuff is lovely. Why not…

Makes really lovely hot chocolate that is well balanced and has an excellent consistency. Very easy to set up and use.
The only minor caveat would be cleaning the Velvetiser, with some of the chocolate being harder to remove from the whisker.

However, we have found that 1 cycle isn’t long enough to heat and blend and have to run it again – sometimes twice more. Having said that, once it’s finished properly the blending is superb and the temperature perfect.
This makes amazing hot chocolate. No more boiling milk in the microwave for me! The sachet selection pack is great as there are lots of different flavours to try, but to be honest it’s cheaper to buy a pot of charbonnel et Walker and use that. It’s the same type flakes as the sachet so fine (in my opinion) to use in the velvetiser. To clean you just fill with soapy water and turn on. It takes 220ml of milk so I freeze pots with that amount in and then just take them out the freezer that morning for an evening treat! You can definitely taste the difference, it’s smoother and frothier.

Not cheap for what it is, but then it does a simple thing perfectly, every time, also really easy to clean, fantastic product. Recommend buying the cheaper bulk options for choc though, sachets are mega expensive – even if nice – but they even say that in the ‘paper’ you get with product. Cannot fault. Looking forward to using even more during the winter months

Bought as a present for my wife, who loves it. The supplied hot chocolates cover a wide spectrum, so there’ll be some that you like and some that you don’t, but I can (almost) guarantee that your perfect hot chocolate is in there somewhere. For her it was the milk chocolate and my daughter loves the salted caramel, personally the darker ones are for me, but we all love it. You can even use it with a grated chocolate of your choosing if you want, but most chocolate bars are a little too sweet, so we’re sticking to the Hotel Chocolat ones. Recommended to anyone who loves a smooth hot chocolate.
I love it, and it’s make the Drink warm which ready to drink directly. maybe in Cold country will facing a problem because it’s not making it so hot which will be cold fast for them.

It does amazing job, sooo easy to use and amazingly easy to clean. My favorite flavor is Original and my Husband fell in love with Hazelnut one. I love this. It seems like a very expensive whisk, but it’s worth every penny. The hot chocolate it makes is smooth and creamy, perfect temperature (I always put boiling water in the ceramic cup beforehand to avoid heat loss) and saves me money in coffee shop hot chocolate. Some reviews say it’s not hot enough but I disagree, it’s just right for drinking. The machine itself looks great – I have the copper one and I would highly recommend. I use the 70% chocolate but the milky 50% is really good too.

Ok it’s pricier than others on the market, however it’s a beautiful piece of machinery to both use and look at. And the accompanying cups are exquisite. It’s fast, easy to use. Works with other non Hotel Chocolat chocolate (as well as non dairy milks), and people will talk about it.
I like to whisk the chocolate twice to get it extra creamy. My nephews, who are notoriously fussy, loved the hot chocolate so that’s a Seal of Approval right there

Yes it’s overpriced, yes it’s simple. But it is a good present. The included sachets make a “heavy” chocolate, so you may be better buying the 90g container and varying the amount yourself to taste.

Makes absolutely amazing hot chocolate. We’ve used Hotel Chocolat’s own got chocolate but we’ve tried (successfully) grating down different flavours of Lindor chocolate and they have come out just as delicious. Bought as a Christmas present for my partner (admittedly for me too but won’t tell him that) and he has said it’s the best gift he’s ever gotten.
