The Story of Hotel Chocolat

Hotel Chocolat was founded in 2004 to make people happy. Angus Thirlwell and Peter Harris built it on three unwavering pillars: authenticity, originality and ethics. One of the few chocolate makers to directly grow some of their own cacao, on their eco-conscious cacao farm in the grounds of their Saint Lucia hotel (yes, you can stay there too), they connect the world of sustainable cacao agriculture with the hedonism of top-quality chocolate. This makes them unique in the UK, and gives them an unrivalled understanding of what impacts the taste of their chocolate, right from the growing tree.
In 2006 they bought the 275-year-old Rabot Estate cacao farm in Saint Lucia, now home to the boutique Rabot Hotel. For over a decade they’ve been directly growing some of their own cacao on their organic estate, humbly learning the intricacies of every stage of the bean’s growth and the development of its flavours – from tree to bar – so that they can create chocolate with the best possible taste. In this way, and by working with cacao farmers around the world through their Engaged Ethics programme, they proudly connect the world of sustainable cacao agriculture with the hedonism of luxury chocolate.

Bought as a Xmas present for my wife and she loves it. Simple to use and clean. The samples it comes with are delicious especially the salted caramel The cups are good quality too. Highly recommend
Very nice chocolate which is super quick and easy to make
Dithered for the past couple of years buying one.
Eventually caved in and bought one.
Used to use Cadbury’s hot chocolate (prob like most other people) and decided to upgrade.
Have no regrets – makes great hot chocolate – and you get different flavours.
This is like going from freeze dried instant coffee (which tastes like volcanic ash to me) to proper filter coffee – you can’t go back!
Once you try HC made in the Velvetiser you’ll realise you can’t go back to the old stuff.
Favourite flavours are the 70% HC (not too dark and not too milky), caramel and the mint.
If you’re lucky enough to have a Hotel Chocolat store beside you (mine is 10 mins away) I look out for packs with 50% off as the sale by date is the current month.
All in all this is a great buy and would make a perfect gift.

I do like a hot chocolate on an evening and after much deliberation, because of price, took the plunge and bought one. I suppose it is a luxury purchase but in my view worth every penny. The unit itself is well made and feels a quality item when you handle it, but the main reason I like it so much is the quality of the hot chocolate. Don’t be fooled that this just makes regular hot chocolate that you can make in a pan, it doesn’t. The quality of the drink is second to none, it simply makes a hot chocolate at home that I have never been able to achieve. They call it a Velvetiser for a reason, it really is as smooth as velvet and tastes so luxurious. There is a great range of flavours, something for everyone and if like me you like hot chocolate you will not be disappointed. Just buy one and treat yourself.

I debated whether to treat myself to a Hotel Chocolat Velvetizer but I am so glad I did. It is a great bit of kit. It is ideal for an older person as it so simple to use, easy to clean and makes an indulgent, nourishing hot drink in a couple of minutes. As a bonus it actually comes with easy to follow instructions.

I bought this for my mum for Christmas as this was pretty much all she asked for. She thinks it’s the best thing since sliced bread. She said that it makes an incredible hot chocolate. I’ve yet to be offered one!
If you drink a lot of hot milk/ hot chocolate, this is a great device and looks smart on the kitchen work top. It is fairly expensive but my kids drink

I’ve see some reviews that say the chocolate is only warm but it is designed to make it to the perfect temperature to fully appreciate the the flavour.
Come with a mixed box of flavored chocolate mint,dark /Milk , chilli ect or use your favourite chocolate .

Love this makes yummy hot chocolate. Looks well on side in kitchen, easy to use & clean. They are pricey but do make lovely hot chocolate. You can use the hotel chocolate sachets or other products
Easy to use, delicious, nice little luxury. Makes one cup at a time. Tip, warm the mug with hot water while it’s blending so it’s nice and hot when you pour the hot choc. Will be trying out the cocktail suggestions with this velvetiser too!

My wife was delighted with the Velvetiser I bought her for Christmas and, likewise, my daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren who we spent Christmas with. It was great to receive the box of trial sachets, in addition to the two lovely mugs, that were included in the pack. The chile and the ginger offerings were considered to be quite strong (so be aware) but the others were very nice, including the mint flavoured chocolate.

This is a game changer. Very handsome piece of equipment that makes the best hot chocolates ever.

There is no doubting that this has some pretty basic functionality and really what makes the hot chocolate better than most is the quality of the Hotel Chocolat hot chocolate itself and the fact you create/use warm milk rather than water, which for some reason most people don’t. It does what it says it will though and for my wife, who this was a present for, it’s very easy to use and clean so it’s a winner.
Brought this for a Christmas present for my wife. She absolutely adores it. So easy to use, just add milk up to the white line inside, add chocolate to taste, seal the lid and press the button and relax. Does all the work for you, blends heats and smoothes the mix to a perfect velvet cup of hot chocolate. Easy to clean too, non stick coating inside, so just swill it out with water and then literally a quick effortless wipe around inside for two seconds with a kitchen towel or wipe and it’s clean and blemish free, really easy. Only downside is the chocolate to buy from hotel Chocolat is expensive 21 for 3 pouches with 7 cups max from each pouch. You can use cadburys or aero powdered chocolate, 3 average a tin, where you can get around 9-10 cups or so from this, but hotel Chocolat ones are nicer as made from pure chocolate flakes, but cadburys drinking chocolate tastes the next best it really is so nice. My wife is an NHS nurse and comes home stressed most days working through the pandemic, but she loves coming home to this and making herself a hot chocolate after a hard stressful shift. I love it too, when I can get to use it as my wife always is, so that’s a good thing as shows how nice the drinks are. You won’t be disappointed trust me, no hassle and blends it so well you get no bits at bottom of the nice porcelain mugs you get with it too.

It is an indulgent purchase, but so easy to use and clean. Yes you can make in a saucepan, but this is quick, efficient, no real washing up and tastes delicious too. What’s not to love, if you can justify the expense.

I bought this because of the reviews and although it’s a lot of money, found it makes a perfectly smooth hot chocolate. I have to limit due the the calories but my children adore it – crushing up twirls and flakes to make them too; a bit hit in our house.
Can’t compare to other versions as I haven’t tried them.
Only ‘negative’ for me is that the max measurement is still small for my mugs.

Very easy to use and the chocolate is blended well. It would be nice if it could be a little bit hotter and the sachets on sale in supermarkets. Having said all that, I’m very pleased to have it.
Personally, I only like the milky chocolate flakes and still have to add a sweetner to take off the bitterness.
Sometimes it doesn’t always melt all the chocolate flakes but it still tastes gorgeous.

I had used a Velvetiser for the first time whilst on holiday in a cottage. It was the smoothest hot chocolate I had ever tasted. When I returned home I bought one on Amazon. It is very straightforward to use and clean. With the first sachet, I switched it on for 4 minutes (2 whirls), it was then very frothy and hotter. It is a real treat! It is helpful to have the box of different flavours in order to ascertain which is your favourite, then you can purchase sachets or tubs of the best flavour for you.
The hot chocolate is amazing and does indeed taste like it’s been bought in a fancy coffee shop. Quick and easy to use and the cleaning takes just a short time. The pouches are a bit expensive but okay. The 1 annoying thing for something like this is there’s no audible noise when it’s finished, you have to watch for the light which is annoying if you’re making a chocco while watching TV
My wife bought this and I was against and we argued over it, but I regret it now. I’ve never had better chocolate milk than this. The smoothness and the temperature is perfect and all you have to do is add milk and your favorite chocolate and let it do it’s thing for a minute or two.
I also used almond milk with this, which I usually can’t stand and now I only use that with this thing.
