I use this for both guitar and mono line sources adapted to 1/4″. Works great for both. I don’t use the IK software so can’t comment on that. The interface itself is great though.

After being very disappointed with a cheaper guitar-to-USB cable and sending it back because of lots of hiss, I got this in order to connect my guitar to my laptop (running Guitar Rig and Amplitube with the ASIO4ALL driver). One nice thing, in a sense, is that you bring your own cable, so you know it’s decent quality. When the gain control was set to almost full volume, there was no hiss in the output sound. That’s all I needed – a hiss-free connection from guitar to laptop, and it’s very portable too and does not require a battery or power cable.

Garage Band on the iPad is great as it is for producing “electronic” music; drum machine, bass lines, string section etc. but I wanted to add some human input.
You can record through the built in microphone but for electric guitar in wanted something better and the iRig 2 is perfect. Just connect it to the headphone socket, plug guitar and headphones into their respective sockets and you’re away.
While it might not be good enough for professional studio quality recording, it’s certainly up to amateur use and demos.

Well worth the money. I have a Roland PD 5 drum kit, a little mixer, a go pro and my samsung s10 +

Everything through the mixer (backing tracks and PD5) via main mix out, into the Irig, which then goes into headphone jack of phone. Using irig recorder or if im making a music video- using native camera app which uses the Irig as sound source, can get decent quality results!

    Easy and simple

So I purchased the iRig2 to help with my practice but also when I am traveling. I use it with my POCO F3 and Deplike and it works – no latency. Sound is not spectacular but it is Okay – I am now thinking to buy all the options of Deplike and see if I can get something more from it. One of the issues that I have with it is that the volume level is not much and therefore it might require some kind of headphones amp to get more out of it.

On the whole I am very happy with this item, though I do have a couple of issues. Everything works fine on my Mac via Logic Pro but on IOS things are a little more spotty. Once it works it is all good, however to get to this a lot of replugging is required until it picks up. I do not know if this is an IOS issue, I have tried both iPhones and iPads, but is worth considering.

Convenient sized device that seem well built and designed. I use it mainly to play my guitar using head phones and it sounds pretty good. As mentioned many times in the reviews, the software is terrible and would require a lot of additional purchases to make it useful however free apps like tonebridge or amplix are compatible.

Really enjoying using the iRig to record guitars and bass onto iPad garageband. Plug and play really. Enables my demo recordings with zero hassle and quietly so I can record when the kids are in bed without having to turn the guitar amp on.

    Money well spent!

Does what it says , new to guitar but have GarageBand and headphones this prevents me driving everyone nuts by only needing my iPhone and some headphones (you’ll need to buy a lightning converter if that’s your phone input 9 from Apple and also normal jack headphones are needed as well) other than that it’s plug in and go

I needed something to reduce the volume on my mixer which runs to an iPad for live streaming interviews.

With perfectly mixed audio at unity gain, my iPad was clipping relentlessly. Turning down the master did fix it but it also upset the balance of the mixer so the quality was lost.

Whilst not marketed as being able to come between the mixer and an IOS device, it does the job perfectly and with zero added noise.

Its well worth it for the money (until the iRig Pre is back in stock).

Every guitarist should have this! I’ve been using it with GarageBand and it’s killing! I record and release original music and, as a home-recording artist, I have a need to practicality and the iRig definitely helps me with that! Apart from the occasional latency (which can be fixed by disconnecting and reconnecting it) this works great as a recording interface.

Golden Review Award: 19 From Our UsersI love my amp. I really do. But when you’re living in a terraced home with paper-thin walls, even what to me feels like playing quietly apparently resonates all the way to the far corner of the next floor of the house, let alone the neighbours’ living room on the other side of the wall from my own. I read a write-up about this product when I was, in a moment of pure desperation, looking to see if maybe, just maybe, it could possibly be safe to somehow plug headphones with a 1/4″ jack into an amp’s speaker outs (spoiler alert: it never is). But the iRig was mentioned, and it made me curious. I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect, and there’s really not as much material on the internet about it as I would have liked, but I thought I’d bite the bullet and order it anyway.

No regrets whatsoever. Yes, it took me the better part of an afternoon to get all the software and the audio driver set up on my PC to where they’re working perfectly, but the only reason it took so much effort is because I’m a certified moron. Once I got it working, it worked and continues to work perfectly. Guitar plugs into the iRig via a 1/4″ jack, iRig connects to the PC via USB (cable included in the box), a cheap pair of my speakers connect to the PC, but they’re only used as an interface for the much better headphones. And just like that, through the use of the AmpliTube software that’s included with the purchase, I can tweak the virtual set-up to my heart’s content and destroy my eardrums with the crunchiest overdrive at 2am, all while my family and neighbours sleep soundly. AmpliTube also works as a (VST) plug-in for DAWs, although after some fiddling around, my understanding is that it’s limited to 64-bit ones.

Caveat: I’m not a sound engineer, a record producer, or a professional musician, so my ear isn’t fine-tuned to every tiniest little imperfection. But I can say the following: if there’s any latency, I don’t notice it, and if the sound is supposed to be much worse than on a real amp, I’m not picking up on it. I bought this to be able to jam with headphones, and not only does it do facilitate that perfectly, but it does a whole lot of other things that I didn’t expect but will accept as a pleasant bonus.

his is a clever little gadget to stream live on social media. i have successfully telecasted the live with top clarity. loads of comments received for the sound output and I was absolutely thrilled. i was bit sceptical about this product as my trails were not good. i explored on youtube and watched several videos as the instructions included are pretty poor. my first trial had severe distortion, but a youtube video saved me. make sure you use stereo adaptors only. do not use mono as it may lead to poor sound quality. i have used various other equipment for live and so for the most cost-effective way is this tiny little gadget. lack of some led lights is a minus as there is no way you know if the unit is actually working or not.

I can practice electric guitar at full volume through headphones and its great quality. Its the software that makes it, as well as plug-in versatility. It plugs into the iPad and PC. I find the PC software to be much more comprehensive and with more sounds. Tip: Connect your headphone to the iRig and you will need to adjust the latency in the MIDI settings dialogue depending on the PC load at the time.

bought this to DJ on Facebook live and it works perfect and the sound quality is amazing. no more relying on phone speakers. the only issue for me was volume control is a bit awkward to use but not a major problem just set volume about halfway then leave it and then adjust volume from your controller and do not adjust the volume in irig2 whilst streaming live as you will get feedback. I learned that the hard way.

Utterly fantastic sound via the AmpliTube app and/or GarageBand with no crosstalk I can detect. I’d recommend it even if you only had GarageBand.
What you’re probably curious about is the AmpliTube software it comes with. What you get are the IK Multimedia stomp boxes and amps, which do a fine job. What you don’t get are the branded things and collections (think Fender, Orange, Hendrix, May, etc). You can still sound a lot like your hero, but it’ll take some research and experimentation…. or a few quid.

    Buy this.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersWanted something very small and easy to use for practice, and this is pretty close to being an ideal solution. No, it won’t give you studio quality of sound (what would you expect for <30?), as a pre-amp it's noisy and I'm sure the HD/digital one is much improved (~80) but this is great for professional and beginner alike as a practice tool. It's actually quite amazing to plug this into Garageband and within minutes be hitting those Gilmour bends with pleasantly surprising amp/pedal sounds. More or less plug in and play, no batteries - just guitar, cable and headphones; wish I'd had access to this kind of gear when I was practicing in my teens! Beats the hell out of lugging amps and pedals around. IK triumphant once again.

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersMost of the time when practicing at home with my Guitar I use this amazing piece of equipment, due to living with a number of other people, I often try to keep the noise down when playing, so I reverted to this. The IRig allows me to connect my guitar to my phone and practice both through headphones or through my amp, allowing the use of virtual pedals available in the Amplitube app. Have used this product for a while now and have able to do so much with it, such as trying out pedals virtually which I am interested in buying properly and much more. Perfect for practicing and learning as I was always worried about making too much noise, along with my habit of playing the same tune over and over and over again when learning, which I know can drive people insane.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIt’s a real pain connecting a guitar to a computer, it always has been. Buying expensive USB Midi interfaces with drivers that may or may not work with your operating system etc etc. But the iRig just works, plug and play as they say. Awesome, great for rehearsing in your office or a hotel room. Also has the added benefit of being able to use regular headphones with the iPhone 8
The amplitude free version contains all you really need if you want to practice, though any of the add on packages soon get expensive and probably aren’t useful unless you want to use this as part of a studio – which you can do as it has a computer interface. I use it for practice when I’m traveling and it’s perfect for that.

  65. LawrencMcGraw says:

I do really like this great tool for guitar players, which needs to be used alongside Amplitude. I like the addition of the ‘output to amp’ facility, but mostly use to for practicing with headphones. It would be 5 Stars except it (only very occasionally) drops the connection when I switch through several combinations of amps, but it usually resets when I disconnect and restart it.

Excellent little unit which works really well. I am indebted to the earlier reviewer with the tip about downloading the drivers for Windows operation. These aren’t mentioned in the user documentation – but are included in the FAQ’s on IK’s website.

I purchased this to use with the excellent Jam Origin MIDI Guitar 2 and it works really well. I thought I’d give Amplitude 4 a try so I downloaded it only to find that it couldn’t be installed on a 32-bit machine. However, I contacted IK’s customer support who gave me access to the earlier Amplitude 3 version which is 32-bit compatible. Their response was very quick and helpful. I was so impressed with this software I’ve just upgraded to a 64-bit PC so I can run the latest version.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersPurchased to replace an ageing Line 6 Gear Box Guitar Port GX that theoretically is not compatible with Windows 10 but has been working under Windows 10 for ages. The Line 6 Gear Box Guitar Port GX not being AISO compatible and having low audio output has started to become more of a nuisance to use lately and so I reluctantly started to look around again for a replacement. I settled on the iRig HD 2 after reading several reviews.

The iRig HD 2 arrived well packed and after reading the installation manual several times, not really necessary but I was looking for possible problems of which there were basically none for a normal installation, I installed the iRig HD 2 onto my Windows 10 PC. I had hoped that an analog audio lead would not be required but unfortunately for me it was. Also a download and installation of AISO4ALL is required, this is normal, so that sound from the iRig HD 2 can be played back through the normal PC speakers. iRig HD 2 comes with a licence and download facility for Amplitube 4, the software to use with your guitar/bass.

After much fiddling with the audio settings I eventually got the iRig HD 2 working with sound coming out of my PC speakers. Most people shouldn’t have an issue with this but I know from experience my equipment can be fussy. With Amplitube 4 running I was again able to play along to my backing tracks, the output from the iRig HD 2 being loud enough that the input to my audio on my PC could be set to LINE instead of MICROPHONE, meaning less background noise, in fact now I actually have to turn down the volume for my bass guitar so that I don’t overpower the backing tracks. Previously with the Line 6 Gear Box Guitar Port GX I had to turn down the volume for the backing tracks to be heard.

Be aware that Amplitube 4 comes with a basic set of simulations for amps, speaker cabinets, pedals, rooms & mics and these are not as limiting as you might think, more can be purchased if you require. Using the basic set I was able to get a reasonable sound for my bass guitar.

Overall I am very happy with the iRig HD 2 and consider it a worthy replacement for my Line 6 Gear Box Guitar Port GX so if you are looking for a way of connecting you guitar / bass to your PC I would recommend the iRig HD 2.

Golden Review Award: 43 From Our UsersAlthough this is advertised for use as a guitar interface, I bought this to use to stream DJ mixes through an iPhone (Facebook Live, YouTube etc) and it works excellently. Connect a 1/4″ cable from the booth output of your mixer (whichever is the ‘mono’ output), adjust the levels and you’re set. I note that other users have complained that using it in this fashion means that the audio will be mono instead of stereo, but your phone is only configured to accept a mono input anyway (you’ll be connecting this input to your phone’s headphone jack, i.e. usually an output for your phone). As long as you’re putting a good signal in and using a good mixer, the sound quality will be excellent and far better than just using the microphone of your phone.

Superb. Really impressive. No discernible latency and the jack means you can charge at the same time as playing. The software is a bit rubbish as you need to buy a lot of add one to get a decent sound but just pick up garage band and you’re all set. Very decent bit of kit and goes in the pocket of my guitar case. Tried with a fender p bass and an Ernie ball musicman and sound was very good for a pocket solution.

I bought this so that I could be let loose with BIAS amp (If you haven’t, check it out) it was so simple to set up and works perfectly with my iPad and iPhone, the feature to forward the signal chain to an amp is a well thought out feature.

Used with GarageBand, this is brilliant. Plug your headphones in and you can play as much as you want without disturbing too many people. Easier than plugging into amp and effects peddle. Great value for money.

An excellent little tool, worth pointing out that you need to plug in headphones or attach to an amp to hear the effects. Connected to Amplitude produces some great sounds at a low cost.

Plugged straight in to my Galaxy s6, I downloaded the Amplitude app the day before. Great blues tones on the clean amp. Really handy little bit of kit. This will save me from taking an Amp to my ship.

This is great, I use it with Ampkit. Makes a massive difference when you can get on with some practice with all the kit you can emulate with this.

Quite an improvement on the original iRig interface. It allows you to use its output directly into your guitar amp which the old one wouldn’
