So far I am impressed. I had it just over a week and it has performed as expected. This is the 3rd docking station I’ve owned. The first one didn’t work. The second one worked 99% of the time and ran hot. This one, really, only time will tell but it does not run hot. It’s slightly warmer than room temperature. It’s never run hotter than that.
Everything on it just works. I have 2 monitors connected to it. My mouse and keyboard are wired and they work fine. It looks nice (I got the blue one).
Hopefully I’ll feel the same about in a year or 2 or more.
Update: the docking station came with an adapter from USB to USB-C. My laptop has both types of ports, however my work laptop only has USB-C. So I had the adapter on the end of the USB cable that connects the computer to the docking station. The adapter to USB-C always seemed cheap but it worked until today. But it was my fault. I moved my laptop and in doing so the adapter pulled apart. Part of it was left in my work laptop and I had to pull it out.
So just a warning if you plan on using that adapter be careful not to move your laptop beyond the length of the cable.
Fantastic! Exactly what I wanted, two hdmi ports (plus a dp port…. Which I don’t need) and through power which powers my hp laptop via the USB C port.
Build quality is awesome, reassuringly weighty and sleek finish.
Finally, just a single cable into my laptop and a clear desk.
I was very nervous about getting another product that is just okay or doesn’t work right, or, even, at all. I researched for weeks, trying to understand all of the technology that could make my selection of a hub altogether wrong for my new computer.
This turned out to be a great find. It’s relatively inexpensive as hubs go, truly “universal”, easy to understand and set up (about ten minutes!) and has worked like a champ for weeks of heavy usage without a hitch. It’s quite small (hence, portable), sturdy, stays in place and looks attractive. Speed is good and it doesn’t heat up–I had over 2TB of backup files that took a long time to upload! It’s got six USB ports (two 3.0 and four 2.0) and all the other connectors one could hope for. I had never heard of WAVELINK, but they sure do put out a good product. I’m sold!
Function was as expected and works great at my workstation but best if all was the color. Tired of boring black and gray.
Good to use , would have loved to have more usb points
This is priced at a huge discount vs brand-name OEMs yet delivers the same functionality & performance. I’m able to connect my external monitor via HDMI, 3.5mm audio, and a whole bunch of USB devices. A must-have for WFH setups. Instead of having to plug/unplug multiple wires from my work laptop to personal desktop and vice-versa, I can now simply so do via one USB cable thanks to this USB docking station.
2020 MacBook Air M1 Chip compatible. I love having 2 large screens and my MacBook all hooked up together. I can even close my MacBook and just use my 2 large screens for work! 10/10 would recommend.
Note: Must Download DiplayLink and allow it to share screen on MacBook in order for the 2 large monitor to work.
Solid little device didn’t even need to install the driver or maybe I had them I didn’t check. it worked right out the box I am using this to extend my laptop to 2 monitors using a hdmi cable haven’t used it for the other things it can do.
I have a great setup for my work from home desk – two displays, and my work laptop has its own docking station. I have a docking station for my personal laptop because I like to use the dual displays for homework, photography editing, etc. I had a docking station I’d been using for years, and the USB ports started to die (mouse would stop moving, which was VERY frustrating). I bought this docking station, it was delivered the next day, and I LOVE it. It’s a great color (I got the turquoise), and it works so well. High-speed connection. I love it – great value for the cost!
It was perfect for adding 2 monitors with my Windows Surface laptop I use for work. I did not need any additional
cables or accessories to make this work. Its been a couple months of trying to find the perfect fit and the quality is very good and I love the color!
Nice colorful and compact. Gives you a lot of extra USB ports.
Excellent, easy to use and setup. Tried another brand and Wavlink is so much better hands down. I was so surprise when I noticed you just need to plug everything in and thats it, with the exception of setting up the screen displays which is standard for any dual screen setup. Absolutely love it.
has lots of usb slot and plugged in two monitors in hdmi and dvi! love i
Making everything work together was important to me. I don’t need a lot of speed or power, so I was able to plug in an HD monitor, 500-Gb external drive and keyboard, and quickly and easily turn my laptop into a desktop for my home office. I can unplug everything simply by unplugging the station from my laptop and be on the move in no time. May not be able to handle more robust needs, but for me it works great.
Had bought a cheaper docking station last year and it kept flickering. After reading reviews, tried this. It has been Excellent. No issues whatsoever. Using with a Surface Pro 3, corded keyboard, Bluetooth mouse, aux input speakers, 2 printers, and an additional daisy chained USB hub. All working great after 2 months. Work & Master’s program from home must.
I am setting this up for my home office with three computers sharing two monitors, a keyboard and a mouse. Dual monitors work just fine. It supports two monitors with different resolutions. One is 1920 x 1080, the other is 1680 x 1050. What these manufacturers don’t often tell you is that these DisplayLink docks can be used with USB switches. I am using this dock with the IOGEAR 4×4 USB 2.0 Peripheral Sharing Switch (Yes, it says USB2.0 switch, but it can still support USB 3.0 transfer speeds), and now I can switch input between up to 4 computers. It is the cleanest KVM setup I ever used.
You don’t need the driver disk. Windows 10 will recognize the device automatically. For Windows 7, you should download the latest DisplayLink driver online. The image quality is good, can’t really tell any difference from graphics card output.
Cons:
The USB cable they provided is short.
The power adapter cable they provided is really short.
There are some display lag in windows 7, could be some driver issues. For Windows 10 they work fine.
All displaylink docks are overpriced
This dock works well enough for me. I do wish it came with 2x HDMI outputs instead of the DVI + HDMI output as I couldn’t get the DVI output working with either of my laptops. I have a Dell Precision 5510 running Linux Mint 19 and my work laptop is a System76 Oryx running Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.
This dock plugs into a USB 3.0 port on both of them. Ethernet, HDMI and all my USB stuff works fine on both laptops. I just wish they could charge through the USB port so I wouldn’t have to keep the 2 power adapters available. Also, since I couldn’t get the DVI port to work through a DVI to HDMI adapter into my HDMI monitor, I just plug the 2nd external monitor into the HDMI port on both laptops.
I’m very happy with this dock for the price point. Yes, it still sucks to have to plug in 3 cables (power, USB, HDMI) when I dock either laptop, but this was the best bang for the buck laptop dock that was compatible across multiple laptop manufacturers.
Small and lite weight. this works well with my Surface pro to connect 2 displays
Super easy to set up. The driver download was a bit confusing, as there is like 8 options for windows. Found one, installed it,. and it works great.
awesome little docking station, super easy to set up, did not have to install included drivers !
I do a lot of audio mixing which requires 2 monitors and many USB outlets. My laptop only has 3, which only 1 has USB 3.0. This product has allowed me to work from my laptop instead of my desktop because of all the additional ports with the added benefit of faster data transfers (USB 3.0). It is powerful!
I was able to connect my surface pro, two HP 23 inch monitors, wireless keyboard and mouse and charge my phone or my headset all at the same time. Totally worth the money and does a great job so far.
Great for my home office. Compatible with my work laptop enabling me to use a monitor keyboard and mouse and not having multiple connections. Super convenient for when I want to work from home.
I can’t compare to any other similar product but I love it. I come with one of my computers, I just need to plug it to the USB and it’s good to go…. Mac, Pc no pb.
I got this because I needed a universal dock that could handle both my Macbook Pro (2012) and my Dell Laptop. I have two monitors set up to do an extended desktop with a vertical stand for both computers. I got this dock because it was affordable and had a number of USB ports so I don’t have to detach a bunch of stuff if I need to use my Dell instead of Mac. I don’t use these for work, but sometimes I just need the PC for things my Mac has trouble doing.
The Good:
With both laptops it works, once I got all the settings correct when I plug in the dock it remembers my settings. I only have to change where the USB 3.0 cable is connected. The displays look great and I have no problem making the resolution is set correctly. This does exactly what I need it to with especially since I can store the laptops and the displays stay on (with some adjustments in the settings of my Dell at least). If you have a PC, you may have to set the “when the laptop is closed” setting to “do nothing” that way the computer doesn’t go to sleep if you want to be able to close it while plugged into the dock.
The Mildly Inconvenient:
I you are a Mac User this pertains to you. Yes, the most recent update of High Sierra (which is what I’m running), the software for display link and the communication of the USB 3.0 interface with the dock gets messed up. Some people lost connectivity, and others experience a lot of flickering. Display link has been working on trying to fix this; they currently released a driver that allows you to use Airplay to connect to a display plugged into the dock (as a clone or separate display if you use the built in as one). I have a 2012 mac so I’m running a thunderbolt/mini-display port to HDMI adapter, you may have the USB C and possibly more options (adapters) than I do for fixes. Here’s my solution for running an extended desktop display for a Mac with the ability to switch to a separate computer without having to plug and unplug stuff (except the USB 3 cable). Just note it usually takes me one extra try for Airplay to connect as a separate display, once it does it remembers the settings, if your resolution is not displayed under “scaled” options. You can click “scaled” while holding the “option” button to see more settings.
I got this HDMI Switch – https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BFVN6GY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s03?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and a set of HDMI Cables (amazon basic).
I want to be able to more easily switch between the PC and Macbook so I plugged the display link to one input on the switch and my thunderbolt adapter + HDMI to the second input. Then the output goes straight to my main monitor (the 27″ in the image). Since you can only connect one display when plugged into the Display link I use the airplay fix (in the new driver) and set it to a separate display. What happens is the mini-display –>HDMI is one display, and the display link dock via usb 3.0 is the second. If I need to switch to the PC I can just change the input on the switch and move the usb 3.0 connection to my pc and then both displays are running from the dock.
This works for me, as you can see there are a lot of cables, but not everyone has the same amount of stuff plugged in as I do. If you don’t have a second computer you don’t even need a switch, just a second cable that runs from your mac to the monitor.
An additional fix (if you’ve made it this far down) is revert back to snapshot of 10.13.3 for Mac OS. This is much more easily done if you use a time machine backup. I couldn’t do this because I use the dock as a connection to my external hard drive that I needed to backup before I reformatted it to use as a time machine backup.
Either way, unless you want to spend $200 on a thunderbolt dock or other dock that does not run display link (almost all the universal ones do, I’ve checked) with a small adjustment by adding an extra cable or adapting my solution you can hold out until Display Link can update the driver to work with 10.13.4 and above.
Very convenient and easy to use. Just plug and play. I got it on a one day sale, very good for the price
Pros: Small form factor with a metric ton of ports. Easy to setup, Works extremely well.
Cons: IP not translating as a trusted network over built-in port, Doesn’t allow me to leave the lid of my laptop closed during boot due to preboot security software.
Admittedly both of the cons may be specific issues for my setup, which is why I’m still making sure to give this 4 stars. The IP issue seems more generic and a possible annoyance to anyone using a Windows OS (I haven’t tested it with anything else) and I eventually decided to forego the network port entirely and just plug in my laptop directly. The second con is one that is only going to bug very specific users. My laptop comes with pre-boot security encryption software (Because: work) and since the dual monitor configuration doesn’t kick-in until OS boot, I have to crack the laptop open to enter my security code, then let it get to Windows, and then I can close things up and go to my regular setup. Again, this is very specific, and I’m absolutely nit-picking on what is otherwise a very solid and handy piece of tech. Mine is attached to a back wall with some industrial strength Velcro and is nicely out of the way, and provides a much smaller footprint then than the laptop specific dock. Highly recommended.
This product is very easy to use (plug and play as described). Windows computers is easier than mac as mac requires one extra step that I found. I had to go to the security and privacy section on the mac and click allow under the general tab to make this work for the mac. Other than that, it is very easy. There is little lag and I find using the dual monitors easy. Word to the wise that this product comes with a 3.0 cable as well as a DVI to VGA adapter. I would defintely recommend this for someone that is low on port space on there computer. I literally only use one USB port on the actual mac and plug everything else into the dock. Good Product!
