Was shocked at first when i saw the huge instructions book and thought to myself ive got my work cut out on this one. However, this took around 24hrs split between 3 days to complete and can say it was worth it and had a blast seeing it slowly becoming the final product.
I thought my Lego days were way in the past. My son got me a Mustang set for my birthday last year and it took me about 6 months to get round to making it. As soon as the last brick went on that I started seeking out the next “project”.
I did see this in the Lego shop in Bluewater Shopping Center and was a bit awestruck then, so this was the one I went for, and I certainly haven’t been disappointed.
It probably took me about 28-30 hours in total to build. The manual is clear and easy to follow, as you’d expect from Lego. The attention to little details is astounding; like the engine bay, the seat that pops out the side, the little remote control vehicle that roll out the trapdoor underneath. It really was a stress free and pleasurable activity.
Apart from all that, I’ve ended up with an impressive display piece that I proudly show off and visitors politely nod and acknowledge!!
My only annoyance is that Amazon emailed me about a fortnight after I bought it to say it had gone down 30 (why do you do that Amazon!!! Every…..goddam…..time!!!!), oh, and that I now have an expensive Lego addiction to feed.
I’ve also recently installed the lighting set, but I’ll review that separately.
It’s a big build but the key is take your time you will enjoy it more

Bought it for an 11 year old loved building this. Must admit had his moments and when one thing went wrong so did lots of others but roughly took 14 hrs for him to complete this very much worth its price, came before given date in a rather battered box.

OK so I was unsure about ordering the “pack sustainable” version so I held off.
As soon as the “standard packaging” dropped in price I took a chance on buying two of them (145 each) expecting to send atleast one of them back due to damaged boxes (seems very common on here) but NO!! both turned up next day in pristine condition AND they both came in there original shipping boxes (case fresh)! This is amazing for a collector. How it should be all the time!
So my understanding on standard packaging is they come in shipping boxes and sustainable packaging is without.
Overall 10/10 for delivery and condition of both boxes.

Lego seem to have learned very well that one of their biggest markets is the 40 somethings with a strong sense of nostalgia and deep pockets.
I have bought many nostalgia pieces over the years and as soon as I saw this kit I just had to have it. I don’t have a bad thing to say about it, there are plenty of pieces and the detail is incredible. The instruction book is clear and easy to follow you’ll have hours of fun assembling this one

Outstanding detail inside and out. My husband was delighted to get this for his birthday and couldn’t wait to start building. Bought lights separately for this and it makes it look even more impressive
If you love Ghostbusters and Lego then you’ll love this set.
The instructions are clear and easy to follow. The finished result is pretty darn good if I am honest. You can build it in a day. But, I took the Easter weekend to do it at around 3 hrs a day.
I would highly recommend buying this Lego set. At 144.99 at the time I bought it that was a bargain.
It was a present for a 25 year old. He loves it. If you are buying for a child then there is a smaller one that comes with the play figures which is more of a toy
A Christmas gift for my wife, she’s Lego mad! I tried so hard to keep it secret but she guessed and I’m rubbish at lying.
Took her a few days to do, thank goodness, and she absolutely loves it. Good value gift but I do wish they were a little cheaper so that I could treat my 12yr grandson to one too
This is a really good set and thoroughly enjoyed building this. Detailed instructions as always with Lego and once finished looked amazing, filled with lots of moving parts and extra details.
Kept him quite whilst it was constructed. It’s pretty big so I don’t know where it’s going to go. But super fun. Not sure for kids due to the complexity & I’m not sure they’ll have seen ghostbusters.

What an amazing Lego set this. From stage 1 to 12 I loved every minute of this build, it is so relaxing and therapeutic. And the end result is stunning; a great display piece to have in the home.
From the trap door, to the fan belt, to the working steering, nothing is missed in the attention to detail. Took my husband a week to put together and he was gutted that it was finished he enjoyed it so much.

Got this for my 13 year old following the new film, as always the instructions were well layed out and after 14 hours over 7 days it was completed and looks outstanding.
Released ahead of the new Ghostbusters film, an easy assemble with some great attention to detail, like the chair that pops out of the side of the car and the deployment of the automated rover. Would be even better with some sound effects and lighting package that came from source. Would recommend if you grew up watching this film in the early ’80’s so very nostalgic, plus a whole new generation that will find this iconic model rewarding with the new film.
Brilliant kit, great value for money. Really enjoyed building this it took just around 20 hours!

I worked up to doing this one by building Dom’s charger from fast and furious first as I hadn’t done any of these big sets before.
It was fun.
Added a picture with the Lego ecto-1 and the pop vinyl ecto-1 for size reference.

One of the more fun Lego kits, though not necessarily on everyone’s wish-list. Sturdy, lots of moving parts. Took my Lego enthusiast son about 2.5 days (with breaks). He loved assembling and has been playing with it since. Money well spent.
I have only just received this in the post. On first inspection (well, no inspection needed) the box is damaged and has been resealed with tape…further damaging it. I wouldn’t mind if the seller said it was used. But they make you believe it is brand new. For lego collectors , this is unacceptable.
Hopefully this is the only problem and there are no missing or broken bits.
Fantastic build. From start to finish this lego build keeps you interested. The attention to detail is brilliant. From lifting the bonnet to reveal the chevy engine to the fully functional roof. Whilst building you don’t notice building the moveable functions like the retractable door, the drop down ramp for the rc car and the rotating radars. Once finished you finally see how it all works. This model is a work of art. I left the rust stickers off and it looks pristine. Highly recommended for any fan of the movie franchise.

If your looking for a challenging build – this is up there with the best of them.
I’d be less inclined to say it’s worth full price – however Ecto was bought as a present, and it’s made her very happy.
The instruction manual is something else – it’s not far off being a paperback in it’s own right.
Delivered in good condition, all pieces present and in the sealed bags – cannot fault the seller.

Purchased this Lego set for myself as I’m a huge fan of the Ghostbusters franchise.
I loved building every aspect of ECTO-1, and the instructions were incredibly easy to follow.

Measuring an impressive 47cm long, 16cm wide and 22.5cm high, she makes a nice display piece upon completion.
A must have set for any Ghostbusters fan or AFOL!

This is a big Lego model for any ghostbuster fan – great build and size that is perfect for a teenager or adult.
Goes well with other movie ‘cars’ such as Bond, Batmobile to name a few.
No bad things to say about it. It’s amaizing, it took more that 12 hours to assemble, but considering the size I was completely expecting it.
Whether you’re into Lego or Ghostbusters then this is THE one to build — best leave off the rust stickers as it looks better. Can even swap the ladder to the right side (stops the door opening) to convert it to the original ECTO-1.
A joy to build but realise that the parts with a star on them are the gunmetal colour representing chrome rather than clear parts.

Great purchase for my husband. He loved building it and some of the detail is really good. The value on Amazon was brilliant too!
Other than that, my dad is over the moon and can’t wait to start building it and have it displayed.
But where are the figures? This thing has a cool mechanism where a seat flips and spins out… without a Ghostbuster, or a ghost for that matter… which kind of kills the effect!
I’m well aware that Lego minifigures will be well out of scale but if Lego can build a life sized Bugatti, surely a couple of correct scaled Ghostbusters shouldn’t present too much of a challenge.
Luckily the Playmobil Ghostbusters are almost the right size 😐
Missing busters aside, this is an excellent model and well worth the purchase.

Nothing to dislike bit tricky in places but not too difficult. Satisfying build worth the trouble.
As with all Lego sets, I tend to be blown away at the detail that is involved in all big (and small) builds. This set is no exception!
Coming in at over 2,000 pieces and 20″ long – this build is a bit of a beast. As with some of the larger vehicular Lego builds it incorporates techniques from ‘traditional Lego building’ and also the ‘Lego technic’ style of building – but this just means that you have a functioning Lego car ie, if you turn the steering wheel the wheels will move! As this set can be a bit tricksy to get inside when it’s completed, there is a small knob on the top that will also move the steering wheel and the wheels.
Most fans of Ghostbusters will want this to recreate the original Ecto-1. This set however is from the new film – Ghostbusters: Afterlife (which due to Covid hasn’t been released yet). I was initially put off from purchasing this item due to the rust spots that covered the car – BUT – these are stickers and do not have to be placed on the car!! Normally I hate stickers in a Lego set, but I’m so glad that they are and I’ve chosen not to add them!
There are a few slight differences from the original Ecto-1, the main being the addition of a ‘gunner seat’ as seen in the trailer for this movie, which has pushed the ladder for roof access over to the other side, but with a little bit of forward thinking, this could easily be placed at its original location.
The newly installed Gunner seat is a cool little play feature, and it involves some really interesting build techniques – however I was stumped a few times as it wouldn’t work properly for while, turns out that I’d forgotten to put a vital piece in that would keep the mechanism from riding up. And after that was rectified, it works absolutely fine now!
The little details in this set are fantastic and any ghostbusters fan would love to have this in their collection.
One of the only downsides is that there are no mini figs included with this set, however I’m guessing like most people who are looking at this set – you may already have the smaller, original Ecto-1 which included the mini figs of the four main characters from the first 2 films.
There are also ALOT of stickers – my main bugbear on Lego sets, especially the higher priced ones – I don’t understand why they couldn’t be printed bricks, but I suppose this would push the price up. The good thing with this set having a lot of stickers, as I said before is that means you don’t have to have a rusty Ecto-1, which very nearly put me off! Although, the main ghostbusters logo is printed on the larger bricks which was a nice surprise!
Overall a mightily impressive build, with lots and lots of detail inside the car itself, along with some nice play features and very detailed sections including the very impressive front grille! It can be modified to be a replica of the original Ecto-1 from the outside, or you can choose to have a sort of hybrid look without the stickers, or the full Ghostbuster: Afterlife version, rust and all!!
Also – as of writing this set is 10 cheaper on Amazon than anywhere else (RRP 179.99)
