This is a great product and my two year old absolutely loves it. We leave it on the lowest setting all night so he can have a night light.
My granddaughter loves this night light. She is now 3 years old and still gives it a kiss when she goes to bed.
I bought it for her for her first birthday.
Excellent choice.
Don’t normally leave reviews but had to for this one. Just purchased as we have a newborn. We’ve tried red lights in the past with our other children but this one is far superior. To wake up, be able to see but not actually be disturbed from the sleepy state is just a huge game changer. It shortened the length of time I was awake for whilst achieving the goal of being able to see. It also didn’t disturb other family members. An excellent investment.
Love this light and want a second for my newborn when he’s older. The timer which slowly fades is perfect for reading a story to and then finishing as the light wanes
I bought this for a friend’s baby who loved it. They also said baby slept bette
Bought one for my son’s bedroom but also for myself as red light is great to have on before going to bed.
We bought one that had been returned to Amazon. The only thing “wrong” with it was the packaging had been taped closed. Inside, everything was fine and working. So we paid 35 for this instead of +50 which I think is worth it. Our son loves it, carries it around the house. Nice orange glow during night time.
I bought this for my daughter as she started being scared of the dark and kept wanting the landing light on at night time, this has got to be the best purchase I have made. She has slept though every night and not scared anymore goes from very dim to lighting the whole room up. Absolutely Brilliant. Highly recommended.
Love this product so much, we’ve bought another for baby no. 2! Yes, it’s expensive – but our first has been on every single night for 2.5 years and shows no signs of dimming! I love that you can set it to dim slowly from white to a soft orange automatically, or set it yourself, and that the white light can go really bright, simulating daylight. If an improvement could be made, I’d like there to be an option to set a timer for the bright white light to slowly come on in the morning, like the ‘grown-up’ models have. I feel that this isn’t a lot to ask for, since the cost of the actual product is quite high.
We bought this following recommendations, and fair to say we all love Lumie.
Used every night to read a bed time story, and then drift off to sleep on sunset mode which gently fades to darkness. There is also a night light feature we don’t normally use, which I could see being good to have in future.
Should also say Lumie is surprisingly robust!
Lovely light, bright enough to light room, has a lovely warm tone. Sunset function works for encouraging sleep. Very happy
Call it a coincidence but my 3 year old sleeps better at night since we got this light. He stopped coming into our room and wakes up a lot less at night. I also like the sunset setting when putting him to sleep. The only negative I would say is the material it’s made of – gets dusty and not very easy to clean. Otherwise great buy!
A bit expensive just for a night light but I love that it has so many different levels of brightness to choose from so I can gradually reduce the brightness instead of being disturbed by bright light when I’m trying to sleep. When I need to change my baby I can choose a brightness that suits me, and the warm light stops my baby from confusing night from day and me from waking up fully. So I actually think it’s worth the price to have the different options rather than just on/off
My four year old was having nightmares last week. I seen the reviews on this nightlight and everyone recommended it, i can see why. Set up the light that night, and i told him this will help him, he fell straight to sleep and didnt get up once throughout the night and no more nightmares. The price at first did put me off but I’m so glad i bought it. You can use it as a normal light which is really bright and a nightlight and imitates a sunrise. Highly recommend
Quite expensive but after trying a few nightlights that were cheap I have to say this is the best one and won’t be swapping again son loves it too very bright on normal light mode just like a lamp and the nightlight is dark enough for me and the fella to sleep while still being able to check on the little one
This is great to provide a nice gentle light in baby’s room. Plenty bright enough for nappy changes, but very gentle light. The nightlight function is great. Love have loved if it was wireless rather than needing to be plugged in all the time, but very happy with it.
This is a great product, should have bought it earlier. It makes my 19 month old sleepy but now he understands the light is dimming and gets annoyed and wants to get out of bed to switch it back on so there is a bit of back and forth but it definitely helped his sleep
Absolutely love this lamp I use it myself & for my avian birds to go sleep with so lights go down gently
It would be even better if it had a 15 minute brighten up button as well as the sunset setting
Brilliant lamp
Light enough for a nappy change and to check on baby but doesn’t disturb my sleep, controls are a bit fiddle though.
Lumie, as this cute little bug is known to us, has been a invaluable aide in getting my toddler to feel sleepy. The absence of blue light is great. You can easily read by it when it is in white light mode or the first stages or orange, then it gradually fades through orange to a gentle red glow, either by manually pressing the + and – buttons, or by pressing sunset and watching it gradually fade over 15 minutes. I’ve observed that if you start from a reduced light setting it will take less than 15 minutes, depending how far you have dimmed it. There is a little leaf that you can switch to change the minimum light setting (where it stops after using the sunset function). I tend to keep this in the off position though and set the light manually for the night, as you can actually get a slightly lower level of light (in comparison to the first night light setting) that way, and I don’t sleep if it’s too bright. My two year old knows how to control this now and we take him with us on holiday to keep the ambiance of home at bedtime. I room in with my toddler, and if she wakes in the night and I need to change a nappy or something I can just turn the light up a notch or two without disturbing our brains’ sleep cycles, then dim it back down and return to sleep. As she’s a frequent waker, this is really important. I would also recommend it for use with a newborn. So versatile and quite compact, and looks friendly, not scary! Best thing I have bought since I had a baby.
Great light with a wide spectrum of sunset colours perfect for bed time and as a night ligh
My daughter (2) loves her lumie. She doesn’t like being alone, but lumie is a friendly face in her room. She can operate it herself, which she loves to do when story time is over and it’s now sleep time, and it gives out a red light which is much easier to sleep with than blue or white nightlights. Expensive, but definitely worth it, lumie will be around for a while yet in our house I think!
This lamp is everything I hoped it would be! My 15 month old frequently goes to sleep during the sunset mode. It’s really easy to operate too. Love it!
Love this product. Nice light for reading stories and then you can switch to a red light for sleep. Very attractive for children.
Amazing light. I use this on the lowest setting for nighttime feeds of my little one. It’s great and doesn’t interrupt any of our sleep because of the gentle red light. Although expensive I’m really glad we spent the extra money.
Great little light, got for my 5 year old daughter as she doesn’t like the dark and other lights we’ve had were either too bright or not bright enough. A little pricey but worth it considering how many lamps/night lights we’ve brought previously. It’s bright enough to read by on the highest setting and I’m planning to gradually reduce the brightness so she will get used to a lower level. Very easy to operate simple and strait forward. She did say it looks a bit babyish but it’s cute and unobtrusive, so I hope this is the last night light I ever buy!
I love this little bug. Makes for a really great night light and looks tip top in a child’s bedroom. We leave it on the red nightlight which gives the room a nice glow.

Brilliant just brilliant my daughter is happy so I am happy
My son loves his new little light. The only likely I could find that you can read by and doesn’t produce blue light which wakes you up. Love how you can adjust the brightness daily. Nice orange/ red light. A little complicated to use but you can work it ou
I bought this as a gift for someone that has just had a baby and they absolutely love it! perfect for those night feeds!
I brought this for my grandson as he was having trouble settling down to sleep and then waking up during the night. My daughter says that it is very good as he is settling down quickly and is not so disturbed when waking during the night as it is not a bright light.
Bought as a nightlight for nursery after reading about effect of white nightlights on little ones sleep. V impressed so far – love the sunset feature where white light dims to orange nightlight over 15 minutes and then remains on or switches off. Nightlight can be set to brighter or dimmer setting. My only gripes would be the price and even on the dimmest nightlight setting it is still quite bright – resolved by setting it on the floor.
Love this light, wish we had had it from day 1. The night light is perfect for night feeds/dealing with wake ups, is light enough to see without waking you up or making you squint. The actual light is lovely and bright and I love how you can set it to gradually go to off or nightlight.
Our little mans sleep isn’t great so it’s hard to say if it has improved his sleep but he has been sleeping a little better recently with less early evening wake ups since using the bed bug for bedtime routine. Well worth the money.
My grandson would not sleep without the big light on and if he woke and it was off he got scared. Now he just uses this and loves it 🙂
Like many other children my daughter has trouble going to sleep some nights. She doesn’t like the dark. So this Lumie Bedbug bedtime nightlight was just what she needed. It starts with a sunset design and gradually fades to nightlight mode. This soothing light helps make her feel safe and happy if she wakes up during the night. The design is nice and smooth with no sharp edges. In fact the only thing that lets it down is the rather short cable. All in all I am impressed with this bedtime light.
I have been really pleased with this nightlight, it has helped so much with bedtimes and night wake ups. My 17 month old understands the cue of the dimming light and will happily lay down to go to sleep as it starts dimming. It definitely relaxes her and helps her understand it’s bedtime. Definitely helped us a lot.
We have used a lumie at home for several years so we are what you might call converts to the concept of natural waking and following natural circadian rhythms.
There are many studies showing sleep disturbance, not enough sleep and waking and sleeping at the wrong time can have huge health implications including heart disease and increasing blood pressure to name but a few.
The idea is being woken gradually and naturally as if by a “sunrise” and going to sleep the same way means you are more rested and your brain adjusts to daytime better.
We feel better using this method so we’re excited to see that there is the dual purpose design for kids. Good to start this process early before getting into bad habits!
It’s good to help with sleep training I think once your little one is at least 18 months old especially for the gentle waking up aspect.
You also have the option to use it as a nightlight and the unit itself is designed to be both cute and tactile – a friendly bedroom bug to help you sleep.
It’s really simple to set and use. Well designed and should last ages, our other lumie still going strong after 5 years!
The sunset feature of this is really good where it starts off bright white then over a few minutes (long enough to read a book) it changes to red and stays red through the night. Not immedialtly obious what the “leaf” is for so you do need to read the manual.
This little bug oozes cuteness straight out of the box. It not only has a sweet, loveable design, but it’s made from very soft-touch, rubberised material, which feels both pleasant to the touch and very safe / secure for children to use. It’s also feels like a very solid, durable build, particularly reassuring if it will be used with little ones. It’s slightly smaller than I expected, but this gives it a nice small footprint on the bedside table, and at its brightest, it illuminates impressively given its size (enough to read by in bed, for example).
It’s pretty simple to operate, with just four buttons on the front. One switches it on / off at once (although it’s not sudden, but rather fades quickly in / out – a much more subtle and calming effect than simply switching a light on or off). Two either side of that adjust the brightness. These can also be used to switch the unit on by stages – press the + button once, and it will light up in its low-light red, which (hopefully) shouldn’t disturb anyone sleeping next to it.
The last button puts the light into ‘sunset mode’, gradually dimming the light over time until it is switched off – perfect for drifting off to sleep gradually. This lasts for 15 minutes – slow enough that you barely notice the dimming.
The mixed LED array means that the light doesn’t simply dim from bright white to darkness. Instead, the white light morphs into a beautiful pink / red hue as darkness approaches. It does feel very natural, and spreads a warm glow around the room as it slowly dims to nothing.
All in all, a lovely, natural and warm bedside light, which is also adorably cute. A quality, well-designed product from Lumie.
This is currently being used for a 18 month old, so it will hopefully have a good few years life as I reckon the design will be OK enough for up to about a six or seven year old. There isn’t much to add to all the other reviews – we’re very happy with it’s core functionality is is and does as advertised. The one thing that others haven’t mentioned is that it is an OK size, and easy enough, to pack up and take on your travels. Having something familiar from the home bedroom routine is a bonus when you’re in unfamiliar places. No problem recommending this.
This little bedtime light is excellent quality….and it allows for healthy bedtime habits for small people to be nurtured.
Having used lumie for many years as our alarm clock and sunlight wake up go to….we swear by them. Being a sufferer of SAD they also compliment a condition which makes getting out of bed a chore and this beauty makes it that bit easier.
So for a beautiful little princess this seemed a life saver, getting a small person used to going to bed…making her feel safe and happy if she wakes during the night….doesn’t affect her melatonin levels adversely, and looks amazing in all its glory.
It’s been a welcome addition to her bedroom.
No sharp edges and nothing to burn fingers on it makes bedtime a treat….ours is called Bertie Bug lol.
Not cheap I agree but if this last half as long as my Lumie and my other kids Lumie she will be taking it with her to University.
Do I recommend….yes.
A nice subtle light for little ones who get nervous about the dark. Friendly face on the front. Ideal.
EDIT – I’ve increased my rating to 5 stars because the manufacturer has addressed both of my points. Basically, the lightbulb will last 40 years so replacing it is not an issue. And this model has a 15 minute sunset because it’s for children but there are other models with longer sunsets.
Original review is below:
It’s a good light as far as functionality and design go. The sunset function is great although I’d prefer if the duration was programmable up to at least 45 minuted rather than a fixed time of 15 minutes.
What lets this down for me is that the bulbs are not replaceable. Once the bulb goes, you have to throw the unit away. Not good for the environment and not good for my funds. So I couldn’t recommend this product and would try looking elsewhere for the sunset functionality.
This is such a great idea, we all love this lamp – it’s cute and friendly for children’s or babies bedtime and gives off a calming, warming light rather than a bright green or blue light which is what we were previously using.
The bug design is friendly and good for girls or boys but my 6 year old thinks it’s a tad babyish for their ‘Big Boys Room’ bit even they agree the light is really nice and we tend to use the sunset mode which starts off brighter and then gradually fades down to off. I’d actually like a version of this for my room – I really like the orange and red light settings – you can alter it completely to suit the individual and not many night lights are 100% customisable but this is – which makes it special!
Very much recommended – it’s so hood for sending them off to sleep in a claiming and natural way.
This nightlight looks much cuter than the name would suggest. Personally I cannot fall in love with anything called a “bedbug”.
It is more expensive than other nightlights you might look at but the features pretty much make the price worthwhile.
The light can be used as a fade to nightlight or fade to completely off without any fake or harsh light that we have found with some cheaper nightlights.
Easy to set up for an adult and older child.
Easy to set up and use, this light is good for helping a young child/baby settle down to sleep. I like the nightlight facility as it means we can check on baby without switching on a brighter light, which helps as she is not a good sleeper at the moment. There is not much ‘blue’ in the light but I can’t personally notice any difference but trust that the effect of low blue levels will avoid stimulating wakefulness, which can only help. The light can be switched from one function to another without it making a noise, which also helps. I like the ‘sunset’ fading setting as it does ease the light down gradually to the nightlight, which helps to create a soothing atmosphere – you can have it fading to total darkness if you choose.
Overall, a help to try to support babies and toddlers get into a comfortable, gentle, relaxing sleep pattern.
I’m a poor sleeper and so look for different ways to try to aid my sleep.
This is for children but I’ve found it useful too!
It’s easy to set up as a bedside lamp.
The light helps to aid a gentle way into sleep.
Easy to use and works!
British lighting company, Lumie, has gained a good reputation over the last few years for their “Sunrise” lamps and were actually the people who developed the concept initially. This new Lumie Bedbug is a different idea being designed to help a baby or young child get to sleep at night rather than to wake up in the morning. Lumie brand products are not the cheapest on the market but you do get good design and build quality plus a three year warranty is included with this model. The Bedbug is fairly easy to set up and use and should be suitable for an older child to use independently — you will need to set it yourself for younger kids. The lamp features LEDs rather than traditional bulbs and is powered by a mains adapter supplying a low voltage to the lamp’s micro-USB input — during a power cut the lamp could be run from a suitable portable power bank. You can use the lamp to simulate sunset where the light gradually fades to off, or you can leave it on all night as a low-intensity night-light if your child is a bit nervous of the dark. At around sixty pounds currently from Amazon the Lumie Bedbug is one of the more expensive products of it’s type — but there aren’t really any better with the same features. The Lumie Bedbug seems robust, has LEDs for a maintenance-free long life and the three year warranty should provide peace of mind. The insect design may not appeal to all children but it actually quite cute and friendly when lit up! It could make bedtime easier so is well worth trying!
Lumie have a lot of confidence in this little critter and its is easy to see why. The gradual fading to a warm night light (or darkness if preferred), is really cool and effective for little ones. Stragihtforward for an adult to operate. The one limitting factor is that it needs a direct power supply. Comes whith a mains adaptor and a micro USB lead. Could be operated using a shorter/longer lead and a power pack if required. More of a negative for us is the name. Doubtless some smug marketing executive thinks it is a hilarious stroke of genius, but for those of us who help the less fortunate, it seems in very bad taste. The unit itself looks more like a ladybug than a human parasite, so children do like the look of it. The shape is also very stable.
Affordabilty is an issue, but it is value for money and the 3 year extended warranty gives extra peace of mind. Stocked by high end retailers, including including Selfridges, so you can be cetain that you are paying for quality.
This is a cute multi-function bedside/night light.
It is not battery operated but Needs plugged into the mains.
As a bedside light it emits a low blue-white light. This avoids stimulating the sleepy child. It can be instantly turned on and off and you can adjust it.
There is a Sunset setting which starts off at full brightness and then over about fifteen minutes fades. If you want to set it as a nightlife to come on after this you can.
The nightlight has a gentle glow and two settings that should not disturb your child.
An added bonus is a silent light control that lets you go in quietly to check.
My grandchild loves the little bug and it makes her feel more secure.
It is recommended by Sarah Ockwell-Smith author of The Gentle Sleep Book.
This has been a great help in getting our seven-year-old daughter to sleep. It’s quick and easy to set up and she has mastered the controls very quickly. The light can remain on, and at its brightest it gives out a warm peachy-white colour and can be dimmed through orange down to a deep red. The light can also be set to gradually dim (sunset) over a 15 minute period of time to either a warm glow or completely off. The light is designed to emit almost zero blue light which stimulates the brain and makes sleep more difficult. A great deal of children’s night lights emit blue light which rather defeats the object!
The unit is powered by a mains adaptor with a shortish lead of approximately 1.5 metres and ends in a micro USB plug which fits into the back of the light. I have tried using the light with a 20,000 mAh power bank and that worked just fine so the light could be used when camping.
My daughter finds the lamp really captivating and has actually asked to go to bed because of it.
The instructions are easy to follow. It has a three year warranty and depending on where it is purchased there’s a 45 day trial period
Lumie Bedbug — Sleep-optimised Bedtime Light with Sunset & Nightlight for Babies & Children is a pleasant night time bed-light for use in helping children to sleep. The overall design is subdued, friendly and appealing I found. The various options of sunset of double sunset etc I thought were good options, or leave this on all night with a subdued orange light. Our 3 year old grand-daughter thought this was a pretty good neat idea idea of a night light. We are in agreement, its pro-active in the sense that it will help to promote a bedtime pattern and the help in inducing a sleep routine. I note this comes with a 3 year guarantee, if treated properly there is little reason to see why it would not live up to that expectation. The push button controls are more designed for adult set-up, however if a smart child was using this they would probably master this quickly enough.
Here are some of the options / info I noted:
Fully adjustable bedside lighting
15-minute sunset for a gradual transition to night
Two sunset options: fade-to-off or fade-to-nightlight
Non-alerting orange nightlight with two light intensity options
Smooth and silent light control to check on your child without disturbing them
If considering the purchase I would seriously consider the purchase, I think this provides good value for the money the potential usage you might get from this.
Arrived today. Looks very cute (probably smaller than expected), but annoyingly only works when plugged into the mains. I was hoping it’ll charge up and can be carried around the house during various stages of bedtime routine, like to the bathroom. My 3 year old was excited and watched two “sunsets”, made sure he informed me it had gone “orange” on both occasions. He’s gone to sleep within 40 minutes of being left in his room and only came out once and called for me once more (record!!! Could expect twice the time and five or more appearances of a little person emerging from his room). It seems to have calmed him watching it (no fear of shadows reported tonight/ no over-stimulated child jumping on the bed, which I think is in part caused by bright artificial lighting). However, the real test will be whether the novelty will wear off or weather this will still work as a calming addition to bedtime a few weeks down the line…
Also, I’m going to have to come up with somewhere to put this, like a shelf. At the moment it’s in the middle of the room with the cable trailing across the carpet. It lost a star over needing to be plugged into the mains.
