good qua[ity product, nice to look at, great sound. delivered on time
I’m very happy with the Oakington. I’ve enjoyed setting it up. Reception on the DAB is excellent and I can see myself listening to a lot more radio as a result. The CD Player is also excellent, with exactly the features I need. In fact I’d say the Oakington is ‘the bee’s knees’.
This is an excellent radio and cd player. Looks great and has very good sound quality. If you are looking for a good radio and cd player this is the one to buy ! No hesitations at all. Don’t miss out just buy it !
This large (15.5″ wide, 5″ high) radio CD pleases me because I like the audio quality which I think is a steal at the price. It is a bit of a pfaff to set up with chosen radio stations coming up on the right pre-set buttons and I could take issue with the poorly labelled front controls as well as the lengthy pauses between entering a command on the remote control unit and the command taking affect; tiny criticisms. What matters is how it works when set up to your satisfaction and judged on these criteria it is a wonderful machine.
Sound quality is very good. If you don’t like the factory pre-set you can adjust equalisation on low and high frequencies and keep your setting for use when desired. That used to be called base and treble adjustment. However having played with these controls I finally found that the factory pre-set was best for me in most instances.
I cannot comment on Bluetooth connectivity as I do not use it, but as a well above average DAB/VHF radio and CD player, with various built in clock functions, I rate this unit as very good value; yes, you can spend more and get even better machines but for everyday domestic use the Oakington strikes a very good balance between quality and cost.
An excellent purchase and real value for money. Top quality sound. Highly recommended.
I absolutely love my new compact stereo system, first time buying Oakington, not disappointed at all. Firstly not only does it look good, the sound quality is fantastic, I had a bigger system and wanted something more compact, this has everything, bluetooth, radio, aux, cds just slide in gently, could sing the praises all day. But I reccommend you buy one and try it for yourself, you wont be sorry. Next day delivery was great too, delivered with care.
For the price, this is a quality product. Well built and looks great.
The sound on this is amazing and the bass is unbelievable. Easy to use. Nice retro style and everything can be done by remote control. I haven’t tried the Bluetooth function yet but will update review when I have. Overall opinion: Buy it, you will not be disappointed. 5 Stars .
So far so good but defective remote control needs replacing
I like everything about it! Easy to move around – I use in Kitchen, Bedroom and outside in Gazebo.
Great bit of kit
Sounds good
Just what I needed
I like the radio’s looks, and sound, I am pleased with this radio.
More than happy with this. Exceptional sound quality for a reasonable price.
Really good design. Easy to set up and use. Does all it says on the box. The sound quality is exceptionally good.
Love this little system takes up so little room but the performance is grea
This is great value for money and a great replacement for a far more expensive similar CD/DAB radio system that broke.
I’m an idiot because for various reasons I managed to get into a situation where I had 2,000 cds but no kit on which to play them and no money (or space) to buy a full system.
I bought a couple of units from well known Japanese giants but returned them as the quality was dreadful. Then I hit upon this little beauty…
The Oakington is a good looking unit and surprisingly heavy for its size. Bluetooth connectivity is quick and simple and the DAB/FM is easy to use and preset.
But best of all the sound (especially cd) is excellent for a unit of the size and price.
My problems are solved and I feel less of an idiot.
Brilliant Unit,Highly Recommended, Beautiful Sound from such a Small Unit, includes Bluetooth,CD Player, Dab/FM Radio, and Equaliser, Very Good Bass.
Good value. Has stood the test of time well. Sometimes have to be patient with it when switching on or switching modes. Sometimes gets grumpy and swallows CDs. However, for price range, it does everything you’d hope.
Great price very good value you do have to have the Ariel up for the remote to work and remote is a bit slow but exceptional sound quality for such a reasonably priced item
This bought for my elderly mother (her choice based on look). Good sound quality DAB and CD. No problem tuning
DAB in poor reception area. REALLY SMALL control buttons and icons on unit.
I am really pleased with my CD radio the quality of the sound is brilliant and with the equaliser you can tune to rock pop normal et cetera the volume is good no distortion DAB radio automatically tuned itself all in all I think it’s a very easy machine to use and good value for the money So because of all this I can recommend this produc
The sound quality of DAB is good, even with my terrible signal strength. The CD player sounds clear and crisp depending on which EQ you use, with the same applying to Bluetooth although volume has to be raised higher than radio level for both CD and Bluetooth. The volume goes up higher than comfortable, filling even a larger room. Will see how it behaves in the long run.
I am delighted with this. It is quite heavy and solid made of wood and brushed aluminium. The finish is really good. It has a good clear display and a small number of buttons with a dial on the top. Setup is so simple as it goes into scan mode at power up and all you need to do is press the dial and it sets itself up. The sound is amazing with unbelievable base for such a relatively small device and the high frequencies and mid range are really clear. It comes with a comprehensive remote too. There are a lot of adjustments you could make using the remote and the buttons on the front, but really you probably won’t need to. I had this working to my delight very quickly and have just enjoyed it ever since. I leave it on all day at the weekends for atmosphere and background. This so looks good on my sideboard, pairs well with my mobile and is a neat solution to playing my CD collection. Love it and use it lots.
I’ve had this unit for 6 weeks and it’s been brilliant so far. Lovely tone from the solid cabinet. Bass is great too. I play a mixture of classical music on DAB radio, Boom radio and YouTube on Bluetooth and also cds. To be hyper critical, some cds won’t play at quite as high a volume as the DAB radio or Bluetooth but that’s pretty minor. Display is good, has 4 settings including no display which would be brilliant if used in a dark bedroom. It also looks great in the dark walnut finish. Arrived next day too.
I bought this for my wife Carol to hear her CDs on a Sunday, we just moved house and her Hi-Fi cannot as yet be found. I have myself a stack of separates, CD player, amplifier, speakers – which cannot presently be found either. Anyway, I have experience of several other CD player/radio combos and had to take the CDs off as the sound quality was so poor. Carol isn’t as choosy as me, however when she was playing her CDs, mostly 1960s pop music I was impressed by the sound quality, the clarity, no parts of the tunes were missing, the reproduction was crisp and clean. It was a revelation at this level.
There is a great tonality to the Oakington but I was disappointed by the slow wake-up time (just over 10 seconds). This is long enough to make you wonder, when using the remote control, whether you actually switched it on. I contacted Majority and the company confirmed that this isn’t a fault: the unit really does have a slow wake-up. I’m not sure why that is. Yes, I’ve got another DAB radio that also has a slow wake-up but even in FM and CD mode the Oakington is slow. I was tempted to return it but the lovely sound made me decide otherwise. And that, I think, says a lot about its audio!!!
I bought this for my mum as she was complaining about not having a device to play her CDs on. Being a lady of a certain age I wanted it to be easy for her to use and have the ability to bluetooth music as I have been trying to get her into Spotify. This device has been a resounding success. Decent quality of music from a budget device which resonates around the room. Turned right up it does distort a little but it’s a budget buy. CD sound is excellent. The remote seems a little less solid than the radio that said I would highly recommend this unit. I can even attach a record player to it.. that might be next!
We bought the unit because our CD payer had stopped working. We have been pleasantly surprised at the quality of sound, both on CD and DAB radio. The additional Bluetooth function gives connection to streaming music. Delivery was prompt; packaging effective but not excessive; styling excellent. We have already recommended majority to our friends.
The product itself is very good – sound quality particularly It’s a nice looking piece that fits in beautifully with the furniture. However, the item was ordered for a birthday in very good time (10 days earlier) and the delivery date given was 2 days before the birthday and not next day even though it showed as a Prime item. I didn’t worry as that was still in time. However,on the due date I got an email saying it wouldn’t come for another week. I spoke to customer services who said they would cancel the initial order and do a refund and told me to immediately order it again and they’d make sure it was sent Prime next day. I did indeed receive a box next day – only to discover TWO of them had been sent and no sign of the refund for the first one!! I just hope I end up only paying for one of them.
I’ve returned a Bose unit which was second hand and not very good. Replaced it with this Oakington and am very happy. Using DAB Radio I managed to tune in around 45 good reception channels. I stored 40 of them as that is the maximum allowed. The CD works and the sound is very good. Also, if you go to majority.co.uk and select Oakington, they offer you a FREE 3 year warranty.
Having purchased 2 Majority items I decided to buy their Oakington Radio / CD player and I am delighted with the product. Well packaged complete with batteries, remote , mains lead fitted with 3 pin plug.
Due to the much lower price for Walnut affect case rather than the Oak that I preferred but was silly money !
This item has a decent weight to it, well finished with attractive brushed aluminium front that has open CD slot and function buttons. The design is understated , minimal and sleek with telescopic radio aerial at the back. My one dislike is the rotary circular volume control that is situated on the top ,protrudes and feels rather flimsy. I would of liked to have a better quality control recessed . However the sound quality is very good with a choice of EQ settings and decent bass response.
Excellent value as usual with Majority
I did a lot of research and read a lot of reviews before buying the Oakington. Nowadays a lot of young people listen to music on phones and computers, as do I. But if you want good sound quality, which I’ve always been used to, being an oldie, those formats won’t do except for background sound. I didn’t want a big music system though, so bought this. The sound is amazing for a small unit. It’s so nice to be able to pick out all the subtlety in a piece of music. Very happy.
Lovely looking unit, size perfect (sits on my windowsill just fine). The sound is amazing for such a small unit. DAB/DAB+ and FM Radio tuning and pre-setting (40 pre-sets per mode) was a little fiddly but some time and patience solved this hiccup. Very nice remote control, coupled with a smooth navigating button on top of the machine covers all bases on the modes and tuning. CD player just great – slot in type very easy to operate. USB and audio ports to rear of unit are sufficient. Would have given 5 stars but would have liked to have an antenna connection for an external antenna. Otherwise, very pleased indeed.
I already had a Majority Skiddaw sound bar (hooked up to my projector) which I was very happy with. Now, with Xmas approaching I wanted a device for the living room to stream my seasonal music to from my phone, and also to listen to the (DAB) radio. The USB and AUX connectivity are a nice bonus (I don’t see myself using the FM radio or CD player very often, to be honest.) I decided on this model (named after the neighbouring village, Oakington) and there was a good deal on the walnut version (which fits well). Delivery was prompt, everything was well packaged and installed in five minutes. The sound is great (Bluetooth and DAB; haven’t used anything else yet) and the remote easy to use. Yes, the display could have been brighter and slightly larger but that’s about the only gripe I can think of. Very happy with my purchase. I’ll use it for a couple of months and if I’m still happy then I might order another one for the bedroom.
This is a very good looking and, more importantly, a very good sounding small mini HiFi system. The sound is full across the whole frequency domain and the bass is especially impressive. The unit has a good range and easy to use manual bass and treble control and allows storing of a user profile.
The volume is probably loud enough to fill a room full of party people, however I cannot test this in the current COVID lock down climate and has to wait for a better time.
This is also one of the very few mini HiFi systems which have a head phone output.
BT connection is simple and swift.
A very minor drawback are the front buttons which have embossed elements which cannot be easily deciphered , however since the remote is fully functioning there is probably no ned to use the front buttons, maybe with the exception of the CD eject button.
This is my first DAB so cant really comment on it but it immediately picked up about 30 channels which I believe to be the maximum available anyway where i am living, in the sticks in rural Scotland.
All in all a perfect purchase which arrived within 36h after ordering.
very nice looking unit easy to set up though there seems a little lag in switching it on and when responds, tone and volume very good, am still struggling to set radio stations to pre set, having to keep referring back between buttons and instructions feel they should be on same /close pages, as have to keep going backwards and forwards to read what to do with what button.cd works fine though again a little lag between pressing button on remote and it actually responding. all in all a nice compact unit , very pleased with it, have yet to try bluetooth.
Nice looking machine with good quality sound. The only downside for me is that the controls are quite limited. You have to scroll through the preset stations to find the one you want because there are no individual preset buttons. The instruction booklet is fairly clear but after a few weeks of ownership I find I still have to refer to it occasionally. It looks and feels well made, sounds good and doesn’t look out of place in my kitchen. Overall I’m happy with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone looking for a DAB radio CD player around this price.
I bought this CD radio to have by ny bedside to listen to Audiobooks.
The sound is really quite good for the price – a lot less bass than my Bose Wave but plenty.
The radio works well and not too difficult to change station or pre-set.
There is a delay on the remote but once you are aware, it’s no problem
For me the ace is that if you switch it off while it’s playing a Cd it restarts from that point when you turn it back on Great feature. No more hunting for where you were in an audiobook – this works the same for MP3 CD’s. ** only if you don’t eject the CD *
Numbers are alittle small but clear – we’ll see how it lasts.
Very pleased so far..
This review is pretty much just based on sound quality.
I’m very picky and quite hard to please when it comes to sound quality. I looked at A LOT of different DAB radios before buying this and very happy I chose this one. I can’t comment too much about many of the features because the main reason I bought it, is to use it for just using the DAB and Blutooth.
I listen to mostly heavy metal/rock etc and the sound from this system is so good for what I listen to. The bass is pretty much perfect, for the price and size of the stereo. Definitely loud enough for most situations. I put some hip-hop/rap on too and the bass is actually quite powerful. Nothing overpowering, quite a balanced sound for what this is.
Very good quality for the price.
I cannot overstate the sound quality generated by this compact DAB radio. The trebles are crisp and the bass deep yet softened by the small subs positioned at the rear of the unit. My taste in music being somewhat eclectic, ranging from hip hop to classical to metal has pushed this system’s audio capabilities close to their limits. The quality of the audio output throughout has been exemplary. Also worth mentioning is the remote control feature; when a phone or MP3 player is connected via usb or Bluetooth. Being able to control the track selection, volume, or playback settings from the units supplied remote is an underplayed feature which is a boon for someone as lazy as me as it saves trudging back and forth to change songs through the phone/ MP3 players settings when using the usb connection. Another feature I have yet to utilise is the aux input for connecting to a hdtv for audio output from the televisual device, which, given the quality of audio output of this compact unit is a useful feature which negates the purchase of a sound bar if one appreciates cinema quality audio from the comfort of their own living room given the underwhelming speaker quality of most new hdtvs. For the price, plus given the quality multiplied by its features equals I couldn’t be Chappier.
I’d had some problems with my other unit, a different brand but same spec and very similar looking, so on seeing the glowing reviews I sent for this. I have to say that it’s not a patch on the other, so I sent it back. I can’t in all honesty complain too much about the sound, it’s not bad, but not brilliant either, not a patch on the Azatom. The case is wood flavoured plastic and the general appearance is not one of a Rolls Royce machine. It’s much lighter than the Azatom, which may account for the lack of bottom to the sound, even with the bass notched up. The LED display is indeed very dim, it has 3 settings, dim, dimmer, off. A minor annoyance unless you have dodgy eyesight. The controls are also rather annoying, with one multipurpose knob on the top, which you may have to use while looking at the dim display on the front. When you alter the volume you don’t get a bar to tell you what you’ve done.
I am 84 and find technical devices more difficult to understand these days. This unit at first seemed a difficult prospect to set up but I have managed O.K..
The sound is beautiful and the C.D. very easy to use.. I am pleased to find Boom Radio on the DAB settings and I tend to leave it on as background in the Kitchen/Eating area. I now realise how irritating most of the Radio 2 presenters are!
I originally when for the Auna Harvard stereo after reading all of the good reviews but it was returned with a defective CD player and I couldn’t get a replacement sent. In the end, I bought this Majority Oakington stereo which is very similar. Having tried out the Auna unit, I was able to compare some of the features of the two. The DAB tuner is much better in the Auna as the Majority does struggle with some stations if the signal is a little weaker. The sound quality is also slightly lower in quality to the Auna unit but not by much.
Don’t let this review put you off the Majority though. It’s a competent performer. I’m a little fussy with my music and this is in the home office where I like to listen to my BBC Sounds downloads via Bluetooth, my mp3 music on USB, a few CD’s and DAB radio so it gets a workout.
In the end, the Majority is the one on the shelf working and the Auna is back in Berlin so that says something too. The loss of 1 star is just because I was able to compare it to the Auna and found the tuner to be a bit lacking with one or two stations.
After years of using the same old hi-fi system I realised it wasn’t performing so well anymore in sound and as I have heaps of cds which I love I started searching for a new unit.
On browsing through all Amazon had to offer I came upon this model I’d never heard of before but the majority of reviews all looked amazing, the compactness of it was really appealing as it looked so uncomplicated to “assemble”(!),lovely to look at and the wood colour seemed perfect to match with my own furniture….and as you can see,it absolutely does.
Well,it has just arrived four days earlier than anticipated and 25 minutes later it is playing a Stevie Nicks cd absolutely beautifully, far, far better than I’ve heard it recently on the old unit.
No untidy cables/wires just a plug-in lead and a remote and that’s it.
Admittedly I went into a panic at first because I couldn’t get the “cd” mode to come up once I’d switched on, on either the unit itself or the remote, despite the instruction to press the appropriate buttons a number of times and had a dismayed vision of needing to pack it up to return but I read the “Troubleshooting” page and simply switched it all off and started again with immediate success.
This is a fabulous looking, superb performing machine and as this is a very early review I’m keeping my fingers crossed it’ll be like it for a long time to come.
Not too bothered as to the radio functions as I can simply receive lots of stations through Sky TV but it was to get the best performances from my cds that I needed something to do them justice….and wow,I’ve found it.
Highly recommend as you won’t be disappointed if you have a treasured cd collection that deserves to be listened to as they are meant to be.
For the price this seems like a good bit of kit so far. The sound quality is good, certainly better than devices of a similar size that I have encountered previously. The first unit I received was unfortunately faulty as neither DAB nor FM worked, however return to Amazon was easy and the second one is fine. I have used the CD, Bluetooth and radio functions, most are easy to understand however tuning the radio can be tiresome, but I suppose I’m too used to radios with a knob to turn rather than pressing little buttons over and over. My main complaint would be the speed at which it responds to commands: either through pushing the buttons on the front or using the remote it feels rather sluggish, with a significant delay before anything happens. The remote also seems to have too much going on, lots of little buttons that require you to read the manual to work out what is going on, however you get used to that quite quickly. These however are minor niggles, overall it seems to be of good quality, particularly for this price bracket. It performs well even at louder volumes, which can be tricky in speakers this size. I read up on many similar all in one cd/radio/Bluetooth speaker devices and it seems that the Majority brand are the best in this price range. Certainly so far my experience of using it seems to be a nice sounding and nice looking bit of kit.
There is a depth to the sound that I was really surprised about, well maybe looking at the size of it maybe I shouldn’t have been. It’s certainly solidly built. The CD player is thankfully quiet: I used to have a Pure Chronos which became unusable because of the racket it made. So quite a few pluses. On the downside: the buttons to operate the Oakington manually feel cheap and it’s hard to see what they do. They also have limited functionality. If you use the remote there is a delay, which you do adapt to quickly. You will also find, eventually after fumbling around, the connections at the back. Shame the USB or headphone socket couldn’t have been somewhere more accesible, perhaps having these somewhere visible would spoil the look but having them somewhere behind the aerial makes plugging things in a faff. Also talking about the USB play back, it’s also a shame that it does not recognise folders, so imagine trying to play a USB with 20 albums on takes more patience than I have.
So to sum up: a very nice sound, looks nice, if you ignore the cheap buttons, which is quite easy as they blend into the brushed aluminium front, the downside of which makes it hard to know what you’re doing, at least until muscle memory kicks in. The USB function is a let down and I am going to make damn sure I don’t misplace the remote as without it, well, let’s not think about that. I have a Fitzwilliam and am so impressed with the USB playback, internet radio and overall usability of it. This Oakington, not so much. Interesting that they sell for the same price but one I’ve been genuinely impressed with and the other genuinely underwhelmed by. The only reason I bought the Oakington was to have a portable CD player, knock 30 quid off the price and I would have adjusted my expectations and would be a satisfied owner of a Majority Oakington. Verdict: I think Majority and I could have done better.
This really hits the spot. I have a big Technics hifi, which was fine when I lived in the middle of nowhere, but now I live in town and it just booms, so wanted something smaller. I haven’t been playing my CDs for the longest time due to the *booming”, been streaming music on smart speakers, which is great, but good to get back to physical formats. This has great sound, does Bluetooth as well, so can do my streaming too on much better speakers and DAB Radio to boot.
Looks gorgeous, from the UK, price bracket that’s just right, sounds fantastic. Perfect really.
This hi-fi box of magic is quite amazing, I’m not so fond of remote controls for volume functions- but for an old girl like me playing her precious C.D.s, remastered from original albums, the sound quality is pure joy!!
In fact, it’s been so good, I haven’t had time to listen to different radio channels yet- as my C.D.s out perform the rehashed rubbish, often described as “new” music.
So impressed by the quality of system- I’ve ordered another one- for a different part of my house.
Nice build quality, good sound, but let down by inadequate display, no direct wifi capablity, and worst of all for me the lack of a menu system for usb playback where music files are in individual albums – would it really be too difficult to show the folders on a usb drive and allow the user to pick the album they want, rather than the unit just playing the first thing and giving no choice – hence the 4 stars and not 5. Majority needs to up its game just that bit more to be a first class offering
There are several good points to this radio/CD. It has a good room filling sound on both DAB and CD. The DAB set up was exceedingly simple. It found many stations using just the extendable antenna.
CD operation too is simple and sounds good. Access to all functions is great and easy from the remote control. A favourite bugbear of mine is just this. Simple use is dependent on the remote, from the Oakington itself, many features can be accessed but not nearly so simply.
The only fail I had was with the FM reception, despite several scans it could find no FM stations. Not a worry, as I bought it for DAB and CD, with occasional use as a Blue Tooth speaker, all good. Our FM reception is not great here and all my other FM radios make use of an external aerial, something for which the Oakington has no facility.
I do have one other small grouse, common to most “smart” and DAB devices. It cannot be used as a radio or whatever directly from the mains. Applying power simply puts the machine into standby. Fortunately for this use the Majority Cambridge is excellent, so much so I already have two of these! The Oakington? It is the go to machine for the hobby room.
I have been looking for a nice looking easy to use and great sound system since my trusty old Sony packed up on me. I liked the look of this but even with the reviews I wasn’t expecting such quality for such a good price. It was so easy to set up just plug in let the remote scan your radio stations and go. I went for the walnut and liked it so much I order another in Oak but it was a bit too light in colour for my room so sent it back and recorded in another walnut. The service is really quick in both sending and giving me a refund for my return I also like that I can order it without all the masses of amazon packaging that you usually get with every order. I haven’t tried the bluetooth function yet but all I can say is I love this new system it looks just as good as my brothers Ruark but I am sure as he paid 999.00 for his it must be better but to a layman like me you wouldn’t know. Slim Sleek and Superb is all I can say.
The sound is good. Attractive looks. DAB is good, depending of course on location and position of set. FM reception could be better, doesn’t pick up too many FM stations. CD player is fine. As others have said there is a slight delay when using the remote control but you get used to it. It has stepped volume control rather than gradual, I prefer gradual. I would also prefer the headphone socket to be at the front, it’s less fiddly. For the money I I paid (99.99) I am happy with this purchase and it looks and sounds really nice.
Overall a very good product. Great sound given the compact size of the unit. Paired instantly with my iPad to access my stored ITunes music and so far I have been happy with digital radio reception. Remote a little slow but otherwise ok. Only marked this product down a bit because of the packaging. Product was clearly a return, the box had been opened and taped back up, the unit was not sealed within its accompanying protective shrink wrap, the instruction manual was curled and obviously used and there was a small mark on the front of unit but it was not worth returning it. You don’t expect to receive someone else’s returned unit when you are buying new and I was disappointed with the customer experience, but overall I am pleased with the Majority Oakington. This is my second Majority product, I also have the Eddington radio and have been impressed with the richness of the sound of both units.
Bit worried after seeing few reviews regarding display and CD problems, I emailed Majority direct and raised the issues before it came, got back to me quickly explained that they were aware of the issues been to or spoken to factory and all new units have had these problems sorted.
So hopefully I’ve got a new one, register on website and get 3 years warranty only time will tell if Majority honour it if any issues, but UK company with a UK website and still in business.
Sound wise it’s bang on EQ presets or set your own, no problems with DAB, CD, Bluetooth connectivity remote OK, decent build and if you read instructions easy to use and set up.
I do really like this product. I bought it mainly because I wanted a CD player and something small because I don’t have room for a big hi-fi system. And it fits perfectly in the corner of my living room. The sound quality is also really good and I would say is better than my Alexa. There are 8 buttons on it and its not easy to tell initially what does what but you get use to it. One thing which could make this product better is the ability to activiate it by voice command rather than remote. I know Alexa does this but I couldn’t find a product which did this with a CD player. Not sure if its because this can’t be done or there is but I missed it or there is a gap in the market for this. But I do like this product as it does have bluetooth which is handy too for playing stuff from my phone.
I can’t get the CD to go into the slot. Very disappointed. Found the answer – it wasn’t in ‘CD mode’. On p. 22 of the instructions it tells you this and not to try and force in a CD. I so nearly did this and broke the mechanism. Now working OK. No it isn’t! Can’t get it to eject. May have to send it back.
Answer to problem 2: it was in ‘Standby Mode’. When it is in this mode a red light is on and it won’t do anything.
I have now made a diagram of what the buttons mean and stuck it to the top with sellotape. In other words, OK machine, very hard to understand the instructions.
I purchased this Oakington Stero on the reviews of others and have to say, they were not wrong. The sound is fantastic, the volume is excellent and it comes with a decent remote so you can see what you are doing. Easy to set up, plugged it in, went on the dab and it automatically found all the radio stations. I’ve only had it a week, so not tried the usb and bluetooth yet. Mainly got it for radio and cd playing. It sits nicely on my shelf, so if you’re looking for a stero that’s not intrusive with a fantastic sound, this is the one. For 99.99 you can’t go wrong….I totally love this bad boy.
I’d had my eye on this unit for a few weeks and actually added the walnut one to my basket … but didn’t get around to ordering it straight away. When I decided to order along with a few other things, the walnut one was out of stock. I decided to put an older hi-fi in the room I’d intended for it and order the lighter colour one instead. I am really pleased with it. Fab sound and the unit seems well built and of good quality. When i first switch it on, I hear a little whirring sound and there is a 4 or 5 second delay before the radio or CD kicks in, but I’ve got used to that. I would actually consider ordering the walnut colour one as typically it’s now back in stock! Delighted to know its also UK made.
I bought this as a present for my wife. We’re both impressed, with the quality of the speakers in particular. She loves it. Definitely recommended, especially when comparing the sound reproduction with smart speakers (that in my experience are either ferociously expensive or hopeless and sometimes both). Whatever’s happened to speakers these days.
Now I am an audio geek lol so sound is important to me. Now this unit really does produce a great sound and you get control on Bass Treble. Such an important funtion to have as we all like our music different. So a big plus.
Setup us very easy. User manual is a refreshingly concise one, which is printed in a very reader friendly font. Tip. Use remote control for set up. Its much easier.
DAB. One tip for all DAB units. Always do 2 full scans. Scan 1 always finds around 20 stations. Scan 2 managed to find 57. As I said, seems to be on all devices. So give it a try. Anyway, the antenna we have at half the length and no problem picking up DAB.
CD player seems reassuringly built. Good positive mechanical movement as it takes and returns discs. Sound is clear and balanced.
Bluetooth works well so no issues there.
So, to date, I am struggling to find any flaws so yes im happy with this purchase. Recommended.
Having bought a compact DVD player from the company, which i’ve been happy with, when my old DAB radio went west, I looked at what the company could offer me as a replacement.
Read reviews and decided that with DAB, FM radio, usb, audio in, bluetooth and a CD I’d go for this unit with a 3 year warranty, if registered with Majority.
DAB and FM quickly and strongly tunes into all stations available, in my area, using just a short extension of the attached telescopic aerial.
Good choice, great looking, sleek unit in light oak. gives a nice quality of sound, good enough for guests (when allowed round) to comment on the quality of the sound coming from it.
Has replaced not just the old DAB radio but also my component music system in the lounge, freeing up useful space.
All in all very good for dinner party music from whatever source and it can be wound up quite loud when necessary without distortion.
Downside the remote, works well however, I need my glasses on to read what does what on its buttons, as they are quite small.
As with many products, the few negative comments leave one wary of buying despite the multiple good reviews. Nevertheless, instead of buying nothing, as they all have some negative comments, I bought this product as I had previous experience of Majority products. I’ve only had it a few hours, but sound on radio and CD is excellent, given the limitations of the size of the product. Setup was easy, and thankfully the CD player behaved itself. I haven’t tested all options yet, but this will do for now. It also looks good. Thankfully the evidence of some poor handling with a slight tear of the packaging hadn’t been translated through to the interior of the box, or to the radio as it had been well insulated internally.
So, I managed to avoid writing my review prior to setting up my unit fully which was a challenge since it looked so good when I deboxed it…I had to replace my former JVC unit which had finally given up the ghost (probably over use) after a decade.
I have to say that maybe it was the choice of cd that I first listened to but as the music built up it was if I had been missing something before, the bass is so crisp and the treble/high end has a warmth that you only normally get on headphones. For me, investing in a sound system is all about just that…the sound. Buying a brand that I didn’t know before based on reviews and feedback on line has not disappointed! An excellent choice (even if I do say so myself)!
I wanted to move to DAB as my R3 reception sounded like a sack of hissing snakes! Looking at the options I was of the opinion that most DAB radios were very small, or very large with copious amounts of black plastic and speakers the size of large boxes. I wanted one that would fit my shelf and look nice. As you can see, this one fits the bill! I have nothing but praise for the sound quality. As I am no technophile I approach new purchases with some trepidation! But in this case – all was well. In next to no time I had my stations locked in and playing.
Two tiny criticisms, I had to buy a cranked socket as the power lead protruded too far at the rear, why not supply a lead with a cranked plug? And, and this is the same for most electronic kit. The USB port etc are well hidden at the rear, a small side panel would be better!
This is a very nice retro looking Hi-Fi Stereo combined with modern sound system at very reasonable price.
The system was very easy to set e.g. presetting all the radio stations. I loved the large selection of DAB radio stations available and can now also stream from my Amazon music account via bluetooth on the phone which my previous system did not offer. Another plus is that it does not take up too much space if space is premium and for the price I think it really was good value for money.
I had never heard of this brand before and was looking at brands like pioneer level, however this review exceeded those of similar systems at that level and has not failed to disappoint especially on affordability.
Recently spent some time in hospital, rather seriously Ill, decided that, (as I was in private ward due to nature of illness – Not Covid-19) a little Music would make the long days and nights pass more pleasantly. Being a little practical I decided to get a one piece unit for use after I returned Home.
This unit is compact and contains access to most, if not all input options you could require, from a general purpose player and also access to a universal input for things such as TV Record deck etc
The main plus point is however the sound quality which is beyond expectations and resulted in many staff visitors (and other patients), appearing at all hours to enjoy the quality Music output, mostly from the DAB+ Options of 70’s pop “classics”
Remote is very useful although the amount of options on a small handset can take some getting used to , the top mounted scroll system is an alternative for general use, of course
This is a great stereo. I’d been rediscovering my CDs recently, and wanted something proper to play them on, whilst also allowing me to play songs from my phone. This ticks all the boxes.
It’s an elegant, solid unit in silver and a faux-wood finish. The sound is good, and the built-in equaliser means — after a little fiddling — that you can play with the bass and treble to your heart’s content. It’s got a CD player, DAB radio, USB and Bluetooth, all of which work flawlessly — even the sometimes-fiddly Bluetooth seems to pair very easily.
It’s also got a silvery click-wheel on top of the unit, which is enormously satisfying. It looks great, sounds great, and feels very well-made; it’s a worthy addition to any classy room.
I love the sleek modern look of this Oakington Dab unit. The modern functionality of DAB and Bluetooth allows us to enjoy modern broadcasting and the CD player means we can still enjoy our music in a more old fashioned way. The tone of the speakers is fine for our Garden Room . The only drawback is in a bright room its hard to see the display from across the room. Armed with the remote you can turn the unit on to its last programme, for us it would be the DAB radio and skip up and down our pre-set stations without needing to look at the display. A touch of a button on the remote and the bluetooth becomes active and then all I need to see is on my phone in my hand.
On the whole I’d recommend this to friends
Ok, let me start by saying that, if the system would have allowed me to do so, this would have been a 4.5 star marking.
Now for the review of the product itself.
First, a personal gripe – I hate reviews which award 5 stars but only mention the promptness of delivery and nothing else. Having got that off my chest, the first thing I must say is that the seller – iZilla – is to be complimented on the promptness of the delivery of this item as it arrived the very next day rather than a week later as indicated by Amazon. Well done iZilla.
The product itself came in a sturdy box and was well protected. Out of the box and the unit was every bit as beautiful as it looks on the Amazon page. Stylish in looks it comes in a walnut finish which is sure to please. I note though that our European brethren also have the option of a piano black finish (albeit at greater cost) and, from a personal point of view, it would have nice to have had that choice extended to the UK. (Majority please note).
Setting up the unit was relatively easy (just plug it in and hoist the built in aerial) but I found the display screen was almost impossible to read when placed in my sunlit conservatory and even though the screen was not in the direct line of the sun. Later, when the sun retreated and in the evening, this wasn’t a problem but it did make for earlier operational difficulties such as moving from DAB to CD playback.
Auto tuning on DAB station selection was fine but I did encounter difficulties in accessing stations when I switched to FM even though I live just 10 miles from the transmitter. Not a deal breaker for me as DAB and CD playback were my must haves when choosing my replacement micro system and in both of these fields the Majority Oakington excels. Accuracy of station lock on and tone were spot on and the CD playback was superb.
All in all, there are I feel a couple of areas which could be improved on but – hey – we are talking here about a very modestly priced system which punches well above its weight. And the bonus is that it’s made here by a British company here in the UK.
So, despite the drawbacks I’ve highlighted, would I buy it again and recommend it to others? You bet I would!
I was after something reasonably priced that would have a DAB radio, play my CDs and also accept a USB stick with MP3 files from my PC, this does all that, more and delivers good sound. I haven’t tried the Bluetooth connection yet.
Having listened to Bose and other high end systems I would say its not up there, but its pretty close, it just lacks that extra sparkle I guess, its hard to describe not being an audiophile. But, its got good base, mid and high frequencies seem good too. When I first turned it on, i was expecting really good sound from what I read in other reviews, so I was slightly disappointed. But that’s more the fault of the overly positive reviews.
The sound is good in general and very good for the price is my opinion.
The worst feature which I haven’t read much about is the controls….jeez! Basically because there are so many features crammed into the unit there isn’t a button for everything so for example setting up the DAB radio and storing the channels in presets took me a while to figure out, it wasn’t logical and wasn’t described in the manual… you have to use the remote and a bit of common sense to figure it out, I think some wrinklies would need their kids to help!
Also, you cannot feed a CD into the unit or remove it unless you have selected CD as source. Not a biggy, but may explain some people thinking theirs is broken.
This stereo is very high quality & I can’t stop using it! There don’t appear to be many systems out there with all these functions for this price, so I was a little hesitant. However it has been brilliant, & I have had great delight in playing CDs from my student days & the radio reception is very clear. I had to buy a jack to jack for my iPod, but that was only an extra couple of quid. The only slight niggle is that there are dedicated buttons on the remote control for upping or lowering the bass & treble levels – & they don’t appear to change anything. However, the pre-set levels are fine, so it doesn’t really matter. Am genuinely considering getting another one for elsewhere in the house! Recommend it thoroughly.
Sound quality excellent – as another reviewer we read, prior to purchase, said, it rivals Bose.
Easy to use and set up, and if you want the unit to go against eg a shelf wall and there’s not much room to put in USB sticks, get some of these from Amazon – tiny leads that only project about 1cm and allow you to plug in your USB stick at the end of a short lead hidden behind the product. They’re called “SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Male to Female Extension Data Cable Up and Down Angle 2PCS by Oxsubor(20CM,8IN), and make our new Oakington a product we’re 100% satisfied with.
I got this product to play DAB stations in the bedroom as I prefer music to silence when I’m sleeping or trying to sleep. It was therefore important that the lower end of the volume scale was low enough not to be intrusive and I am glad to say it was ideal. On the other hand if I am listening in the day and would prefer a lot more volume then the unit can deliver that as well. It is seriously loud when cranked up a bit!
The sound quality is very good, despite the budget price. I previously had a Bose Wave Radio which I retired as it didn’t have DAB stations and I couldn’t justify spending the necessary money to get a Wave Radio which did include DAB. I would say the Oakington compares very well with the Bose. I certainly don’t think I have had to sacrifice any quality to save (a lot of) money. I am very happy that I made the switch and wished I had done it before.
By the bye, the User Manual which comes with the Oakington is very clearly written in English as a first language, which makes a pleasant change from some user manuals which look as if they were translated by Google. It is also downloadable as a pdf from the Majority website.
This really is an excellent unit. Don’t be put off by the budget price. It is seriously good value and a quality product comparing well with units costing many times the price.
I’ve held back on reviewing this as I wanted to make use of it for a couple of months first.
First impression is it looks good.
Easy to set up, found the DAB stations easily.
Unfortunately I live in an area that has poor fm reception, so unable to get any fm stations to tune in. This is really the only down side of the Oakington, it would certainly benefit from an aerial input socket rather than having to rely on the pre installed telescopic aerial. For that reason alone I’m giving this 4 rather 5.
Sound quality is extremely good and the bass is awesome.
The remote is as some have mentioned, a little slow to respond to the point that you’re not sure if you pressed it correctly, but you soon get used to waiting a second or so.
Overall impression for the price, I’m very impressed.
I’ve linked mine to Bluetooth with ease and a Marley Stir It Up Turntable and can confirm that the Sound quality is superb.
Definitely recommended.
I’ve always aspired to have a Bose as the sound quality so good so I was slightly sceptical when I’d read all the reviews on this product especially as the Oakington so much cheaper, but thought they can’t all be wrong. I’m happy to say that all the positives were correct. I am delighted with this product. If you’re looking for great sound quality, value and style then look no further. When I’d first the viewed the Oakington I thought it looked about the same size as a Bose (but I hadn’t read the spec) but that’s a minor detail. I have a dark oak finish which looks very stylish, I’m totally satisfied with it. Honestly, I can’t think of anything negative to say about it. Magnificooooooooh Off to play more Queen!
I have only just set up this unit, but so far it was quite easy, and the instruction book was clear and straightforward. The sound quality of the DAB/FM radio is very good. In my case, this is just as well, because I have severe hearing problems, but I am very disappointed to find that the Bluetooth only works ‘one direction’, allowing you to connect with output from ‘phone or other devices – fine if you use these, which I don’t. I had deliberately ordered this unit because it advertised Bluetooth conectivity, and one existing user had said (in ‘Questions’) that you should be able to use Bluetooth headphones with it OK. In fact, you cannot do so, as the instruction manual confirms in a brief paragraph near the end of the manual. That defeats the object for me in buying this unit, as I wanted an output I can hear through my Bluetooth headphones. Otherwise, a nice buy!!
This was bought as a present and I absolutely love it. It looks very well made, sounds wonderful. It was so simple to set up. I just plugged it in, switched it on at the back and it found all the DAB stations automatically. I didn’t even have to put up the aerial. I mainly wanted this to play my many audio books and plays. If paused or put on standby it remembers the place & picks up again where it left off. Some of my audio plays are download only, I put these on a CD and they played perfectly as well. I also put some on USB and once again it played them with no problem and again remembered where it left off when the unit was on standby. I highly recommend it.
I noted one or two comments about the display being faint. I found that if I get below the display (ie if the unit was to be placed on a high shelf) the display becomes nearly invisible – also if it is placed in direct sunlight. Neither of these apply to me, so it’s not a bother.
Great sound quality, stylish finish which sits well with our oak furniture. Free 3 year warranty for peace of mind, perfect, thanks Majority.
We love the unit. The sound is excellent and gives good volume in our large conservatory. When the summer comes I’m sure it will give enough for the patio too.
The display is on the small side which makes it difficult to read from a distance (with old eyes) and when using the remote control I am never sure whether the instructions are being read.
So on the whole we are very pleased with the unit. DAB and FM radio reception is great with the telescopic aerial. We would have liked an option to connect a different aerial. Linking to my phone via Bluetooth is easy so we can use it with Spotify!
I really like this piece of kit and I am glad I hung onto my CDs! The sound is crisp, I love the DAB radio, BBC 4 presenters sound like they’re in the room. Music is very nice. It’s very loud and I tend to have the volume set low. It was easy to connect to BT to play Spotify from my phone. Slight dent on arrival, which was a shame but not worth sending back. It looks more expensive than it is.
Edit Knocked a star off because some time after purchasing the display has become really dim, even on its brightest ‘dimmable’ setting.
It’s a nice sounding, great looking radio, and it’s got all the connection possibilities and audio sources one could wish for. It’ll play from Bluetooth, line in, FM, DAB, CD, and apparently also from USB stick (although I have not tried that). The alarm functionality is handy when you need to get up. The wooden finish is nice – reminds me a little of the radio sets people had when I was a kid in the early eighties. I’d prefer it to not have the wheel/button thing on top, though – it kind of breaks the clear line of the nice wooden finish. Apart from that, it’s a radio. No more, no less.
I did a quite a bit of research before purchasing and this came out as the best all rounder. Most negative reviews – although few and far between – focussed on a dim display, slow responding remote and issues with CDs getting stuck. The display is a bit dim if you’re controlling it from across the room but up close is fine. No issues with the remote and CD player so far but have only had the product for a week. I’m using this mainly as a Bluetooth speaker for my phone and smart TV and both sound great and are simple to connect. Dab radio is crystal clear with loads of channels received. Only 4 stars given as product arrived with a small scratch on the polished metal front but I can live with that rather than face the fuss of sending it back. My first stereo / speaker purchase since my superb but dated Sony system a decade ago and I’m very pleased.
A really high quality piece of kit with great sound. You have so many connectivity options which is also great – highly recommend
I have just purchased this, happy with the cd sound, but it cannot find many DAB stations. This may be down to my area rather than the music system but it is still an initial disappointment. I may try placing it in different places to see if this can be improved. I find the instructions guide not very clear but maybe thats just me. The unit looks very retro, and I cannot get the hang of the Navigate button on the top, fortunately I can use the remote control instead to control the volume. Overall the unit is ok but not exceptional, probably just about worth the price but I do wish the DAB radio worked better. Edit : nearly 2 years on and I am still quite happy with this unit. Like another reviewer said the volume control is a bit problematic, at 3 its a bit too quiet but at 4 it is too loud, so I have to stick to 3. Although its bad at getting DAB stations, there is actually only one that I want (Swinging Radio 60’s) and it gets that fine so I just listen to that. I have other equipment for other stations and wavelengths. I am so impressed with Majority that I have just purchased one of their internet radios for the bedroom and am very happy with that too.
I bought this based on reviews and was pleased with the design and quality of finish. Unfortunately, when first using it, I was rather disappointed – especially with the radio reception (both FM and DAB). The aerial seemed to be of no use at all. I knew that the DAB signal wasn’t brilliant in this area but I should’ve been able to receive FM. This unit doesn’t have an external aerial socket which I feel should be an essential feature. At this stage I was considering returning it but thought I’d see if there was a way of improving the reception. I contacted Majority but received no response.
This may not be recommended by them but I removed the telescopic aerial and clamped the core of coaxial cable in its place and ran it to an external FM/DAB aerial mounted outside. The radio now works perfectly – in both modes! It may be regarded as a bodge but it works for me. I can always reattach the original aerial if needed.
Two other points: As someone else has noted, the icons on the buttons on the front of the unit are incredibly difficult to see. They really ought to be printed in a contrasting colour. Also, operation by the remote control is sluggish – as is the DVD operation.
Despite the negatives I am pleased with my purchase. The sound is very good.
Very attractive Radio/CD/Bluetooth player. I got it mostly to use for music via Bluetooth from my Amazon Fire tablet. It works well and the Bluetooth connection is quick and reliable. I have found setting up radio stations a bit fiddly, but I only use about 5 so I’ve managed it. It seems well made – certainly for the price from Amazon of 99.95. The Equalisation settings don’t seem to make a lot of difference to me, I’ve reverted to ‘Normal’ as the most pleasant sounding. I was pleased to find that it plays CD-R’s both normal audio and mp3 as well. Also mp3 files on usb play satisfactorily. I’m not comletely convinced by the overall sound, however. I would personally like a bit more bass and a bit less treble, but it does have separate bass and treble controls, so I might be pleasantly surprised when I play with them.
Overall – a verry attractive piece of kit at an amazing price
Very Good rather than outstanding. The sound is clear and precise but somewhat lacks depth on CD playback. Not as powerful as some other reviews suggested. Volume mark 25 about maximum without some distortion. Best to raise Bass adjustment to plus 10 on Classical for my purposes. Still DAB very good and overall good value for money from a British Manufacturer(!) UPDATE: After much testing, I have decided that the “Rock” setting is best even though I nearly always listen to Classical. I also keep the bass at plus 10. The combination of this deep bass boost also seems to add more depth to what is now a very satisfactory listening experience! Not perfect but really very good!
At the time of writing I have had this unit one day. On opening it was evident that it was a well put together substantial unit. The set up was non existant to easy.
The number of DAB channels is dependant on your geography and the aspect of the unit in your home. My first scan gave me 43 Channels the second scan after adjusting the ariel gave me 53. Blue tooth connection is as easy as it gets , no codes required. CD player is straight forward. The unit is very attractive wood effect with a brushed aluminium type front fascia. The remote, is a key peice of equipment here as operation the buttons on the front of the unit would only be usefull if the batteries went dead in the remote. The unit also has a tactile circular control in chrome on the top of the unit This unit far exceeds my expectation in terms of build quality and finish. The most exciting part is the sound.
I choose Rock on the equaliser even though I listen to classical. Its a fuller sound and suits my taste. The sound is excellent and there is no detectable vibration distortion or rattling at high volume , although I have not had it on full. If your looking for something that looks stylish well finished understated sounds fantastic and does nt break the bank this is a good choice. Really Pleased… Ala
OK so first time round I gave this only 2 stars but that was before I tried similar items at the same price. I had even bought another and more expensive model and was about it send it back but when I compared the two and this one just sounded so much better.
For sheer sound quality this wins hands down, but it does have one major Achilles heal in the CD player. When you put in a CD two little bars come either side of it(see picture) so when it gets stuck in you have a cat in hell’s chance of ever getting it out again. A few years ago this would be a show stopper but then when was the last time you actually played a CD?
There is one other issue which is more of an annoyance than a problem, which is if you connect a USB stick with all your music on, there is no way to view, albums, artists, genres etc., it just plays all the files in one big loop. That said all the other models we tried seem to have this issue. The work around is to buy an MP3 player that can do this for 20 to 30
Purchased this to replace the finally expired Sony we have in the kitchen. Looks neat and sounds good. At first it was difficult to understand the controls, as the remote only responds to a sharp touch rather than holding, say, the volume down and seeing it reduce, but not a problem.
Its real benefit is that it remembers where you were on a cd or USB stick – just as on most car cd players – something that I have wanted for years. Other players go back to the start when you switch from cd to radio and back, so no more ‘shuffle’ needed to avoid this.
The Bluetooth facility works well, so we can play our telephone through it too. A lot of technology, but it all works.
I purchased this Radio Friday late afternoon,I didn’t use prime see no need to waste my time with the yearly cost when free delivery is offered anyway.25 hours later I received my DAB Radio.3-5 days before it was due to be delivered. It was well packed and when I opened it the quality is brilliant.Turned it on and WOW the sound is fantastic! There is more stuff in this radio then I or my husband will actually use,but if we want to use the bluetooth or USB etc.we have it. I decided to purchase another one so we can have it in 2 different areas.I was so thrilled with the sound quality and the rich look! Everything works very easy no issues figuring it out and the handbook gives clear instruction if you need it.
Got this for an elderly parent who usually has trouble working technical things. Compared to the more well-known brands like Roberts or Pure, this is good value for money. The display’s quite small and it’s probably a bit fiddlier than others in terms of ease of use, but once the radio stations are programmed in it’s very easy. The sound quality is really good with no distortion at high volume and the casing feels like good quality.
Completely brilliant! Arrived next day, and the sound quality is AMAZING for the price. Considering its size, it’s almost on the same level as a Bose Wave. It’s hard to believe that it can produce sub-bass. Also looks great, from the usual distance. Don’t bother looking at anything else in this price range….this is the one!
I was searching for a new radio/CD player for the kitchen to replace a small Roberts radio cube which had stopped working (only a few months after purchase so requesting a refund from John Lewis). Came across this and seemed an attractive design and price. As someone else mentions it is designed in a similar way to much more expensive models such as Ruark. The reviews seemed good on the whole so decided to give it a try. Setup was very straightforward as it automatically found numerous DAB stations as soon as it was switched on. It started playing the first station on the list which sadly was Absolute Radio at a fairly loud volume but I was at once impressed with the quality of the sound — very clear and full with a good bass.
Once I was able to select ClassicFm and Radio 3 I could not believe the sound from such a relatively inexpensive unit from a manufacturer I had not been aware of. (I know I should say “of whom I had not been aware” 🙂 ). It had that sort of sound which makes you want to keep listening — some people call it warm or involving and it is very difficult to define. Anyway the preset stations were easy to set up and I then moved to FM and did the same. This was straightforward too. I did have the included aerial fully extended for the FM stations. Like DAB, FM reception has been very good but I do understand that it is variable for some reviewers and we are fortunate from that point of view since we are on top of quite a steep hill!
After about 3/4 weeks with the Oakington I cannot spot any flaws. I have used the CD player and also played music from my tablet via Spotify and a bluetooth connection. All excellent.
This really compares very favourably (in my opinion) to the sound from Bose units and from Roberts units. I know this is a controversial point but I would even go so far as to say I prefer the Oakington sound!
I will update if I run into any problems plus perhaps I should say that I purchased this in the normal way and have no connection to seller or manufacturer. So far I think this is an amazing bargain! I’m happy to answer any questions, many thanks for reading.
UPDATE — 21st FEBRUARY 2018
This has been so good over the last few months that I have just bought another, this time for the living room! As in my original review above, I still think the sound is preferable to Bose and Roberts models.
Perhaps I should add that the Oakington has no difficulty in producing sound which fills the room if that is what you are looking for. I never get anywhere near the maximum volume setting and I do like things fairly loud. I have a Roberts Blutune 100 and have now moved this from the living room to the bedroom. It does not struggle with volume either but I find the Roberts sound, though warm, somewhat “muddy” and too heavy on the bass (though this can be adjusted of course — I recommend the bass at -3 and the treble at +3 with the Roberts).
In all this I largely agree with the author of the “Maximus” review under the Roberts Blutune 100 which is worth searching for and reading together with the comments on it.
I have found personally though that I don’t have to adjust the Oakington at all!! It’s all very subjective though.
Many thanks for reading and happy to answer any questions.
Very impressed with the sound of this player, easy to tune in, nice looking unit, slightly bigger than I expected, but that was the only criticism I could find, it was not compact like I hoped . Lots of available stations on the dab and dab + . Very good value for the price, and remote. The wood makes it looks classy as nice rich shade. Altogether a fantastic piece of equipment . Highly recommend.
Arrived today, my old CD player was broken and I wanted a blue tooth, CD player and dab radio for my front room . This ticks all the boxes and also connects to my record player so I now have a decent sound system with that. Easy to set up nice clear sound loud enough for a largish room I am very happy with my choice
Love this unit. It looks good, the sound quality is very good, it has all the functions i want + the remote control is a added bonus.
My only issue with it, is that i can’t get the volume at a level i’m happy with. When on the dining room table & i’m sat at my computer desk, 6 feet away, Volume on #3 is too quiet & #4 is too loud.
Honestly, for the price you will not buy better. Great sound with deep rich bass, and build quality of a product 5 times the price. Worth every penny.
Super impressed 17/10/17- Several months in now and just very pleased with this purchase. Have you ever bought something online and when it arrives you are completely disappointed, well don’t worry because from the get go this unit ticks all the boxes, and leaves a little smile on your face. I am staggered at the price, they certainly cant be making much profit on this unit, especially when you see others on here that are more expensive, and to be honest uglier. This is an exceptional piece of equipment for the price, and given that I would have still felt like that if I had paid more for it. I am very pleased with myself with this purchase, and I cannot say that about many items that I buy on Amazon !!
