I’ve had makita power tools for over 40 years as a professional carpenter and they have never failed to deliver, and this sander is no exception another great quality tool from a trusted brand .
Works great does eat though battery life even on 5amp batteries only get an hour of constant use
Love it, typical makita quality. Doesn’t boast being amazing… well worth the money.
This orbital sander is absolutely a game changer. The variable speed setting is amazing. In the highest of the 3 speeds the power this puts out is remarkable. I have used this to sand timber from pine to oak walnut and mahogany and its brilliant. It makes light work of big jobs. Very comfortable to hold and easy to control so no chance of slipping and sanding an unwanted bevel.
Personally I bought this for polishing areas of the car (bah – bird lime!) And for polishing in the house. For sanding I use a mains powered Makita sander that uses a square sheet, so I can use the reels of decorators sanding paper, which works out sooooo much cheaper and can be used for hours with no worries about batteries.
After saying that, I love the 3Ah Makita batteries that charge in 15 minutes and power so many tools.
Hope this helps.
This item is great. Very easy to use and does the job . Would recommend.
Really good works for a very long time
Easy to hold
Works a dream
Can’t fault makita here
One last thing, in these uncertain times it’s also great to be buying a British made product from a company like Makita that has invested in U.K. production for some 30 years.
I’ve got a fair few Makita 18V tools and have up until now been using a multi tool with sanding pad and my corded sander. I bought this to make the job of refurbing my sash windows, it’s been used for loads of jobs in the past week and is awesome. I could not imagine doing the last few jobs without it.
Got this to replace a electric AEG sander. This cordless Mikita knocks spots off that, brilliant bit of kit. Seem to get around 40 minutes use from a 4ah battery, easy to grip and hold and the pad holds the discs really well unlike my AEG where they often flew off!!
Needed a cordless sander for when up scaffold so no leads every where already had cordless drill and radio so plenty of spare batteries. Easy to use does what it says on ti
I’m a Makita tool nerd. And this sander doesn’t disappoint. It replaced a Bosch corded one which served me well for years.
I have always been a big Makita fan, all my power tools are 18v
I had high expectations of this sander and not disappointed
quality product lives up to the Makita badge.

I run a building and refurbishment company Its a Fantastic bit of kit .
I didn’t think it would be so powerful . We are refurbishing sash windows .
The carpenter is outside on scaffold Sanding windows
Used 18v Battery the 3.0 and 4.0 type
Absolutely fantastic kit .
Use to sand kitchen cupboard doors and works very well love i
Arrived on time as expected, its a nifty little yoke, I like the 3 speed settings. Sanding pads stick well, dust bag needs a bit of force to attach properly.
The mutts nuts! – make sure you have a high amp battery. Collects the dust really well in the bag
As a makita user I am always pleased with the quality of the produc
Survived falling into a bucket of soapy water [washing and sanding my front door]…. Didn’t work initially as it was totally submerged but after being dried out on a radiator for 4 days even the same battery worked. All back working incredibly. Great sander. Easy to use. Very powerful for a dinky machine. So convenient having cordless.
I already had several Makita batteries so this was a natural choice when I wanted a random orbital sander. Have not yet used it extensively but in my testing so far it works well. I was also pleasantly surprised to see “Made in United Kingdom” on the label – not sure if they all are but apparently mine was. Makita have a factory in Telford apparently. Well worth paying a bit extra for!
Amazing bit of kit well impressed with the power of it as i was a bit sceptical as some battery powered kit can be a bit of a let down although saying that my drill and impact driver which are also makita are also very good.
The dust collect is small but when sanding wood it works very well and you can go for ages before needing to empty your sack .
Great buy from Amazon, saved money on the deal delivered on time with no hassle easy to assemble and use, dose a great job
I have only used this machine a couple of times and so far I am very pleased with its overall performance, however, I have relatively small hands and I find that the size of the sander makes it less than ideal to hold comfortably. I’m sure someone with larger hands would have no problem. It has plenty of power and run times with the higher-capacity Makita 18v batteries is good.
I have a range of 18v cordless Makita power tools and the sander complements my collection.
very compact and easy to use easy on the battery use
A little heavy if you have a 5.0 battery.
But no the less a great product with vac PAC that comes with it. I also have a vacuum system making it pricekees for a handyman.
Awesome bit of kit from Makita again.
Really happy with i
Great quality, sanded summer house from top to bottom, then did it again after a coat of undercoat.

Does what you expect I have a 5amp battery and it forks for a good hour you cannot stall it! Best sander I use
I’ve even sanded toupret on external blocks I was repairing before painting and it worked wonders . And saved me time which exuals to more moneys so I’m happy Honestly it does what it’s designed to do so nothing bad i can say about it . I didnt have to buy batteries and I have Makita drills etc so I found value for money was good too. But if you’re on a budget get something more affordable as buying batteries and a charger with this is quite expensive
Really love this sander. Not only do my exosting batteries work in it but its exactly what i needed for tapping and jointing.. sanding is now soooo easy.. used to take ages to sand a ceiling down or a wall.. now its done in no time.. hige time saver, well worth the money!!
Great, so much better than a wired version. It does eat through batteries so bear that in mind, but an awesome addition to my Makiga arsenal!
Lovely machine, have actually used it more often than I thought I would, got it specifically for worktops, but so handy and powerful used it on plenty more things
Bought for my partner as a gift who is a carpenter. He rates the tool, no issues or faults.
This is the right tool for small sanding work. Not for tight corners 🙂
Buy a pack of 80 discs and you will cope with a wide range of applications.
It’s blue, it’s a Makita what else can you say. Yes it’s an excellent orbit sander.
So good for its size and power. Fits hand snug and easy to use
Can’t believe I have never had a RANDOM ORBIT sander before. It is another useful cordless tool using the 18v Makita batteries.
I have loads of Makita 18v gear. And loads of batteries. I wasn’t expecting too much from this – but was blown away with how good it is.
Those saying only high setting is any good clearly do not know how to use an orbital sander. In fact I’d rarely use high power for anything sensitive. This tool combined with a genuine battery is amazing.
Tip – order disks from Amazon as they cost buttons for loads of different grits. Once you find what you like you can get just the few you will use all the time.
Handy little sander, still need a mains version to do serious sanding.
Very pleased with this sander, when using on lower power setting, it does tend to jump around, maybe that’s just me. Overall, very happy.
Tough little tool. Using it for trade. Big time save
I am addicted to Makita and this sander is one of my pride and joys! This is a sanding beast but also forgiving. Its aggressive but gentle if that makes any sense. I would definitely recommend!
Not quite sure what to expect when ordered but very impressed seems to be quite good at collecting the dust in dust bag.
I bought this to sand down some doors and skirting after moving house. I’m a big fan of Makita and, whilst not the cheapest, probably one of the best sanders you can buy.
The 5ah battery lasts for 35-40 mins of continuous use and takes about 45 mins to charge so if you are lucky enough to have 2 batteries, this will last all day.
The only downsides so far is it is a little heavy with the 5ah battery and it wears the edges of the sanding pads but I think that is more likely the user!
It’s a great buy highly recommended.
Batteries I already Use with other makita 18v products .
Product needs correct grade of paper
Used this sander a lot from fascia and window repairs to sanding top of units
Carpenter by trade I’m very satisfied with this produc
very good sander never had an orbital sander, but now i wouldn’t use anything else!
Brilliant sander you can’t go wrong with this, saved time and dust.
I bought this sander as a long-needed upgrade to several small “mouse” palm detail sanders. I found that they did a job but didn’t quite tick as many boxes as I would have liked. Already owning several other 18v Makita tools, it made sense to go for this battery powered version as my next purchase.
It is light enough (and solid enough) at the same time and well constructed, the grits you can buy for it velcro on and off easily enough and the dust extraction works well.
My only gripe is the speed. The top speed is just about enough, the other two speeds I deem almost useless. If only Makita could’ve “tuned it up” a little this would’ve probably been closer to a 5* review…
I love My Makita 18v power tools
It does it’s job, and is fairly clean.
Nice piece of kit could do with a hoover attachme
Beat sander I have ever owned. It is one of my number 1 products for all my wood projects.
If you are looking for a sander that is nice to use, does what you need and a pleasure to use then look no furthe
In the box is the sander, dust collection box, couple of discs to get you going. THERE IS NO CHARGER OR BATTERY INCLUDED.
Nice bit of kit. Working well so far after a couple of months on site. Still going strong. Its been dropped a few times and some people with small hands find it a bit awkward. The rest of us like it especially when it can be passed around without a lead.
Really handy tool and the battery lasts a good time
Usual good Makita build and operation makes this a useful addition to the Makita 18V power tool range. Good value
I purchased this to sand down a motorcycle frame.
It done the job fast and was a joy to use.
Not yet used but looks and feels great like other makita products
Easy to use and set up 3 speeds looks good and makes a good addition to my makita tool set .
It works really well and the dust puck up is better than I was expecting. The batteries last really well (I use 4Ah batteries). Usual good Makita quality even though this particular tool isn’t made in Japan. Highly recommended
Yet another superb offering from Makita. Once you have the batteries, you can keep adding to your collection.
Small, powerful, ergonomic. Brilliant.
With the speed setting hives you better control nice to handle easy grip
Typical of Makita to produce an effective, lightweight and superbly ergonomic tool. For the price (not cheap) it should come with a carry case as standard.
I love this sander, takes very little effort and time
Love this little sander it ideal for out door windows And doors
Nice compact sander, last a long time on a 5ah battery, used for oak worktops and gives a perfect finish.
Seems to be a quality tool- oddly more powerful than my mains powered item. I have a soft spot for Makita equipment but this seems particularly good.
great, powerful enough and nice results. battery life also good on this uni
his is a great sander so easy to use without a cord.
Makita quality is top marks
Great sander to use does a good job no cables in the way
You need a large hand to hold, but it does the job well.
Great 18v sander brought as part of my move over to cordless equipment. Can’t go wrong with Makita
A little heavy but a welcome addition to my collection.
Good product to date will let you know on performance in due course.
Works well, easy to handle even if some of the push buttons are a little too fussy
This is a smashing cordless sander. I’m converting to all Makita 18v cordless tools.
very useful tool I have now used it for a few months admittedly on small jobs a great addition to the tool box
Excellent tool with no cord. The battery and charger are an additional cost and makes the product very expensive.
What a handy piece of kit. I have several other Makita cordless tools so use the same batteries and can only recommend this brand.
I was worred the sandig pad wouldn’t stuck to the Velcro pad very well but it sure as he’ll does wicked tool. Must have tool I don’t know why i didn’t get this sooner would have saved Alot of elbow grease
Brilliant tool but recommend it is purchased with two rechargeable batteries as recharge takes nearly an hour.
Good sander if you already have bought into the Makita 18v family. Drppoed a star as I would have expected a bit more power (orbital motion stops to soon on application of pressure).
Dust collection works, single handed operation works, happy days 😉
A TIP: You can re-use the sandings from the collection bag and mix them with some wood glue to the consistence of thick paste. Use it as filler in the colour of the material sanded.
Great hand held sander. Three speeds you choose the right speed for the right job. So much easyier than cables all over just plug the battery on and your away anywhere. Fantastic great selle
Oops just left a review accidentally about the sanding sheets I brought to go with this product.
Just getting used to this sander and it sands superbly.
Batteries I have ‘3.0’ for it only gives around 20 minutes use which is a let down.
As for the sanding pads I ain’t used them yet. Lol.
Now one of my favourite tools. Very easy to use in the hand and delivers excellent results.
The dust extraction is about as good as can be expected for this sort of design, in that it works but doesn’t give 100% results so some sort of protection is recommended.
Have used both on walls and woodwork projects successfully.
1) It’s easily as powerful as most mains DA sanders of this size
2) It’s quiet, light and clean. Less noisy than both of my mains sanders, no heavier and the built in dust extraction works really well (very low dust in use – the bag fills up nicely)
3) Run time is really good. I used a 4Ah battery pack and did a good 30/40+ mins sanding flat out. Went through three discs and it’s still going strong, no sign is battery running out at all. Really pleased about this as was expecting a continual use cordless tool to run down pretty quickly. With two spare batteries and a double charger I thought I’d be okay but I don’t think you’d need more than two to keep going. You’d need a break before the battery runs out!
Really pleased with this purchase.
As expected it seems to match the build quality you would expect from Makita. It drops a star because they ought to go 20 quid cheaper in my book.
Just as described, bought some additional pads, so should do me for some time. Perfect for sanding back my garage door ready for a repai
