Works really well, I bought it on offer, and I would highly recommend. Used to have a square orbital sander, but this is far better, easy to fix new sanding sheets and works brilliantly. A MUST HAVE for the Makita Tool KIT
This is great, we needed to sand down a 200 yr old front door , with numerous layers of paint. This made it so easy and did a good job of it.
The results, after putting on the new paint. The door looks brand new.
The sander was quiet , no effort to use and got round those awkward bits, which with sand paper is a nightmare.cut the sanding time down to a minimum.
Great piece of kit.
Very easy to use at all angles i.e. vertical and horizontal surfaces. 3 speed. Fantastic dust removal when using attached to hoover hose (adaptor needed). My one reservation is whether it is fast enough at top speed. Time will tell but fairly good results so far.
This sander is compact and easy to use. It worked a treat to up cycle my Victorian chairs. Only down side is the dust collection bag detaches easily. But still less dust than a normal sander.
I bought this orbital sander to sand down powdercoated railing hand rails in the garden. As I have other Makita stuff I already had the batteries that this sander needed.
I have to say the sander worked brilliantly and, over a morning, sanded down my handrails perfectly.
My only comment is that the little box that is supposed to collect all the ‘dust’ is a bit puny.
Other than that, it was exactly the kit I needed to do the job in hand.
Bought this to sand some decking but the job was too big for this, I burned it out after a few hours but in all fairness Amazon exchanged it immediately for a new one. This is perfect for smaller jobs but no good for punishment.
Quick delivery and the item in accordance with the descriptio
I bought this product a month ago. I’ve used it on 3 projects since. I love this piece of kit, best hand sander I’ve ever used I highly recommend it.
I’ve rated it 4 out of 5 stars, only due to it eats batteries and i use the 18v 5.0maH batteries. Also you will lose a bit of feeling in your hand if you use it for a while, but that’s no real difference to any palm sander.
Why didn’t l buy this sooner? For my household jobs this so outperforms my legacy corded tools. It made the job so much easier and wow the ease at which it did its job was so impressive. Be warned it kicks a lot of dust irrespective of the attached dust holder.. I’m a makita fan and never thought to get this sander before . So glad l read the other Amazon review. Throw away your old sander and get this bad boy!!
Amazing there’s nothing she won’t sand. Great tool and for the price it’s a must have for any wood worke
Nice product, chosen to fit the batteries I have for another device, but no issues.
Great Sander, love it , it replaced my old one which broke after 10 years.
A little bit disconcerting that the tool starts on the highest of its three speed settings. You have to press the button again to drop to the middle speed and again to set it for the lowest. If you press it again, (3 times in total it returns to its maximum speed. It has a separate stop button which basically resets it so next use you have to cycle again if you want any speed below maximum. It does become second nature after you’ve been using it a while though.
All in all a very functional and comfortable tool to use which makes sanding/polishing larger areas very easy.
Put off buying this for sometime as I felt it was abit of a luxury tool. I had a corded Black and Decker detail/orbital sander (BnD) that was on longterm loan from a friend, which kind off worked and there’s nothing wrong with abit of handsanding.
Anyway, I eventually cracked and bought this as a birthday present to myself and from first use wished I had cracked earlier.
Firstly no more wires, an obvious thing but what a difference! Also the vibration and noise are so much less compared to the BnD. You could use it without ear protection for a short period (not that I’d recommend doing this), where as after a few seconds with the BnD your ears would start to bleed. The passive dust collection is also pretty good, I did 3D print a vacuum hose adaptor for when sanding in the home or for sanding MDF/paints. The battery lasts on full power longer than it takes to charge a spare battery so constant sanding is possible with two batteries (mine are 3ah).
It is worth noting this is for light-ish sanding as it hasn’t got the power of a corded (though more than the BnD), if there’s a lot of material to remove you’d do better with a belt sander and/or power planer.
All and all it’s a great bit of kit and if you’ve got a reasonable amount of sanding coming up it’s definitely worth the money.
Simple to operate; immediate results; multiple use cases; effective and clean. Only thing is that the dust bag is not so tight and falls sometimes.
Door frames sanded down in minutes fab bit of kit .
Went to use my old Bosch 240v mains 1/3 sheet sander, but found that I’d forgotten that it’s really noisy and the hand vibrations were unacceptable. So, time to add to the Makita 18v cordless LXT tools in my kit. This compact 125mm circular orbital sander is more capable that expected, reasonably quiet and with much better vibration suppression. Ii needed it to take the hand sanding effort out of refurbishing our outside teak dining table and six chairs now that Summer has almost arrived. Tackled the jobs very easily and with comfort. Light weight and size belied its performance which was more than acceptable and helped me finish the task in a fraction of the expected time. Sanding sheeet lasted well and the 18v battery consumption was more than acceptable. Very pleased overall.
I bought this to replace a Bosch sander that I’d purchased from Amazon the week before and swiftly sent back! This is far superior.
Replacement non brand sanding disc stay on very well as the Velcro is very strong, dust bag is pretty good, but I think they all have their limits.
I’m a female so my hands are smaller than some mens and I did find the grip a little wide, but I wouldn’t let that put you off.
I had to hold this sander a lot less than the Bosch, as the Makita is so much more efficient at sanding.
The only negative is some stalling (disk not spinning but still vibrating) when used upside down, however the Bosch stalled constantly, didn’t hold the discs on and the filter bag fell off time after time.
Good quality item.
Very good sander collects up most of the dust works well as described
What an excellent sander. I’m glad I didn’t listen to say of the poor reviews. Being a tradesman I have a few of the Makita battery tools, which I have found them all to be of good quality and if looked after they last . I bought this for a cabinet I’m making. I had borrowed a 240v 6″ industrial strength one to start with, but decided to get the Makita 18v one . It’s obviously not as powerful, but it was still impressive and had all the power I needed. I used it with 4 and 5 ah batteries which lasted a decent enough time. Definitely worth buying if you own other Makita equipment and have the batteri and charger.
Hasn’t got the kick of a corded one but its convenient to use
It frees you from cables but only for light crafting jobs. Ideal for craft but not for serious sanding
Was a bit nervous buying after reading plenty of mixed reviews, but I’m glad I did. I can imagine it would be underpowered for a professional (like all cordless random orbitals), but for a hobbyist it’s damn near perfect.
Honestly, brilliant. I want to give a long review but all I can say is brilliant. I love it.
The variation of the sanding pads allows a professional finish from a tool that’s easy to use and manoeuvre round the item being worked on, but the flexibility of one battery fits all tools in the Makita range Is something All DIY partners should have.
Really nice orbital sander and very easy to hold even in awkward positions up a ladder prepping for decorations
First battery powered orbital sander appears to match previous model which was normal mains model .
Pleased.
Brilliant machine, the speed settings are perfect and very handy for polishing. Highly recommend – if you use the 5mah battery it goes for ages as well!
cordless machines are a great advantage in my line of work, and this one does just that.
My husband has been after this for ages and managed to get one reduced on Amazon Warehouse. He is very pleased with it and there was literally nothing wrong with it at all. He loves his new tool.
Turns out this is smaller than I thought it would be, but that is so far from being a problem it’s laughable. The thing is a bit of a mighty midget – it goes like stink and makes light work of everything I’ve used it for so far. It’s a terrific piece of kit and I’m glad I got one.
Nice sander was surprised with the efficiency of the dust collecto
All good from my end , one little flaw though , dosnt catch all the dust even with holes lined up and dust bag empty
Useful bit of kit, used as an ajunct to my mains operated unit when on site.
i waited ages before i bought one, cordless is the way, don’t worry about battery life , get 2 battery’s lol
Great sander perfect for all kind of sanding jobs very powerful for this size
highly recommended
I use daily to smooth surfaces. It’s brilliant piece of kit. For decorating “numero uno”.
Very effective random motion. Easy to hold…. but easy to drop. Could do with a little clip like the little chainsaw.
This is my first cordless sander and it is SO much more convenient! Usual Makita quality, absolute doddle to use with the 18v batteries; the 5AH last for hours on it. I’ve used it to sand ceilings, walls and furniture and it has been light, convenient and worked well for different strengths of sanding required. The little extraction bag is surprisingly effective although of course it still makes some mess. Top marks.
This is a great piece of kit, just pick it up switch it on and also plenty of power from a cordless, a real game change
You’ll need a battery from Makita (suggest the BL1830/1840 and the charger), but this is an excellent sanding tool. It’s very convenient to hold, light-weight. The cordless aspect feels very useful and I’m glad that I went for this one. Recommend it!
Already had batteries for this sander, very easy to hold and use
Great tool, easy to hold and manoeuvre over large and smaller surfaces. Quick results.
Gradually expanding my 18v collection. I’m pleased with this tool. Works great.
Excellent little sander.. Light and powerful.. As a carpenter I can definitely recommend this great product.
egister on makita website for additional 3 year warranty at no extra cost As with all my Mikita tools, amazing quality and works well. Often people don’t realise let the sander do the work you won’t need to push hard. YouTube if in doubt but all the reviews will lead you to the same verdict, this product is awesome! Requires existing tool lxt battery system
just love everything about it no cables, great feel to hold, brilliantly designed, perfect weight ratio with the battery.but then i have a lot of produts from this manufacturer so maybe im biased haha. would’nt buy any other.
I bought a range of Makita 18v tools recently but this is my favourite. It has the perfect balance between power and weight and the dust extraction is excellent.
Amazing service, next day delivery can’t fault the service, highly recommend and will definitely use again 🙂
The sander does the job perfectly and my husband is very happy with it.
This was bought for a gift so not actually used it. Great service and prompt delivery, kept up to date.
I’m a big fan of the LXT system and Makita tools in general and this is a brilliant tool and (as far as I know) is the only ‘LXT’ sander out there…
I bought mine mainly for decorating and sanding filler although I’ve used it for woodwork too – works very well with the dustless Abranet discs, Mirka hose attached to a Henry vac – this gives a nearly dustless setup for very little cost.
Another tip is using the smaller 1.5 / 2.0 Ah LXT batteries make this night and light for use at height etc. It obviously does go through the batteries though so I keep swapping and charging them.
Only complaint I have is that the discs stopped sticking to the backing plate after a couple of years and started to fly off as soon as it was started (especially as it always starts at full speed!) – this may well have been to do with me using the Abranet discs as above but I was still disappointed it had not lasted longer and although this was well used, we are talking DIY use only and not daily!
Makita replaced the plate FOC as it was still under warrranty which was good but the genuine part is nearly 20 if it needs doing again – I don’t think the new one is any better than the original, it doesn’t seem all that sticky compared to other sanders I’ve used but it’s like new again at least!
Overall, It’s great for its size but I’m sure it can be improved and hopefully made more powerful. I think it was the first revision of the LXT sander so it will be interesting to see what they change if they do replace and bring out a newer improved model!
Already got a bit o makita kit so had batteries and charger ordered to help with kitchen renovations and its brilliant easy to use very little dust using the 5AH battery last almost 2 hours my first task was a 6 panel door which it made a fantastic job of I ordered it with some Makita disc and some cheap copy ones so I could compare the cheap ones work but last nowhere near as long as the genuine makita ones but old adage is true you gets what you pay for’
Great little sander with 3 settings! Top setting could be abit more powerful but still good enougth for my jobs ( I’m a carpenter/joiner so sanding filler on joints an sanding the sharp edges of mdf) great handy tool!
You can’t go wrong with Makita fantastic brand my partner really happy with this quick delivery to
I had a makita cordless drill before I bought the sander, so I already had the battery. I like how you could use the same for most of their tools.
The sander is surprisingly small compared my previous experience but that was a corded version. It’s really easy to use, just 2 buttons 🙂 The dust bag does the job and collect much.
I love it, it is one of the best orbital sanders I have used, its light and the buttons are in the right place for use and the velcro seems to be really strong.
Very good little sander for quick projects however the dust bag is terrible at collecting dust, easier to hook it up to a hoover.
Great addition to my ever growing Makita tools.
Nice build quality.
Used with 3ah battery and decent run time.
Comfortable in hand and easy to use.
Does what I expected it to do.
