This is my second Makita SDS (same model), bought after first one broke.
So why repeat buy something that broke on me?
Because it took 7 years of almost daily use/abuse for it to break. That breaker owed me nothing and worked great until the day it finally decided enough was enough. I was half way through chiselling tile adhesive off a floor so was a bit stuck. I got on YT and found a video of someone stripping this model down to see if I could eke another half day out if it. Upon stripping it down I realised 2 things; firstly, it was worn out, just really worn out from hundreds of hours of use and was unfixable. Secondly I realised what an incredibly solid piece of quality engineering this is. I started life as an aircraft machinist so I know a bit about quality engineering and this IS.
I ordered a replacement with no qualms; for ~150 this machine is an absolute bargain.

Oh..and as an aside…I know ppl with other brands of supposedly same spec SDS machines and they say the Makita beats the pants off them

Nice weight and plenty of power. I like the idea of being able to put a dust collector on.

Was a bit worried that it would lack power since it’s not in the 300 price range. No issues whatsoever, whether drilling or breaking. Battery lasts about 25 minutes so you’ll need a couple on rotation.

    Great power, great value

Very pleased with this chordless SDS drill from Makita. I also have an Erbauer 1500w mains powered SDS that weighs more than twice as much, and this little chordless seems to drill and chisel through brick with almost as much gusto but is so much easier to handle.

Just received this kiddy today. I was reading all the reviews on it. Seems everybody love’s them. Except maybe one reviewer who said the button won’t move all you need to do is press the trigger for a fraction of a second then it goes in any position you wish. I’ve not had chance to put this to work yet but it seems to work just fine and I registered it for the 3 year warranty as I do with all my makita tools. These makita tools are really very cheap if you already have the batteries. So to everyone out there who is thinking of buying one of these DONT. BUY TWO ITS GREAT CHEERS AMAZON just to let you know this fits into a makpac 1. A little snug but that’s good as it keeps it from moving.

A great high-quality tool that hits the sweet spot between power and portability. It’s easy to carry and use, and it’s high effective both as a masonry drill (puts 8 x 1 inch holes in concrete easily) and as a small demolition hammer (breaks up asphalt, splits rocks, digs out old mortar and compacted gravel).

It’s so easy to use and easy on the hands that my 10-year old daughter was ablle to use it to dig a small trench in old asphalt!

There are a few reviews saying that the selector is stuck or that there is no safety. You use the drill direction switch as a safety — middle position is safe. And the selector requires that you quickly squeeze the trigger when you move the selector past the middle position, just like the manual says.

Great tool that restores my faith in Makita.

got some punch to it . my only concern is the trigger is so sensitive that you really got to be so careful when drilling products you dont want to smash to bits.
i will have to get another that has variable speed on the trigger like my older makita.

Strong and portable hammer drill machine. Works wonders for being so small. Can drill, Hammer, and Hammer drill. It does have it’s limitations. Good idea to instructions for dept of what material is maximum.

    Great machine

The right tool for the job!! I was a bit concerned that it was going to be underpowered but no issues drilling through block walls… takes a bit more time than a more powerful corded version but way more convenient. Feels well built.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWhen I decided to start buying modern, lithium battery powered tools I realized that one has to either put up with a collection of incompatible chargers and batteries, or nail one’s colours to the mast of one manufacturer. After a lot of thought and reading around, I opted for Makita. This is my fourth Makita power tool and, so far, I think I’ve made a sound choice.

My property is made of good, hard Accrington brick and I have used up dozens of masonary bits and several power drills on it, over the years. Until now, fixing anything to the walls has been something of a nightmare. I wish I’d had one of these years ago. It sneers at stone and drills into brick as if it were plywood. I am delighted with it.

It’s a beast, for the money.

Hammer mode works better if you don’t lean your entire body weight on the drill. Just enough to make it rattle. 🙂

    What a good drill.

For an 18v drill its powerful it almost comparable with my 24v Dewalt.

The only criticism from me is that it doesn’t come with a carry case.

Great drill, bought as a bare unit as I already have several other Makita tools. This drill is capable of drilling holes for pipework etc with ease, it gives a lot more flexibility than a corded one. If you intend to use the hammer function a lot be warned, it eats batteries. Overall an excellent bit of kit.

The selector does stick a bit, but if you read the manual, it tells you run the drill for a second and it moves easily.
