Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersMy babies the daddy at work. Tested against the cheaper longer version of makita sds, and my boy wipes the floor with it.
When she heats up, switching the settings knob between eg. drill or hammer it jams. Wait for it to cool and then shes good again.

    Arrived on time well protected.
Already have the bigger version with 2 batteries. So bought this one due to be more lighter as I use it all the time.
Enough power for hammer drill and hammer too. I used it a lot to removed old tiles from walls, or hack off old plaster etc

Mainly to drill holes in walls when there is no electricity to use my other old 240V SDS drill – Performs fine, does what I need it to do – I expect, with only my occasional use it should see me well for years to come. Obviously, with no trailing cable to worry about and extension cables etc you can be good to go very quickly with this tool – any self-respecting handyman at least, should have one of these. It’s not cost big money, but it is a big help.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis Sds 242 model is a must for any tradesman, this beast chases brick, stone, concrete or anything you put in front of it, it comfortably drills walls using 20mm bit, anything under this size eg a 7mm, will go through any material like a knife through butter. it is by far the best and most useful Sds I have owned, Im a plumber who has been abusing this nearly every other day for 3 years and it still feels like a new drill.
TOP Tip don’t forget to grease Sds bits now and then to keep it running smooth
Don’t think about buying it just buy it, you won’t regret i

Great value, drills through red brick walls like butter. The hammer action for the chisels is great, it’s accurate and powerful, the fact that the drill is much lighter than other sds drills I’ve used means it’s easy to aim and weald for long periods.

Incredible drill. This will eat through your walls. This angled version of the horizontal motor style is much easier to handle . The 18v brushless does sound strange, different to my brushed tools, but is much easier to use than a corded tool. You will also be more likely to use it than just reach for the combi. Buy one.

Golden Review Award: 46 From Our UsersI was a bit doubtful because of complaints about the function selector being stiff and there being no safety catch.
However when it arrived I found there IS a safety catch (the direction switch is also safety in the middle position).

I did find the selector would not go into hammerless drill position but then I READ THE MANUAL!! It clearly says if difficult to move, do not force it, leave in the rotary hammer position and run the drill for a few seconds. Sure enough, 5 seconds run, switch off and the lever slid easily into hammerless position.

The one review I have found correct is regarding a wobbly chuck. But it didn’t stop me drilling an accurate hole – pressed the bit where I wanted to start and the wobble didn’t show up.
[Edit: I found this in the manual, so no problem here: NOTE:
Eccentricity in the bit rotation may occur while operating
the tool with no load. The tool automatically centers itself
during operation. This does not affect the drilling
    precision.]

So far, excellent, goes through concrete blocks easily, plenty of power and Oh! The freedom from a cord! I wonder how often my De Walt corded SDS will see use now?

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersDer Borhammer von Makita hat meine Erwartungen echt bertroffen.

Wow! I bought this drill recently (not from Amazon) to help build a raised deck for a friend.
There were quite a few beams that needed to be mounted to brickwork so I wanted something that could confidently do the job (ok ok I confess, I wanted an excuse to add to my Makita collection!).
The drill with the bargain priced Makita bit set (Just under 25 from Amazon in a posh metal case!) is a joy to use.
Naturally it will drill through brickwork in a way that would please even the Hatton Garden thieves.
The feature that REALLY impressed me though is the hammer only function.
I needed to remove quite a bit of textured fake stone render to give the decking a secure and smooth surface to mount to. The one inch chisel in the Makita set decimated all the concrete that got in its way. The unit passes very little vibration back to the user.
Battery life is managable. If you have a spare battery then the charger will just about charge one battery as fast as you are draining the other!
You would have to be doing a lot of drilling to need anything bigger than a 3Ah battery. I have a 3Ah, a 4Ah and a no name chinese Makita clone battery and all three gave plenty of life on this drill. Highly recomennded and has paid for itself in one job because of the time and hassle it saved (I would have spent a day with a bolster chisel if I had not had this.

I’ve been using my “master’s” one of these for a while and it just does anything you ask of it. It makes light work of any task in brick and does a job on concrete too, whether drilling small holes or chiselling/chasing. People tell me corded tools are a lot more powerful, but I find this stacks up quite well against the couple of corded SDS drills I’ve used by Bosch and Makita. The may well have an edge in power, but any difference in power for my uses, is easily outweighed by the convenience and manouverability of being cordless. I’ve just ordered one of these for myself as I can’t imagine there are many better drills out there for the money. Really looking forward to using a brand new one!

Golden Review Award: 18 From Our UsersI bought one that suffered from “Chuck Wobble” (not a 1990’s Rapper, but a chuck that is out of line), resulting in long drill bits wobbling at the tip by about an inch. Hopeless if you are attempting to drill a neat hole.

I called Makita and they assured me that it was not a common problem, so I called Amazon and they replaced the drill for a new one which works fine. This is why I shop with Amazon.

So I would recommend checking for chuck wobble with a new long drill bit before use. Insert a long drill bit, sit the drill on a flat surface, pull the trigger a little and watch the tip of the drill bit as it turns slowly. A little movement is inevitable, but if there is excessive play then I would return it as soon as possible, before it has been used in walls etc so it is clean and as new, so no blame can be put on you.

So, a good tool, but Makita need to improve their quality checks, I don’t want to have to waste my time doing it for them.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersThis is a brilliant machine. I had a mains powered Makita SDS drill that I had brought about a year before this one, and I would say that this is easily as good, if not better than that. I am a tradesman so when this gets used, it is put through it’s paces.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is a real hammer drill , it goes through brick and stone like butter , way faster than normal drill/drivers , and the hammer only mode is as powerful as a 230V SDS drill.
