It’s great product easy to change easy to handle great quality of makita.
Bought this few months ago and been using it lots for doing my house up. Great tool and don’t understand why I didnt buy sooner, made so much different.
Fantastic value for money ! Works great and pretty quiet for a multi tool .
Bought as a gift but I have had cause to use it.
Never used one before. Great tool, a little noisier than I thought.
Usual Makita quality that always delivers. I’ve had the Bosch corded version for many years and they are a godsend when cutting floor boards or tricky skirting/architrave. Great to have the tool less change of blade but the downside it doesn’t have the light like my other Makita tools.
Really good tool fast delivery. I had the corded version for years but it’s a pain on sites it’s so much easier using cordless. A brilliant tool for many small jobs saves carrying around many tools and a bonus with quick blade change.
I borrowed a friends and couldn’t wait to get one of my own there is nothing to dislike about i
Makita quality, easy quick release blade retainer.
Would be nice if it were slightly lighter and and work light, but minor gripes. Pleased with the performance.
Great product with quick release feature. But why do makita produce the cheaper junk version without that I had to return before buying this model.
Almost finished me with Makita but this product restores my confidence
It’s my 3 one just a tool you can’t do withou
Can’t believe I’ve not had a multi tool until now. I don’t know how I’ve managed. If anyone has any hesitations, don’t. I can’t fault this makita one at all but it is the only brand I’ve used.
Versatile tool I bought this as a present as I already own one and know how useful they are for many jobs
Comfortable to use. The sort of thing that you didn’t know you needed until you have one. Since it is supplied without a battery and charger etc the cost is very reasonable. I have several makita tools and the build quality of this is up to the usual standard. Highly recommended.
This tool helped us out of a situation a tip for any roofers out there works a treat stripping very thick roof felt around the up stands ..a knife just wouldn’t cut it ..
Fantastic product used for about 8 weeks now solves all manner of problems.
So i know its good with 3 year makita guarantee already used in ernest putt it through its paces delighted with the quick release .
Works a treat, one thing to note i use (new) 4AH Makita batteries an they dont last long at all.
Would have been nice to have an led light at the front to show where your cutting, but still works a trea
Really handy tool to have, quick blade change is also good additio
Usual Makita quality product it’s a shame the don’t make a Brushless version as the main body is quite large to grip if you have small hands. Quick release lever to change blades well worth the extra money
The blade mounting system is very poorly designed. I’m not the only one whose grip system has broken down again. That’s why it’s becoming an overly expensive tool. It is not normal to pay so much for a week or two of work. Beware of this idiotic fastening system …
I change review and I add 2 stars more…
Problem with fastening sistem, I solve with a bit spray W40…
It’s so useful and easy to use it runs for ages on my batteries
Bought this after seeing my builders using theirs, had a 240V one which didn’t get much use as it wasn’t with my tools when I needed it. Now as its lxt I have it with me all the time and use it loads. A bit heavier than the the plug in but really useful when you can’t get another saw in in. Great in plasterboard and for cutting floor traps, Detail sanding head is ok but not brilliant. Balance in the hand is good. Scraper blade great for removing Cork tiles and adhesives. Cardide blades good on grout and epoxy resin. Makita quality with a quick change system.
Plumbing and Heating Engineer. This is a major improvement over what’s gone before. Less noise, less vibration quicker bales change. Much more control in use and Europe
Made not Chinese. Well worth the money
Very strong but a light on it would have been useful
What a great asset for any diy’r, this is very versatile, can be used in the most awkward places and you can easily attach a wide variety of blades or attachments via the quick release lever, I would highly recommend this to anyone
I wish I bought one years ago, so easy to use.
Been a carpenter for 30+ years always use makita gear because its the best! But for some bizarre reason I didn’t have one of these had a cheap one I brought at a local timber yard. finally got round to getting the makita one no comparison to my old one which is now in the bin!
Weighs quite a lot more than the Dewalt brushless but with the vibration of a multi tool i prefer this. Dreaded borrowing the dewalt, felt like all of my fillings were going to come out ever time i used it. Not a problem with this piece of kit, although it is definitely not as powerful, it is more than good enough. Left a 4 star review as i feel as though Makita should have released a brushless version by now.
Very useful &more so being battery powered, easy tool change well worth the extra cost.
Generally quite amazing what they will do & really would not be without .
For newcomers they work like the saw orthopaedic surgeons use to remove your plaster if you
have ever needed one.
Just as expected, works Like a dream really happy with the tool
Like all makita tools the power is there and built quality is top notch. The only possible down side is the bulky hand grip, which can make maneuvering in awkward places a bit more challenging
I wish too return the item I have had it 4 weeks and it is not working correctly. There seem to be teeth missing from the head. Which causes the blades not to work correctly
If as a trades person or keen diy enthusiasts don’t own a multi tool they are worth their weight in gold be in cutting floor boards, sanding, cutting panels or chopping door hinges. I brought this make and model to go with my makita set ive built up and as all makita is well made only down side is it doesn’t have a light so cutting in a dark corner u will need a ligh
What a great tool. Makita quality shines through. The easy change blade is a great feature, allowing you to change it in seconds and change the blade angle really easily. It is fairly heavy but I take that as quality and helps with vibration. Very little vibration. Very happy with this and not sure how I managed before.
I found needs for it and its the kind of tool that makes you wounde how you managed with out it ,Good Makita tool.
I have a mains powered B&D multitool . It has a quick attaching blade mechanism too. The Makita mechanism is much better though . The B&D one relies on a very strong Spring to clamp the blades , it’s a bit of a struggle to get them in and out . The Makita one , you lift a lever to release a bolt , stick your blade in and shove the lever back . A cam action I think . Anyway it’s far easier to manage . The tool is really good .
Very good tool, chose this one as it has the tool-less blade lock. Just flip the lever, take the pin out and swap the blade, no looking for a spanner.
It blasts through anything I’ve put it against so far, but it eats through (4Ah) batteries and blades.
Hope it lasts a while for the extra cost.
Great MT, bit heavy and would have preferred a variable speed trigger.
Cracking piece of kit… never bothered for one for years and now got one, don’t I wish I’d have bought one years ago…. deffo makes some awkward jobs a world quicker and easier.
This is a very robust and practical piece of equipment. A must for any Tradesman and DIYer alike. Would recommend.
Using that to cut some holes in plasterboard,plywood,metalwork-doing electrical installation work…
Wish I’d bought one ages ago, fast change chuck is superb
Great bit of kit once you have all different blades to do the job absolutely fantastic
High quality product. Good mark in good price. Very recommended.
I LOVE IT! Long time electrician. Typically use a jig saw and have to be overly cautious. This thing makes my job so much easier. Especially when cutting back boxed into plaster or cutting out ceiling access. Love it.
Already used it to cut off a plastic separator inside a Gewiss box – worked like charm !
Very happy with i
Never thought this would do the job, what a fool I was.
Easy to use accurate and clean cuts, used to trim in sliding wardrobe door and gate fittings both cuts very clean and look great with no sanding after required
If you have the Makita 18v range then this is a mus
Product works great, bit annoying there is no light on it though
Noisy and runs battery down fairly quick, but by George does it do the trick! Has got me out of plenty of difficulties. When its to hand it will take the place of loafs of other tools and in lots of situations it seems to be the only thing that will sort it. And it sorts it quickly too.
It’s just a vibrator for men really? You’ll use it loads & will make you happy when you’re frustrated.
Bought as an upgrade from a mains powered Bosch mutli tool. Seems just as powerful as the mains tool with the added extra of quick and easy accessory change. Used with a 4ah battery this tool works for as long as most jobs will take. Used for trimming doorframe when installing flooring and for sanding. Works with all types of accessory. Definitely recommend
Had corded before with the speed and ease of changing blades and use anywhere I wouldn’t buy anything else now
It’s a brilliant tool for almost all jobs around the house and easy to use
Just buy it. I use it for everything! And saves so much time
Used it on a complete bathroom job this week, wish I bought one sooner!
Be lost without it. Was surprised by the actual size of it, but powerful and keeps on going.
The usual high quality tool from Makita, I bought it to make more use of the 18v LXT batteries I got with a combi drill set. Brilliant for cutting access hatches in floorboards leaving a really neat narrow line and great for cutting pipes in awkward locations, inaccessible with a pipe cutter. Very minimal downside is the lack of a light. Lower noise and vibration than my other craftsman multi tool. Really Don’t know how I managed without one before.
Does the job and I had Makita batteries so happy days.
Keyless blade changer is good but not as good as dewalt, much quicker and safer. This can snap back violently and catch your finger. Class multi tool though if your in the Makita range already
Very impressed with the quickness when changing the blades.
Not to big body for getting into small places.
Very pleased with this product and the price.
A must have.
Great tool
Now even better than my last one with quick release on change over of bits
I bought this after seeing one in use when our house was rewired. It’s a great cutting tool, but note that you really will need ear defenders and, ideally, protective goggles. It’s also very powerful, so needs a firm grip.
So easy to use that I use it all the time
A direct replacement for my original corded Feign multi tool.
As good with a 4 AH battery & more versatile with being cordless.
Had a number of different multitools now, got this as I’m trying to stick to makita’s to simplify battery management. It’s a lot heavier than the others, but with the tooless mechanism, softer starting and weight it’s actually easier and more comfortable to use.
Absolutely a necessary tool to have this does so many jobs in one.
Not the lightest tool but fully adjustable blade directions make it extremely versatile
Brought this for 1 job, never thought I’d use it so much, fantastic bit of ki
Perfect for cutting floor boards at the joist, sinking new stud into old and sanding doors!
Can’t believe I’ve been without it till now!
I use this pretty much every day as a professional tradesman and it’s a must have for any tool collection. At first I thought it was a bit chunky but once you put the battery on it’s perfectly balanced with the quality feel of a Makita product. It’s powerful, great working time per battery and the quick release blade change is the icing on the cake. Very happy.
I only use makita so all the batteries are compatible I had no regrets about this purchase at all , very handy tool
I used The makita dtm51 a few times for DIY project. It’s really very good. It’s powerful, you can change the speed, not heavy at all. If you use this machine one time you won’t work again without it. I used other corded and cordless multitools in the past like Power Plus, Skill, etc… They always break after a while. This one is high level. Maybe is this one more expensive, but it’s worth the money, if you have the money to afford it. Delivery was fast.
Electrician.
I bought this as a ‘just in case’ tool, but use it almost every day! I didn’t realise just how much i would use it.
Cutting hard to get to floor boards
Plastic trunking
Old pipes/nails/screws
Wall chases (plaster only)
Don’t know how I’ve managed without it I use it to cut everything that it can cut excellent tool
Little bit too heavy, but works perfect. Compare to Metabo, slightly bigger and not that fast. But 3 times les expensive. 🙂
This is a high quality tool. It is powerful and seems to have a long battery life. Be warned though, it is quite heavy, although I found this helpful in keeping the tool steady. I love the quick release tool mechanism.
Always thought I didnt really need one of these multi tools, but when I did eventually get one, I use it regularly. It always sorts out problems and issues from woodwork, to cutting nails, screws and even scraping. Now I can’t do without one……… If there are any cons, then I would say, it gets through fully charged batteries fairly quickly and the device is fairly heavy, but maybe it needs to be? Other than these issues, it’s great and a must have to any toolbox.
The quick change of blade is very handy, the weight and size of tool limited getting in about some jobs
Love it. Just need to find a use for it. One of those tools you use a lot then leave it down for months however that doesn’t take from its quality.
Great value for money as I already have many Makita LXT power tools and the Batteries to go with them.
The Blade change could do with improving, but it grips the blade well with no movement, you know its up for the job.
I like the fact it’s just a very useful tool to have. Let’s me know when my battery is needing to be charged with the light flashing red. And fast changing of the blades
Used this to replace a mains power one that I have been using for the last 4 years. Great replacement and works just as well. Went for the quick release the same as my mains. Much easy and hassle free.
Fantastic tool I have used it for loads of things around the house from cutting holes for plug sockets to flooring, bits of sanding here and there, cutting metal… the list goes on, it’s definitely worth 100, batteries are expensive as is the two bay charger. But I would recommend to any one. It’s versatile, and well made.
Having already got a 110v multi tool I bought this for sites without power. I now use it all the time as it’s so portable and easy to use
Just added this tool to my 18v kit, The quick change blade feature is great much better than the old version but no light is a disappointme
Sanding & cutting, early days as I have not used it that much.
I have other Makita tools and just wanted to extend the tool chest.
Excellent quality multi-tool that uses the same LXT batteries as my combi drill, cheapest price online at the time as well. No issues
its Makita say no more last one went missing, someone obviously took a fancy to it don’t blame em, this tool is a great addition to any workshop and due to quick tool Change it’s a no fuss addition.
I used to have a corded multi tool (BXXXH) and the Makita seems more powerful and cuts better than that did, nice and quite too compared to the old one. I am going to lock this away to keep it safe?
I used this multi tool for cutting floorboards, trimming out kitchen base units and have worked it verry hard every day for over 18 months without servicing. Just brought a new one when it started showing signs of failing. The quick change chuck makes it so much easier to replace the blades compared to the older version.
Have not used much but seems very good. Wish the original batteries werre cheaper as i would have bought a spare. I dont want cheap battery clones.
This was one of those tools that you want but not sure whether you really need or can therefore justify buying. Was my go to weapon three times in the two weeks following buying it. 🙂
Whoever needs thuis tool, knows what is it capable of… The actual power and longevity depend only of the battery quality. The better the battery the longer you can work with it.
I’m a huge fan of Makita tools, but prices can be extortionate at specialist retailers. I’m so glad that Amazon is able to offer the brand at a reasonable price
Got it at about 10% lower than I could find anywhere else.
Quality is just what you’d expect from Makita, and registered for 3 year guarantee which just solidifies it further.
Great addition to the tool set if you already have batteries.
This Makita multitool was approx 30 cheaper than Screwfix. I spoke to Screwfix to see if their internet business would match Amazon but they wouldn’t.
I was uncertain of buying tools online but registered it with Makita for a 3 year warranty. Its very good to use and the quick release lever is a bonus. Def a good buy
Pro’s. I’ve used these at work for cutting electrical back boxes into plasterboard walls, cutting skirting to fit boxes ect. The quick change over lever is great. Very robust.
Con’s No light.
Still a 5 star ratting.
I got this as a gift for my brother last Christmas because he wanted it. He never used it so all in all was a good purchase I think.
Already have Makita tools so went with another 18v.
Has enough power and quick release so far has proven useful without problems. Best with a 5Ah battery for longest running time.
Seriously happy, and well worth the extra over the DTM50, quick release of the blades is what you need, had i got th DTM50 id have likely not bothered using very often as i do this one.
Had the Allen key version this one quicker you don’t realise as a tradesman how many blades you can use in a day
Have tried the dewalt version but if you already have Makita battery’s – then this is the way to go
This is a must have tool for your kit. As a builder I couldn’t imagine working without this multi-tool. So many uses and so handy. The usual Makita quality I know this tool will last. I’ve been using Makita for over 15 years and have found them to be the best tools on the market.
Would be 5 stars but Makita decided to remove the led light from this model which the older model had. That’s a step backwards imo. The fast blade change is great time saver though.
