I have a big, quite heavy 1/2″ router for some tasks but I found it a bit too cumbersome for smaller, fine detail jobs so bought this specifically to cut in door hinges and locks. it works great for that, much easier and more controllable than my bigger router. I couldn’t justify the extra costs to go cordless, got this one at a great price, it works brilliantly, is very solid and well made.
Product is good. Not been able to use to it’s full capacity, but still a great purchase.
Small easy to use. Used to make some table dec for wedding table made easy work of it too dolla
I had been using a Katsu router in my CNC machine. Which to be fair worked well, but was noisy and didn’t sound great. Now this is a different beast. It is quieter, the flex is made from quality material and it just feels a better tool. The soft start is wasted on me as it is bolted into a CNC router, but the rest of the machine is smoot and easy to use. The price has been reduced so a great buy.
Using this to fit door hinges (11 doors). Made my own jig and quick and very precise.
Price goes up and down like a yoyo on Amazon!
Great bit of kit. The bulk of reviews tell you everything you need to know about this trim router. Great quality, solidly built and very easy to use. Excellent.
Wish I’d of bought this sooner.
Makes my job easie
It’s hard to argue that this is not the best palm/finish router for the price.
Well designed, well made and easy to use. It does all the smaller jobs that my bigger Dewalt is too powerful for.
For the money I think it’s the best available.
This is my first router, but very impressed. It’s small, heavy, but easy to set up, use and control. Very happy with the results. Used with a set of 1/4 inch Bosch router bits
We use these trimmers for template work on site and they are undoubtedly one of the best small 1/4 inch routers available. Unfortunately after 7yrs site use my casing has cracked and rendered it useless so time to renew. So if you are looking for a small router to use for either amatuer or professional use get this because they can’t be beate
To be honest, I’m left wondering if one of the clones would do the job just as well
I’ve invested in the Makita original so i’m a little biased but for a diy-er could save a lot of money if only using occasionally.
check out the 3d printed guide templates. Makita charge a tenner for each size of these but the you get a whole set (4/5) for around 6 and they work really well.
This makita router is well worth the money and i havent even used it yet. I’ve watched plenty of reviews and video’s of the Makita router in use and paired with its fair price it’s a steal. And this is coming from a DEWALT fanboy.
It will be permanently attached under my work bench on a router plate so my dewalt tools don’t notice.
Highly recommened and also all the cheaper katsu parts fit…NO BRAINER
looks to be in order and arrived two days early.. need to learn how to use it now..
We have used this product to help restore a table during lockdown. The result is accurate and it has inspired my husband to use it for other DIY tasks in the home.
Used this to make some window frames.
Works well , nice and light and easy to manoeuvre .
Makita are very good quality I would recommend them to anyone over the year I’ve used other companies but I think Makita are the best value for your money
Top quality little Router, powerful, easy to use. Love it.
Great little router/trimmer. Simple to use. Does a nice job.
This is what was in the box that I recieved:
Apart from the router and manual the box also includes :
1) One dust extracting nozzle
2) Two spanners for tightening the nut that tightens around the collet holding the bit shaft
3) One template guide, explained in the manual
4) One straight guide ( can also be used for circular work) This is fastened with the nut that you can see on the back of the router, the manual explains how to fit it, it’s very easy.
5) One trimmer guide, for trimming along a curved edge, like a circular table. The manual explains how to fit it.
6) Two collets. The router takes metric 6mm and 8mm collets and imperial 1/4″ and 3/8″ collets. In the box are one metric 6mm and one imperial 3/8″. If you have 1/4″ bits, you will need to buy a 1/4″ collet. 1/4″ is 6.35mm and they will not fit in the 6mm collet. Be careful if you are purchasing 6mm bits on here as I’ve seen at least one set that was listed as 6mm and did a line drawing on a bit as being 1/4″ on the shaft. A Makita 1/4″ collet is c. 9 but there are cheaper non Makita ones. 8mm collets are also available separately.
Excellent tool.
Very light to handle. Great adjustments. Very accurate. A real quality product.
Compact and lightweight but still usual Makita quality. Great for door hinges. Well packaged and fast delivery by Amazon.
Very powerful and quite accurate. The downside is the difficulty to adjust the depth. The body is made of stainless steel and shiny and the depth scale lines can not be seen due to reflexion. I had to paint the surface with a black marker which fixed the problem.
I received this Tool as a Christmas Present and rushing out to use it on Christmas or Boxing Day, wouldn’t have been one of the most popular things that I have done! I don’t anticipate any great difficulties as Makita are quality tools.
I would echo the reservations expressed by other people (but knew that when I bought it) is that putting it in a plastic case, as they have with other tools, would help to keep it in good condition. That wouldn’t cost Makita much and they would gain considerably in terms of their presentation and reputation.
Easy to use, accurate but depth can be fiddly to set until one gets the hang of it. Pity that there is no carrying case , or cutters included. Ideal for small jobs such as rebating hinges and slots.
I have always hankered for Makita tools but as a home DIYer only, the cost was too hard to justify. I have been looking for an excuse to buy a router for some time and the need to replace some architrave, where I couldn’t match the profile from timber suppliers, gave me the reason to purchase. The Makita is a lovely solid tool and the versatility of the basic machine with a number of accessories for other purposes really enhances the value. As a first-time router owner, I am hugely impressed and I am delighted with my self-made architrave! Great tool at a very competitive price
Purchased to use in my ooznest cnc very quiet router compare to some.
Love the router trimmer. It’s very sturdy well made and accurate. Still learning to use all the bits that I purchased with this but liking what it does.
What a great bit of kit. have bought other parts to go with it. only issue is that you don’t get the 8mm collect. you get a 3/8 collect. so found 8mm on line 763618-5. (less than 4) finding the template to fit the other base is proving hard. looking at a insert and brass bush or will have to make one my self. cant be the only person finding it hard to locate a 68mm insert for this. found something that might work will update this later.
I wanted a smaller more convenient router and chose this because I trust Makita tools. Good little trimmer but I have since bought a plunger base to make it more practical as a router. I can recommend this trimme
I bough this to replace a cheaper Aldi router and the difference is night and day. It maintains speed through thicker cuts and is much quieter on the lower speed settings. I should have bought this years ago.
Lovely piece of kit for my first time use … very handy and all tool kits need one! You can literally modify, cut out sections professionally and to the T
The router itself is great and paired with both the fixed base and the pluge base is an incredibly versatile tool. However, the listing here on Amazon and on Makita’s own website says that the router comes with a 6mm collet and and 8mm collet cone. Unfortunately, this product did not come with the 8mm collet cone (a collet cone was included in the box, but it is far too big for 8mm bits – possibly 10mm? I have no 10mm bits to check whether it works with this router). After buying the collet cone separately, everything now works together nicely, it’s just a shame that I had to place two separate orders.
Lovely bit of kit, expensive but does a great job
Thought about buying a router for some time now and wish i had bought this year’s ago..
Made a cabin bed for my son and this was vital for rounding edges also managed to make mortice and tenon joints too..
I think it will come in handy for all sorts of projects..
Only down side was i didn’t come with any router bits.
Would recommend..!
Perfect for the router table I have built, and a good price.
Makita make quality tools, and this one is no exception. This model is well reviewed across the web so I’m not going to rehash that. I will say that the fine depth adjustment takes a bit of finesse to do right because of the clamp design.
The included flush bearing guide is a great addition, meaning you can use straight bits as flush trim bits with ease. Just make sure your bit is really well tightened, and make sure to tighten the adjustment knobs on the guides every so often during your cuts. I didn’t get this right at the start and realised that my bit was actually hitting the bearing after a few cuts. Be forewarned and don’t blunt your bit like an idiot!
Item did not arrive with a bag contrary to the description. On the basis of this I did not purchase a Makita box.
Very handy for the smaller and less demanding jobs, accurate o use.
Fantastic little trimmer, starts nice & softly without a jolt. The height adjuster and clamp are great quality compared to others I’ve had. The round base is a great improvement on the square based one I’ve been using.
Great value too if you ask me, I use mine for bench work but it’s worth it even if you only use it for hobby use.
I played with a couple of cheap knock offs before deciding to just bite the bullet and get this.
Glad I did, it’s so much better made. Nice and solid, bit of weight to make you think it’s quality and a lightening fast motor given the size of it.
Everything feels solid, no movement in the base, the rachet level works well, though some of the adjustments are a little fiddly to use.
Only one part feels cheap and that’s a small plastic screw at the back of the base. Tbh I can’t figure out what it does other than feel cheap.
The soft start motor isn’t much of a soft start mind you, there’s still a little bit of a kick and that surprised me, my other Makita tools with soft start handle initiation in a much gentle fashion.
The motor kind of revs a little when you change speed, which I wasn’t expecting, but it didn’t seem to effect the cut.
This comes with a dust extractor, cheap plastic, but it fits well and does the job as well as you’d expect… kind of.
The straight guage is cheap, you’ll need to replace that with something of a better quality sooner rather than later. Strangely enough Makita sell two much better ones… funny that.
I bought mine with the plunge base, which is pretty great but remember that one doesn’t come with a dust extractor, but guess what? Makita sells them as an add on!
Great item, quick dispatch and very helpful seller thank you
Makita qauilty is very satisfying. Small size make it easy to use.
I’m a dewalt guy but really like this router, only brought as I know I’d only use it now and again and it was cheaper then the dewalt, but when I do use it, it’s perfec
Can’t say anything bad about this. Small and quieter than a larger unit but does the same job.
This item purchased after much deliberation against the Bosch version. Its quite heavy, but that reflects the quality engineering, very ergonomic, the interaction between main body and outer sleeve is superb. This is aimed at heavy duty use, and I practiced on some scrap wood initially to get a ‘feel’
I’ve never really used a router before but quickly found this intuitive to use. I have been able to make shelves with routed edges, something I’ve never tried to do before. It was also really good for making frame and panel doors. Very pleased with it. The router bits are easy to change and the depth settings are accurate. The dust extraction nozzle could do with being bigger as it doesn’t fit universal adapters. I’ve had to bodge together something to fit my dust extractor. The build feels very solid and it feels like a quality power tool.
Most qualified Electric tool I’ve ever used. Best specification is it’s silence and light weight.
Really strong for its size. Perfect quality. I use it for a whole bunch of jobs in my warehouse, and looks like it’s going to work for years.
Excellent piece of kit, lightweight but very well built. Exactly what I wanted to replace my old Ferm router of around 15 years old
Excellent piece of kit. Used on a kitchen refurb to trim oversized mirror chip laminate edging. Guides were good and it was easy to make fine adjustments to depth using the rack and pinion. Solid when running with no vibration. Thoroughly recommended.
Great quality, easy to adjust accurately, and easy bit changes.
There are a few cheap imitations of this around, but my advice is always buy the best tools you can afford. Good quality machine which I know will last and take some abuse. No carry case so only 4 stars.
Have only used this for one woodworking project so far but it’s a high quality Makita precision tool
Great piece of kit. I’m a builder that does everything on site. This makes letting in hinges in a doddle. Bull nosing mdf for shelving? Ideal. Small enough for one Handed applications.
This is my first trimmer so my review is a little biased. I am a tradesman but woodwork is a weekend hobby.
The Makita is light and straight-forward to use, no real kick-back, though restricted a little on the size of ‘bit’ that fits through the base opening. I guess for larger ‘bits’ I’d need to use a full size router.
With a vacuum connected to the trimmer when cutting the visibilty of the ‘bit’ isn’t bad at all, though I find it easier to see the ‘bit’ spinning if I have a light source shining on it as it’s somewhat obscured by the plastic guard.
The included fence is a little in-accurate too so I’ve cut a hardwood straight edge with my plunge-saw and screwed this to the fence for some added stability when running the trimmer along a workpiece.
Brilliant, I now have 3 routers but this is the ne I always pick up first, so easy to set up and use. It really is worth paying the extra for makita tools.
Absolutely brilliant tool, great for edging, following templates or straightening out an imperfect line. I thought I would mess around with the speed for different projects but to be honest it seems best a max speed but using small height increments to get the final cut. It’s consistent enough that you can go over the same lines confidently. Pick up the other bases and different router bits and you’ll see this tool comes in handy for so many different projects.
got lost in post for over a month seller was great help .this is a great router well made
Excellent, so comfortable to work with great results. Very well made and has a nice weight to it. Typical Makita great quality.
Arrived very quickly and already put to good use. This is a superb Router/Trimmer and as a DIY enthusiast I really don’t know why I did not get one earlier. Very well made as Makita power tools are, I look forward to many happy days routing!!
Generally when I’m buying power tools I go by the rule of ‘bigger and more powerful is best’ but this little router is definitely the exception to this rule. In fact, the reason I like this so much is because of its relatively light weight and size – for trimming, template work and cutting pockets and apertures this is so much better than my big beast Makita router. I know that there might be slightly more ergonomic routers than this little Makita (and probably lighter ones, too) but this one is, for want of a better word, balanced: so much so that you can – if need be – use it one-handed.
Although it’s a fairly small and lightweight unit it does not lack power – the 700 watts go a long way and although I’ve never really pushed it (slow and steady with multiple depths is my mantra in routing) this seems like the motor could handle a fair bit of work.
I like this so much that I’m not overly bothered by the slightly hit and miss depth stop – don’t get me wrong, you can set the depths of cut very accurately, but it takes a bit of effort. And I’m not even too concerned about the 1/4 collet – for what this is, a trimmer/finisher, I’m not even sure that any great benefit would be had by using 1/2 shank cutters
Finally, the thing to really know about this router is that it’s a Makita and therefore it has the quality and feel of a top tool – everything just works.
Simply the best trimmer available BUT, height adjustment is not strong enough, I have put a bit of sandpaper in to keep depth tight. Should really send it back, but use it every day!!
Extremely well made product as you would expect from Makita. Has suffient grunt to do what i require from it. The product comes with the side rail as well as the trim guide as shown in the picture. The only thing this does not come with is the storage box, comes in a Makita cardboard box. will need to make a wooden box for i
Another great buy from Makita …straight out the box you can feel how well made it is In use its very comfortable in the hand not too much vibration
Nice trimmer Route
his router is great and so easy to use, i wish i would have got one years ago
Great buy! Seller was easy to deal with, item arrived quickly, well packaged and on time. There are plenty of cheap trimmer/routers on auction sites and they all look like cheap copies of the Makita, however i would not bother with those even if i only need it for occasional use, as the accuracy just isn’t there.
This is powerful for the size, has very good variable speed control and has a mostly aluminium body, all in all meaning it so far has been very precise, doesn’t seem to get too hot, i trust the electrics and the plug (i don’t trust many of the cheap far east knock-offs though..!), and everything works well.
Made a mirror frame and routed out a chopping board the other day, both items looked very professionally finished with very straight/even cuts and a consistent depth, the accessories make life easier too.
